Perp
>>> BZPRPG TECH ILLUSTRATIONS >>> by the great and powerful Perpetual Darkness (the artist formerly known as D EternalShadow)So apparently those guys and gals over in the BZPRPG Discussion topic enjoyed my illustrations of some of the native tech, specifically the Patero Launcher. So I'll post whatever I draw and vector here, for your viewing pleasure. I'm also taking requests for illustrations of personal foreign tech. Constructelf
... What's a Patero? Never heard of it. Context aside, those illustrations look really nice. The images look really crisp and the lighting scheme seems to bring the images to life even though they're obviously illustrations. Did you use a computer program to make them or were they hand drawn?
Perp
The Patero Launcher is just a piece of tech created for use in the Official BZPRPG. Since there were no illustrations of what one would look like (to my knowledge), I took the liberty of putting forth my own vision of the device(s). I start by sketching out a few simple concepts on a sheet of paper, not very detailed. Then I'll take a picture of the sheet with my webcam (I COULD scan them but all I need is a general outline, it's not really worth the time) and vector, colorize and detail it in Adobe Illustrator. Pretty simple process, the hardest part is getting the oblique angles perfect (or as close to perfect as I can possibly get). And thanks for the kind words. Tabby: Toa of Cats
My problem with this design is that the barrel is by far too narrow for this design. Some patero launchers are big enough to serve as mortars. (Would you care to sketch that design?) According to the tech list: Some types of Patero shots include small fireworks, glass-capped Stralix Powder capsules, clusters of bamboo arrows, and even confetti cartridges. The barrel doesn't seem wide enough for that, especially the bamboo arrow clusters. Other than this, I don't think they're bad designs. They look rather nice, and have made some changes to my concept of Patero launchers.
BULiK
I like the designs, especially the practicality of the pistol and it's awesome loading mechanism, as well as the dual-purpose stock of the rifle. From an art standpoint, your designs are very pleasing, while the actual isometrics and orthographic drawings need to be cleaned up, IMO. The problem is, from my talks with Nuju, Patero launcher tech hasn't advanced far enough to have muzzles of that small of a diameter. Patero launchers are meant to be reminiscent of mortars and bazooka-like weapons as well as functioning larger artillery installations. We are nowhere close to having a pistol-sized patero, from what I can tell. I had trouble getting a patero the size of a pump action shotgun approved - even then I had to make it so that the air bladder was connected via a tube to the character's backpack. Sorry if it seems like I'm venting on you - your designs look really nice and I wish they were in the game that way at some point. I just want to make sure that you don't go into a situation where you picture the patero in your mind's eye, while the other players have a different idea, which could stir confusion in a tense situation the patero would likely be used in. Trust me, these guys can get very picky if it gives them an advantage. I would love to see what you do next; don't be discouraged. Your designs are very nice, although your aspects of viewpoint sometimes conflict with each other. Perp
I appreciate both the compliments and the criticism, it helps a bunch to take into consideration not just my own views but that of the community as well. I'll work to update the designs and add new ones in the future. It's part of why I'm taking requests; if you'd like me to illustrate something in a specific way, I'll be glad to do so. As for the orthographics, they aren't my strong suit. Hopefully I'll be able to improve those in the future as well. sunflower
Very neat, it's always nice to see some visualizations of our little TBRPG. Quote - BZPRPG -
25K Now!
I like your designs, but to echo Tabby, the barrels do seem on the small side. I've always visualised them as having more cannon-like barrels myself. Quote http://vimeo.com/198967785 BZPRPG Profiles

25K Now!
Definitely some snazzy designs there. Love how despite looking quite tech-y, they fit well with the naturepunk-esque devices of Mata Nui. Hitoshura
Wow, great job on all of them. I found the designs quite interesting to look at, especially the dragon head thing. Quote profiles

Shadowhawk
This is pretty cool. Downright awesome, actually. D'you think you could try your hand at an artillery-class Disk Launcher? Multi-disk magazine and all that? We're starting to see them cropping up here and there on ships and stuff in the BZPRPG, and it'd be nice to get some genuine artist's input. Voxumo
*did not realize the topic existed*I have to say Perpetual darkness, I still love the way you captured my character's weapons, especially Kidona's two weapons. Once again I am so sorry for being picky with the stuff but I am glad you were understanding. Which this reminds me that I need to go and add those to the appropriate BZPRPG profiles Quote Banner made by Onaku BZPRPG CHARACTERS Syvra-Tivanu If you interact with one of my characters and I don't respond or acknowledge the interaction within a day, send me a PM. Perp
Updated main post with revised illustrations of the Patero Launcher, as well as some more commissioned work from VoxuChro. Enjoy! Also, more goodies are on the way. Next up: Volo-Lutu and artillery-sized Patero and Disk Launchers.
