I continued doing Thieves quests in order to improve the Guild. I did enough for the remaining two cities, Markarth and Solitude, and started the special missions. I decided to wrap up a few misc quests. First I went to Yngvild to find the ravings of a mad Necromancer. I fought through some ghosts and Draugr. I found several of his journals along the way. I returned to the College of Winterhold to see if Arniel's experiment was a success. Upon arrival I and several mages fought an Ancient Dragon. I talked to another mage who said that a rift had been opened by the Eye and I need to close it. I made it to Arniel; turns out he was missing yet another item. I set out to Dawnstar to help East Empire Trading by dealing with some pirates. I spoke to one, seeking information on their base of operations. He wouldn't talk so I beat it out of him. I walked around town picking up more quests, including finding 3 pieces of a Daedric weapon, and figuring out why all the citizens were having nightmares. I went after the staff that Enthir wanted. When I got to the cave, I fought a named dragon. He was pretty weak. Inside I found myself fighting many powerful mages. One point in particular was very tough because it was a bottleneck that essentially funneled me into their attacks. I decided to start things off with the Thieves' quest, so I snuck into the bee farm via sewers. I also snuck through the house, as killing isn't a thief's way.
