kawaii kitty Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) thoughts on this, did they 'cook' with 2016, and do you think this means anything? Edited January 20 by kawaii kitty 3 Quote

Ogredriver Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I don't think it'll mean anything unfortunately. It seems similar to the way Microsoft keeps teasing frutiger aero aesthetics - they're just making the most of nostalgia for engagement (though we can all hope 🙃). It's still really nice to see Bionicle being mentioned on official channels though, that's always a good thing! 1 1 Quote

LEGO is like a ship of Theseus and it seems all the original creative voices who made Bionicle so beloved (Faber, Swinnerton, Farshtey, Thompson) left or got axed a long time ago. Lego still makes content, and unless you consume and enjoy that content, you probably wouldn't enjoy whatever slop they churned out and called G3. The most authentic way we could recreate the Bionicle experience is by making our own stuff. 4 1 Quote EXO-WARS: an EXO-FORCE fanfic "You are an absolute in these uncertain times. There is no such thing as a G2 fan. It sold so poorly that it didn't even get the 3rd year it was supposed to have. Yeah, it doesn't feel like the IG post was made by an actual fan to me. Aside from that certain sets were released in certain years, it doesn't demonstrate any particular knowledge of Bionicle. The image could easily have been one of the Rogue One sets and the post would make as much sense. It really does feel like nostalgia-bait and it's sad coming from the official headquarters. I remember when Guurahk appeared in that stop-motion Black Eye Piece video in 2011, and aside from me being younger and more idealistic, it was also an objectively more substantial reference that required more effort and gave us a visual of a classic set doing something new. Cheesy Mac n Cheese Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) “Cook.” I always thought slang was stupid, but it gets worse every year. I just cooked something and got sick after eating it, it’s not an inherently good thing. Not to mention phrases like “goose is cooked” meaning something inherently bad…. (Hey, yes they did! They cooked their own goose in 2016 by utterly failing Bionicle!) Anyway, nothing good will ever come of Bionicle again. Plus the whole Masks of Power thing really made me see Lego for what it is these days. And without Greg and Faber and some of the others, why bother? RedPandalorian Posted January 28 Posted January 28 I think the Bonkle references are ... strange. There are rumors about a Tahu minifigure, LEGO cancelled the Bionicle game (RIP Masks of Power), and LEGO is now nonstop about Bionicle references on their Instagram. Are they teasing new Bionicle merchandise? Are they ragebaiting? Or are they taking action, seeing how the fans have been keeping Bionicle alive? I think it is both teasing and ragebait. What about you? 2 Quote

I wouldn’t read too much into it, but the legal orders sometimes do mean they’re about to use their IP…but again, don’t read too much into it. 2 Quote My friend went to Po-Wahi and all I got was this lousy rock. What about you? There's a legal requirement to protect your IP, as it can mess up subsequent legal action if you fail to do so, so as Cheese says it's not worth reading too much into! The only thing I'm interested in is why Masks of Power was seemingly approved by LEGO before shutting it down (unless the quality just wasn't there for LEGO?) 2 Quote
InfinityStuffBionicle Posted February 1 Posted February 1 They could be planning G3, they could be just trying to keep the trademark without using it. But if it wasn’t an official Lego product…why would Lego care about quality? Again, don’t look too much into it. Nintendo used to routinely copyright/trademark things like “Pokémon WaterBlue Version” with absolutely no intention of making a game by that name.
