Thank You Card For My Teacher...

Thought I'd share this 'cuz I liked how it turned out.   I asked my Chemistry teacher from last year to write me a college recommendation letter, and she did, so I made a lil' holidays/thank you card for her.     Anybody who's taken Chemistry and really screwed up on a titration will get this joke.   (this includes me)   (I managed to salvage the lab, though)

Random New Stuff

Just to get it out of the way, chapter 3 of 52-pickup. In terms of my buffer zone, I've written up to partway through chapter 6, so I should be in good shape. Chapter 3 is probably my favorite chapter so far, though.   I'm going to visit my aunt over Christmas. Gonna be a long drive. My dad's bringing his laptop; hopefully that means I can work on the story some more. Would sure help pass the time.   Funny story, we have to write this report on a movie we watched in Global Studies class, right

Stupid Commercials

Anyone ever see that cell phone commercial? Sprint, I think. You know, the whole "Haha our competitors don't have as wide a range of coverage as us, haha" gig.   Where there's this guy at a construction site thing, right? And then his lolbluescreenclone comes on and he's like, "Hi, this is Generic Name Joe's phone here! Since he's not on Sprint, he didn't get the call to say that the safety zone has been moved from [arbitrary length] to [arbitrary, much longer length]. Blah blah blah, insert su

Snow

Snow.   SNOOOOOW.   Snow.   Snow!   !wonS   So anyway it's snowing out.   Also, I've posted chapter 2 of 52-pickup. Updates won't normally be this frequent, though.   Snow!

Deferred.   Well, not bad. It said a lot of people who get deferred to get in.

It's Up

Click the banner (or this link. It's really up to you)   In case you haven't been reading this blog, 52-pickup is a comedy I've been writing, and a project I've been pretty excited about.   The chapter up right now is one I already posted in this blog, so nothing new so far... depending on how quickly I can work on chapter 5, I might put chapter 2 up during the week. I do want to stay ahead, though. It's always dangerous when what I've posted has caught up with what I've done.   Well, I hope

Warm Pear Juice

Nothing better for a cough/sore throat.   Hot, right now, actually, so I have to drink it slowly. It's so good though. And soothing.   This also might be the first time in a very long time I want the weekend to be over quickly; or rather Monday to come sooner. Waiting on those results... ahhh, the suspense...

Go For It

So it looks like I didn't make the next round of the AC. Eh, had fun making my entry, and that's what counts.   So the above is the preview banner I've got in my sig now. You'll notice the rows of little squiggly pixel shapes.   Here they are, larger, and without the faint background text.   Go for it. It should be relatively easy.

The 300 Word Rule

I suppose back when I first started writing MR it was actually of concern to me, but nowadays I find it hard to imagine that this could pose a problem to anyone. I find it hard staying under two thousand words for a chapter of a comedy. It just doesn't feel like enough room to tell the story segment fully. At this point, checking the word count is not, "Is it long enough?" it's, "Is it too long already?"   I dunno, just my thoughts on it... 'cuz I'll be writing, and I'll be like, "Okay, there's

Robert

My sister made him.   He's awesome.   (those are his arms sticking up in the air. It might also be better if you imagine the big orange piece as being his mouth)   Oh, and while I'm blagging anyway, here's an excerpt from 52, chapter 3. Spoiler'd to save space. The context should explain itself. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «“Let this be a reminder to you!” he shouted, when he was already several stories off the ground. “The Toa are still here! And we won’t be giving up

52-pickup: Chapter 1

Click here, first chapter, .doc format.   I've finished chapter 2, started chapter 3, but I wanted to get some feedback on what I got so far. So I copied my text for chapter 1, converted the BBCode tags to actual italics, neatened it up a bit, and uploaded it.   Once again, this is set after the events at the end of this year's storyline. Hopefully nothing major happens from now on to contradict my premise and screw me up.   I'm afraid it's a bit of a slow start; I hope to pick up the pace in

Playing A Prank On The Future

I wonder if some of those ancient authors and poets thought to themselves, "What I'm writing will probably one day be considered a great work of classical literature. Why don't I invent my own word and use it exactly once in an ambiguous context, just to annoy the linguists once my language is dead?"   And if you're a mathematician, if you ever notice some interesting anomaly of numbers that seems to hold true for every set of arguments you test it on, don't bother proving it, especially if you

Relief!

My last application was mailed yesterday, tomorrow I turn in my last teacher recommendation thingy, and I'm free!   To celebrate, yesterday I (finally) opened my birthday present (yes, I know, more than a month late) from my parents. UCS TIE Advanced, awwww yeeeeah. Took me like four hours but it was lots of fun. The thing is huge. HUGE. And there's also a part that IMO was rather poorly designed because if you shake it too much part of the stand pokes through and the chair in the cockpit falls

... Wait, What?

So I've got this Latin worksheet for homework and there's this one question, "Copy out and give line numbers for all the words related to snakes or snake imagery in this passage."   ... what? Uh, well, aside from the fact that the entirety of lines 203-215ish are describing these two snakes... uh... I mean, what are they looking for?   Obviously "angues," "serpens," and "dracones" since those words literally mean "snake" or "serpent," but what else? Do they want me to mention the "immensa volu

Don't Everybody Get Too Excited

While I really appreciate all the encouragement, I really haven't posted a single chapter, or even an excerpt, of 52-Pickup yet, and I don't want to get everyone's hopes up and all just based on my goal of what I intend to do.   I'm going for something pretty ambitious and I think I have some good ideas but I really don't want to disappoint anyone. Reading over it so far, while I'm satisfied with what I have and it provides a good setup for what I have planned, it's not exactly the funniest o

Some Updates

52-Pickup will make fun of the fandom, among other things. Nothing is sacred except politics, religion, and the word filter.   It's going to be set on Metru-Nui after the final events of this year's storyline (would I have to spoiler this? Whatever).   I've finished chapter 1 (2300~ words) and I'm partway through chapter 2 (900). Got one more scene planned for this chapter, after I finish the current one. Chapter 3 will be exciting.   I'm also nearing completion with my last(!) college app. O

The Parade

Well, I was going to just sit there all morning and watch but my sister didn't want to watch so she started dragging me upstairs to play with her (since both my parents were busy).   So I start to leave just as the Foster's float pulls in and they start their song right when I'm at the foot of the stairs and halfway up the stairs all of a sudden! I hear the opening strains of something very familiar.   I'm like, "Wait did they change the channel? Why is 'Never Gonna Give You Up' on TV anyway t

So...

So you know that topic in GD where people are arguing if the Comedies forum is going (or has already gone) down the tubes?   That, among many other things, has got me thinking.   It's that that's made me think I'm going to write a comedy.   It's the many other things that provide the content.   I don't plan on posting even the first chapter until a significant amount is done. I know where I'm headed, what story I want to tell, and roughly how I'm going to do it. There's going to be an ending

Somebody Bring Me Up To Date!

As of the end of the year 2008 in the Bionicle storyline:   -Who's alive and who's dead (and, if you can spare the time, briefly how they died) and who's likely to be dying sometime soon? -Who are the big players and what do they intend? -Where do we stand in general?   Not asking for an essay. Just want to be up to speed.
