Bio-Cup 2023 is already running full force, with Round One just finishing and Round Two starting up soon. Still, you might have noticed our lack of coverage so far... well that's about to change. It's time for us to highlight some of the amazing MOCs that were entered in the Preliminary Round. There are a lot of MOCs to cover, so let's jump right into our first batch!

  2. In a surprise yesterday, the Bits N' Bricks podcast returned with a new sixth season of five episodes. While it's not on YouTube, you can listen on Apple Podcasts and other podcast platforms. They've strayed away from videogames and this batch covers topics like LEGO botanicals (featuring Nick Vas aka Brickthing!), sustainability, clutch power, the LEGO goat, and more! I've only listened to the trailer so far, but I'm excited to dive in and see what I can learn.

  3. We missed it this weekend, but LEGO Shop@Home is currently doing a double VIP points promotion, which runs until the end of tomorrow (June 13th). If you've been thinking about buying some sets but haven't had the reason to, now is as good a time as any. This is especially true if it's a LEGO exclusive and not something you'll see on sale at Amazon, Target, or Walmart in the future.

  4. Earlier this week Tufi Piyufi kicked off the Official BBC Contest #81: Water You Building! You have until Tuesday, June 27th at 11:59 PM Eastern to build a constraction creation that fits the theme of water. The wettest winner will be able to douse the flames of 70787 Tahu - Master of Fire by taking it home as their prize, and second place will win 70783 Protector of Fire. Additionally, if you send your entry to BrickFair Virginia (which is completely optional) you'll be entered into a raffle for 5002942 Bionicle Villain Pack. Good luck to all the builders!

  5. A little while ago, Bo99 joined the forums to share a unique piece of Bionicle memorabilia that had come into their possession: a large scale Bionicle sculpture of Keelerak. Nato G sleuthed that it looks like it was the grand prize in a 2005 competition, and this is the first we've seen of it since then. Bo99 appears to be interested in selling it, so if you'd like to add this one-of-a-kind sculpture to your collection, reach out to them!

  6. It's that time of year, the time all the Bionicle and Constraction builders on the Internet look forward to: the Bio-Cup! As has become tradition, BZPower will be donating a bevy of prizes which will hopefully be announced soon. And of course I'm sure many of our members will be entering their builds in the preliminary round, which is underway! Best of luck to everyone, and I'm sure you'll be seeing some of the amazing creations in our monthly MOC recaps and all over social media. Get building!

  7. Earlier this month The Economist shared some insights into the efforts The LEGO Group is making to win over the Chinese market. In the article, titled "Lego, the world's top toymaker, focuses on China," they cover the things many LEGO fans are familiar with - like Monkie Kid and the Lunar New Year sets - but also discuss the continuing fight the company is having with competitors that range from direct copies of LEGO sets to real-life Chinese military vehicles made out of bricks. They also dropped the staggering stats that last year TLG opened 95 stores in China and plans on opening another 80 this year. It seems like there's no shortage of love for the brick in one of the biggest markets in the world.

  8. If you missed out on the Bionicle Gift With Purchase set earlier this year and wanted to build a Tahu of your own, then you're in luck! Jay's Brick Blog shared on Twitter that the two printed pieces from the set - Tahu and Takua's masks - had shown up on LEGO Pick A Brick for people to buy individually. Unfortunately it looks like Takua's Pakari has sold out, but you can still pick up PLATE, W/ BOW 2X2X2/3, NO. 69 aka Tahu's Hau while supplies last!

  9. Early last month, Michiel Wouters joined BZPower to share some Bionicle memorabilia that had rediscovered from their childhood: a water bottle and a drink cup from LEGOLAND Germany. After some sleuthing, it turns out the water bottle came from LEGOLAND too, and while Michiel is keeping that in their collection, the drink cup is now up for sale in the B/S/T forum. If you'd like to own this unique piece of Bionicle history, now's your chance!

  11. Earlier this week The LEGO Group announced that they and Novo Nordisk had entered into a partnership with European Energy. The energy company will use renewable energy and biogenic carbon dioxide to produce e-methanol, which in turn will be used to produce polypropylene, polyethylene, and potentially other plastics to move away from fossil fuels. The LEGO Group already uses polyethylene derived from sugarcane in a majority of cases, but this agreement could potentially see polypropylene, the plastic used in minifigure weapons and accessories, switch to a sustainable source. The first batches of e-methanol won't be delivered until 2024, so don't expect this to happen overnight, but it's still a great step in the right direction for the planet. Happy Earth Day!
