She never did lame puns & the other toa weren't allowed to be funny. The only funny moment in the animation was Kopaka slipping & even then, he didn't really suffer any misfortune or injure himself, so it wasn't funny.
So if the Barakki have been imprisoned in the pit & you mentioned Metru Nui, does that mean the comic is set before the Matoran Civil War? Also, I'd suggest going to the pink village to ask around about rumors of the Makuta & shops you can visit.
