I came back up home for Easter. Well, sort of. My parents are paying tuition so I figure I'll humor them and come up, but I probably spent more of my (awake) day not at home and instead with my best friend. Half of that time at the WAMALUG meeting. So there may have been other motivations to come up...

At WAMALUG we helped build little models for the light boxes at the new, upcoming LEGO store in Annapolis, Maryland. Now, that's a little far from my house, but I figure I should take a field trip out to the opening so I can see "my stuff" and get a opening day brick! It'll be cool.

Then we went to his college to hang out with some of his friends (unfortunately, another one of our friends who also goes there and some other friends of his were gone for the Easter weekend). It was cool though. We had a good time hanging out. Hopefully I can visit again and meet some other friends. They sound like a really cool bunch (more random than my current friends; more like my type last year. *sigh*). At the very least I'll probably be hanging out with them at Katsucon in February.

So now I'm hanging out at home after brunch with my family, grandma and uncle. Surfing the interwebs and catching up on stuff I missed yesterday and throughout Lent, if you know what I mean. Soon I'll be heading back home to school.

First off, it's rated R. You decide what that means to you. Though I think it was a mild R. It's also an action thriller, but the only terribly violent part being a pretty cool gun fight. Very well done. (A few other bits of shooting throughout the film not hidden off camera. And strong swearing, but not excessive.)

Now, onto the movie (no worry about spoilers):
It was really good. Not amazing, and slightly confusing, plus it left you with a "wait, is that the end?" thing going through your mind. You need to be focused on the movie when watching it, unlike me who had a few other distractions of life float through my mind here and there. So for me I'm slightly confused, but I did enjoy it and when pieced together with my friends it really does all come together. [/ramble]

Apparently it's based off a real life scandal with the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, the central bank that is part of the plot. All the major countries of the world work through this bank, and the bank uses the money for controversial deals in secret. But Interpol catches on after the bank has been killing anybody who learns too much of what the bank is actually doing, putting their lives at risk as they try to bring down the bank. (Cue cross-country chase.)

It's not explosion-action, but more so an intense mystery/thriller with the action being chases and, as stated, gun fights. Clive Owen does a great job, as does Naomi Watts. Their characters know what they're doing and will not let anyone stop them. They are at risk of being killed and need to make sure that doesn't happen yet at the same time finish the case soon. The music was also super--my friend says he'll be getting the soundtrack.

Would I recommend this movie? (First, it's R, so if you're under 17 then no.) If you're into thrillers (this is becoming my new favorite genre) and thinking about the plot, then I suggest go for it, it's a good choice. But I'd suggest waiting until DVD. I'm not regretting paying $10 to see it in theaters, but for $4 at Blockbuster I can watch it a second time to fill in all the details I missed when watching it a first time. I hope to do that actually once it's on DVD, because the story is great but I missed something. It was, yes, enjoyable.

Katsucon was great! Pix to come soon. They're already up if you know where to look. You have to be my friend though.
Got inspired to make a Steampunk cosplay after seeing some cool costumes at Katsucon. I even bought some goggles for it, and they're so super awesome I wish I could wear them around my neck all the time!
The internet was apparently down on campus all weekend, so I'm glad I was up home not worrying about such things. Getting back and having to survive 24 hours without it is another story...
I must have caught something at the con. Being around tons of people and only getting 5 or so hours of sleep a night can do that. Which is why the con guides always say to get at least 6 and take plenty of vitamin C and of course drink water. I probably didn't do that enough either. So I pretty much slept the day away upon getting back and after my 8 AM and 10 AM classes today. But I had energy to get online and ended up not doing homework, despite my tests on Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow is going to be busy.
Those ToyFair pix are spiffy, even if most of the bodies are Inika-ish, which is worse than the current stuff. I guess I'll post my passive thoughts soon too.

Decided on going to the dance. Asked a friend tonight and got a positive response. We plan on going with two other friends.

I hope the music is good.

Well, I mean, I have a ton of stuff I could blog about, but at the same time--oh, wait, I have a list of things to blog about. And I think there's a drafted entry a few pages back. I should go check on that or else it'll end up like the other drafted entry I forgot about. That was about my favorite types of music, but I never completed it, so it just drifted away...(and maybe if Shine is reading this he might actually know where it is... )

So, there's that *dance* coming up at school. I've pretty much figured out a few options to skipping that and still doing stuff with friends so I'm not in my room alone when I knew I could have been with my friends literally a two minute walk away having fun:
    1) My guy friends who also are not going and I all go see a movie. I'd love to see Push, but I thought they would rather see Outlander, which also looks awesome, but when I showed them the trailer they were not as impressed with it as I was. And I thought olde (notice the spelling) stuff was right up their alley. So if we still do a movie it might be something I don't want to see so then I'm back to, as was the problem in the first place, staying in my room while I know my friends are out having fun. (I forgot exactly what they wanted to see instead, but I don't think I was too interested. Maybe Gran Torino, which I keep hearing is awesome, but at the same time it's just not my type--maybe.)
    2) So that said, or not said, I'll need a date to the dance (because going stag sucks). I've deduced it down to a good friend, but I don't know. I don't even know if she's going, which would just make it worse if we both had nothing to do and could have done or whatnot. I'd probably have to IM her roommate first to find out if she had any plans, friends to go with, etc, before even thinking about making a move. (And yes, it'd be "just friends," but it still makes things awkward.) So to save myself, yet not really, I just don't want to worry about it. But that's me running away from a problem. (Not that the guy's night out wasn't, but at least that was justified.)
    3) The Catholic Campus Ministries wants to send a campus minister to the Diocese place to have dinner, Mass, and a cool chat with the Bishop about CCM activities. That'd be cool, since I'm not a part of the Richmond Diocese except here at school, and it'd be nice to meet the Bishop and see other CCM ministers as well. Granted, I'm not a minister, but the minister might not be able to make it (because he has dance plans). I am, however, on staff, and, despite my noob status, might be a candidate if I stepped up. I just don't have a car, so that probably rules out this option. (Ironically, that girl might be interested in going to this, which again leaves me to hanging out in my room alone.)

On a down note, I woke up at 8:20 this morning. My first class is at 8:00. On an up note, my friend burned me the Paramore Riot! CD. Yayz! On a down note, for some reason, "Misery Business" was copied twice, in a row. That'll make it interesting when listening to it in the CD player. (It wouldn't be a big deal except that it was burned on a cool red CD, so simply burning another one makes me sad to waste it. I could, I guess, give it to my brother, but that might be a tad mean?

OK, emotion dump. Done, thank you, I feel remotely better, except I still have no direction. Not that I expect any useful comments on either of these nor are you required to give any. Because by now I should be able to handle girls and my wake up schedule. (Which means I should get off now and go to bed soon. Except I have to go get notes from that girl soon because I missed our English class.)

Just a quick sketch when I got bored at work. Drawn on receipt paper. A space ship for MOCing purposes, which I will try harder to do this semester.

In other news my dad gave me a threatening "pep-talk" before leaving for school about my grades. Granted, since before the end of last semester I knew I needed to improve them and have already set out a "game plan," but now it's going to seem like I'm getting better grades for him and not for myself. (Hmm, I guess this is just another consequence of bad grades.) There'll be no end to this.
I just can't tell him I am loving my freedom and socializing and everything I never did at home and am so glad to be away from him and that I think that what you learn in college is only a fraction learned in the classroom. I doubt he'll like that idea.

But seriously guys, comment on the VV. I have plenty of advice from everyone else on those two long paragraphs.

Is a button down white shirt, which I shall attach a Gryffindor logo to. And I shall wear my red striped tie. There is also my tunic, most often used for my Black Cat cosplay. I shall wear this at some point today as well.

That’s right folks, I have two costumes for one Halloween.

Potter, as we just found out I can cosplay pretty well, or a Pirate, as planned for a while now? (Plus a hallmate wants to see me in my tunic, which would be in the Pirate costume.)

P-) (Pirate emote!) I can probably be one next year and on and on.
,:-) (Potter emote? Y/N) But this is probably my one chance to be Harry, again.

I should build a Battlestar Gallactica Viper.

    Considering everyone else does it.

'Cept I've seen only one episode (cool episode though) and don't like building pre-existing stuff because then people can point out my flaws from the actual thing.

Though it would be a good building experience for me, what with the SNOT and all.

Or maybe I'll just get inspired by Peter L. Morris, considering his stuff is a step above Vipers and is still exactly what I want to build like.

I'm not much of a New Year's Resolutions kind of guy, but I thought I'd have some fun with it. (I know how I spelled the title, yes)

    New Year's Resolutions:

    1) Watch more Anime!
    -The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
    -Fullmetal Alchemist
    -Escaflone
    -Martian Successor Nadesco
    1b) Read more Manga!
    2) Build more MOCs!
    3) *Obtain sets (but not limited to):
    -Lesovikk
    -Hailfire Droid
    -Chameleon Hunter (green!)
    -Kirop
    -Radiak
    -Fierce Creatures
    -Key Chain Name Kit
    -Wizard Impulse Set (x2)
-Mars Mission Minifig Impulse Set (x2)
    ............(Assuming they are $2 each)
    *Possibly:
    -River Dragon
    -Battle Arachnoid
    -Mini Trains (green!)
    -Midnight Streak
    -Lego Star Wars Shirt
    -Summer sets
*To expand my outlook, look into:
    -Castle
    -Racers (including Speed Racer)
*The resolutions to be broken (wish list):
    -Rogue Shadow
    -Ultimate Collector's Millenium Falcon
    -Y-Wing Fighter

See, these can't be broken! I get so little sets as it is, if I don't get something on the list it doesn't matter!

    Also, my current wallpaper.
After it was this. (I always changed to my Star Wars calender pix at the start of the month)

And I got Downfall today, which pauses reading The Golden Compass, Inkspell, and On Writing, (Not to mention I haven't started The Two Towers.). I should be finishing it shortly, like before bed tonight perhaps. (It also pauses reading Northanger Abbey, for school, which I absolutely can't stand, and even worse I have to finish it by Monday.)

Ah, the holidays. Yes, it's better to give than to receive. But since people want to know what other people would like, everybody has a wish list.

I won't bore you with my whole list, but I was able to compile a list of Lego I want (as in sets with good peices that will be nice for MOCing), and then cut it in third. And I probably won't get all of these anyway.

    (Listed by price)
    * Bridge Walker vs. White Lightning (if it's still around)
*** MX-71 Recon Dropship (in place of BW v. WL)
    * Maxilos and Spinax (I doubt I'll get him, I'd rather have the Dropship)
    * Naboo N-1 Starfighter with Vulture Droid (I love that big wing piece)
*** Lesovikk (He's amazing. Great pieces too)
*** Lobster Strike (I realized this comes with great pieces)
*** Iron Condor (pieces, etc. It's cool)
    * Toa Mahri Nuparu (armor)
    * Claw Crusher (He comes with many ball joint bricks that I'd use)
    * Morak (I need blue visorak feet. But I don't use blue often)
    * MX-11 Astro Fighter (another one, maybe...)
    * Mini Robots (maybe) (telephones!)
    * Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon (yeah right)

I have two siblings (so that's one set, hopefully Lesovikk), my parents (that's 0-1 set; one of the first three), my grandma, and my uncle. There's another uncle, but he'll probably just get me an American Express gift card which I probably will not be allowed to use towards Lego. But I'll tell him what I want anyway, sometimes he'll send stuff.
Luckily I can count on my two friends to get me Lego, usually the new stuff, and then more 4 weeks later for my birthday.

I've also been thinking that I don't quite need Bridge Walker, so I might drop it and just ask for the Recon Dropship....

That's my opinion on sets. I figure you might agree/disagree, have comments. (But I don't think you'll be able to sway me to a different set) Now all I have to do is place the appropriate clews.

I'll be at Anime USA on Saturday!

It's an Anime Convention in the DC area. This year it's at Crystal City.
I will be attending on Saturday with some friends.

I think I'll only have about $50 spending money though, if that. At the least I'm going to try to get an FMA shirt. Other possibilities include manga/anime for a good price, J-music, the FF7 soundtrack if Omi tells me how good it it, and there's always those odds and ends that pop up (throwing star, anyone?)

And seeing this makes me want it more.
(especially 15 of these in black!)

Classes started today. As others have done, I'll list my classes and some details, most likely about the teacher and if any friends are in it:

    1: Accounting

-Teacher says it'll be a hard course.
-Teacher is a little crazy, also says she doesn't quite like Accounting.
    2: U.S. Government

-Teacher is mean in general. That's a fact throughout the whole school even before I got her. This is probably the one teacher nobody wants.
    3: Analysis

-New teacher to the school, but he's experienced with math and was in the army for a while before he decided to start teaching. Hopefully he's good.
-I like math, and I don't think this'll be too bad.
    *1 friend
    4: Physics

-The course might be hard, but I'll work hard. The teacher also gives extra credit.
-Teacher is a little crazy but seems to know his stuff.
    *1 friend
*1 mortal enemy/leech/why won't he just shut up and go away like everyone wants him to?!?!?!
    5: Lunch

    *2 friends, and another aquaintance
*Another friend. We'll see who I end up sitting with mostly. (I have mentioned this friend in the blog before, just so you know)
*Another friend coming in second semester, who will sit with my 2 friends and aquaintance
    6: Creative Writing

-Great teacher! Fun guy, with a fun class. It should be fine.
*1 Friend, and more aquaintances. This is a great class with a bunch of friendly people that we all can be open with.
    7: Religion: Catholic Thought

-I've had this nun before for French 1. She's not too bad, and a good teacher. It'll just take a little work.
-For first semester all we need (as far as books go) are three from C S Lewis!
    8: English (4)

-The teacher is nice, young, and similar to my teacher last year (and friends with her) so there doesn't seem to be a big switch except that the class is a grade higher than last year.
Well, I think that's it for now. We have a Senior Cookout tomorrow (it's 12:05 dismissal all week!) and our first football game on Saturday, against our biggest rival, so I'm definately going!

Found a link to a CNN video (so it's ok to post, right?)
    Link
This video talks to Nathan about his hobby and his exhibit. You can see many of his sculptures (Like "yellow" as seen in the Comedy Central video, as well as other color-named works) and a nice chat with him.

I hope it works, it didn't since it's a couple month's old and says I need a new plug-in. If people are having troubles with it I might decide to just talk about it and him.

I was about to title this entry "Just Shaved!" because I haven't shaved since last Saturday.

Anyway, I'll address everyone's comments here. Thanks a bunch!

Scout Camp Henson, part of DelMarVa council, was great! The best part was COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) in which we did mind games (I'll post one soon), low ropes/ground team-building games, and high ropes of a rock wall, a giant ladder, a cool rope/thingy obstacle course, and a rope bridge leading to a zip wire (the zip wire is what makes everything worth it). Now, with this entry's title, I'm not the most relaxed when it comes to high stuff. Which is half of why I took COPE. The other half is I enjoy doing the high stuff that I can do. I know I'm strapped in which makes everything safe, so I just do it and have fun freaking myself out. (I don't like roller coasters though)
COPE also had a game where we got clothes pins and were to go around sticking them on all the other campers. Really fun, especially when you see the guy you pinned a couple hours later and they still have the pin stuck to them. It's also fun hearing a guy go "hey! How'd that get there?" One rule: if you get caught you have to take it back. But it's fun!

As far as disrespectful scouts go, they kept it up. My scout master is someone who wants all scouts in scouting and doesn't want to kick out the bad apples. Thing is, those bad apples ruin the activity for everybody else. The totally screwed around the dinner tables when staff waitered one night, and it took half an hour to clean it up. But enough on the bad stuff. (Bundalings, I wish I could kick them out of the troop)

As far as Wednesday night with the rain, I've noticed it almost always rains on Wednesday at summer camp. I don't think that's changed except once. And if the rain starts on Tuesday night and continues after midnight, that counts. It's really fun to walk around in the rain, because your rain gear keeps you dry!

xccj: yeah, crazy flamethrowers, really unsafe, really stupid...
"No cotton" What's crazy is that my council (NCAC: National Capital Area Council) also says no cotton (I bring almost all cotton...) yet they always have cotton shirts for activities such as scout camps, venturing eco-challenge, and Philmont. If they gave us a polyester Philmont shirt I wouldn't have to go buy a third poly shirt. Sometimes adults don't make sense.

Being on a computer at camp? Yeah, the camp has computers. They need them for Computer and Photography Merit Badges in the morning, but after that they're available for Merit Badge use after lunch and internet stuff after 8 PM. This is the only camp that has this that I know of. Pretty sweet!

It's bittersweet. I'm no longer SPL, so I don't have to deal with those guys, but I'm still in scouts, and am willing to help out, especially since I still need my Eagle Badge. Thing is, I'm a rising senior, so while I've put scouts first I want to get back to life and...say, go to Homecoming, Anime USA, and WAMALUG things and Murphy's law will make all the campouts over all those events. But I'll help out as long as I'm not in direct contact with those troublemakers. I'm relieved to get rid of all that responsibility, but at the same time that means I don't have that power!

We'll see what happens. But my last summer camp was a blast! If you are in the Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West VA regions; or just like to travel far for summer camps, then I would totally recommend Henson! (for COPE) And Rodney! (for an awesome sailing program) Search for that because I blogged about that last year.

Oh, one final note: a fellow SPL and I MCed the closing campfire. Oh, also, there was an OA ice cream social one night. Does your camp do that?

So I have exams this week. Actually, today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow (good movie)
So I might not be on. I shouldn't be on now.

Today I had Religion and English 3

Religion was harder than the teacher made it sound, but I won't fail it at least, I doubt.

English was easy, as I had all the answers from a study guide handed out last week to study from, so I knew almost every answer before hand.

    Tuesday: French and Chemistry.

    Wednesday: Math and History

Then I'm out! I have 18 episodes of Bubblegum Crisis to watch before I have to return them to my friends on Saturday.
