I think that, for Canadian fans, it was the fact that they cancelled the comic series slightly after the Fall of Atero. We missed out on a large chunk of story, and while it might not have driven people to absolute hate, it certainly wasn't a 'pro' I do agree with the set thing, though, they started to really change course that year, and dropping those huge changes made it harder for long time fans to adjust
