OOC: Ah... Well, then, I think I'll let you guy do that, then.

Taylor Finch, Goddess/New York City, Speaking with Steven\IC:

Taylor raised an illusory wall in front of the two villains and made them think they slamming right into it. This caused them to make themselves fall backwards, rubbing their faces. She quickly worked on an illusion of a falling semi truck. That always freaked out the villains.

Dieter Geist, Grau/Mansion Holding Aquarius, Helping the Escape\IC:

Grau wasn't tangible around the legs, but his hand and the rapier most definitely were tangible. Thus, he was unharmed by Maple-Man's roll. In fact, the hero had left himself open. What would meet this openness was a nice thrust through the spine to pierce his heart.

IC [NYC/Steven]All this time Steven, under the veil of a shadowy entity, had darted up to one of the villains, the geokinetic. He lashed out with a fist, smashing the man's nose but not before the villain stomped his foot, a pillar of rock smashing from the concrete and sending Steven sprawling, no longer under illusion. Needless to say, it wouldn't be good if he stayed there dazed.

IC:Skyra leapt upwards, just barely dodging the plasma beams as they sliced through the ground. He took to the skies, circling around Plasmafire at high speeds. The winds started to pick up, a tornado forming in the air around Plasmafire...Fade held up a wristblade, just barely blocking the katana before it could come down on his skull. Fade phased and spun about to try and hit Sakeme from behind... only to recoil backwards as pain resonated up and down his spinal column.“Phasing will do you little good, you realize. Your mind, your psychic field, extends beyond the physical plane. How attached you are to that plane is irrelevant. Now, kindly stand still and die; there is nothing you can do to prevent it, and your squirming is irritating to both of us."---The sports car spun to a halt, leaving skid marks across the ruined stone floor. Slowly, one of its doors slid open, Hivemind slumping from her seat and collapsing to the floor. She clutched at her chest, writhing in pain as she dragged herself from the car. Slowly, Hivemind glanced up as Gap drew closer."Hey... I didn't get any of Tornado's blood... on the paintjob... did I?" she gasped weakly between coughs and groans. "That''ll... take forever... to scrub off..."---It would appear Skyra and our other government agent have moved in to assist the fighting, Mystic thought to Loadstone. Curious, I did not believe them to be in any condition to figh-beepbeepbeepbeepbeep.The beeping of her headset drew Mystic out of her mind, nearly causing her to lose her footing in the process. Mystic tightened her grip on Loadstone's arm and switched her comm on with the aid of her telekinesis; psychic powers were useful when a situation required a hands-free approach."What in the name of sanity could you possibly need now of all times- ...A shark?" Mystic sounded absolutely dumbfounded for once. "...Fine, fine, we deal in stranger things daily. I am otherwise occupied at the moment, but will attempt to assist once this matter has been resolved. In the meantime, start making inquiries into just what this 'Operation Lockdown' is. I don’t care how much red tape you have to cut through, I want to know exactly what we're dealing with here. And I want reports from all our contacts in Atlantea; if this Lady Hexas has the firepower she claims, then it's unlikely she could have gone without attracting their attention."Mystic switched her comm back off, turning her focus back to the other crisis she was dealing with. This was becoming one of those days...[For Science]

OOC: For the record, once this debacle in the League base is over, Omega and/or Shard could use something to do. If TPtI/Glove's plot has any space...IC: A wall of shimmering, orange energy formed in front of the villain, even as Omega rushed up behind her, fists raised. As he approached, he charged a bolt of energy and swung his fist at the- Okay, this is getting ridiculous. "Waitwaitwait- Time out!" Omega stopped dead in mid-air and held up his hands in the traditional T symbol for a time out (traditional in soccer, anyway). "I cannot keep thinking of you as the crazy lady with the disintegrating stick. It's getting old really fast. What's your name, anyhow?"|H-D|NPC: As the broadcast ended, Carapace sighed, shaking his head. Three months ago it would have taken him maybe fifteen minutes to trace that, figure out not only who or what was really behind it (the shark was not impossible, but he always suspected someone behind the scenes) but where they were, why they did it and the names of every single individual being working for them, and decide whether to quietly point the League in the right direction or let them figure it out for themselves. Before the invasion his information network had given him practically any intel he wanted from anywhere in the world. But that was then. Now any number of his agents were dead, others in hiding and most had just forgotten their loyalties - not that they had ever known who they were really working for, but the groups they worked in had mostly disbanded. He was having enough trouble now just getting the Spain branch up and running again. After the royal family died trying to flee Technax's robots the entire country was in chaos. Well, he decided, no use moping. Might as well get started. He tapped a few keys and set a couple of programs in motion - one to track the source of that hacking, the other to hack the UN databases and get him the Project: Lockdown files. Better see what all the fuss was about...{H-D}

IC: The shift in the crowd was enough for Sluice to take note of; curious, she led Fellwyd around its edge as she tried to get a better look at what was going on nearer the centre. Then when she noticed the flash of grey inamongst the bodies she amped up the pace. Weaving and squeezing herself through the crowd she soon came to the figure standing in a clearing at its centre: Mastermind.Perhaps, she thought, she could save herself and Fellwyd a lot of time and effort by straight-up questioning the psychic. They were only here to gain information about Silver after all - she could happily leave the task of disbanding this illegal tournament for another day, given that the only people getting hurt here were criminals."Excuse me," she said. Her voice seemed louder in the silence that seemed to surround the psychic.IC: The jaw segment of Gadgeteer's faceplate had been raised, revealing a heavily-bearded mouth as it munched on a sandwich. The bronze-and-gold 'hero' was sitting upon the ledge of a tall building, facing the impressive headquarters of the UN and waiting patiently.IC: "Um." Gap paced around the vehicle, craning her head to peek at its underside, seeking the sight of Tornado's body - or at least a part of it...

OOC: Indeed, I missed that.

Dieter Geist, Grau/Mansion Holding Aquarius, Helping the EscapeIC:

Grau noticed the lack of air around his head. Not too much of a problem, as he had less substance and less need of air when he was intangible. Plus, he could just pull air directly through his body and into his lungs if he needed to do so. That was nifty. Either way, he would handle this vacuum-making hero after he had stabbed Maple-Man a few dozen times.

IC: Carapace's search through the UN files turned up a grand total of nothing. No convenient files that explained everything, no documentation with the name, not even a passing reference in anything else. That was more than a little odd. Assuming Operation Lockdown did exist (and Lady Hexas was sure enough it did that she was prepared to ransom a city) then it would appear that someone had gone through the bureaucracy of the UN and deleted every mention of Operation Lockdown. Well that was suspicious...On the plus side, the tracing of the shark's signal was more successful. Lady Hexas had needed a big transmitter to reach all those satellites, and she'd got one. The signal led to Jodrell BankOutside the UN building there was a flash of light accompanied by a whirring sound. When light and noise abated an alien was standing on the pavement. His skin was the grey rubber of a dolphin, his eyes were enormous and black, his whole frame rather gangly and thin. Tek looked a lot like the stereotypical idea of an alien. Those idea's had probably been based on earlier visitors of his race. He wore a baggy environment suit in silver, complete with a small gas-mask over what passed for his mouth. Earth's atmosphere was toxic to him, it was why he spent most of his time on his small space station up in orbit. It looked like he was going inside, so now would be the perfect time for anyone waiting outside who specialised in technology to get a secret bug into the meeting

NPC: At least a few in the crowd who noticed shook their head in a feeble attempt to alert the new pair to the foolish nature of their action. But any attempt at a warning came too late, for Mastermind's attention had already been drawn."What is it?" Mastermind asked coldly, turning to look at the one who had interuppted his thoughts. He didn't seem terribly pleased to have been selected for a chat, even if asked nicely: he much preffered everyone just cowering away. The girl must be either very bold or very thick... or even worse... be new and still think herself as being one of the top dogs in the competition. The obvious alien or horribly mutated human beside her had remained quiet so far, something Mastermind commended him for: the less annoying he was the less likely the psychic might assault them out of sheer irritation. The mutant's tail prominently swung through the air behind him gently, its movements one of agitation. Sluice's bold plan could pay off if Mastermind was a talker but it somehow seemed unlikely he'd just tell them all they wanted to know for free.OOC: Depending on her question/s, I'm tempted to have Mastermind give responses that may goad Sluice into trying to punch his lights out... :P Also, for those curious as to the bad guy of this plot arc... I can't reveal the primary yet, but the secondary antagonist looks something like this:

Who's that Pokemon Monster?

He's as stolen as Mastermind's design, and is also Japanese, but from a different series... :3

OOC: Is it a bug Digimon?May I present the mysterious (and maybe mad) mental menace, Mastermind (whose makeup mimics that of Mewtwo)!

Mastermind.png

IC: The aggressive reaction didn't come as an enormous shock to Sluice; this was a criminal tournament after all. She'd decided to address their target somewhat politely to avoid provoking a fight - but she didn't want to go too far and draw attention because of her niceties. Then again, simply talking to Mastermind appeared to have drawn a lot of attention from the others."I just noticed - that cloak you have on," said Sluice. "I looks awfully to familiar to me, but I can't place it. Did you use to go by a different alias? Or did you maybe get it from a friend of yours?"IC: Viktor nearly choked on the last bite of his sandwich as the alien materialised before the UN building. He knew nothing of the League's alien ally, and the being's grey, rubbery skin actually led Viktor to a wholly different conclusion about Tek's identity; that he must be an ally of the shark-like Lady Hexas. It seemed a little odd that she should send an agent to infiltrate the UN shortly after demanding that others do it for her, but he didn't want to waste effort attempting the fathom the workings of a supervillain shark's mind.Gadgeteer's faceplate slid shut and he straightened up. His first impulse was to leap down, grab the creature and beat information out of it, but logic immediately overruled that course of action. Better to let the agent carry on his business and follow discreetly, letting the small fry lead him to the big fish. So to speak. The 'follow discreetly' part was something of an insurmountable obstacle however, given that the Gadgeteer armour was hardly capable of blending into the shadows, and when running it clanked about as much as your average steam engine. There was still a way for Viktor to track Tek's movements, however. He waited for the creature to go inside, then leapt down onto ground level (impacting noisily, but the closed doors of the building should block the sound). From the right palm of the armour a small structure began to extend, like a series of small metal pins of varying length. This was what Viktor called an 'adaptible connection port', and basically allowed him to hack into almost any electronic system; a car; an ATM, you name it.Dotted around the building were a number of security cameras mounted on tall poles. Gadgeteer marched toward the closest of these. There was a raised panel on one side; he gripped it with his metal fingers and, with some effort, wrenched it open, revealing the coil of wires inside.Though the surrounding street was quiet, it wasn't completely empty. One passing civilian stopped when he saw Gadgeteer, and stared at the mechanical man with a look of bewilderment.Gadgeteer noticed the man's stare. "Superhuman maintenance," he muttered. The man seemed satisfied with the explanation and carried on.Gadgeteer extended his right arm, pressing his palm against the wires - the spiky port pierced some of the wires and immediately began shifting, accompanied by a faint whirring sound. In moments a small square had appeared in the corner of Viktor's HUD, displaying the view as seen from the camera above. He was in. With a few mental commands he managed to switch between the viewpoints of several cameras, including those located inside the building, until the position of the grey-skinned being became visible to him...

OOC: That rendition of Mastermind makes me so happy I can barely express it! And also blatantly reveals that he doesn't wear pants... :fear:And gosh Snelly you can use that answer for anything! D:<NPC: "You and half the planet would have some recollection of it, for it once belonged to the psychic who dueled Technax when he took a number of world leaders hostage... given that fight was broadcast worldwide, it is no surpise I get questions about it. Unfortunatly he longer had need for it, so I liberated it... along with his powers, adding them to my own. His were especially potent, enough that I traced him to his snowy landing after the Mothership exploded so spectatularly" Mastermind waved off her bold directness as being too curious for her own good, with the mouth to match. His tone was of one of annoyed boredom, and it seemed like he'd told this story many times before, but more disturbingly the mutant seemed to be gloating about his achievement. If his words were true, then Silver HAD escaped the Mothership's explosion...

Dieter Geist, Grau/Mansion Holding Aquarius, Helping the EscapeIC:

He could hold his breath for a minute or two while stabbing Maple-Man. A few bullets should then knock the concentration of this new hero. Unless, of course, he was stuck stabbing his current opponent forever. Probably not, though.

Taylor Finch, Goddess/New York City, Speaking with StevenIC:

With Steven right beside the two, she had to alter the illusion slightly. Oh sure, it was still a semi falling on them. Back when it hit Steven's head, that section completely snapped off the rest. That would likely lead the two into thinking that, while they were now severely bruised, steven was invinsible. Of course, all that happened was her tricking their minds and bodily funtions, but they now likely thought they were done for.

NPC: The MD looked up, apparently annoyed at the interruption. "Talking sharks now? Wonderful, just when I was getting some work done. Speaking of which, most of the burn wounds have been healed, though he'll need new bandages - burn victims have a notorious appetite for bandages - and he won't be awake for a few-"At this point he was interrupted by a moan from the man in the full-body cast. This appeared to surprise the MD as much as anyone. The moaning continued for a few moments, then gradually resolved itself to something that, if you listened closely, resembled words. "Ohhh... Ohhh... Nohhh... No wealth nor ruin... No silver nor gold... Nothing satisfies him but your... soul..."NPC: Carapace actually found both results very interesting. The entire point of bureaucracy was that everything was recorded, all files had redundancies, there was evidence of everything. This Operation: Lockdown? Not a single trace. This lead to one of two conclusions: Either it didn't exist, at least not as a UN operation, and this Lady Hexas had been decieved somehow; or else someone had gone to great lengths to conceal it. But there is always evidence of an act, otherwise it would have never been committed. In this case the evidence would be found in absence. He set one computer to track down anomalies in the UN's supplies, logistics and resources, anything that should be there but wasn't. Oh, there would be plenty of little things. A few embezzlements here, a theft or two there, maybe something he could use for blackmail - but he was looking for something that pointed directly to a major military or scientific operation. Money. Scientific supplies useless on the market. Weapons. He would review the results personally when they came in...In the meantime, another computer got to work analyzing everything of note in the area of Jodrell Bank. It would tell him if the signal really came from there, or was simply through routed there from somewhere else, even by landline. Of course it was possible it would have to be traced manually, he used that trick himself, but it was still worth a shot. He might turn up something useful-An alert. From the UN building. So soon? Normally it would've taken almost an hour to even decide whether to call a meeting. What was it Eugene McCarthy said? The only thing that saves us from the bureaucracy is its inefficiency. Regardless, this alert. He checked the security cameras outside the building. Was that a grey? Last time he saw one of those was on a dissection table. Probably best not to reveal that to this one. It seemed to be going inside the building. Interesting. And, oh, there was someone else, a hero or villain likely. A quick file search confirmed... that he had no idea who this person was. Someone matching the description was seen failing to stop a bank robbery earlier, though. Must be new. Regardless, he seemed to have thought of the same thing as Carapace: Watch the alien through the cameras. Seeing no reason to stop him, the insectoid mastermind carefully hid his own presence in the network and leaned back. Time to wait and see how this plays out...{H-D}

IC [NYC/NPC]While Steven was groaning and trying to form a coherent thought, the villains were starting to realize something. The larger man was only slightly above average intelligence, but the geokinetic was something else entirely. He had seen a lot of strange things in his time, fighting superheros and such, but never before had he seen semitrailer fall from the sky. Then that hero who he had knocked out of the way, his shadowy form seeming to vanish when his concentration broke, and then him somehow being invincible? All of this dawned on him as the trailer was seconds away from crushing them, and he put two and two together. He jabbed his elbows in, two sheets of rock coming up and creating a sort of rock tent. He had already realized this, but it was unlikely his larger ally had."They're illusionists." He said simply."Illusionists? What makes you think that?" The larger man stared concernedly at the rock, expecting it to break any moment now."Semitrailers don't fall from the sky randomly; there's other options, but I'm pretty sure this is it. Still, illusions can be deadly. I don't know what sort of illusions they are, so we have to be careful. There is one thing I know will work though." He smashed his foot into the ground, another rift forming as the concrete split, the rift heading directly for the pesky heroine behind the illusions. "I believe that your abilities will come in handy now. If you would."So the duo began running off, the large man holding the plate of rock so that the heroine couldn't see them while the geokinetic made smaller but still dangerous rifts everytime his feet made contact with the ground.

OOC: I may be reading your post wrong H-D, but Gadgeteer has only been active as a hero since this morning (RPG-time) - and that was simply to fail to thwart a bank robbery and fail to catch Steven - so Gadgeteer wouldn't be easily recognisable at all. Actually his name might even be a mystery, as he's spoken it a grand total of one times and unless Carapace's contacts are monitoring America Big Brother-style I doubt it'd have been noticed. :PAlso I'd have responded to Whistler myself Shadows, since I've a few NPCs I've established as being at the League Court, but I figured it'd better to let TPTI respond since, it being his plot, he knows which direction to point you in. If not then I'll be happy to step in.IC: Now Sluice was shocked. She was glad again that the goggles of her supersuit concealed her eyes, for Mastermind would otherwise have seen them widen. He might just be lying in order to show off. "Whereabouts did you say he landed? I d-didn't >ahem< realise he was alive. Taylor Finch, Goddess/New York City, Speaking with StevenIC:

Well, hadn't taken long for them to figure out that trick. At least they were intelligent enough. However, that was what Goddess wanted. She had set a precedent of obvious, flashy illusions. Now she would be able to use subtle, realistic illusions to catch them off-guard. As she pulled off the encumbering dress she was wearing and tossed it to the side, revealing the supersuit beneath, she jogged after them - slightly off a straight path so as to avoid the crags. The villains probably wouldn't expect a taxi to wheel around a corner and try to screech to a halt, failing and hitting them in the process.

IC [NYC/NPC]Indeed, it did work; while they were busy ignoring the over the top illusions, they didn't think the taxi was fake. This didn't quite work the way the heroine wanted though; the strong man put the chunk of rock in front of then, and the illusion splintered for both. The large man imagined he had flown back from the impact, and the geokinetic dived out of the way, a rift moving him away. When he saw his ally fall, twitching as his mind played tricks on him, he decided it was time to make a serious run for it. His rift assisted dive though had taken him near Steven though, who had regained most of his intelligent thoughts and took a dive at the villain. It was here Steven tested something out.He could make illusions around himself, and he would feel what the illusion felt. So what if he could push an illusion onto someone else? So he did; the villains legs were replaced by bloody and torn versions. This had two effects; one, the villain screamed out in pain. Two, he payed Steven back for the nose and happily broke the Peruvian's nose. Even as Steven rolled off in pain the illusion shattered, the geokinetic rolled as well, trying to get away.

OOC: Yeah, definitely blood-covered holes in this instance. No problem, really - next to just thumping people on the head with a log, the internet is the second-least-effective form of accurate communication.

We will remember - Skies may fade and stars may wane; we won't forget

And your light shines bright - yes so much brighter shine on

We will remember - Until the skies will fall we won't forget

We will remember

We all shall follow doom

Taylor Finch, Goddess/New York City, Speaking with StevenIC:

Goddess found the results good. The massive villain slammed his head into a traffic signal's support pole. Slightly disconcerting was the fact that said pole was snapped in half, with the villain only feeling pain. Still, he was busy rubbing the back of his head and groaning, so could focus upon the geokinetic villain. Smirking, she did something that was, again, completely unexpected - one of the many pigeons of the city released it's waste, which fell right into his eyes and mouth. Now he would probably vomit and be crying so hard that he would blind himself.

IC [NYC/NPC]The results were less than expected; the man was rolling, using the earth to move him along, his eyes and mouth shut so he didn't get a mouth full of gravel or a punctured eye. That, combined with the sheer unlikelyhood of the event, was enough for the intelligent geokinetic to put two and two together and ignore the illusion, though he did have a foul taste in his mouth for a moment. He stopped, the earth pushing him to his feet as he flipped the bird to the female illusionist then punched the concrete, earth rising up around him then receding, leaving nothing. A risky move, but it was enough to get him to the next block over, buildings blocking Goddess' line of sight. The larger villain was still groaning, apparently out of the battle.Steven pulled himself up, uneasily standing then cursing something in Spanish. He felt his nose for a moment, then an illusion formed, and he was back to the woman who had left Goddess' penthouse. He shakily walked over to her, looking in the direction of the rift that had taken the geokinetic away."Thing about these villains is, they're always so flashy, and rarely think of these things in the heat of battle. He's gone for now." He winced. "Good thing about real illusions is they dull the actual pain."

Goddess sighed as she replied, "I'm sure. I kinda wish that my illusions were real, because then I would have been able to stop that guy. But at least we got this one; mind creating a pair of handcuffs? I'll make him believe that they're unbreakable."

IC [NYC/Steven]"It doesn't work like that; if he so much as got a meter away from me I'd get a nose bleed. I do think this will work, though." The illusionist walked up to the mumbling and groaning villain, giving him a swift kick to the head. Steven's frame may of been thin, but his legs still had some omphf. "He won't be getting around for a few hours. This wasn't a complete waste of time, I guess. I found out I can project illusions onto other people. If you don't mind..." Not bothering to wait for a response, Steven touched the heroine's arm, the skin turning a darker color for a moment before he took his hand off, the skin reverting to normal. "Figured as much; I have to have full contact for it to work."

IC (Surge): Seeing the movement towards the room that Elliot was in, Surge decided he didn't need to hang around at the front desk, so after throwing a "Thanks!" over his shoulder, he zipped back to the room. "Now just tell me what I can do to help." he announced. "I can control energy. Powers might not solve everything, but they can sure come in handy." he said, glancing at the doc.

"I don't know, he seems to still be conscious, just in extreme pain. He broke that pole in half, but his head isn't even bleeding... But I guess we'll stay here and call the League to pick him up. Anyways, that's an interesting revelation... But couldn't you create that bird earlier? That wasn't in direct contact," she pointed out to Steven as she pulled out a cellphone and called the League.

IC [NYC/Steven]"A projection, yes, but nothing like projecting onto a real person. I made that geokinetic's legs cut to ribbons, and he felt that pain. I can't just do something like that from a distance; probably one of the laws of the universe. That bird was mere vapors, a seemingly solid object that was anything but. You could of pet it if you were careful, but that's far from being able to put an illusion on someone else from a distance."
