  1. I'm not sure about that Europe statistic. For example I live in the UK. I went to Oxford recently. And I checked what is probably the best place to buy lego there. At said store there was nearly a full shelf of 2015 bionicle sets (and this was in January). Only a couple of skull sets and protectors seemed to have been bought. It could have been left over stock but this was after Christmas. Not to mention Argos (a very large retailer around here) stock only select sets and they're all online exclusive. I've also found other stores stocking only certain sets. A big toy store was recently opened in my town so I might look in there some time to see what the stock situation is like.

  2. Well if they did do that then I imagine the story wouldn't have become as complicated as it did. Chances are they would just find new locations on the island and maybe have a new team of toa to try and keep things interesting. Though at the end of the day they would have probably experienced a loss of profits for the theme quite quickly (as the theme wouldn't have been as engaging). Thus leading to an earlier end.

  3. The reason I imagine people are getting so hostile is partly because of the romours surrounding the end of G2. For clarification the romours supposedly came from a legit source. Someone claimed to have talked with someone who had connections with the Lego group and they supposedly said that bionicle wasn't selling too well at the moment. Although I would like to remind people that I don't believe the person claiming this provided any evidence that they had this discussion. So it should be taken with a huge grain of salt. With that out the way assuming this source can be trusted this does present a real possibility that next year will be the last. This will cause a lot of the people who don't like G2 to feel validated and hence become more vocal. It also doesn't help that the summer wave has got a very mixed reaction which will further add to negativity. Simply put I think it's just different things happening at the same time and it'll blow over.

  4. Well if that's the case then I think that's the worst way they could have handled this. A high school comedy, are they serious? Because as we all know people will want to go see a ninjago movie for a high school comedy. I mean whilst I don't really care for ninjago there is plenty of material to make a film. It may not have been the most original film but it would have been better then a high school comedy.

I was thinking a more legend of Zelda type game. You go around various areas fighting monsters and such. And you get upgrades by finding the golden masks.

A Zelda-type action-adventure game could be an interesting fit for Bionicle. Generally the games I most enjoy playing skew towards adventure games, and they tend to be a good way to both tell a story and showcase a world and its cast of characters. But Bionicle tends to be a very action-oriented series, both in terms of the Toa (powerful action heroes) and the sets (which have action features that generally represent combat moves). So I think an action/adventure game is perhaps the most natural fit for the series. It would be a good balance between the adventure-style gameplay of the Mata Nui Online Game and the more action-oriented gameplay of a lot games that focus on the Toa.

There are a lot of Zelda-ish elements to the Bionicle story, particularly the Bionicle G2 sets and story. For instance, the frequent use of temples as settings, the motif of collecting and using masks, and enemies you defeat by hitting specific weak points. Skull Spiders and Skull Warriors even sort of resemble Skulltulas and Stalfos.

One matter that might complicate things is that the Zelda games tend to be fairly solitary (just Link and a "sidekick" or a few interchangeable Link clones), whereas the Bionicle story tends to involve a LOT of teamwork. And this is something that no Bionicle games other than the Mata Nui Online Game and Maze of Shadows have ever really managed to reflect. Almost invariably, past Bionicle games that let you play as a Toa at all have you play out solo quests featuring an individual Toa. You might switch from one Toa to another in between levels, but that's about the extent of it.

This is likewise an issue with many action RPGs like Skyrim and Mass Effect, which only feature one "player character", and any teammates you have are computer controlled. Conversely, many of the LEGO games (ironically, not including Bionicle Heroes) do let you play most levels using multiple characters with discrete abilities. You only can control one character's actions at a time, but you can switch which character you control and which the AI controls, unlike some action RPGs like Skyrim and Mass Effect where you only control one player character and have more limited control of your teammates. LEGO Marvel's Avengers even lets you do special moves by teaming up two characters. So maybe a Bionicle action/adventure game could borrow a bit from that formula?

Actually if they were able to get a legend of Zelda style game with characters you can switch between that would be pretty innovative. Could actually get some attention from the industry. Though to be fair I doubt Lego would go through with it. They seem pretty determined to stick to the TT games formula.

  6. Seeing as next year is the final battle I imagine that means we'll see less sets then this year (as seen with ninjago and legends if Chima). I could be wrong as I remember HF getting a ton of sets in it's last year. I'm thinking they might ditch the small sets for a team of anti-toa. Yeah I think what we're gonna see 14-15 new sets. 2 forms of Makuta, toa, anti-toa, and Takanuva type set.

Where's the love and heart that we saw in the original trilogy? Will the show get better?

Isn't that a bit harsh? I mean sure it's not that good but I don't see how they weren't trying. The animation was really good and there were times when the toa's personalities were really shown off. And besides the originals aren't that great in hindsight. Don't get me wrong they were alright but they had a lot of problems. And besides they had to split two seperate 20 minute episodes into a story that tells of how six characters go through a challenge to get a mask (whilst having to give time to Umarak and setting up the plot) and go through a maze that also leads to another gold mask. That's not an easy task to do.

I only asked, because that seems to be many peoples consensus over here on BZPower. Thats it's quite dissapponting. However, my actual question, from me (not that the first part wasn't from me), was the second question I wrote which was "Will the show get better?" I admit, I came off as a bit harsh, but, frankly, others came off even harsher than me. At least for me JtO wasn't a total cringefest as it was for many others.

But, my questions still stands. Will it get better?

Fair enough. Although I doubt you're gonna get an answer to that as writers don't tend to directly answer to criticism.

  9. Well I finally got around to watching it. My overall feelings are... "meh". Alright I liked the prologue a lot. Solely because of how much I feel it matched the tone of G1 very well (seriously all they needed was a "gathered friends" line and it would have been perfect). The actual series though is.... better then HF, but still not good... although it's not really bad either. Well the animation and art style (as many have stated) is really good. It gives that feeling of being told a legend from an old book. The voice acting is another mixed bag. I like the voice of Lewa, Onua, and Tahu, and sort of Pohatu. Kopaka has the deepness of the voice I look for in him, but he doesn't have the sternness of it. And Gali just sounds way too young in comparison to how I always saw her. I like Pohatu's voice in the sense it matches his old personality of being easy-going and friendly. But it does not match the new one they gave him. It's not serious at all. In fact that's another thing, the personalities. I do not like the fact Kopaka is depicted as somewhat jokey. That's not him. He's supposed to be a cold loner type character who takes what he does very seriously. Lewa also seems a little too much like Matau and doesn't seem to give off the sarcasm he was supposed to have. The other characters are (for the most part) alright. They seem to posses the traits they were supposed to have (although we don't really see much of them). I'm also glad they didn't make it another "ode to Tahu".

They also do seem to have made it more light-hearted. Which does sorta balance with the more serious elements but at times feels out of place. The story is very basic to say the least. Find golden mask. That's really all there was to it. When they tried to make the characters more complex it often times comes out of nowhere. Overall it's watchable if you just take it for what it is. I will give the team credit though. They were clearly trying with this. You can tell they wanted to make it the best they could but I imagine due to the limited time frame they had to release it, and possible executive meddling, it just brings it down from what it could be. I'll probably make a more in-depth video review of it some time.

The only themes that stand a chance of a reboot are big bang themes.

I wouldn't say that. Space Police has been brought back twice, and Pirates and Castle are regularly refreshed.

I'm not sure if you can really count those as reboots (at least in terms of how the word is used nowadays). If you really sit down and compare the space police themes you'll they have very little in common with the more recent version of it (such as the aliens and just overall design). And pirates and castle are literally just themes. They don't really have stories and tend to be based in the default medieval and pirate fantasy.

  11. Hey I noticed a pattern when it comes to the little mini villains that come with the winter sets. They're always based on the faces of the summer wave villains. The skull spiders have obviously got the skeleton look, and the shadow traps have the same kind of mouth and function as this year's villains.

    I'm a bit disappointed.

BIONICLE was not one of the five best-selling themes. :(

It seems more and more likely that it's gonna get cancelled in 2017.  :crying:

It's not surprising that Bionicle is not in the top 5, since marketing for it has been minimal, to say the least. From the start it was clear that LEGO wasn't pushing G2 to be their #1 theme, unlike G1 back in 2001, when Bionicle was all over the place. That still doesn't mean it's not successful though, and we can't make any conclusions on whether it'll continue past 2017 or not.

Although it does mean we can safely say that it won't last as long as G1. I believe G2 will last 5 years personally.
