  1. DV was the one who got the bag, he was in contact with TLG before the announcement and basically helped with the relaunch, I don't really know the specifics. But the masks have since been split up between BZP staff, with a cache remaining for raffles and whatnot. There's a possibility there are more bags, but I haven't heard of any. I'm pretty certain no others have been given out to the community in this fashion, at any rate. DV knows more about all this anyway, he might have the answer to that.
  2. I will only ever call it Bionice. no one can change my mind
  3. I'm betting the Protectors will turn into Toa. We'll get a year of adventure with memorable characters such as Protector of Fire - Toa of Fire, Protector of Earth - Toa of Earth, and who could forget Protector of Jungle - Toa of Jungle. I can't wait.
  4. some builders like having a lot of details, though. I mean I might be overestimating things, but with system pins, flex tubes, exo-force arms, tail and barb pieces et cetera, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if my primary entry counts as 25% system in the end. But yeah, I'm basically just speaking for myself there edit: oh okay, with B6's clarification below, that is now a non-issue :B

aaaaaa I'm glad you liked it sumiks, I simply couldn't stop myself from at least trying to portray the beauty of the havoc wreaker. It's just the best moc. (and also thanks a lot the rest of you, too)
  6. Hey so does the villain in question have to fit into the Bionicle universe stylistically? Or does anything go as long as it's an Original Character™ EDIT: also ridiculous sci-fi laser rifle things, yes/no?
  7. I kind of stopped paying attention to everything Lego related during the Breakout year. I did get a pair of Toxic Reapers but I never actually built anything with them. I was totally on board for the Ordeal of Fire sets and I also got a few from the Savage Planet lineup, but after that I moved on to other things for a while. Evo's mech and Splitter Beast were the first sets I bought in like, over two years. I will say though, for me it was never a matter of being "too old" or whatever - just a shift of interests.
  8. Oh yeah, like I said in the topic, those are supposed to mean "betrayal". they were kind of preliminary, but then I didn't bother changing them :U

  10. Honestly this may be hard to discuss without referring to leaked content. Also, Bionicle 2015 can be discussed here but again, leaks are prohibited. (Lyichir covered the rest)
  11. Also, in case that's still unclear: there's more to gender than biology. If a character (or, more importantly, a person) identifies as female, then it really is not for you to say they're not. Gender is completely dependent on how a person percieves themselves. This should not be a surprise. So saying that X cannot be female because they don't exhibit certain physiological properties really comes off as kind of awful, especially since there are actual people who get this treatment on a daily basis. So, in short, yes, Bionicle's female characters are in fact female, and yes, they are marginalized. And, as Sumiki pointed out, the representation of the established female characters really isn't anything to brag about. There are literally just like, three different character types that sum up all female characters in Bionicle.
  12. okay so for those who missed it, A Shadow Searches got first place in the contest! thank you so much, those of you who voted for it. :> he has them in the Epic Dragon Battle set hey thanks, they're supposed to say "betrayal" since Garmadon wasn't always evil?? idk, I probably could've done something better with that. oh yeah, I actually did want the environment to reflect Garmadon's mind in a sense, an ominous place with some vague flicker of hope (represented by the blossoms). so the theme of his morality is definitely in the background of the picture. and I was actually worried people wouldn't like the mountains, I'm honestly not quite sure what I think of them myself, but I'm glad you like them! thank you! I'm glad to hear the composition works, I do tend to struggle with that part. this configuration just took one attempt, so perhaps I'm improving in that aspect? thanks a lot, that's great to hear. :B oh lol yeah, I kind felt like having Garmadon in his minifig form might damage the picture, so I just went with a slightly more naturalistic interpretation of him. thanks for the comments, everyone!
  13. thanks everyone, it's been a great contest. congrats to the other winners, too :B also, this is what my life is about now. someone just walked past my window. I have to go dropkick them. they need to know who is the real ninja
  14. I see what you mean, but the main topic never states that the location has to be atypical. It's perfectly within the realms of the theme. But yeah, I just used the Garmadon minifig for reference, and I wanted a surrounding that reflected what I know about him as a character. I may add that I consulted Windrider about the prototype of this picture, which had the same sort of setting (albeit a lot less prominently featured), and they approved of it. (also thanks Tekulo, same to you)
  15. [thumbnail leads to topic] I know nothing about ninjago
  16. Member name: VampireBohrok Title: A Shadow Searches Thumbnail: Category: Art Topic: Link (oh and Wind, as you see I changed the motif, hopefully it doesn't disappoint :U )
  17. [Click the thumbnail] So here's my last-minute entry for the Ninjas in Space contest. I'm not too used to drawing environment things, so working on this was a bit awkward. But anyway, here's Garmadon rushing through some strange barren landscape in pursuit of something or someone. I was aiming for an atmosphere that's both calm and suspenseful, I hope I succeeded to some extent at least. Criticism is appreciated. :>
  18. this is a terrible comment and let me tell you why a MOC is not just some product. It's not just here for your viewing pleasure. It's not just here for you to come in and denounce it as "not good enough" without giving any reason whatsoever. You are being unconstructive and frankly disrespectful to Brickeens. Aptera, like any other MOC, or any other art for that matter, is the product of a creative process. This creative process is reliant on learning from one's mistakes and, simply put, improving. And the only way to improve is to make sure you know what mistakes you've made previously, so that you can avoid them in the future. So while saying it's "not frontpage material" and all, you're doing nothing to help. You're doing nothing to acknowledge the creative process behind the MOC, nothing to help Brickeens improve to your standards. Not to mention you seem to be intent on making this about you and your creations. That's not what this thread is for. If it matters, I can offer you a review on a MOC of your choice. More coming, I just had to get this out of my system Continued: I'm personally not seeing a "hype". I'm seeing a MOC with rightfully appreciated qualities. My favourite things about Brickeens' MOCs is that they always have this distinct character, as well as solid concepts, great piece usage and shaping, and excellent colour management. If a MOC has all these qualities, I think it should definitely be recognised as a good MOC. Of course, there are subjective standards when it comes to these qualities, but for those standards to actually matter you have to have some reasoning as to how things could be improved. Otherwise, you just leave the person who made the MOC with this unsatisfactory feeling of having done something wrong, but not knowing what. My point is this: if you feel at all hit by what I've said, you should retry making that comment. Except instead of being very brief and dismissive, you should go into some detail as to what you don't like about the MOC. See it as a challenge. (I'm open to discussion so throw me a PM if you do feel like responding)
  19. on the forums, old and new Bionicle will only be distinguished through whether you use an L or not
  20. frankly I don't own a single Ninjago set, but I'm totally going to try a few of the categories. great theme too.
