  1. I'm happy to have seen this review here, as I'm contemplating on picking up this set. Unlike most people, I usually look at sets for the build and not the figures (to the point of sometimes selling off the minifigs and keeping the vehicle/building/scenery) and I really liked the look of this speeder. The price does seem a bit steep, but seeing the innards, I just might pick it up!
  2. is... is that a Clickitz box? Woah
  3. It's a cute, small, creative build! I must say, I always liked the look of these kinds of smaller, not-overdesigned builds to be honest. The feet are a high-point, but I'm not quite sold on the hands, you might want to make them a tad bigger? Anyhow, good job!
  4. Thank you for the kind words! That would definitely improve the feet... additionally, the poor guy isn't too stable in most poses since he's not standing upright, and often times the model is balancing on the balljoint, not the actual feet. With that modification, I could add a subtle little structure below it for stability too. Great advice!
  5. It's more of a question of "when" and not "if", but I think to avoid the awkward halfway-reboot/halfway-reference baiting G1 route which G2 took that failed to capture the imaginations of both old fans and new instead of the goal of capturing both (of course, some of us, including me, really liked G2, but not enough), Lego needs to commit to one method or the other. Either they take the base concept and idea that is Bionicle without carrying over names and typical story beats, thus taking things in a fresh direction while still capturing the essence of Bionicle. While I personally am somewhat opposed to the idea of not seeing the six Toa Mata again in some form, it's not like over the 10 year run of G1 it was entirely consistent, thus trying something new can still be done while still being Bionicle. Keep the tropical vibes, the six elements (I'm adamant about stone) and six heroes, but drop the rest and take the story and setting into an entirely new direction. The other way is the exact opposite, and to link directly to G1. "But Pohaturon, that's impossible to pull off well, it ended 8 years ago with a bunch of complex plot threads!". Yes, I know and the reasons why a direct G1 continuation wouldn't work have been discussed to death. This could be pulled off by setting G3 such a long amount of time after the events of 2010's story that the events wouldn't be of direct consequence. This would still make it accessible to news fans while allowing Lego to pepper it with references, call-backs and such to actual G1 events and characters. Maybe bring back the Mata as Turaga, for example.
  6. The tribal Garara are a semi-intelligent race of Rahi who are an odd cross between rodents and reptiles. Though half as big as the average Matoran, physically weak and primitive, the Garara are convinced of their own superiority and consider themselves the apex life-form with all other species below them, and get violently angry if they feel they are not given the respect their superiority demands. They have a fascination with gold and all that is the color gold, revering it like some sort of deity. The gold pigment is natural in their skin - possibly the reason for their perceived superiority - and the individuals with the most gold on their skin are the most desirable and attractive. While they mentally and technologically primitive, they have oddly enough highly advanced cosmetics intended to make individuals more gold. They are generally passive and harmless, but if offended, are willing to rush into wars they have no chance of winning. They have a characteristic head-tilt, signifying either curiosity or confusion, depending on circumstances. During his many adventures, Brutaka once encountered a Garara tribe. Ever since, they are convinced he is some sort of deity. Flickr album As always, all comments are appreciated!
  7. Will definitely tune in! I've had my eye on the new buildable Boba and am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
  8. This is probably that kind of question which no one asked before and we don't know the answer to, and Greg would just make something up on the spot. If I'd have to guess, the situation would look like this: If Onua has the Rua and Wairuha the Pakari like you suggest, the Rua would be "locked" into combined form so long as it is on Onua's face, while if Wairuha would then separate, I'd imagine the "foreign" Pakari would just be ejected on the floor with the three component Toa all being maskless. As for the Spear, I assume it would just spilt up the Kaita into the component beings.
  9. I must be behind. When was this ever stated? And how does that make any sense when we know mask powers are determined by what combinations of Kanoka are used to make them? Someone here on BZP discussed this some time ago and had a Greg discussion post as a source, I do not recall the exact wording but the colossal kerfuffle around what/how/why masks do/work always rubbed me up the wrong way and that particular retcon is one of my least favorite. It's like the mask is a "lens" to concentrate the inner power or whatever of the user, and some beings possess the potential or this innate ability to activate masks (Toa), some to a smaller extent (Turaga) and some don't (Matoran). The masks themselves having power, and users requiring a certain amount of mental aptitude and talent in their use made more sense IMO.
  10. They were the formative and defining years of Bionicle. The setting, the characters and the story were fairly unique and original as opposed to being either a standard sci-fi or standard fantasy setting. Those years also set the tone and atmosphere of their own stories and media in a fantastic manner - just look at how universally loved MNOG is, and for good reason. That atmosphere, that feeling managed to permeate every part of the 2001-2003 era. The sets which, with today's eyes were rather simple and limited, were fascinating at the time and felt unlike anything Lego ever made before in spite of the similarities with the Slizers and to a lesser extent Roboriders. I've been on board with Bionicle since the very beginning, though initially as a youngster, and I recall the theme having a kind of enchanting, profound sense to it which managed to come across to children without being oversimplified. Plus, you know, the rose-tinted glasses help a lot.
  11. I like him a lot! This isn't a frequently seen color scheme, and the custom weapon looks neat.
  12. Actually, the new parts have a good reputation for being mighty sturdy, especially compared to the 2007-2009 parts. However, was the set perchance displayed in a way that it got a lot of direct sunshine, or relatively more heat? Even the minute heat expansion and subsequent contraction is enough to, over a long period of time, wear down the parts. Otherwise, it would be something of a unique occurrence - as I said, these parts should be really endurant.
  13. Thank you both for the kind words!
  14. I for one welcome this more positive counterpart to that other needlessly gloomy thread. I discovered BZP a good few years before I joined, and was a avid reader and lurker. The very first thing that led me here, I know not from where but likely a google search regarding Bionicle fan comics, was Dark709's Comics. I loved those things, and I remember that as a wee lad the animate "movie" of those was one of the coolest things I saw made by a fan of something. The forums sucked me right in, and I watched on for a few years before jumping in. My lurking years were mostly the product of anxiety, fearing that I would not fit in or find some ways to embarrass myself. In fact, I'm not sure how active at all I was before the datapocalypse. I know I stopped being active completely after the cancellation (which I regret) and only returned in 2015. My 'rediscovery' of BZPower happened due to a chance encounter with the reboot in a toy store, and I tried the site to see whether my old account still existed, and it did with a 2 digit post-count, so I guess I wasn't terribly vocal in the olden days. Probably for the better, though.
  15. *Insert joke about how this is what happens when they cancel Bionicle*
  16. Seconded, majorly. Though I think an Exo-Force reboot might work better as a hybrid a-la Invasion From Below.
  17. Just won this guy via stream, so I won't be participating like I usually do, but best of luck to all entrants!
  18. Masks stopped making any sense after the umpteenth retcon, so not only doesn't shape determine power, they themselves have no power but "amplify the power within the user" or some nonsense which should make the powerless/noble/great distinctions pointless, but doesn't, somehow. So yeah, Norik's mask was shaped like a different mask - same thing with Krakua's Hau shaped Suletu.
  19. I don't think there ever was official mention either way, but I doubt they'd change such a core, underlying element of what makes Bionicle, well... Bionicle. It's kinda the base premise. I think it's safe to assume they were biomechanical, but as said above, maybe at a different ratio than G1.
  20. I based more than just the claw sizes on those little buggers. It's mainly a fiddler with a lick of hermit mixed in, basically. Nice catch!
  21. I so knew that head would be used for Jan Ors in a MOC sooner or later. True enough, the result is fantastic! I always like the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, nice to see characters from such an old but important part of Legends canon being made.
  22. Just tried that one too; no better success, I'm afraid. My computer seems convinced that the patch file "contains a virus or malware" and is giving me trouble with downloading it from there. Do you know if that's just the nature of the patch's filetype, or is there really something potentially harmful in it? I know AVG can be rather... overzealous sometimes; but without knowing enough about the reason for the warning, I'm reluctant to bypass it in case there really is a risk ^^; I can tell you with complete confidence that it is harmless. Bitdefender let it through without issue, and I did a scan right now just to make sure. We used AVG on the desktop for a while and it even considered official, legit game files from Steam installations with a well known publisher as potential malware. It's nonsense, really
  23. I'm definitely loving the Mythical Creatures and Rocket Rally Car sets, both have fantastic looking atypical models with lovely color schemes!
  24. Either Chronicles #1 Tales of the Toa, or Adventures #1 Mysteries of Metru Nui, and both pretty much for the same reasons. Both are introductions to settings I absolutely love, both are collections of many smaller adventures shared by some of the Toa or done alone, and both are better representations of what Mata Nui and Metru Nui were like just any normal day unlike stories when some significant central event is the topic of the plot (As much as I like the character interactions in Adventures #3 The Darkness Below, I disliked the fact that practically the whole book takes place in maintenance tunnels). It's a hard pick for me because both books, both settings and both sets of characters are deeply nostalgic for me.
