  1. I was an angsty pre-teen at that point so I really enjoyed it. Looking back 2006 was pretty laughable, it was the start of Bionicle getting much darker at some points it felt too edgy for its own good. But the Piraka were a HUGE step up from the past villains. We finally got a group of six sentient villains rather than hordes or swarms of mindless animals (Visorak) or robots (Vahki). Sure the Barraki were much better if you ask me, but the Piraka were the first wave of villains I was actually interested in since the Rahkshi. Using All American Rejects was pretty funny though. Even though 2006 was hilariously try-hard at attempting to be edgy, it got a lot of people (myself included) really back into the story, especially after the lackluster attempt at darkness in 2005. Looking back, 2006's "dark" and "edgy" tones are part of the charm, it's so not subtle and it's kind of a "so bad it's good" kinda deal. Of course, I don't think we'll see anything like this in the near future, but I'd get a kick out of it.
  2. I'd probably say Move Along and Creeping in my Soul. But if non vocal counts, I'd probably say either the main theme from the movies or the boss theme from Bionicle Heroes.
  3. Ehhh... I think the new sets are pretty decent, but... I feel kinda like the wait for the summer line isn't going to be that exciting. They're fine sets and all, but only 5? It just seems odd. Especially when the summer wave always had so much variety. I'd like to see some proper titans with more complex builds, they played such a big part in the summer waves in the past. That said, Skull Warrior (or whichever one with the bow) is pretty freakin' rad.
  4. Kinda iffy on the new skull guys to be honest. They're really neat, but I feel like there should be more of them. Is that seriously all we're getting for the rest of the year though? Seems a little lacking. I mean we're not even getting a full set of 6 guys. Seems kinda lacking especially after we got 7 canister sized sets this winter. Still, I'll probably get them, and Ekimu and Skull Grinder look pretty rad.
  5. Well, for one thing, this place has a pretty strict word filter. Although in real life, I'd say I have quite a colorful vocabulary, I really don't mind toning it down when I'm here. Even if I say dirty words on other sites or in real life, I'm able to realize that a Bionicle site is not that place for that kind of talk. I'm usually against censorship, but I don't mind it at all here. It's refreshing that I can go on at least one site and not be called horrible things.
  6. That doesn't even look like bad lighting to me, it just looks like a regular Hau.
  7. Mask of Light kinda sucked to be honest. It still has a special place in my heart because it blew my mind as a kid seeing my favorite characters come to life on screen buuuuut, the voice acting was hit or miss (Makuta and Tahu were spot on, but besides that, none of the characters seemed to have voices right for them) the animation was kinda choppy, the story was a mess and they butchered the characters. Kopaka was Tahu's big rival, not Gali. Lewa was too zen and lacked the humor and sarcasm that made him my favorite in the first place. The Toa didn't get the screentime they deserved, and the Rahkshi were awesome but for some reason they sucked in that last fight scene. The whole thing where the Toa were constantly feuding contradicted the whole thing where they learned to work together in the previous arcs and I'm not a fan of the "kill a character and bring him back to life" thing. Also disappointing that we didn't see a proper Takanuva Vs. Makuta battle. Legends of Metru-Nui was actually pretty solid though. Not a fantastic movie, but it's pretty good. The film tells one concise story from start to finish (as opposed to MoL that kinda dropped us in the middle of the story) They got the characters right this time, Vakama being the self-doubting troubled leader struggling to live up to Lhikan's legacy. Tahu might have been my favorite Toa leader, but Vakama was the leader I felt for the most. Especially now, his story really hits all the right notes for me. Matau was hilarious, I felt like he was basically what Lewa is MoL should have been. (but maybe a bit more zen) They got the bickering between Onewa, Whenua and Nuju perfectly which was one of my favorite story aspects of 2004. It also helped that they brought back Makuta (one of the few good things about MoL) and made him even more awesome. My favorite thing is how the Toa go from not liking each other to being good friends, you really get a sense that they don't get along at the start but they aren't mean spirited towards each other. Except for Onewa but he's supposed to be snarky and sarcastic. Web of Shadows was is probably the worst if you ask me. Vakama turning evil was rushed and made no sense. Didn't he already learn to be a good leader during Bionicle 2? Also since the whole movie is a flashback there was no real suspense. We already knew the Hordika would be back to normal and by the end of the film, Vakama would be buddy-buddy with the rest of the Toa again because he's there to tell us the story in the first place. The Toa once again all hated each other out of nowhere. I get it they weren't happy with their new forms but geez. Matau was way too mean spirited towards Vakama. Even Onewa would say he took it too far. Matau was the fun happy go lucky guy, but suddenly he becomes incredibly vain and obsessed with how hideous he is. Sidorak sucked, all he pretty much was was someone for Roodaka to stab in the back which brings me to one of the good things about the movie. Roodaka was awesome. One of the most underrated villains in the Bionicle universe. MoL might have been the most objectively flawed of the bunch but I can at least bring myself to enjoy the world of Mata-Nui come to life. The 2005 Metru-Nui was so bland. I didn't mind the darker shift in the story, I kinda liked it, but they tried too hard to make Vakama Anakin Skywalker. I think the story would have been much more powerful if Vakama had stayed with Roodaka and someone else like Matau or Onewa had to step in as a leader. Of course that couldn't happen because Vakama is narrating the story but that whole "good then evil then good again" thing is just as bad as "character dies and comes back to life" thing for me. Never got around to see the Legend Reborn though.
  8. It brings me back to a time with less crud to worry about. Like my biggest concern was getting the latest Bionicle toys before my friends did. Yeah, I was that guy. While I wouldn't say Bionicle is taking up as much of my life as it did back then, it takes me back and gives me a chance to escape for a while.
  9. I'm not a big purist when it comes to Bionicle, I pretty much replaced every single lime socket during 2007 because those dang things kept breaking. That aside I say get Ehlek, socket issues aside he's probably my favorite Barraki, and maybe even one of my all time favorite sets from G1. Go for it, but I'd say feel free to replace the sockets with other shades of green or something that still works with Ehlek.
  10. I feel like I'm the only human being who liked Big Hero 6 more than Frozen. Although I would say the Lego Movie at least deserved a nomination, I'm glad Big Hero 6 got a nomination.
  11. Excluding the obvious pins and such, I'm actually going to say the Visorak body piece is a personal favorite of mine. I love using it as a torso base for my MOCs.
  12. You're correct about the Protectors basically all being in a clone style, but they're the small sets, so we don't really expect as much as we would from the larger sets. Yes, the Toa share a lot of things in common, yet they are just different enough to not be clones. Some have longer limbs and different armor, they each have different piece counts vary in size and each Toa has his or her own special mold for masks that none of the others have. The Bohrak on the other hand all had the exact same number of pieces and with the exception of the shield piece had no unique pieces to their designs. While yes the Toa share many pieces with each other, each one has a very unique mask and is built different enough. The Bohrak are basically palette swaps. I felt like it was a bit of a letdown after the Rahi from 2001 which were basically the most unique villains in the series even counting other titans. I wouldn't be completely against seeing a swarm like series of bad guys but something tells me we're going to get skull-themed villains again.
  13. Hmm... That could have been pretty interesting. I actually thought the Glatorian looked pretty cool, I wish I had picked them up when they were in stock though but alas. I will say the current CCBS used with Bionicle now is very nice. It's basically a happy medium between the movements and articulation from the Inika onward but it brings back the gears we all know and love. I don't think the CCBS would have saved Bionicle, I think the disinterest in the story is what brought the series to an end. It certainly would be interesting to see characters like Strakk, Gresh and Mata Nui in CCBS form, but I think it's best that Lego stuck with the Bionicle build for the entirety of G1. Don't get me wrong, CCBS is fan-freakin'-tastic, but it's cartoony style would not do Bionicle G1 justice. It works wonders on the more vibrant style this reboot is going for though.
  14. We would hardly ever make any advancements in technology. I know this is hardly a problem with BZP because the majority of people here seem to be pretty open-minded about the reboot, but I feel like a good amount of people in a country run by the Bionicle fanbase as an entirety would be picketing to keep us from progressing as a society.
  15. LoSS has a cool gear function but all the Toa are just cooler.
  16. Oh my god I miss Homestar Runner. I like the idea. I'm going to say either the infected Lewa scene or Tahu's first appearance.
  17. I know this Pohatu is getting some hate for being underwhelming but I actually like this design choice. It fits the character, Pohatu shared a lot in common with the other Toa, being strong and stubborn like Tahu (but without the temper) and like Lewa he had a tendency to be a bit of a clown (although where Lewa seemed to be more sarcastic, Pohatu's humor was hardly ever mean spirited) and like Gali he was one of the more mediator Toa. (especially during the Mask of Light where even Gali started getting pretty cold toward Tahu) All of the Toa eventually matured and put aside their petty differences in the name of the greater good, where Pohatu was always a team player. He was just a really nice guy throughout and never felt a need to compete to be the "better Toa", which I find so refreshing especially with the oversaturation of the "angry short man" trope. Pohatu doesn't need to show off to anyone he just wants to get the job done, and I feel like the lack of showiness actually works in the set form, especially now that the Toa have even great height differences than they did before.
  18. Only and I mean only if they can make each Bohrok unique which defeats the purpose of them if you ask me. I prefer the way the new Toa are, similar builds but each one has enough differences so you can look and say it's not a clone. I'd really rather not see Bohrok again, and especially not Bohrok Kal.
  19. Pohatu is my favorite of the original Toa. You should have seen my reaction when I first played his level and realized what the developers had done with it. The only good part of the game is the music. The console/PC version is a masterpiece compared to the GBA version. Speaking of the music, does anyone know where I can find that one song that played for the Bionicle: The Game teaser trailer that came with those promotional CDs that came with the Bohrak Kal and Rahkshi?
  20. There probably won't be a parts bin, since those largely resulted from inefficient production methods that Lego has long since improved. But thanks to the non-humanoid builds that made up the majority of the sets, the Hero Factory Invasion from Below sets are excellent sources of CCBS parts, including a lot of parts that can make it easier to integrate traditional Technic with CCBS parts. And now that Bionicle's taking its place, we're likely to see a lot of sales and deals on remaining Hero Factory stock. So keep your eyes peeled! Thanks for the heads up! I might look into it after I've collected all the new sets and if I have enough extra cash to spare. I'm busy with college now though but eventually I'd like to get back into doing MoCs.
  21. Good to see you finally found Lewa. Out of the three I have (Tahu, Pohatu, Lewa) he's my favorite.
  22. I myself really like the Bohrok animations of the olden days.I like the old animations better than the 2d cartoon ones of now. I actually like them both. The old animations were cool because we got to see the characters move around in a form that was basically the same as their toy counterparts just with CG. The cartoons on the other hand are very nice and pleasing to the eye. Am I the only one here who feels like it's kind of a throwback to the old flash cartoons from G1?
  23. It's interesting. I haven't gotten very far in it, the controls are awkward but at least better than the crime against humanity that was Bionicle: The Game. I've been thinking about doing a review for that and just tearing it apart.
  24. I'm a little frustrated because I want to make some MoCs with the new building system, but I skipped out on Hero Factory because I was a spiteful little punk (I was one of those Hero Factory haters) and I was going through my teen years where I thought I was "too cool" for Lego. I would like to see Lego release a CCBS system parts bin or something because I just can't bring myself to take apart my new sets, probably won't happen though.
