  1. I did play some of FFII back in the day, the PSP version.  I agree that their handling of player character deaths wasn't so great, but my main complaint would have to be the growth system: while I can understand where they were coming from, it's just not practical.  Not to mention the story is basically Star Wars, so points off in the originality department. :P

You should totally play FFV, it's sooooo much better!  I'm going to keep hammering this seriously I love this game please play it

  2. They probably thought the Dango Song was too happy for the series they were planning out. :P

Actually, you shouldn't take the last episode as its own thing--the only chance of making sense of it is in tying it back in with things that have been going on in the rest of the series.  But, again, you'll get to that.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  We needed much more Kotomi.  I guess the writers figured that the viewers can always play the visual novel to get more of the other characters, but that doesn't exactly help those of us who live in a region where said game has not been released...

  3. Well, the reason for several of these characters vanishing goes back to Clannad's origin.  At first, it was a visual novel with multiple endings, a different story path depending on who Tomoya ends up with.  As I understand it, the other characters don't really have as much reason to appear in those routes one you're locked in (I haven't played the game, but it seems logical).

If I recall correctly, Nagisa is the only heroine with an "After Story" arc--everyone else's arcs end with them still in high school.  The anime adapts several of the routes as smaller story arcs (as is usual with these sorts of adaptations), and the Tomoyo episode is based on Tomoyo's ending, but once you get to a certain point, I believe it's all based on Nagisa's After Story route.  Beyond that point, they don't really see much reason to bring the other characters in much at all, with a few exceptions (and another alternate reality episode like the Tomoyo episode).

It's definitely disappointing when you get to care about those other characters, but it does make sense.  This also plays into the issues with the final epsiode, but I'll save that rant.

  4. The first arc was planned to be longer?  Huh, interesting, I'd never heard about that...well, it certainly would have been interesting to see what might have happened in that case.

I can see how people were dissatisfied with the change in format.  It's not something I really noticed at the time, for whatever reason, but I am starting to see some of the shift in retrospect.

As for Soul Society going from bad guys to good guys, yeah, that can be a little weird, but even during the Soul Society arc several of them had enough character that I was willing to accept it.  Also, I recall Byakuya saying something about how Ichigo was fighting against the rules that condemned Rukia and not the Society itself, and afterwards, they do gradually change their rules to assist Ichigo against their common enemy.  I guess that the villains of the final arc are supposed to be like some sort of karma for what Soul Society did back in the day, which...could have worked out really well.  As for execution, well...

  5. Personally, I still really like the Soul Society arc.  We got to see a world we had kept hearing about and learn more about how it works, plus at that point the new powers Ichigo got were still extensions of his Soul Reaper powers, rather than pulling in new things from all over the place. (I mean, his Hollow/Vizard powers do make sense, but other things about those arcs feel kinda lame, and his random Arrancar-esque form from the final Ulquiorra fight was out of nowhere.)

Also, I absolutely hate Byakuya and enjoyed seeing Ichigo defeat him.

  6. I DUNNO MAN, I REMEMBER CRYING MORE DURING THE END OF KOTOMI'S ARC THAN EVEN THE MOST HEARTBREAKING PARTS LATER ON, BUT MAYBE THAT'S JUST BECAUSE I HAD DEVELOPED A CLEAR BIAS BY THEN BECAUSE I THINK KOTOMI IS ONE OF THE MOST ADORABLE THINGS EVER.

THOUGH THAT BEING SAID, I CAN STILL RECOGNIZE THAT THEY TAKE THE FREAKING GLOVES OFF DURING AFTER STORY AND GO RIGHT FOR THE JUGULAR.  GUARD YOUR FACE.  AND YOUR HEART.  YOUR HEART-FACE.  OR...FACE-HEART.  EITHER ONE.

  7. Yes, the show has much kawaii, but it's like one of those anglerfish that lures you in with an adorable decoy and then shreds your heart to pieces with its fifty razor-sharp teeth.  And then has one of the worst final epsiodes of anything ever. (The final episode of After Story, that is.)

I mean, it's worth it.  Just be prepared.

  8. You make a good point.  Still, over the past several years Square-Enix has been doing miscellaneous things with TWEWY--Solo Remix, Live Remix, putting the characters in Kingdom Hearts, new merchandise, concerts, and now the band who put on said concerts is doing an actual album.  Considering the big deal they made about Solo Remix and the existence of the secret artwork, I can't help but think they had something in mind.  Why would you design an entirely new character only to have her appear in one image?  However, with the fan backlash over how they handled the whole thing, it's reasonable to think they may have decided to wait until it all blew over, and now that they've spread Solo Remix onto Android (allowing for an even wider audience to play it), this could be taken as a signal that they're ready to try again.

I realize we may still need to wait even longer before anything actually comes of it, but I'm rather optimistic about it.  Besides, if they put in as much work as they did on the original game, I'm confident it'll be worth the wait.

  9. Like I said, I'm not that far into the tablet version, so I might not be the best person to ask.  The HD everything is very nice, I will admit, and several things in the game have been rebalanced--one Pin (which determines what powers you can use in battle) that is relatively easy to obtain is apparently made into the single best Pin in the tablet version, where the best Pins in the DS version are extremely difficult to obtain.  There's also some obvious system differences, and the original control scheme (which involves controlling two characters at once, one on each screen) is definitely more difficult, though it is plenty of fun.  Then there are minor changes, like Pins that required you to blow into the DS mic now requiring you to shake the tablet...

Actually, all of the changes are listed here on the TWEWY Wiki, so you can probably get a better idea of how they compare by checking that.  I guess which version is "superior" depends on what a person likes to get out of a game.  Plus, I'm just not that confident in comparing them until I at least beat the final boss in Solo Remix. :P
