Hapori Tohu Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 After 50 years in Japan, LEGO decided to celebrate with an event they called <a href='http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/13/5000-kids-create-futurist_n_1772930.html' target='offsite'>"Build Up Japan"</a>. During the March and April event, children worked on a giant map of Japan, sections of which sat in six different regions across Japan. Participants were asked to envision their ideas of Japan's future in the wake of last year's tsunami. The completed island contains around 1.8 million Lego Bricks.View the full article Quote News Forums Q&A
The Iron Toa Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 For some reason I thought of Coruscant when I first saw this, but as it's an island, I think comparing it to Metru Nui or Artakha would be much more appropriate.Anyway, that's awesome. I wish the color scheme was better, though. FrozenFlash Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 This looks awesome! I really like the colors and the details of the buildings. Quote
Vorahk1Panrahk2 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 No disrespect to the Japanese, but that's a depressing amount of buildings. As a model it has lots of great details and nice visual appeal, but I would hope the country doesn't become one giant city. Quote BZPRPG Profiles
Meiko Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 This is very cool. If I could, I'd love to see it in real life to look up-close at all the little details. iPenguin Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Oh my god. I was reading the article half-expecting some cheesy-yet-cute multicoloured superbly ecstatic legoized city, but that was pretty fricken sweet. Quote Majhost sucks

Mare Tranquillitatis Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Awesome! 1.8 million bricks... That's a lot. I can't even imagine how much it is. But it's kinda depressing with all those skyscrapers. Quote
Toa Smoke Monster Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 For some reason, it reminded me of a city from the LotR.But anyway, This looks really cool! I would very much like to see it in-person. Quote Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story.
Calles Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 The ivory was a really nice choice. Looks very clean and classy. I suppose the large collection of windmills represents a desire for clean energy? If so, tremendous idea. Quote
fishers64 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 That's Lego Bricks, and not some fancy, amazingly intricate sculpture...Wow. Quote Hero Factory RPG | Bionicle Mafia XXIX: Storyline & Theories

Devorath Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Awesome, but what happened to the color? Either the world has a paint shortage or there is a freak blizzard in Japan. I'm still deciding what option is more probable.Awesome, but what happened to the color? Either the world has a paint shortage or there is a freak blizzard in Japan. Liopleurodon Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 That is so cool...they should make an Earth sculpture out of Lego parts. Quote
Makuta DUSt Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) It looked great at first glance, until I realised something; Where's the nature? Where's the water? The beaches? Where are the parks? It reminds me more of Thneedville than Japan. But I shouldn't blame anyone. After all, the builders were children, and that's a very impressive build. Looks great, aside from the lack of wildlife. I just hope it doesn't end up fully like this. Edited August 21, 2012 by Toa of the Nova Corps Quote
