Just got back from a beer-tasting session. I went with my dad and brother-in-law (who'd already been there and was already rather groggy). The guy made his own home-brewed beer, usually only for friends and family, but as it was Old Crafts Weekend, he opened his home to the public. He built his own brewing installation in his garage (or carhole, as Moe calls it) and everything.
He names his beers after famous 'icons' from Temse's (my home town) past: we've got a statue on the quay depicting f
I'm back from camp. We had a bit of a rain problem, but it all worked out well, we and the kids all had fun. I'll give you all a full account when Kora sends me the pictures.
Too bad I didn't get third place in the Epics Contest, but after all, only that particular chapter was judged, so the rest of the epic did little to reflect on the chapter itself. Props to T for winning, though.
As for the sandbox from the title: we went camping in Limburg, which is Belgium's sandiest province. I sw
Leaving tomorrow, going camping, gone till the 18th, don't burn down anything while I'm gone, nor break anything, for more information read rest of blog, totally way past 2 AM and not enough time for a decent sleepingperiodsogottodashbyeseeyoualllater!
*zips back*
Oh, and: "Arr!"
*gone*
I mistakenly assumed the deadline for the Epics Contest was 11:59 AM... You can understand my frustration upon receiving this message over and over again for hours on end. Luckily, upon discovering the deadline was 11:59 PM, I was overjoyed at my own mistake. But what epic had the honour of receiving this new chapter?
Bah, I've only got one on-going epic anyway.
Tiki's Journey has been updated with a new chapter. If you're a fan, go thank HH and her Epics Contest for nudging me enough to a
As mentioned, I'll be gone on a quest to hunt down Lord Survurlode. Actually, I'm just going camping with the Scouts, but quests are cooler.
I'll be gone from the 10th to the 18th, but if you think the Comedies Islets will fall to infernal chaos and disorder while I'm gone, fear not: Cpt. Than will be perusing our secondary vessel, the Verdant Terror, to patrol and safeguard the Islets, cleanse the harbours and coastal towns, and judge those who've been caught red-handed by his Thanakh, Vahk
Yarr, me hearties! Terday I speak to those of ye who've got the wits, the brawn and the val'r to ship wiv us and embark on a truly terrifying voyage, a quest tha' will shivver yer timbers lest ye be cut of the toughest o' woods.
So enlist now, all ye snipers, gunners, harpooners, swashbucklers, freebooters an' privateers. Soon the Limegreen Scourge will set sail to hunt down that Nemesis of Old, that wicked scum o' the Internets, Evil Lord Survurlode!
Rumour has it he's been a'hidin' o
We got together today to make some final preparations for our Scouting Camp. Our group is the youngest, consisting of 6- and 7-year-old boys and girl scouts.
We gathered most of the stuff we'll need to load onto the municipality's truck, mostly stuff to just play with. We also made the camp sign, which is a large fibre-wood board on which we painted a camp theme-related image, along with the title of the camp and our group name.
The theme for the camp is... I'm almost afraid to admit it: pir
First off, thank you all for the supporting comments in the previous entry.
I dug up some old records to take my mind off of things, and came across a compilation CD with a few of my favourite Black Sabbath songs on it. As can be seen from the title, Fairies Wear Boots is one of them. Others include Paranoid, Ironman, A National Acrobat, Killing Yourself to Live and Symptom of the Universe.
My all-time favourite would still be Sabbra Cadabra, though. Cheers me up every time.
Feel so goo
Man, this doesn't get any easier. Some of you already know this, but I just have to get it off my chest. Blog therapy or something, I guess. You may not have noticed any of this from my behaviour online, but I'm still in shock about it.
Anyway, this is pretty hard to talk about, but they say shared sorrow is lessened sorrow (at least that's what we say in Dutch), so I'm doing just that.
Last Sunday I received a phone call. It appeared that one of the 7-year-olds from our Scouting outfit fe
I didn't talk about this yesterday because of the accident, but as I mentioned in the previous entry, I went to Antwerp with a friend.
We were originally planning to pick up some clothes, but as it's Sales Season, all the stores are targeting female customers. Hence, very little on sale for the gents, and nothing to our taste. I'll probably get some clothes in a neighbouring town next week.
We did go to Super Dragon Toys, which is actually more of an anime and manga shop than a toy store.
I'm a little shaken right now. I had a car accident today, and as you can think, it's a shocking experience.
I'd taken my mother's car for a drive to Antwerp, along with a friend of mine. On our way back, someone who had parked his car on our side of the road opened his door without looking in the rearview mirror. As you can imagine, I hit the darned car door pretty much head on, so the thing went flying and the front and side of my car is pretty banged up right now. Because of the warm weath
New side banners for the categories, though they might still change.
Got a few new art ideas today - I still can't dispense further information about it, only that I need to finish it by August 1st. Perhaps that's enough for you to figure it out.
The Limegreen Scourge is tied up in the harbour, bo'sun ToM is on guard, Scurvy McSmeag is polishing his guns, the Vahki have been loosed and I'm off to the pub.
I just got back from the library, and I've got a few interesting books to read for the coming weeks. As well as a new BioLog category, so I need to get a new banner installed, too.
Raymond E. Feist's Krondor: The Betrayal (Riftwar Legacy trilogy). Feist is one of the few male fantasy authors whose work I can really get into. I've finished the Riftwar series, which I found to be amazingly interesting. Ever since I read Magician, I've been spell-bound by these stories. I was actually looking fo
... one of the most fun themes ever!
That's right, it's going to be fun, I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. Don't disappoint me.
EDIT: dang, someone took revenge for my teasing. Bummer, my rating went down.
Did you ever think there would ever be a black metal band with a parrot on vocals? Probably not. You'd think: "That would be awesome! Hilarious!"
Well, it is awesome and hilarious. Some nutty guys actually did just that:
The band is not a serious project or anything (just look at the album title), it's just something they did for fun. The avain vocalist's owner is a big black metal fan, so the parrot picked up the sound of the voices and produces it every time it hears a metal riff.
I
Yesterday evening I went to have our Scouting camp certificiate approved and signed by the District Chief. There were a bunch of other troop leaders, so afterwards we went to our Scouting grounds and built a little campfire. It had been ages since we'd done this: it used to be a Summer tradition, we'd do this at least once a week, but it's really declined since then. In any case, it was fun to sit around the fire while the sky darkened (and lightened again), talking, laughing, having a few brews
.Hack//LIMINALITY is the 4-part OVA movie included with the .Hack games, and tells the story of a group of people trying to uncover the truth behind the comas induced by The World.
This movie is actually quite different from .Hack//SIGN, which tells the events leading up to the storyline of the games. Whereas scenes outside The World (i.e. in real life) are soundless and mostly black and white in SIGN, LIMINALITY shows none of the events inside The World. The backgrounds and characters are mo
As most of you will know, I've been part of the BZPower Staff for quite a while now. Close to three years, I think, though it's not nearly as long as the senior staff members.
The Staff Page may mention that I've been a Staff Member since April 2003, but you should know that I took a six-month break once. I don't quite remember the specific reasons behind it, only that I was too busy at the time to fulfill my captain's duties. It was probably a combination of summer playground work and Scouti
You know, there's so much you can do with the layout of these blogs, yet so little at the same time.
The first adaptation was to add a border with ship-related images, which I think worked out quite well. The problem is that every content block needs a title, which reduces the graphic impact a bit.
I was actually looking for some simple drawings, but I didn't find that many, so I settled for photographs instead.
Too bad the background, header and colours aren't customizable. Despite the
Well, I just finished watching the last episodes of .Hack//SIGN, and was quite pleased. For such a slow-paced show (which was quite refreshing), the finale was a real rollercoaster. What's even more magnificent is the fact that the soul and deeper meanings in the storyline remained throughout these action-packed episodes. Simply amazing. The epilogue episode Unison was especially nice, though I had to read up on the storyline of the .Hack games, as I haven't played any of them. The end of the ep
I've had some different constructions I've wanted to tackle for ages, but even when I get the chance to MOC, it's usually during a contest. And even then I often lack time to properly finish the darned things.
I still want to make a unicorn and a griffin, HOMM V style. Examples: unicorn and griffin. Unfortunately, I'm not up to tackling those yet, as my animal MOCing skills are still at a low level.
I'll probably do a few Neo Toa first. I usually try to build Neo Toa anyway, but they tend to
Time to talk about one of my other favourite anime series, Naruto. Or rather, why I'm still watching it.
Ever since the first episode, I was completely hooked. Nifty attacks, a constant stream of new and interesting characters, humour, suspense, tension, great art, excellent episode scripts... The series had it all.
"Had, you say?"
I did. The Naruto manga was so wildly popular in Japan, that the animated series followed soon after. Unfortunately, after the showdown of the Sasuke versus Na
