Spring: A Time Of Change

I know what you're all thinking. I've gone and lost my mind, right? Not at all. I had noticed a dip in the excitement level over at the Haven, and despite my best efforts to spruce the place up the customer base just never came back.   Maybe it was the massive Digimon battling it out in the streets outside the club, or maybe it was just the lack of anything interesting in the entires. Or...who knows...maybe this entire world is a figment of my imagination and I'm just talking to a bunch of

Lost: My Crazy Theory

Warning: The following post contains random discussion of Lost and may not make a lick of sense to anybody who doesn't follow the show. As such, I the author apologize in advance for any confusion brought on by viewing the following content. Okay, while in the midst of a heated debate on last night's episode of Lost, I randomly quipped about how the castaways just happened to crashland in the middle of a war between the Dharma Initive and the Others. Still joking, I went on to jest: "Until

77 Musou Warriors Can't Be Wrong

Big news for anybody who enjoys mowing through Chinese samurai or Japanese feudal warlords, as Koei has officially confirmed that Musou Orochi is coming stateside as Orochi Warriors! I've been a fan of the Warriors series since I played Dynasty Warriors 3 on my friends PS2. There's actually a Gundam Musou game on the PS3 which is supposedly the best iteration of the franchise to date. But since my getting a PS3 isn't in the cards for a while, I'm going to be enjoying the heck outta this new g

Pre-emptive Pop Quizzes

Out of the three courses I have this semester, the only one I find myself remotely interested in is my Database II course. There is, however, one thing that gets me about it.   We're given pop quizzes from time to time. And though I've got nothing against the practice, I find it a bit hard to swallow that he ususally gives the quizzes prior to going over the material in class. His argument is that it checks to see if you're keeping up in the readings. I would tend to disagree.   After four

Karaoke: The Final Frontier

No, I didn't record myself singing your favorite hits. In fact, that's the last thing I'd want to subject any of you to. In my car, I'm a rockstar...but anywhere else I keep my mouth shut.   It's one of those things where you sit there thinking "Ooh ooh...I could do this song, or this one!" And it seems like a great idea, but then there's that little voice in the back of your head that fears embarrasment. A few weeks ago that voice almost gave in, but was quickly silenced when I was unable

Another Year, Another Move

The big news for me out of Spring Break last week is that I've officially found and leased out a new apartment. Located about 10-15 minutes from work, as opposed to the current drive of two hours, my new place is a substantial upgrade.   For one, it has carpeting. But the big upgrade is the little walk-out patio/porch/balcony thing in my living room. Now I can step outside and get a breath of fresh Minnesota air without having to tramp through my complex and out the front door.   The big mo

One Of Those Days

I'm kinda in a foul mood today, mostly because I tried to sell a few games at Gamestop and was told that one of the games wasn't in good enough condition to buy back. Which is funny since not but 6 months ago it was sitting on the store shelf at another Gamestop. So apparently the condition they sold it to me in isn't good enough condition to sell to somebody else.   It's not like I'm "stuck" with the game. I got it as part of the buy 3 for 2 used game deal they occasionally do. It was MVP

More 20 Year Old Spoilers

I'm currently battling my way through the 6th Dungeon of the original Zelda. A few years ago I picked up the Zelda Collector's Disc, and have only now gotten around to playing it.   I have to say it's probably the hardest Zelda I've played in a while. The drop-rate is low to the point of frustration, especially when you only start with 3 hearts every time you die. There's no map to speak off for the overworld, though I've gotten used to the areas enough to sorta find my way around.   Compar

Spring Break

Though my break started Friday after work, today is the first day where I officially don't have to go to any classes. Though I don't appreciate it getting cut short by the DST change, I appreciate that its happening now instead of when I have a test or something the following Monday. I hate running on one less hour of sleep.   There are a ton of things I want to do over break, mostly involving getting preparred for my big move (again) when I graduate this May. This would include finding an a

Torhu Vs. Vista: Round 1

About a month ago, my dad's computer went kaput. Thankfully, it still had four months left on the warranty, and Best Buy sent it out to get repaired. A week ago, we found out that it was inoperable. Or rather, that it was more cost efficient for Best Buy to replace it than to repair it.   On the upside, we get the value of the computer put towards a new one. And $450 today buys you something a truckload better than it did 3 years ago. On the downside, every computer they make these days com

An Accidental Culinary Creation

My boss was kind enough to pick up dinner for us guys at the office today. The meal of choice today was a quick pickup of a burger and fries from a nearby coffee shop. I had to fly, so in my haste to get everybody their food I neglected to grab enough condiments to go around. Since that was supposed to have been my job, I left what I had brought and ran back over to get some ketchup and whatnot for myself.   In my haste, I neglected to realize that the shaker next to the salt and pepper was

It's A Great Time To Be A Gamer

I've only bought three actual Wii games since I picked up the console in November. And yet I've found myself playing on it everyday. This is because the Virtual Console is super awesome. I've got SMB, Kirby's Adventure, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64...and just recently added Donkey Kong Country.   And the best part is, there's still like 10 games I want to pick up. All of which are classics I just never got a chance to play. Games like Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, Contra III, and Gunstar Heroes. The

It's Cold In Here, And We May Die

As you may have heard by now, the Midwest got absolutely pounded over the last few days. Schools, government offices, and major roads are all closing down. People are digging their cars out of the snow, and its blowing around like you'd never believe.   But it's still a blast. For some reason. I was outside this evening for about a half-hour shoveling snow out from around my car. The "parking spot" next to me hadn't been plowed in a week or so, and looked about the same as any place else,

Don't Worry, I'm Still Bouncin'

T-Hybrid is currently preparring for a big code release. While he's scrambling to put the finishing touches in place, he's asked his guest blogger to fill in.   How's it all going? I would have liked to get a word in for the 100th entry, but T-Boss was pretty firm on putting out the Q/A thread. I had a few questions I would've liked to ask, mostly like when I'm gonna be expecting a raise. But since that doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon I'd best keep pluggin along on the entries.

100th Entry: Qa Session Go!

In the past, I've done topics on suggestions, and when I saw this over in Omi's Rush I couldn't help but think that it was a pretty sweet idea. So after getting his permission to borrow the idea I decided to go ahead and hold a Q/A session of my own in celebration of 100 entries.   I've also unvieled a new Blue-Vice image...which I'm thinking will work like a "header" for the most recent entry. If it all works according to plan. So go ahead and ask away, I'll answer what I can as best I can.

The Best $3 I Never Spent

Last Sunday, my friends and I went down to a local mexican restaurant. I had just eaten, and decided to come with just to hang out with everybody. As with most restaurants of this kind, you're given free chips and salsa while you ponder your order. So they brought them out, and I had some. I decided against getting anything to eat, and just asked for a water. My friends got stuff, including a bowl of cheese dip that comes with a "bottomless" basket of chips. So throughout the night I had so

Nothing > Wii: A Lesson In Logical Fallacies

As a peruser of gaming forums, I often read the following message in the sigs of many a gaming flamer.   "____ > Nothing > ____"   This is usually paired with something the person is a rabid fan of on the left and the item their bashing on the right. As funny as some think this is, and as prevalent as it has been of late (especially with all three Next-Gen consoles available)...I can't help but wonder why nobody's noticed the following yet.   Using the above comment actually bashes the

Mahri: Initial Reactions

Author's Note: The following entry contains discussion regarding the Toa Mahri's identities. These spoilers have been wrapped in appropriate tags where neccesary.   I've seen the leaked pics, so I have a better idea of what the Mahri are going to actually look like. However, having a chance to see them from multiple angles in the new news story has given me a chance to put things in perspective.   » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «First off, I'm thinking that the Mahri may n

Forget The Curtain, I'll Take 6

Bringing to a close the events of this week, I went out to Best Buy and picked up a copy of Final Fantasy VI on the GBA. I had recieved some coupons in the mail, and when I stopped in they only had VI (and only one copy). Having heard it was hard to find either game, I decided it'd be a good idea to get it while it was there. I get paid next week, which will help take some of the sting of the alternator costs. Until then, I can bury myself in the adventures of Terra et. al.   Thanks for the

5, 6, Or What's Behind The Curtain

I was just about ready to make a decision, and was set to hop in my car to pick up a copy...when an old friend paid me a visit.   I'm talking about Mr. My Car Won't Start. After a few unsuccessful attempts to turn the key, followed by the inability to get a jump from anybody, poor little T's Car was toed over to the shop and put up on the lift. The problem? Alternator's shot. Took the battery with it too. Thankfully I had just purchased the battery, so it was covered under warranty. But t

Final Fantasy: 5 Or 6?

A month or so ago was the release of Final Fantasy V on the Game Boy Advance, yesterday was the release of Final Fantasy VI. So to put it shortly, I can't make up my mind. I haven't played either, and both come with high recommendations from people I've talked to.   The job system in FFV sounds interesting, as the RPGs I've played thusfar have typically stuck with the traditional style of leveling and skill aquistion. However, FFVI is heralded as one of the best (in an almost dead heat with

Super Bowl Afterparty

I'm a Vikings fan. So when it came to last night's game, I was more a casual observer than a supporter of either team. I wouldn't have minded seeing Chicago win, even though it would mean having to put up with a year's worth of "NFL Champion Chicago Bears!" bragging from a diehard Chicagoean. But if I had been given my choice last night, I wouldn't have argued with the results I got.   Vikings fans miss Tony Dungy more and more with each passing day, and I was glad to finally see his coachin

Great Moments In Advertising Stupidity: Vol. 2

"But T," you'll say. "There was never a Volume 1!" And yes, that's very true. But I figured there's been so many instances of stupid advertising that I've left the first volume on the shelf, in honor of all those campaigns that have come before.   Today's topic comes hot on the heels of breaking news today. Boston officials were put on edge this afternoon when a number of small "devices" were found around the city. Working carefully, it was discovered that these devices were not active, an

Le Sigh

I've been part of many fandoms in my time, and through all of them I've seen the different stages. And though I'm pleased that Bionicle's been around long enough to hit this current stage, I'm a bit bothered by the frequency and intensity with which its come. Though that's to be expected with the size of this forum comparred to the others I've been to.   But to all those people out there who make the topics which are getting to be a weekly affair: No, Bionicle is not in a decline. No, Bionicl

An Irs Counter-punch

Well, things may have brightened up a bit around the Haven. I talked with my grandpa, who's a financial whiz (runs on that side of the family) about the problem I had over the weekend. Apparently there was more of a miscommunication between the me and the people I had purchased/sold stock through. They sent some info to me, apparently neglecting to make it clear that they weren't sending the rest.   So I had to track down a few forms (didn't know that there was such a thing as the Schedule D
