  1. Oh gosh, it's been a while. Seriously, I haven't been on here for over a year. It's kinda nice to be back. ^_^

Right now I'm in the lovely state of Virginia, sitting with awesome people, reflecting over an amazing week. What kinda of amazingness you may ask?

    Brickfair.

I was lucky enough to be able to come to Brickfair this year with my sister, Nikira. We were picked up from our house on Wednesday afternoon by Hahli Husky, Senjo, and Friar Tuck. Then came the long 8 hours drive to Virginia, passing through Pennsylvania once and West Virginia twice. We arrived at our place of temporary residence, the home of one Smeagol4. He was gracious enough to open his abode to us, as well as to others. I got to meet some amazing staffers, including Darth Vader, InnerRayg, Black Six! The only bad thing that happened was that DV and Rayg lost their luggage, which was so very sad. :< We all went to bed exhausted.

The next day, we went over to the convention center to register and start setting up the tables. First off, I gotta say that the Brickfair badges are incredible. They are so much fun. Anywho, after we set up and the opening ceremonies were over(there were door prizes and bingo), Smeag went to pick up another staffer(ToM Dracone) and we all went to dinner. Well, most of us went to dinner. A lot of people got very lost and confused, but the food was good, so it was worth it.

The only thing I can remember about Friday was we went grocery shopping.....that's all.....and we ate Tacos for dinner. They were amazing.

Saturday was the first public day, which is where normal people who aren't crazy and come at normal times get to come and look at all the fun stuff. We spent most of the day just hanging out and people-watching. When these normal people were kicked out (around 4), we spent a while looking around at all the vendors, finding all sorts of treasures and spending way too much money. I mainly bought little random things that i didn't need but really wanted. That also included a minifigure which I hastily put on my Brickfair badge. She's a pirate. She is amazing. After we left and came back to the dwelling place, HH and Senjo made us this amazing pasta. It was INCREDIBLE!!

Sunday was the second public day, but some of us played hookie and didn't go. ToM, HH, Smeag, Niki, Senjo, Tuck and I stayed behind cause we really wanted to go swimming. Like, really bad. So, that's what we did. We got up at a ripe hour of 11, then we chilled for a little while, and then we went swimming. It was fun and stuff. We came back around 3:30 and Niki and I attempted to make lunch/dinner. It worked, but we were rushed so we had to eat on the run. We went back to the center around 4:40 and helped tear down some stuff. Closing ceremonies then ensued and there were more door prizes. So many staffers won things, and even some staffers who didn't come to Brickfair won stuff(kinda; they technically had to be there in order to win). We were all truly ecstatic for everyone. Shortly after the door prizes were all given away and people dispersed, we all started a pow-wow and planned for dinner. The staffers wanted to have a fancy dinner night where we all dress up in nice clothes and go eat foodz. We did so, and the amazing Steve Witt joined us for an amazing night of frivolity and food.

So that's where I am now. I'm sitting at the place of residence, listening to people talk. We're going to be able to sleep in, chill tomorrow, and pack. It will be awesome. I will be sad to say goodbye to people, but I'm content knowing this: Brickfair 2011 is only one year away, and I'll be able to see all these amazing people again. :satisfied:

  2. Hope everyone is doing good. <3 I just wanted to wish a Happy Birthday to me and all the other people who celebrate a birthday on this day. I will have a Laser-Tag birthday party on Saturday. I'll let you know how it goes. *wink*

  4. A pseudo-apology to the players of BC3, in the form of new and more powerful classes:

    BC3 Addition: Breaker and Alchemist

So like Brawler and Caster months ago, Breaker and Alchemist are another attempt at shaking up gameplay in BC3. While the former two were mainly an attempt to introduce more unusual fighting styles, these two new classes focus on different stat combinations, and an accompanying play style. Let's look at each one separately.

Breaker: Breakers focus on Offense and Defense, with average HP and Speed. Breakers are very nearly a blend of Shooter and Defender: powerful tanking capabilities, and great offensive techniques. Throw in a few debuffing moves, and Breakers can dominate in PvP. But it's better to show rather than tell, right :P ? Here's their base stats and starting moves.

    Stats:

    HP: 15

    Offense: 6

    Defense: 6

    Speed: 3

    Abilities:

Break (Attack, w/ 50% chance of inflicting Break status for 3 turns; Cooldown 4)

Target Lock (Attack for 0.5x Damage, but gives user Critical status for 3 turns; Cooldown 5)

Punishment (1+???x Damage: every Ability on Cooldown and buff on target increases move damage by 50%; Cooldown 6)

Depowering Strike (Attack; cancels Empower; Cooldown 4)

Juggernaut (Multiplies Speed and Offense by 1.2x, but can only use Techniques until voluntarily disabled; Cooldown 10)

    Techniques:

Elemental Blade (Standard Attack; 20% chance of element's status)

Grand Lunge (Fearsome two-strike combo w/ 80% accuracy; first strike grants Break to target OR debuff all stats by 20% if already present; second strike grants Critical to user OR buffs all stats by 20% if already present; Charge 3)

Empower+ (Empowers self with elemental energy, for increased elemental damage and random stat by 1.2x; Charge 2)

As you can see, Breakers can 'break' a player's offensive capability: the ideal combo of Grand Lunge, Break, and Target Lock can cripple enemies and leave the user in a position of immense power. Punishment is exactly what it says: constantly using either simply makes it stronger. Since many of you end up using all four of your Abilities in a row, often with Empower, Punishment can inflict up to 3.5x (1 + 5*0.5) weapon damage, without calculating stats. And if Punishment isn't a smart move, you can always take away a useful advantage with Depowering Strike, while Empower+ gives yourself a powerful advantage. Of course, should two Breakers fight, who knows what could happen... And of course, many of the strategies players use aren't as common to NPCs, reducing Breakers' effectiveness against them.

Alchemist: Neya inspired this one: a jack-of-all-trades class. While Alchemist isn't strictly that (it does focus on Speed and HP), it has a far greater variety of options available. Alchemists can theoretically do anything, but feature an element of chance to balance. Here are their base stats and moves:

    Stats:

    HP: 25

    Offense: 3

    Defense: 3

    Speed: 6

    Abilities:

Chaos Potion (45% chance of reducing all enemy stats by 20%, 45% chance of inflicting random status effect, 5% chance both, 5% chance neither; Cooldown 5)

Harmony Potion (60% chance of buffing one ally/self's stats by 20%, 35% chance of buffing all allies stats by 20%, 5% chance neither; Cooldown 6)

    Blast Potion (40% chance 1.5x Damage, 30% chance 2.5x Damage, 20% chance 1x Damage, 10% chance 0x Damage; Cooldown 4)

Healing Potion (50% chance 25% max HP heal on target, 20% chance 25% max HP heal on all allies, 20% chance full heal on one target, 5% chance Elixir effect, 5% chance Megalixir effect; Cooldown 6)

Mix and Match (40% chance of activating two random Potions, 40% chance of badly poisoning oneself, 20% chance of forming Nova Potion; Cooldown 10)

    Techniques:

Alchemist Smash (Standard Attack; 20% chance of element's status)

Nova Potion (Extremely volatile combination of materials; 40% chance 2x Damage to all allies, 60% chance 4x Damage; Charge 2)

This is essentially a novice Alchemist: it can buff, debuff, deal damage, or heal, but with very little control over the final effect. However, don't discount its power: Healing Potion can be the most powerful heal in the game because it's based on the target, not the user's weapon. Harmony Potion has a 95% chance of buffing one target; the chances only matter in a party. Essentially, the reason this Alchemist features so much chance is to make it powerful enough to be viable, while not too game breaking. A fully-trained Alchemy Master in Tier 2 will have full control over each potion, but at that level will be less directly powerful compared to other Tier 2 Classes.

I have more entries than most of my non-premier friends here, yet much less comments. *glares at Hahligirl56* Do you hate me?

Aaanyway, three more days of work to go. 'Tis fun, just wrapping up my presentation and report.

Summer went by too fast. I thought that by getting a job, it'd go slower. APPARANTLY NOT!

I'm annoyed. Whatever happened to the creative messages? What happened to "Binky is stinky", "Bio Rex likes cheese", and the bubble wrap? Curse the upgrade!

Nah, I love it. Much cleaner interface. Now if they'd only update with the BZP classic skin, I'd be set.

Speaking of, whatever happened to the skins from the skins contest? It's been, what, a year now? Bleh.

And now I'll leave with a picture of me, MNOLG style. Credits to Matoran Onknu for the Kit, which I must say is awesome.

Just to be safe, I bid you all a happy afterlife.

  7. Hey BZP. It's been a while. Glad to see you're still around.

You know, it's been 13 years since I registered here when I was just a kid and wow, how life has changed.

I guess the biggest change would be how about 8 or so months ago I came out of the closet and decided to live life true to myself as a woman. It's been great and everyone in my life has been supportive. Not really the reason I'm writing this though, not sure I really have a reason for writing this.

October is almost over, and that means my birth month and favorite time of year is coming to a close, but every October I end up thinking about this place and what it meant, and still means to me.

I just wanted to thank all the admins, mods, and awesome users over the years for creating a wonderful community and more than that, keeping it around for so long past the expiration of the franchise it was based on. I know BZP isn't what it used to be, and I'm okay with that, things change, as I've learned through life.

And at the end of the day? Change ain't so bad.

Thanks for listening to my stream of consciousness throw words at a blog post for a while.

  11. As you can probably see if you look 3 entries down, I was making a Lego Squall and Gunblade. Yes, I know that was a long time ago, but I lost my Premier Membership and haven't been able to put it up here. So here it is, my Squall Leonhart Minifig.

I'm sick and tired of people telling me that they are the same thing. They aren't. From my example up above, surely you too can see the differences. Let me list for you some new or otherwise improved features from Windows Vista...

    * Windows Aero desktop theme. This is not only a new window decoration, menu, and icon theme, but also a 3D graphical enhancement that offers translucency and fading effects for windows and dialogues.
    * Improved data backup. Windows Vista comes with a framework for backing up important documents and data, or the entire operating environment, to removable media.
    * Live search. If you lose track of your files, this will help you find them.
    * Self-healing and shadow copy. Windows Vista can detect some kinds of errors and data corruptions and either correct them or roll back a file to a previously saved version. The same applies to accidentally saved files -- you can roll them back to a previous state.
    * Windows Fax and Scan. Improved faxing and scanning tools.
    * Windows Mail replaces Outlook Express. This modern email client replaces the notoriously insecure Outlook Express.
    * Improved configuration tools. Every facet of the control panel has been enhanced. Configuration tools offer more options and make configuring things like the sound system and network connections much easier.
    * Windows Defender security suite. This collection of anti-virus, firewall, and spyware removal tools supplants the need for several expensive third-party applications.
    * Internet Explorer 7 replaces IE6. One of the worst Web browsers in modern history gets a major overhaul, including vastly improved JavaScript and W3C standards support, and dynamic security protection that helps stave off phishing schemes on the Web.
    * Parental controls and enhanced user account control. You can now set better limits on Web and media content through Vista's parental controls framework. You can also create user accounts that don't have administrator permissions, which prevents the system from being changed in harmful ways. Windows XP and 2000 had this, but it never worked as intended.
    * Windows Media Center added, Windows Media Player upgraded to version 11. There is an updated version of Windows Media Player for audio, but if you want your computer to function as a multimedia appliance (even or especially if only temporarily) or watch a DVD, you'd go through WMC.
    * Windows Photo Gallery. This program copies photos from your camera, tags them according to your preference, and shows them to you in thumbnail or slideshow views.
    * Windows Mobility Center and improved wireless networking tools. The Mobility Center makes it easier to manage laptop-oriented settings, like sound, wireless networking, power-saving functions, and screen brightness. Additionally, it's much easier to connect to wireless networks in Vista than it was in XP.

Now, some of you might ask me 'But Macs have had those things for a while now! Windows just ripped us off!'. Well, you're wrong. See, many features in Windows Vista have been around during the development of Longhorn (Which was canceled, due to an excess of features), and even more around since Windows 2000! Surely that will tell you a heap about just what Microsoft really has produced, and what Apple has blatantly ripped off and made it easier to use for people that aren't adept to the real world.

    More coming later!
  12. I'd like to think I make sufficient an impact on the forums that people would notice that I'd gone on holiday for a week, but that's probably wishful thinking. :P

Anyway, I've been in Cornwall for the week. Most of it was beaches, playing pool, and having to drive far too much. The one day I'll cover in slight detail is Friday, or at least I think it was Friday. Me and my friends went to Truro. While walking about the shopping area, my eyes were drawn to Hawkin's Bazaar, mainly as I thought the chain had gone bust. It's certainly closed down where I live. Anyway, inside the store, I saw a Lego-like display. What it actually was, was this. Sorry for the not particularly brilliant pictures, my friends wanted to leave the shop so I was in a hurry, and I was only using my phone as well. The sets themselves resemble the Lego system, but thats not unheard of. What was fascinating is taking a closer look at those cans on the top shelf. Here you can see a very close resemblance to the Visorak canisters. VERY close. They're £5 each, so they're cheaper than Lego. The set only bares a very vague similarity to Bionicle though. There's a couple more pics here.

The other highlight of Truro was seeing this place. :P

It really makes me sick that virtually no one comments in the BBC forum unless it is a topic by a "Good MoCist". The BBC forum is there so people can post their MoCs, and get constructive criticism. How are they supposed to improve their work if no one comments anything other than, "Oh, that's cool."? Really, people get off of your thrones and help them out. Taking two minutes to post isn't hard.

(Please exscuse any spelling or gramatical errors, I wrote this with a Blood Sugar of 57)

  14. ...very much recently. My interest has been wavering recently; hopefully the new movie will change that. And speaking of which, I'm losing a lot of respect for the powerful ruler of a universe that has spawned eight years of Lego sets and three movies. I won't argue that "Click" is a cute name for a Scarabax beetle. But I don't want "cute" and "Mata Nui" connected in my mind. He was such an epic character; now he's running around with a pet beetle named "Click." C'mon, Lego. Please.

Ok, rant's over. I'll be checking here in case anybody PMs me, just so you know, I'm not gone yet! Just somewhat detached.

  17. It’s been some time since my last blog entry or even my last burst of activity on BZPower.

I may post this in S&T later once I’ve re-worked it into more a concrete theory and less of jumble of words my brain has spat out onto the blog post.

As a further development of my theory outlined in my previous blog post about the functions of different types of Matoran in the Matoran Universe, I outlined what I believed to be the function of the Bo-Matoran as a method of maintenance of the various flora made from organic Protodermis throughout the Mata-Nui robot.

The primary point of this theory is a look into the question: Why only flora?

We've been told by Greg and several references in the universe that the entirety of the matoran universe is comprised of various forms of Protodermis.

"Protodermis is the material which makes up the Matoran Universe and
    all
living things and objects inside it."

Now Matoran, like all other sapient species in the matoran universe are made up of a combination of mechanical and organic components. The mechanical components are comprised of pure solid protodermis whilst the organic components are comprised of what is reffered to as organic protodermis.

"Organic Protodermis is a type of Protodermis that makes up
    all the organic tissue
    in the Matoran Universe."

Organic tissue is not only found in the sapient species, but also is what makes up all of the Flora in the Matoran Universe.

"The plants of the Matoran universe are made
    entirely of Protodermis
, distinguishing themselves from plants of other worlds."

Toa of the Green are able to manipulate this Flora, tapping into the Protodermis which comprises the plant-life, manipulating and also creating it. Some of the Flora in the MU (such as Karzahni and Morbuzakh) even had varying degree's of sentience, making the only real difference between flora and fauna the presence of solid protodermis and shape of being. This creates an interesting question, if a plant entirely made up of organic protodermis can be sentient, then that form of organic protodermis must be capable of forming at least some variety of brain equivalent capable of higher thought and function, similar at least in composition to the organic parts of the brain that lies within a Toa.

With the above knowledge I see it as a reasonable thought process that if the Toa of the Green are able to control the organic protodermis that comprises the various forms of flora throughout the matoran universe including those that are sentient; they should be also control and manipulate the organic protodermis that lies within matoran or any of the other humanoid inhabitants of the MU.

As far as I know I don't believe we've had direct confirmation from Greg that a Toa of the Green can't do this. I believe that there are a few reasons which could plausibly explain why we have not seen such usage of the Green in the story-line thus-far whilst allowing for it's inclusion.

    1. Unethical behavior / Breaking the Toa Code. Toa are upright paragons of right and justice, manipulation someone's internal organs can quite easily be seen a fighting dirty or as unethical. This is the same reason why there were no elemental Toa of Acid, despite there being Bohrok of this element. Despite this being seen as unethical to use on enemies, I still believe this can work as a part of the range of powers that the Toa could utilize.
    2. No significant Toa of Green in the Lore. In the entirety of the BIONICLE storyline, we only ever encountered one Toa of the Green: A Toa from Lhikan's past team who died to an attack by the Frostelus. Also due to the Frostelus nature of being sentient Rahi, point 1 would aid in why we never saw him use this power.
    3. Experience required / Hard to control Power. The internal organics of a living humanoid integrated with machinery and programming would be incredibly complicated, it would take a lot of practice and finesse to do so and it may be something everyday Toa of the Green may not be able to accomplish.
    4. Too complicated to explain to children. This is fairly self-explanatory, in the same way that psionics did not have large story presence, the green is easier to explain as being simply plant life to children, they can easily understand a plant Toa, but explaining that the plant guy can also manipulated organic components of the Matoran? Not so much. Luckily the ending of the official story line removes this restriction.
    5. Possibly confusion with Life Powers. Toa of the Green were introduced during the 2006-2008 story line surrounding the Mask of Life, while the Mask of life doesn't explicitly manipulate organics in any way. It's manipulation of the "Life force" inside every living thing in the Matoran Universe could potentially cause some confusion with an element which could manipulated Flora and to a limited extent Fauna. However, Life is a very different "element" In that all of it's powers are in relation to "Life-Force" while the organic protodermis is simply another form of protodermis. A Toa of Iron, Psionics and the Green could create a being with organic, biomechanical and programmed components but the being would not have the "Life-Force" component analogous to a soul if you will. It would simply be a robot or a golem-like creation.

With these five reasons in mind, I don't believe that they necessarily mean that non-flora organic manipulation is off the table for Toa of the Green, I've got a few reasons why I believe this would be rather a neat addition to the canon.

    1. Interesting and more in depth power usage. Self explanatory really, it could have a lot of interesting applications and could be used both in and out of combat and give Teams a reason for taking a Toa of the Green to environments which do not have plants.
    2. Introducing a 'Healer' element. Aside from Gali Nuva in the 2003 Mask of Light movie, we have never really had the healer trope in a group of Toa, with the ability to create and manipulate the organic protodermis inside their allies. Toa of the Green could become healers for the group, repairing their damaged organics in the same way a Toa of Iron would mend armor. Gali's healing scene can be explained that the exposure to water was helping the organics that had been damaged in Tahu heal slowly with exposure to water. A Toa of the Green would have been able to heal him at a much greater rate. The Toa of Green's knowledge of poisons and toxins from various plants could aid in this role greatly.
    3. Making the most of an ambiguous name. Has Greg decided to name the element "Plant-life" or "Jungle" we wouldn't have this opportunity. The fact that's it's called "the Green" allows us to associate it not with just plants but all organic protodermis. This can easily be explained by having the raw form of organic protodermis take on a green color when channeled for creation of plants or healing.
    4. Possible explanation for lack of Toa of Green. The Makuta actively wiped out Toa of the most powerful elements that they saw as a threat to themselves. Magnetism, Iron, and Plasma were all hunted down. If the Makuta wished to hide their new lack of organic components from Toa in their continued masquerade, Toa of the Green would pose a problem.
    5. Completion of a Self-Maintaining MU. It's been stated before that the Matoran working is what keeps the Matoran universe working. In my previous blog post from 2010, I outlined the various matoran and the purposes that they fulfill in the robot. However there was one missing maintenance job as there was nothing responsible for organic protodermis in sapient beings.
If the Toa of the Green gain the ability to manipulate and repair the organics within humanoid lifeforms in the Matoran Universe, all aspects of lifeforms inside the MU are now self-relying and maintaining.
Toa of Iron can maintain and repair armor and solid protodermis in the mechanical components of beings.
Toa of Psionics can maintain and fix mental errors and programming malfunctions in the minds of beings.
Toa of The Green can maintain, and heal injuries and organic protodermis in the bodies of beings.

I've gather a few further thoughts and references on why the organic components of Matoran and Toa would need some form maintenance.

We were told in 2001 that the original Toa Mata had all of their organic components decayed due to their prolonged inactivity and hibernation and possibly the environmental factors associated with being floating in a tube for 1000 years. The Toa also lost their memories as an effect of this, leading me to conclude that the majority of their memories must have been stored in their organic protodermis components or the majority of their 'brain'.

The Mechanical components, made of solid protodermis must have included at least some form of rudimentary secondary brain for survival reactions such as putting themselves back together and basic motion and lower brain function. This would be a core part of Matoran/Toa base programming installed into their machinery.

I'd imagine this would be a similar to how the human body can react to pain before passing on a pain signal to the brain itself, allowing the body to operate on its own in a limited capacity. Similarly the matoran/Toa can operate on it's own until the organics are repaired as seen by the Toa Mata and Matoran hibernated in the spheres . I'd imagine that the Matoran in Karzahni in disrepair were also in a similar state but kept this way as it was stated that Karzahni "stripped them of their identities". This would have been achieved by removing the organics and thus memories and a little bit of reprogramming.

The Toa Mata not only lost all of their memories but also their training and skills, this shows that the organic components are vital for continuing functionality of Toa. The organic components healed on their own slowly, but it was years before any of them regained their memories.

The Metru-nui refugee's also lost their memories and required the pure Toa energy of six Toa simply to awaken them. Potentially, we could still have six Toa Metru running around if there had been a Toa of the Green amongst them.

As I said at the start, this theory is still a work in progress and I'd appreciate any feedback and criticism that you may have to offer.

    Thanks for reading.
