Helryx Canister Design
Humble_Matoran posted a topic in Bionicle-Based CreationsHey Bionicle community! I’ve been watching & reading BZ Power content for a while now but as this is my first post, I just want to say it’s an honor to be here & it’s a great community to be a part of with so much great content! So based on the title of this post I’m sure you all can figure out what it’s about. Like the rest of us, I’m super hyped about this new TTV canon contest, and I really want to participate. However, I’ve never been the most phenomenal at Bionicle MOCs, so I thought I’d take a different direction – the canisters! Obviously canisters, at least in Bionicle G1, were a big part of the Bionicle universe, & I think as we’re doing this canon character contest and having things verified as canon, it would be cool for them to come with canisters (lots of words that start with C I know). I’d really like to design & create these canisters, & I’m willing to do it for each & every contest that will be held. (Just a sidenote: I’m also open to creating boxes if the “set” requires it, but I’m more passionate about the canisters) The reason why I like to do this is two-fold - 1, because of my passion for Bionicle, & 2, because of my passion for design. From a young age I always loved to build and create, & that’s actually what I went to college for! I’m proud to say that I have a degree in product design with a solid skill set around CAD and 3-D printing, sketching, model making, & general design principles. I’d really like to utilize the skills & sort of give back to the Bionicle community. As far as how this would work, personally I think it would work best to design the canister after each character is finished, just to help me tie it in together (to the character/mask) and also let the original MOCist do their work without me influencing it. I would love to even make the actual canisters & gift them to the winners & maybe even send some to TTV to review on their YouTube channel as a set. And obviously I’m open to any ideas the community might have for how I could go about structuring/creating these canisters! So long story short: I’d like to join the TTV cannon contest by creating canisters for each character & then sending them out to the winners & TTV. I would love to get in contact with Greg & the cast members to make this official, but I’m not sure exactly how (if anyone knows, please let me know. Update- I did send Eljay a message). I’m really looking forward to the opportunity of working with such a great community. Anyways, that’s a lot of text. But please, let me know your thoughts & comments about this idea! I'll be using this thread to post my progress photos, which are also on the TTV message boards (obviously lol), Reddit, & Instagram (all with the same username). My first round of sketches is posted below. Please please please give feedback! I would love to know how I can improve this design as I go through the process. I’d love to hear from you guys & I would value your input greatly. Let’s continue to keep the legend of Bionicle alive! #Unity #Duty #Destiny
Gali Sketch- Fun with Colours
h_e_barlow posted a topic in General ArtI wanted to take a break from drawing large, technically exhausting pictures for a bit; so, I decided to experiment with Gali's color palate with a rough sketch of her regular clothes. As I was playing around with different colour schemes and pairings, I never really noticed how much colour plays a part into a character's personality. Just looking at the differences between each one really gives me an idea of what kind of person each one is-even without them saying or doing anything, which I think pretty neat. With this in mind, I really like how the first one's colour palate worked out. I'm hoping to do a larger picture with more details later on, hopefully with more energy and "liveliness" than my last one. (I feel like she was little stiff and that she wasn't as natural as I'd like her to be). **As a side note, because of some insightful feedback, I realized I didn't explain why I'm drawing things this way; this is why I want to share why Gali is still wearing a mask instead of just having her normal face showing. This is because for the series I'm writing/illustrating, "The Halfway", wearing masks is an extremely important part of the story and world these characters live in. The reason why everyone needs to wear them is based on major events that happened in the past and have huge implications for the plot; because of this, I've intentionally added and designed each character to look normal, except for masks covering their faces. And as a result, something looks off about the pictures; they look odd, strange, or uncomfortable, and these is exactly the feelings I want to convey. (More details about this can be found on my DeviantArt page: http://fav.me/dberb8n) What do you think? Do you have a favourite colour scheme, and if so, why? And as always, critique is welcome and appreciated.
Lego's Design Process
fishers64 posted a topic in LEGO Discussionhttps://instagram.com/p/9etDvVQFrF/ Looks like Lego hasn't been thinking of story writing that much - as old Greg said, the sets come first. However, most writing methods start with defining the characters and the setting anyway, but it appears that they focus more on the appearance of the characters than their actual personalities, which makes sense for a toy company. But that may leave those looking for a deeper story disappointed. What do you think? Go!
Which Mask Has the Best Design?
Toa o Uria posted a topic in Bionicle DiscussionIt's a tie between Lewa's Miru Nuva's mask from 2008 and Hahil's Faxon mask from 2007. Ouna's Pakari Nuva's Mask from 2008 and Matoro's Tryna mask from 2007 are close IMO.

LEGO Fusion Style Guide
ProfessorBrickkeeper posted a topic in LEGO DiscussionRecently, while moving from one computer to another, I came across something I forgot I had on the deep recesses of my hard-drive; a copy of the LEGO Fusion Style Guide. I don't entirely recall where I got this originally, as it was intended for internal usage within TLG, but considering that the Fusion line has now seemingly ended, I assume it's okay to release this to the public. It's a short 16-page visually rich document, but it is still quite interesting, providing a neat look into the inner workings of LEGO's box art, graphics, and communication departments, and their policies when communicating products. As I cannot seem to find an easy way to add the .PDF document directly into this post, I have uploaded a preview below, which links to the .PDF. Enjoy!
Secret World of LEGO
Vezok's Friend posted a blog entry in blogs_blog_809As previously mentioned, during my recruitment workshop there was a camera team, putting together a documentary about getting the design job and the company in general. Very interesting and aside from my colleague Justin in Super Heroes, I show up in the background every now and then, not to mention our very own 55555 ^^ Hope you get a little glimpse behind the scenes!
Your favourite Matoran design
Makuta Miras posted a topic in Bionicle DiscussionVote away! My favourite is the MahToran build, basically because it introduced 0 new pieces, and used previous ones in a very innovative way, even though the Avtoran build is one of the builds that I use most often when I'm making Matoran MOCs.
What would you want a new Bionicle to look like?
Nato G posted a topic in Bionicle DiscussionIf Bionicle were to make a return (and please, don't start a debate about that possibility here), what characters would you like to see in the new line of sets? And what pieces should be used (the new HF plating, or the old Bionicle armour)? Share you thoughts; I'm very interested to hear what everyone's opinions are.
Favorite Zamor Sphere Design
Hexann posted a topic in LEGO Discussion*Ahem* ^^ The title. Well, because these have been used all over in Lego sets (including the beloved Bionicle) I though I'd place it here. I called them Zamor Sphere 'cause I can't just call them those 'Sphere Projectiles'.

Mystery Pens from 2001
Dropship pilot posted a topic in Bionicle DiscussionHi, everyone, Way back in 2001 I got some BIONICLE-themed pens as a gift. I haven't seen any mention of these on BS01 or the various unofficial online LEGO catalogs, so I figured I'd post here to see if anybody knows about these. The pens are pretty standard. They're made of glow-in-the-dark plastic and have pictures of Onua, Kopaka, and Tahu printed on them. (The printing isn't all that great.) According to the clip, they're made by National Design, a company that makes promotional pens. If I remember right, they came in a pretty nondescript plastic wrapper and were purchased at the Chicago LEGO Store. Does anybody know if these were sanctioned by LEGO itself, or are a one-off for the Chicago store? Gallery, when public. I know that these aren't very exciting, but I'm curious all the same. Thanks, Ryan

Worst Mask Design
Dwanny posted a topic in Bionicle DiscussionIt surprises me this hasn't been made yet.Title speaks for itself.I personally think the 2008 Akaku was a pretty lame excuse for a kopaka mask.First of all, they switched the place of the telescopic eye. Wa's up wit da?!Also, it doesnt quite have the complex feel that the original Akaku, or the organic/bionic feel of the akaku nuva.Altogether, it was a disappointment.
