Hey.Got some bad news.My laptop's fan died, so I'm not going to be able to post comics for awhile, since all of my spritesheets were on there. However, it doesn't mean my topic needs to be closed, as I will still be trying to keep up with you guys comic-wise. It will likely take ages, but I might be able to scrounge back up some sheets.

Well, that definitely fits the last word in the topic title.Good luck. If you can get your laptop to run for like 10 minutes safely, you should be able to move your stuff to a flash drive, then make comics off a flash drive you stick into any computer. (While getting your laptop serviced)

The problem is - well, let me explain. My laptop is an IBM Thinkpad (Making it pretty... bad. Really bad.), and we had gotten two. One for my sister, one for me. My sister's hard drive ended up getting fried, so when my first laptop got the fan error(Explaining that in a bit) We just took out my hard drive and slapped it into hers. Now hers has the same error, most common in(And seems to only happen in)IBM thinkpads. The 'fan error' - When I start it up, it loads, then makes two beeping noises, says 'Fan error' in DOS print (Like a command prompt) and shuts down. The fan error is an internal fail-safe to keep itself from overheating. The failsafe activates when the fan is malfunctioning.I've been attempting to preform 'laptop surgery' to open up the fan and clean it off, but no success so far. Mostly because the first time I tried, I had to quickly re-insert the screws to take care of something else.Anyways, I do have a plan for the comic - and it might be something to look at/do while my main computer isn't working.Sort of a Q/A thing with an alternate character. Not mr. "??? pong face" since his sheet is on the laptop, but someone else.

Ignore what I said about the q/a thing, I thought up of a possible series taking place after D3, but in an alternate universe. It would have not happened in this alternate universe, but timeline-wise it'd occur after D3 ended in the main universe.

It's called Dawn of Disasters - an homage to D3's true name. It's a sci-fi based series, and to keep things going, you guys can specify what you'd like to learn about it next, either in post or PM, and I will post it. For instance, here's a few example things to learn about:

The main character

Items

Timeline

Story

Factions

Notable figures

Other character involvement

It will be made in Xanis for the sake of flexibility with poses.

This certainly looks interesting. I'm really excited to see whats coming next. The use of Xaniskit is really nice, and I'm quite interested in seeing how you present these key elements of the comic. I'm sure it'll no doubt be great. I suppose the question I'll ask is "What are these factions?" and "Did the D3 characters have any influence on the storyline?" (Such as did things go into chaos because of the events of D3, did things become bright and sunny, is there some sort of super-secret operation going on because of it, etc.)Like I said before, it looks really interesting and I'm excited to see whats coming next.Something I'm wondering though is if this series/mini series is taking place because of the earlier issue with your computer? Did you manage to save the files and everything?~Soran

Sweet. My fist question is one that you listed, who are notable figures, and what we can we know about ??? (Are we able to refer to his name or would like to keep that a secret still?)
Well, since someone finally asked, I'll explain ?.???'s real name is Vee - he's an artificial being, an interloper if you will, who does not directly effect the storyline but observes certain specific universes. He does have power to change things - not massively, but he's there to keep a small flaw from spiraling out of control, effectively destroying the specific universe. I personally see him as if he observes over the UCS dimensions. He may or may not have part in DoD. Fun fact: Vee's name is a reference to CTRL+V.Notable figures. The first one is Nova. Nova was a being (Most likely a human) who had escaped an apocalypse and sealed himself away, essentially the last living person on earth. He created a bio-organic being known as the Shepherd. Eventually, as he neared death of old age, he sacrificed himself to give life to a bio-organic race, his life's end powering the bio-organic beings. These bio-organic beings are all of the characters, including Shepherd. Nova may or may not be his real name, but it is all that anyone knows of him. Shepherd was created to, indeed, act as a 'shepherd' to this race and is currently the leader of the main populace and is the second notable character - however, he was already explained.Unnamed villain: This other notable character is the leader of the Usurper force. His name is still being developed. Usurpers will be explained if the question is asked. The main character will be explained in a seperate post with a specialized format if a question is asked about him.
This certainly looks interesting. I'm really excited to see whats coming next. The use of Xaniskit is really nice, and I'm quite interested in seeing how you present these key elements of the comic. I'm sure it'll no doubt be great. I suppose the question I'll ask is"What are these factions?" and "Did the D3 characters have any influence on the storyline?" Factions:ImperiumUsurpersThe ImperiumThe Imperium is the main faction in DoD, being the government of the main populace and the military force. The main character works for the Imperium, similar as Ler did in D3. However, in this case, Ler joined by choice and is, in fact, not unhappy about it as in this case the Imperium is a protagonistic faction. The Shepherd is the leader of this faction. The UsurpersThe Usurpers are a rebellious group bent on taking over this universe. They are bio-beings that have broken away from the main populace and strive to break down the Imperium. They are very cruel and ruthless, and, if things really were under their control, this would be terrible for a few reasons:For starters, the leaders simply want to be in charge and deal with things as they see fit. Corrupt as they are, this essentially will create a ruthless dictatorship. The leaders also might eventually tire of things and simply go on rampage whenever they like. The Unnamed villain and his underlings are the leaders of this faction. Heres a question more about us. Is anyone able to have a role, like in D3? If so would it be open or UCS or your selection only?I shouldnt ask al lthe questions, but if they go un-asked I'll ask more later.
Pretty much anyone can make an alternate version of their character with name and data for DoD, provided they send in a sheet in Xanis. I won't always have time to make sheets for everyone.Answering Soran's question about D3 universe i missed: In a way, I suppose. The name 'Leraku' is important in DoD, as it is a legend that Nova heard of during his lifetime - likely from Vee or another interloper who deemed him fit to visit. He was the last one around after all, so what bad could he do with a conversation? Otherwise, that's about it.I'm hoping to be able to whip up a pretty good explanation for the main character if anyone asks about him.

Okay, I'm using xanis now, might as well make yet ANOTHER alternate me (I have, like 3 right now...)Well, I really want to ask about the main character, and since no one is asking (its only been like 10 minutes though) I figure I'll get it over with and ask.Who is the main character? Who and what?

Other information:

Phaseblades: Phaseblades are a form of energy weapon that have a solid conductive base that emits an energy that allows it to have varying effects depending on the user's preference. Phaseblade katanas in particular are set to heat up when swung, and emit in a particular way to cut down on air resistance, thus allowing the user to swing faster and more precisely.

Helmets: Helmets are... well, helmets. Bio-being heads are not quite masks - they vary in appearance from being to being, but there are many common ones. Helmets can have different settings according to what the user wants - Master Vision in this case gives the user all forms of altered vision. Thermal vision, night vision, x-ray vision - Call it a version of Arkham's 'detective mode' if you'd like, although I've never played the games. I'd prefer that you check in first before making up a random helmet power. Also: Helmets are typically shaped like the user's head, with varying kinds of visors depending on the user's preference. Perhaps a simple horizontal visor, a visor that has eyeholes - Maybe decorative. Again, it is up to the user. The visors can be in varying colors, and amplify the eyes of the user to be seen through. Mouths are not typically seen through so far. Most helmets come equipped with special headlamps.

V4H1 Overclocker:

The V4H1 Overclocker is a small handblaster with special capabilities. It uses a specially modified time energy capsule to effectively reload itself instantly - or freeze it's firing for a few seconds, then release a rapid burst of all of the fired shots in that time. It has nearly infinite ammunition due to this, and as such has only one heat sink. Unfortunately, the rapid-fire cannot be abused for a long period of time as the heat sink can only absorb so much heat. A skilled user can use the Overclocker almost to a firing rate of a gatling gun. (Note: The V4H1 isn't quite done yet, the sprite is subject to change.)

Innate Power: Innate powers are something that most Bio-beings have. Usually something that sets them apart form others, though some common ones are notable. Miles' is Energy - It gives him power over raw energy, allowing him to redirect and absorb it.

Codename basis: Miles received his codename based on a legend that Nova had overheard. Most likely from Vee, the Interloper. This legend is about D3, thus giving him the codename Leraku.

More info on Miles to be announced.

So for pgsing/whatever you want to call it for this, what would you like other then the kit and name? A setup like you made or something else?
Name, rank, affilation, preferred/primary weapons, Innate Power, helmet type (We can discuss certain things like this via PM), training, etc etc. No rank higher than Captain if you wish to be involved more frequently. Sectors still need to be planned out, so where they hail from isn't important yet.

Time for a random comic to introduce two new characters - This isn't exactly what happened, or exactly what their personality archetypes are, but I decided to make it funny for the sake of humor and also to test out some special effects.

dopplerintroduce.png

dopplerintroduce2.png

dopplerrageanim1.gif

For starters:

demyanbiosheet.png

Demyan was submitted by Facade.

Second of all: This little robo-copy of our protagonist is named Doppler, and his personality protocals conflicted a bit, making him very erratic, sporadic, and has frequent mood swings, though he's usually pretty handy around the ship.

Wow the graphics in this comic were amazing. I really liked the backgrounds, they looked pixelated but also really detailed and it just looks wonderful and flows quite well. The lighting is also awesome and I like the focus blur you put in, it helps keeps the eyes on the characters. I think the thing I'm most fond of is the perspective, how its not always at the same angle all the time. It makes it also movie like and looks great. The comic was also entertaining, and you managed to capture the emotion the characters are feeling quite well. The animation was well done as well.In total this is a great start to what I expect to be a fantastic comic series. Nicely done.~Soran

No pie involved, I promise.Your way of mixing GIFs and PNGs is flawless, and Doppler could start a mutiny or something...

There you go. A comic giving some character development, and introducing a few new characters.

cherisebio.png

Other info:

Cherise and Miles have been good friends ever since training camp, and Cherise volunteered to join his crew when he was promoted to captain.

She's usually very optimistic and friendly, and is Miles' closest friend.

soranbio.png

Other info:

Soran is very logical and tends to be one of the more serious members of the crew. He does have his mysterious tendencies, however...

axilosbio.png

Other info: Axilos is the bulkiest member of the crew and tends to be very handy in combat situations, often being deployed as the primary combatant due to his high damage-causing capabilities, and the fact that he can take plenty of damage as well.

Soran D. Skies: Soran

Axilos Prius: TNG (He changed his name to Axilus now, I guess? Hm. Lots of name changes for him.)

Cherise Linowe: For a friend of mine, and to actually add a female character to the cast. Might make another to add some variety to the crew.

Yeah. Axilos Prius is used when something makes Axilus Prime not fit. Though Axilus Prime is now my main name for continuities. Just continue to call him Axilos rather than Axilus for the reasons in our PM.Must be an important mission if it got him that worked up..glad to make an appearance. That is also a great profile you GIMP'd up. The hammer is uneven though. And then everyone starts hitting on Cherise because she's the one female--just kidding.

Axilos is TNG, it's the name he uses for other canons such as this.
Sorry about that. It was really late and I was tired when I did that, I'll fix it now.
And then everyone starts hitting on Cherise because she's the one female--just kidding.
Cherise is Miles' closest friend on board - There's some development that'd make her reject pretty much anyone else. But hey, at least it's likely there will be another female at some point.

I'm kind of worried about all this hype for a new series when it doesn't seem like we're close to finishing this one. It looks like a fun series though. Will it be command based, like the current series, or totally author generated. And will there be further opportunities for GS/PGS?

Here's something to adress your concern:DoD is currently under development as I don't have access to all of my resources for D3, since my computer with all of that stuff on it unexpectedly broke.DoD is a side comic, author-based (My ideas) to differ from D3's more community-dependent ideals. PGSing/GSing will be adressed as needed for the moment.

No explanation on the second panel. Even if you think you know who it is, no one - and I mean no one - say anything about it. It's for your own thoughts only.

----------

First panel - Yes, I'm revising Doppler so he's not just a red, ragey version of Miles. Actually giving him some better purpose, and plot pointing.

Also, sorry I haven't updated much. Been really busy, as well as dealing with my whole computer situation. Oh well!

This comic was very interesting. Although this comic was very simple, just revealing that another character is getting revised, it also opened up a mystery, which are always fun. Its nice to see the amount of concern the characters have for the other characters. It helps show their relationship with them, open and trusting. I also like the direct change in the atmosphere. While the first panel shows a lot of trust and concern, the last panel shows devious plans commencing from someone unknown. I really like the shift from the atmosphere, its a nice concept you see rarely in most comics. As usual the backgrounds look really nice. For some reason the pixelated backgrounds just work really well. In most cases I wouldn't really think so but in this case it just does. I also like the slow change in the character's colors. It looks like you use the air brush tool to do this however. If you do I recommend instead using some other methods.Examples1. Layer Mask: The first method is the one I commonly use. Basically its like this: Create the sprite you need on a separate transparent layer. Then duplicate the layer. On the new duplicated layer, go to Colors > Brightness-Contrast. Then darken/contrast it to whatever you want the darkest 'shading' to be. After this right click that layer in the layer's window and click "Add layer mask". Then click "add" when the new window thing comes up (Don't change anything just click add). You should now have a white 'layer' by your current layer in the layer's window. Now go to your tool box and select the Blend Tool. Make sure your colors are black and white. Now make a gradient to whichever you want to blend (Black disappears, white stays opaque). This should result in the 1. Example. You can also add more layers such as adding another lighter one. This can also make a character look like they're disappearing.2. Selection: I don't really know what to call this but anyway, this is one I use but rarely. Its mainly to showcase the outline of the glow (such as what you're doing). Basically you do this: Create the sprite you want in a separate transparent layer. Then duplicate the layer and add whatever color you want (Either by filling the sprite with white for example or using other methods of coloring). Now duplicate the first layer again. On the newest layer gaussian blur it by however much you want it 'blended' (for the example I gaussian blurred it by 10). Now move the blurred sprite to wherever you want it to stop blending. Now go to Layers > Transparency > Alpha to selection and then delete the blurred layer (Don't click out of the selection). Now on the full colored layer (the layer you filled with another color) cut it. You should now have just part of the full colored layer. Now either lower the opacity of the layer or change the layer mode to overlay or something and you're done.If you have any questions ask me in Pm.Besides the 'shading'/ 'lighting' the graphics look great.I really like this series and I am happy to see it continued. Its fantastic story wise and visually and I can't wait to see the next comic.~Soran

GEO: That was a decision on my part.

GEO: I decided to pick somewhere simple this time, as there is something... serious that has come to my attention.

???: Yes. Now that we are all here, please explain.

VEE: So you've got something, too... I wondered why everyone was here first.

GEO: Right... well, here's the problem. I'm having issues tracking my timeline...

VEE: What?

veereact1.png

VEE: Geo, is what you say true?

GEO: My friend, I am not one to concern others with falsehoods. With all due respect, Vee, I would think you of all of us would know me better than that.

VEE: Yes.. apologies.

ZYG: I am wondering...

ZYG: Is there a reason we are all having these issues?

ZYG: Or is it just happenstance?

GEO: A simple coincidence of the wind, you might say?

ZYG: Yes. But it does seem a bit... improbable.

VEE: Agreed. How could this be a coincidence? There might be something going on.

???: Regardless, gentlemen. We do not know whether or not this is simply interference as we pass through the void.

???: As it stands now, we must wait, and not get involved until we are absolutely sure that we must intervene with our timelines.

VEE: ...I suppose we have no choice.

GEO: I will concede to your advice.

ZYG: I second that statement.

???: Good. Anyone else among us who has these problems, or are finding that you are also getting these problems, despite the fact that none of us are truly 'leaders', I would hope that you will also accept this.

This is certainly quite interesting. I like the appearance of the Observers and how they interact. I also like how the setting reminds me almost of a council or conference room, settling disputes and deciding things. I'm also wondering what might happen with Geo losing his timeline. I would think that the timelines are like a web, each being connected to one another. If one timeline gets lost and possibly breaks (if thats possible) so might the rest. This is just a theory of mine though.

I also like how all the observers have visors.
