It's funny how BIONICLE really tried to get at this, but just couldn't make it all the way. Kingdom Hearts is doing relatively okay with it, too; the main bad guy is trying to abolish what he calls "the tyranny of light", which is a fascinating way of putting it. But, all the same, darkness represents the unknown, and subsequently the negative. Obviously Yin and Yang exist throughout assorted cultures and mythologies, but stories are told from the majority, which is light.

Strong yes, and about the same. I've always liked BIONICLE and the myriad of things it could do; two whole years spent on flashbacks, giant robot twists, alternate universes, it's basically every fun sci-fi/fantasy theme in a killer jumble. Far from perfect, obviously, but for a massive transmedia effort supported almost entirely by a LEGO toy, I think it was pretty phenomenal. I feel like the inconsistency of the serials tended to sour people on it a lot towards the end, which is a shame. 2007's tight, cross-woven storytelling was incredible; 2008 was still pretty good, and allowed for even more worldbuilding, although it came at the expense of focus in the latter half. Still, there was always something to consume with BIONICLE, which was I think its greatest asset; it had something available for everybody who wanted it.

WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING THIS TO ME 1. I can't say much for the new bonkles since I don't have them all yet, but Dragon Bolt is probably the best one released so far. 2. I'm not a fan of Witch Doctor (unpopular opinion) but really any of the 2.0/3.0 heroes were boring. 3. I still really love the titan Toa Mata Nui set. Also Mazeka, because TURRET. 4. Oof... I feel like the Avtoran sort of went in the wrong direction, despite having some interesting parts. A bit unfair since they're impulse sets, but compared the the 2007 Matoran, well. Also Kazi. 5. Goooooood. 6. I wouldn't mind seeing some recycled concepts like Barraki. I'm a sucker for underwater themes. 7. I post on every single forum that anybody who liked the previous story is a terrible person. 8. It doesn't, Ekimu just makes a Mask of Barney and the island is cleaned up in no time. 9. It contains the original Islander population, and they're very hostile which is why Okoto's people moved away from there in the first place. 10. Nothing because G1 stuff has no effect on G2 stuff. 11. Space, duh. Did you even watch the episodes?

I'll see if we can make the old color scheme we had before available at some point, since it wasn't bad; the new colors just went with the new skin, is all. And the link colors are FINALLY fixed, thanks for being patient (to those of you who were patient ).

If you could take the time to change the link colors, that'd be swell.

In my personal experience, never. If you really connect with a professor, you can meet with them outside of class and try and get a better sense of what direction they think you should be heading in. But school is always going to be school. A bureaucratic nightmare of red tape and nonsense. Hopefully what you learn is beneficial to whatever career you end up finding, but the transition is not going to be seamless and definitely not going to be fun. The best you can do is just to get through it. A degree is worth it (allegedly, mind you...), and if you're not going to burden yourself with much debt, it's not a bad thing to do.

I'll second this. For stuff that doesn't have images on Bricklink, could you maybe take individual photos? I'm slowly building up a record on BS01 but some stuff is incredibly obscure and hard to find.

Thanks! I guess a lot of it boils down to different interpretations of "everything has its place". For a lot of G1 fans, that place was the canon. And I get it, since that was a defining trait of the line, that's how it resonated and defined what was going on. But now we have G2, and not only should it be allowed to at least try its own thing, but people need to realize that a line is the sum of its parts. You can prefer one thing or the other, but with an enormous transmedia efforts like BIONICLE, all of it has to be taken into account. (although maybe Hero Factory's complete inability to hold onto a plot line has just jaded me a bit =P) Also it feels weird calling the fanbase "the fanbase" because we haven't really seen the up-and-comers yet. That's something that I'm looking forward to, just seeing this new wave of fans, and all the creativity and enthusiasm they'll bring to the table.

I like Summons as much as the next guy, but having a job entirely focused on them gets a bit distracting, to me. They become more useful later on, though, especially with Conjurer.

The article itself is actually clean, but there are comments and the main pic they use is somewhat disturbing. Kotaku - Why People Get So Worked Up About Canon Shock horror awe, BIONICLE isn't the only line with a convoluted and alienating past. The article makes a lot of good points about how the collective experience of a franchise can actually be corrosive to itself, and that sometimes the crazy things the people in charge do aren't necessarily bad all the time. Probably the most relevant passage:

Ewww. I think part of the problem here is that there was a jump from "update/freshen" the main page to "reskin the wiki and new visuals all over the place." There are too many questions! I graduated school already you monster! 1. Gali. I usually love aquatic themed sets moreso than others, but she doesn't really cut it to me. 2. Takanuva. Still waiting. 3. Earth. So booooring. 4. Lightning, but call it Electricity because it sounds way less pretentious. 5. It's called not shaving, and I'm usually too lazy to do it anyway. 6. Who says I'm not? Anyway, I'd connect it to the previous canon solely in order to trim the fat off the previous line(s?). Then everything would be like BioShock Infinite and I'd be okay. 7. They would be incredibly upset and I would laugh and laugh and laugh at their rage and sorrow. 10. Yo mama. 11. As advanced as it needs to be, usually. The Mask Makers would just make a mask for whatever needed to be done, despite the Islanders leading a fairly rustic life. However, since they're both dead/comatose/whatever, the elements of the island have started turning on the inhabitants; ultimately, I don't think Okoto was ever truly meant to be habitable, which begs the question of why they settled there. 12. So you mean Eurobricks third place BFTGM winner is canon? 13. What point of the year is this? How much money do I have? Shouldn't I just try and get them as review copies? 14. That every Islander is male and they don't actually know where babies come from. 15. Document it as a reality show. Make a small fortune. Retire at the sweet age of 24.

Everybody's opinion is important! EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO DISAGREE WITH ME. The eventual plan was to turn the parent page nav into something that was more G1/G2 distinct, so that it would be appropriate for newcomers (and obviously then fit better on the page because lol rainbows). As per usual, there's some disagreement on how exactly to divide it, so it doesn't get very far =P. This is genuinely the best assessment so far.

On the UDD thing: Swert/whoever makes the skin always uses the image we have on BS01, which has said granulation. It's always been like this, just obviously more noticeable on a darker background. I'd like it changed too, but the source image is bad; I don't know where we'd get a better one. As for the logo... too bad, mister! Swert will probably change it back at some point anyway, but we've been using the same logo for years and it's boring. It was always boring and will continue to be boring. New fresh and exciting is where I'm at. And Vector is still up in the air. I hardly notice a difference from monobook myself, but Meiko suggested a few other skin types we could use, so we can explore those options. You know what happens when I ask for opinions, input, HELP, etc? Nothing. So I did something (obviously with help from Tomana and Akihabara and Morris but ANYWAY). If it's visually inconsistent or somehow at odds with design principle, there's probably a reason for that: I'm not a visual artist/web designer/anything of the sort. To me, it looks cool. Fun. Different. Better than the stuffy two column system which was previously there. It's not perfect, and it never will be without proper assistance, which I mentioned is a rarity. Mobile will likely use something completely different; the old site wasn't mobile friendly either, so I was always going to have the two divested anyway. It'll probably take a while; I refer you to my previous statements. I would absolutely love help, assistance, input, etc. but I'm not going to pretend that it's ever forthcoming, available, or regular. I make do with what I have, and like having a bit a fun. This fit the bill. Thus far, comments have ranged from "put it back" to "neat!". And maybe it won't be the default skin in the future; the only way to actual elicit any sort of opinion or emotion was to default it so that people would actually see it. This has always been the case with BS01 (or at least for the past half decade), so I do my best to put things in a position where they can evolve. tl;dr Tomana did an amazing job helping design it, haters gonna hate.

Appreciate the feedback! I thought a darker color would be appropriate, since the lighter colors seemed really dull to me lately. But it's always good to hear what people like and don't like. Also apparently more glitches randomly appeared overnight and the twitter feed stopped working. Coding, neh?

They're just standard element powers; Fire, Ice, etc. Names aside, Ekimu and Makuta were specifically said to create the masks from elements in The Legend, and the Protectors were once known to have used the masks to shape the island to their will, mentioned in the magazine insert. (in case anybody needed more proof)

This is completely different from my conspiracy theory that BZP actually trademarked the phrase "Master of" and will sue everyone for using it once the contest is over. However, I like yours as well.
