  1. That question was already answered, in the worst possible way. To quote Greg, they were "a glitch."

    nintendo labo

To be fair, the kits come with a cartridge too. That's undoubtedly where most of the price tag is going.
  3. From a post Greg made years back. It was lost when the archives were hacked. I believe it may have been the same post where Greg outlined just exactly how much of the Bionicle storyline had been planned from the beginning. I thought so too, but when I examined the text of that topic I archived years ago, it doesn't appear there. I can confirm from memory though that Greg did reveal the Great Being-plan at some point. It might've been in that topic actually, but I just happen to have the first few questions by fans archived, so I may have missed it. Wow, I thought that topic was lost for good! Thank you so much for saving this very important piece of Bionicle history! Reading it again, the most interesting thing about is how Greg is completely off the mark comparing Bionicle to Star Wars. If anything, Star Wars is the exact opposite of Bionicle, in that basically everything (including all the big twists like Darth Vader's true nature) was made up along the way.
  4. From a post Greg made years back. It was lost when the archives were hacked. I believe it may have been the same post where Greg outlined just exactly how much of the Bionicle storyline had been planned from the beginning. Greg explained a long time ago that most of the storyline for the first eight years had been planned out in advance in the story bible. This included everything from the three year journey to save Mata Nui's life, to Makuta being a species. I suppose its possible that some of the very early concept art was drawn with the idea of Mata Nui not having a whole universe inside him, but that clearly didn't last long once the story team solidified their plans for a multi-year franchise.
  5. 100% factually incorrect. Mata Nui being a giant robot and containing an entire universe which the Matoran originated from was planned from the very beginning. In fact, the contingency plan was for the giant robot to rise out from underneath the island at the end of the very first year, in the case that the theme did not do well. However, the theme was a massive success, so they continued with their original plan, which encompassed the Mata Nui, Metru Nui, and Ignition arcs - which were ALL roughly sketched out long before the theme was officially released. Literally the only arc that wasn't planned from the beginning was Bara Magna - the original plan for the years following Ignition involved "finding the Great Beings."
  6. I like the idea of Makuta having multiple alternate modes, to reflect that he's a shapeshifter. He could be a take on the Megatron toy from Robots In Disguise (the original cartoon, not the reboot), which among its modes had those of bat, giant dragon and a hand. All of those are very fitting for Makuta, IMO.
  7. Canonically, Matoran have always been called Matoran, even on the island. I realize the story team originally went with the explanation that the Tohunga renamed themselves Matoran after being rebuilt, but that only lasted for about a year or so before they retconned the word Tohunga out of canon entirely. Conversely, if the Maori lawsuit hadn't happened, it's likely that they would have been canonically always called Tohunga.
  8. You need Kopeke and Hahli, tool. And Tamaru, but sadly that's impossible without bringing out the teal and lime paint.
  9. I really want Lego to get the entire Nintendo license. There's so much potential beyond just Mario - I could easily see a theme running for at least as long as Minecraft has, especially now that Nintendo themselves are back on their feet with the massively successful Switch console.
  10. Something I noticed is that Lego dumps a bunch more minifigs into sets than they used to, possibly precisely to jack up the price. Like, what is Lando doing in the A-Wing? Pushing its price up to $40 is what. Meanwhile, the most expensive sets in the line barely have more figures. A grand total of five each in the Resistance Bomber, First Order Walker and Star Destroyer. I realize this has kinda been a problem with the line for ages, and has only gotten worse as they've shifted away from the Prequel era (which allowed TLG to inflate the figure counts with battle droids). But really, what is stopping them from including a couple more stormtroopers with the walker, or a few more personel with the star destroyer? Certainly not the design budget - they already have every single mold and printing created. And I doubt the production budget is going to suffer much either, when they're already mass producing these things by the millions overseas.
  11. Gadunka is another so bad it's good name. It's no wonder he became a meme. All the Barraki were seemingly destined to be turned into their spirit animal, with the possible exception of Pridak (though that could be another Chirox case, where it's based off a scientific classification instead. Can anyone help me out with this?)
  12. I proposed years ago that Onua should have been a Toa of Metal, and Pohatu a Toa of Earth. However, that was only due to the story issues with stone and earth being so similar as elements. My proposed solution wouldn't have done a thing to fix the problem with certain colors selling worse than others. So here's a better idea: Onua could still be a Toa of Earth, but Purple would be his primary color, with black as his secondary. Pohatu would be the Toa of Metal, and have a primary color of Yellow, with dark grey as his secondary. Also, to help this thematically, Po-Koro would be depicted as the most technologically advanced village in the story, instead of Onu-Koro. Of course, in order for this to work and not cause any storyline issues later on, the Toa's elemental powers would have to remain tied to their weapons for the whole duration of the line. Because if the later retcon of "Toa Power" still happened, it would mean that Pohatu would become the most powerful Toa by a wide margin.
  13. That was made by Lewa11, the same guy responsible for "Quest of the Toa," the first big attempt at a full length CGI Bionicle Fan film. I still had that QA video on my hard drive, by the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjRI2b19ltg&feature=youtu.be (It's unlisted, so hope you can all keep a secret. I also have a number of animation tests and the original teaser trailer for Quest of the Toa)
  14. You can always choose to not buy full-price games that feature pay-to-win systems, you know.
  15. They were boring the moment I saw them in the Lego Magazine, and this was coming from a kid who didn't start collecting Bionicle sets until the fourth year.
  16. Man, I had forgotten how far the Story Team had to stretch the idea of "42 unique Kraata powers." You have Chain Lightning and Electricity, heat vision and laser vision, sonics and power scream, and illusion and shapeshifting. My favorite on the list has to be the duo of Heat and Ice Resistance. I mean seriously, that's your only power - hope that Kopaka and/or Tahu are the only Toa you have to face and them stab them between the eyes? Meanwhile your brothers can literally alter molecules and density, and go toe to toe with the Bohrok Kal. On the other hand, at least there was a crude sense of order to the Rahkshi powers. Then 2006 comes along and suddenly the Piraka can pull a new power out of their butt for any given situation, or craft a special Zamor sphere to do the hard work for them.. Like a third of the story that year was just giving time to every single new Piraka, Kanohi, Matoran, Inika and Zamor power. No wonder they never pulled that stunt again.
  17. Yeah. I think the explanation given was that, since Universal still holds the licennse for Bionicle on DVD, they figured they might as well make use of it one last time. It really is quite an illustration of how irrelevant Bionicle has become. Remember the hype for Mask of Light's release? I was told it was massive, and basically unprecedented for a Lego product. Now there's not even enough money in the budget to give a DVD a proper back cover.
  18. The friggin' costume on the CW show looks better than the abomination in the movie. And Cyborg might as well have been joined by his pals Ironhide and Ratchet from the Transformers films.
  19. Perhaps that's why Templar Studios got them confused and gave them each other's masks.
  20. "Are you my father, Luke?" "No, Rey. The Porgs are your father."
  21. Gadunka. The answer is always Gadunka. But seriously, I'd probably go with Takanuva. He always seemed like one of the most humble characters in Bionicle, and he went through enough personal growth over the course of the story that I'm sure he'd probably be worthy by the end of the official canon.
