  1. Well, as has been mentioned, it's entirely possible that the creatures will play antagonistic roles at the beginning, and will only become allies of the Toa after some trial or other. That is what we thought of the protectors originally so... The Protectors weren't animals. That, and a hypothesis being wrong in one instance does not disqualify it from being right in a completely separate instance.
  2. We've been reading completely different Kopakas; I always saw Kopaka's biggest flaw being his own pride, which prevented him from accepting help from others even when he could not succeed otherwise. It was his belief that he was better than the others that lead to him being withdrawn, not the other's refusal to accept it.
  3. re: "why would I buy a new Tahu when I already have one?": This is not uncommon in action figure franchises. Do I as an individual need a million different Optimus Primes? No, but Optimus Prime is a main character in nearly all Transformers media, so they need to keep him on the shelves. At least with the nature of Bionicle, we can be sure to have a new figure for Tahu, instead of the exact same mold with slightly different colors. The needs of the market must outweigh the needs of an individual buyer. LEGO doesn't care how many Tahus you own; Tahu sells, so you get Tahu. If Tahu stops selling, they'll stop making Tahu... which means they will also stop advertising him, and he will stop being a protagonist. Welcome to the world of toy-driven storylines.
  4. I get that part- all I'm saying is in Ninjago practically anytime anything major happens there is another set of costumes. I'm all for Toa upgrades, just not every other wave. *sees my friend change clothes* Careful, don't want to get too many costumes. The fans will hate that.
  5. In addition to above discussion, I'm pretty sure if LEGO asked for BZP to take it down, they would. It's not like BZP plans to make a habit of flying flagrantly in the face of LEGO's wishes.
  6. I could see that one. It makes more sense to me than Kiina x Mata Nui imo Ackar is too old. Aren't they all, like, millions of years old? At that point, I'd think any age gap beyond literal children would be irrelevant. What's honestly the difference between someone ten thousand years old and eleven thousand years old?
  7. I seem to remember something about the Red Star's prophecies not actually being part of the Red Star (I believe the canon explanation is that the Turaga came up with them and matched them up with positions of the Red Star, but correct me if I'm wrong), which results in some continuity errors when the Red Star's position predicts something the Turaga could not possibly know (i.e. when Makuta would wake the Bohrok) The problem is, with Bionicle smattered across all kinds of media, and the ease of direct access to its most visible writer, it's taken on a weird kind of canon where there can't be a such thing as a continuity error. Going completely straightforward, like TFWiki does, any contradiction between two forms of media is technically a continuity error, but because Bionicle canon has openly declared swaths of media to be non-canon, it's become an item separate from that media, into a nebulous thing that can resolve all such errors with a quick answer declaring the offending event non-canon.
  8. Honestly, I think i prefer the final style more. It has more personality, IMO.
  9. I apparently have some sort of surprise in store for me when I get home from work today, so we'll see how that goes. Is it a.... GOVERNMENT SURPRISE? (Happy birthday, B6.)
  10. Oh man, tell me about it. I'm keeping the look on people's faces when I showed Metalbeard's gear function close to my heart.
  11. I love the fact that Bigfoot comes with a camera more than I should.
  12. Uncracked lime joints from 2007. Joking aside, the rarest is probably the trans Tahu mask. I suppose my prototype shadow leech might be rarer, but it's indistinguishable from a normal shadow leech so it hardly counts.
  13. I'm trying to remember when this happened, but chances are it happened when I was pretty much on the verge of a meltdown. I'm sorry I gave you the impression you intimidated me or anything; it was very nice to meet you. I was just in a bad place.
  14. I was initially going to write a recap each day, but I turned out to not have the energy required, so here's just an overall recap. First things first: I am never riding the bus again. It's noisy, the bus rattles like it's being shaken apart, and some dude vomited in one on the way home. There was nothing pleasant about this experience. The convention, meanwhile, was quite enjoyable. One of the first things I purchased was a big bag of Galidor parts, and boy did I have fun. I even won a MISB Gorm in the silent auction! (I hate collectors, though, so I opened it. Not like its value can go down. ) Admittedly, I took my Galidor jokes too far, for which I apologize. I am, unfortunately, not the best at knowing what's taking a joke too far. Metalbeard was nominated for the Best Bionicle - Humanoid Brickee and ended up winning! Even if I don't (Fiddler was nominated for non-humanoid, but lost to Kayru's Kayru.) Speaking of Fiddler, this was its last con. I'm not one for keeping things together, and I haven't had its parts available for over a year now, so it was time to let it go. Next year, though, don't be surprised to see a new crab on the convention circuit. I spent a lot of time with friends/acquaintances I never got to meet before, and certainly had a good time with them. Admittedly, it was quite jarring how different people's real voices are from the voices I read their posts in online. Still, I got to see a side to some of the staff I've never seen before, even if it may have just been because I hung around Andrew because we roomed together. Fun! I was pretty awkward, what with all the newness, and I ended up having a meltdown on the final day because I was convinced everyone hated me because of something stupid, but overall it was a positive experience. Who knows? Maybe I'll try coming down again next year. I certainly have plenty of plans for MOCS! (P.S.: Despite what I was told, I made it through the entire weekend and still say it "em-oh-see". I am unbreakable.)
  15. I thought this entry was going to be really bad but instead it was really good.
  16. See, I don't get why this comes up so much, because for many definitions of "finished", Bionicle was by all means finished. The main conflict was resolved, most main plot threads resolved, character arcs concluded, etc. It's not like it dropped off before Makuta was defeated or Mata Nui was revealed; it told its story, start to finish. Most things that were not resolved when Bionicle concluded were slapped on knowing full well the main story was ending soon. The Velika story, the civil war idea, the Red Star thing -- all of this was an attempt at a "next chapter", so to speak. (Others were some plot threads that were unceremoniously dropped when the line was cancelled, but I still don't think that qualifies as unfinished so much as shoddily finished.) It's like if J. K. Rowling started some small stories set after the end of the 7th book, but then dropped them. It would be foolish to claim under those conditions that Harry Potter was an unfinished story, because it already told its story. Voldemort was defeated. Similarly, Bionicle told its story. Bionicle was a finished story. The unfinished parts were an attempt to continue after the end that didn't pan out when Greg realized he far prefers writing things that make him the money he needs to survive. Actually, a lot of the serials were follow-ups to things introduced during the main run. The Mahri and the Golden Fusion, for example, happened in late-'09, and weren't fully dealt with until later. We still don't know exactly what happened to the Mahri. The RS--Gali saw something alive up there back in 2007, and this was explored in more detail in 2010. All established earlier on, but sadly not explored until much later, not "slapped on at the end," as you so claim. Both of those were in serials, where Greg had free rein to add on as many little plot threads as he wanted. They hardly qualify as integral parts of the main story that were left unfinished. The main story very much said what it was going to say.

  19. This is the strangest non-sequitur I've seen in a long time.
  20. Women come in as varied shapes and sizes as men do.
  21. hoo boy was today exciting! After a day and a half on assorted buses, I finally made it to BFVA for the first time. I met a large assortment of BZP friends, even going so far as to do what the youth these days call "hanging out" with some of them. I played Settlers of Catan and remembered why that game has almost destroyed my family (and as usual people ended up with far too many sheep). I took part in an early parts draft that ended as they usually do for me: I grabbed all those pieces that seem fun without grabbing many that are more universally useful. Still, it was a win, and I could at least build some little things like these with them. I also got to see my crab for the first time in a year, which is good because I have missed it a lot. (It's probably still the best MOC I've ever made.) It's probably a bit anticlimactic that, after all this fun and excitement, what I looked forward to most was getting to sleep in a bed for the first time in two days. (Buses SUCK.)
  22. I forgot you were coming and missed seeing you! I'll try and meet you on Friday at some point.
  23. Pretty sure they've been putting the same electricity effect around any and all weapons and masks they can.
  24. Because after he uses it to completely trounce the Toa, the forge will still be right there for the melting.
