Harry Potter

In a few minutes I will be following a lead that says Columbia's Lerner bookstore is having a Harry Potter party, and since it's official, RA's will be there, which means we're allowed to be out past curfew. It's not curfew yet, so if it turns out that there isn't actually a party there, I can still come back.   On a completely unrelated note:     And since apparently Maj has no issues with "public" folders...   Click here for gallery   I'm quite happy that I managed to get shots of red du

I'm Evil >=)

So I'm in this very long e-mail conversation with a friend who's in a different summer program, and taking a Java programming course which as it turns out she doesn't really like. In the most recent e-mail she complained that it was getting to her head (having used "==" to equate two things), among other things.   Therefore, with a decent amount of knowledge myself, concerning Java (my dad taught me, if you don't remember) I typed my entire response in code.   I'm so evil   The reply, with so

Sliding Door Theory...

Mudd (the building in which the Gateway Computer lab is in [YES IT'S NAMED "Mudd" get over it >>]) has automatic sliding doors, but the "automatic' turns off at night and on weekends... and my ID isn't programmed into that particular door (it's programed into Gateway's door, but it's useless if I can't get into the building to get into the lab). I asked about it and was told that I'd just have to wait for someone to leave. Even the TA's, who are actual Columbia students and whatnot, can't

Entries Posted Early In The Day...

... seem to get more replies   Therefore I am posting this entry.   It's raining out. Kinda stinks.   It also stinks that B-Shelf and Maj have been spazzing out. Wonder if that'll affect the BBC contest voting.   Seen some nice entries, but maybe it's just me, seems like a somewhat low turnout. Eh... or maybe I just scanned the list rather quickly. Or maybe it's just that few entries seemed to stand out...   Anyway the point of this blog post is...   | | See previous two blog entries

$30

I cannot believe I just paid 30 bucks for a meal... that's enough money to last me an entire weekend, and Friday!   I was with a group of course (on my own, d'you think I'd spend more than five bucks on a meal? ) and it was a nice place, and the food was really great... Still, y'know... 30 bucks...   Not like I'm gonna go broke though, only two weeks left.   But anyway the car now has stripes (I forget if they were in the last post?) among other things. And a license plate. We'll go with the

Shiny!

(click the thumbnail)   So I figured out, in a general sense, raytracing... and I learned it all by myself except for the parts I didn't know! Haha naw I hadta get one of the TAs to show me, but I think I have it down now. So the car is shiny.   I also theoretically know how to add custom textures from Photoshop, but, uh... yeah, I tried, didn't quite work out. So STILL no racing stripes. I managed to get the stripes on SORT OF, but they sure as heck weren't pointing the right way. Nor were t

Zoom Zoom

Click here.   That was hard to make I'm still wondering how I'll do the windsheild... I forget if blinn allows transparency.   Yeah that's another thing. Where to the names for those kinds of rendering surfaces come from? "Anisotropic." "Blinn." "Lambert." "Phong." What?   But whatever. 3D is fun... =D   There are bottom details but they're positioned horribly... based on what I have, there's like no room for the driver XD. I'll figure it out.   I already copied and flipped the hood, but f

Fearless Animals

Back home a squirrel will run up a tree if you get within ten feet of it.   Today I QUITE LITERALLY fed a squirrel, OUT OF MY HAND. I mean, that crazy squirrel was bolder than the pigeons! I had to hold really still to get the pigeons to come close. But when the squirrel saw the peanut, it GRABBED IT OUT OF MY HAND. After it finished it was scratching at my leg for more!   I mean, it was behaving like a dog! o_O It looked like it was on its hind legs and "begging."   Very cute though. Never s

Fire (drill?)... In The Rain

Well I still dunno if it was a drill or what, when I asked a firefighter he said it was a "false alarm," but of all days it HAD to happen on the day there was a STORM. Ugh...   Luckily it wasn't coming down really hard when we got out but it was still definitely raining and not small enough to be considered drizzle yet. Man, though, I tell ya, loudest fire alarm I've ever heard. Right in my room, too. I'm typing the next chapter of Makuta Rehearsals and WHOOOOOOOOO! I was like, "AUGH!"   Lucki

Maya

Maya is really cool!   ...   >> IT'S A PROGRAM. 3D modeling program. Despite carrying an absurd $7000 price tag, it really is quite powerful. We've just started learning it, in class, and once you figure it out...   It's amazing how they did it...   And where they come up with the names for these tools. I mean, "loft"? When you're connecting two lines with a surface, why call it "loft"? What's that supposed to mean?   It's like how they assigned new meanings to common words when they

Augh!

Okay, I'm losing my MIND here.   1. dON'T USE cAPSLOCK! If you want to EMPHASIZE a word, all caps it. If you want to say, "HEY COME TAKE A LOOK AT THIS EVERYBODY!" caps it. If you're saying "THIS IS MY NEW ART TOPIC. WHAT DO YOU THINK." Do NOT use caps! All caps is ANNOYING.   2. dont we al hav som prgoram wit spal cakc? y cant u al a tlest tri 2 us spel chak? r wud it hrt 2 lern the rite wya 2 pel a wrod th ehrad way?   3. 1408

I don't usually watch scary movies since I'm a self-proclaimed coward. But being here has been all about doing something new.   So I watched 1408 and it scared the living daylights out of me, then cast a revive spell and scared them out again.   It was a good movie but as far as I'm concerned, I'm going to generally avoid the horror genre from now on. Not my cup of tea. Or blood, as the case may be.   OH YEAH almost forgot I saw the Mahri teaser at the theater. Pretty nice...   I managed to

Times Square

Guess where I went today? No no, seriously, you'll NEVER guess. Couldn't possibly. Nope.     [EDIT: well whadya know, I forgot it's past 12, so I should say what I did YESTERDAY. Whatever. Same thing. Not really...]   Well anyway I saw another movie today and went to the Ripley's museum and ate at a fancy sit-down place and against my better instincts spent in one day more than what I spent all of this week. But it was really fun.   Times Square at night. Coolest. Place. In. New. York.

I Feel Like I Should Be Adding An Entry...

... but honestly today was less interesting than usual for a day in NYC...   Well, BZP isn't working for me, like that's new. But I so wanna reply to that comment Greg (AdioBam) posted in my profile... But alas I can't... nor can I add friends, quick edit, manage blog entries, content blocks, or anything.   Today in class we saw a dissassembled iPod and learned how they're made... well, basic anatomy of one in any case.   I ate a very expensive sandwich today...   Anything else interesting?

More Than Meets The Eye

So...   Transformers...   ...   Was AWESOME.   I saw it yesterday. =D   I mean, just expect really good action scenes because that's the point of this kind of movie. Many-layered characters and complex plot? Not really. Just a lot of explosions. And some pretty funny lines.   When Optimus Prime first appeared, everyone in the theater started cheering.   The CGI was truly incredible. I mean, I can't imagine how they got all those moving parts to work together... even the little guy was w

More New York

Guess what I did today? I had lunch at the restaurant from Seinfeld.   Now where else can ya do that? Food was pretty good too.   Yesterday I was going to the bathroom... and when I tried to close the stall door... it fell off. Not only is that completely messed up, but the thing hit me right in the ear! Gah. Eventually I got it back on its hinges, with the help of someone else who was in there, but man, that thing HURT.   I finished The Amber Spyglass today. Rather sad ending... *sigh* I gue

New York, New York

Wow. What a city.   I spent essentially from after dinner (7:15) to now (about 9, who knows when I'll finish typing this) walking the streets of New York.   Not any kind of complicated route (I'd get lost) but you really can just feel the flavor of the city... I spent some time sketching people who were playing basketball and soccer, and on the ones with a bit more detail to them... well, you just feel the attitude of New York. It's all so diverse. You see people of so many kinds... seniors in

Huius Collegii Olim Regalis Nunc Columbiae Dicti

Well, I just got settled in my dorm at Columbia University for the summer program, and my parents and sister just left.   I'm on my dad's laptop, and there is a wireless internet connection, not that strong though, and it's kinda slow, and the screen is miniscule compared to my huge freakin' LCD that I"m used to, and the keyboard is awkward...   But it'll do.   When my parents and sister left, I bent down and gave my sister a hug... and, well, after a few seconds I realized she wasn't letting

Birthday Of The Universe

According to Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (yes it's a long title) by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, the universe began on October 21.   Which is my birthday!   Wow that's cool. ^^   Of course it's a work of comedic fiction, but still.

Summer Assignments

To the teacher who, some time in the past, came up with the notion of "summer assignments"...   I hate you. *shakes fist*   *sigh*   In other news, I put up another chapter of Makuta Rehearsals and I'm ACTUALLY WRITING another chapter of Innovation, that long-ago epic I stopped at 3 chapters four months ago.   And on Saturday I'm updating the Lyg comic. =D

Soaked

And happy.   Today was SO HOT and because they were working on our basement, and there's sawdust and stuff everywhere, I couldn't turn on the air conditioning because it would blow the dust all through the house.   Very hard to concentrate today. SO. HOT.   But then when my parents came home me and my sister went out onto the deck, with the garden hose, and... well...   Now I'm soaked through. And happy. =D   She was evil though. Completely betrayed me. Got me right in the chest with that h

You Have Got To Be Kidding Me

"Rub N Color"   WHAAAAT!? No no no no NO! THE POINT OF COLORING IN PICTURES IS TO PICK YOUR OWN COLORS AND COLOR IT YOUR OWN WAY! I MEAN, WHAT IN THE-- THAT COMPLETELY-- AUGH!   Anybody seen those commercials for this "Rub N Color" thing? Just rub, and color! No mess! Rub your finger on these PRE-COLORED images and whatever color the company put in MAGICALLY APPEARS!   That RUINS the whole POINT of coloring! Not only is coloring one of those activities that help kids develop coordination and
