It is only partially canon because Greg didn't write any of it and wanted to do different things with characters and interactions in his stories. The hints at romance, some of the events, challenges, and character traits are explicitly non-canon, unfortunately.

Bring me a Starbucks mug!!!

While I'm sure LEGO has a little input in these things, this is what happens when you license yourself for movies. I doubt they have much control over how many films are being made or what the topic of them is beyond a creative approval.

This was the best idea OMG.

While I do have eventual plans to use some of these on MOCs, and whatnot, let's face it. I have a bunch of this mask just sitting in a bag. I've never planned on hoarding them (contrary to the common refrain on my favourite image board ), and though I plan on handing them out at cons (like I did at Cascade a few weekends ago and will at BrickfairVA in a few months), that still leaves me with a lot of them. I'm not interested in selling them (and I'm not sure I'd be technically allowed to considering the source?) So now that the reboot has gotten a few months in fully, and most folks who want the sets have them (and if not, Targets seem to have Onua for like ten dollars now, so go buy him) let's do this. Post puns in this entry. Best four get a clear mask (without the NYCC backing, because those ones I do plan on keeping) in the mail from me. All puns based on the "Hau/how" similarity are automatically disqualified because hau dare you. EDIT: I forgot an arbitrary ending time. So, this Saturday at whenever I decide. Also, I apologize for those of you elsewhere, but I'm too poor to ship outside the US because of California.

When I saw this on Tumblr, I reblogged it faster than almost anything else I've reblogged. I love this. I'm a huge sucker for dragons as is, but even without the parts limitations, this is gorgeous. Brilliantly done!

BIONICLE Episode 7 Released in English
dviddy replied to Hapori Tohu's topic in BZPower.com News Discussion
Really? I thought Tahu and PoF had lines and talked, and now the group of Toa have all had their own chance to speak. They have all spoken the same way a character in an audiobook has "spoken". It is just a narrator using slightly different voices to differentiate the characters for his audience. Like a guy around a campfire. But... why? Wouldn't it be far more effective to have distinct voices for these animations? These aren't literature, these are visual pieces and having a single narrator to do all the voices would be like watching a movie where everything is dubbed over by the same voice. Sure there's narration, but I think it would work better to have that separated from the characters. It furthers the gap between the characters and makes them seem more individual. As far as films- a bunch if movies I saw as a kid did exactly that. Milo and Otis is one of the best examples I can think of. -

Or they could have one voice actor who can manage six characters! Not actually that hard given most voice actors are expected to be able to do a few significantly different voices. That strikes me as the best idea. And I recognize that it's not the characters' voices, but the narrator speaking. I also recognize that as incredibly stupid. Audiobooks and adults reading stories to their children are cancelled forever now. Unless you have someone else to do the voices of the opposite sex, it will never be good enough. This is neither of those things. There is no excuse for this. They can do better than this. And I see them as obligated to do so. Except that it is almost exactly that. It's a narrator. None of the characters outside the omniscient narrator have ever spoken. We have heard the voice of one character, and who he is, well, that's the mystery. -
Oh don't worry. That's what Cascade is best at.

Do we know that we will get a Vahi in set form in Bionicle G2?
dviddy replied to fishers64's topic in Bionicle Discussion
To be fair, I'm pretty sure the phrasing was "half a mask" and then "we'll have a whole mask". Which is a pretty strong difference, and one of the major reasons I'm disinclined to believe any of the various vahi-reboot-connections going around. It's simply not in the wording. -
New Mumford & Sons
dviddy commented on Ta-metru_defender's blog entry in TMD's Creatively Named Blog
I'll be honest, it was a bit of a let down for me. The big, bombastic voice combined with the weird alt-folk-rock sound is what really sold me on the band. The new song sounds so weirdly generic. -
See you in a few days! It'll be fun!

We thought about it once. But it took us 27 hours to get here by car, and granted that was with a trailer and a speed limit we couldn't break because we were towing a car, I don't want to drive that much again. Besides, Maddison needs the car for work, since she's not going.

So I fly out for Portland (still weird to say that) Thursday pretty early, and I'm stoked. Let's do this. I'm bringing more MOCs than I've ever brought to a convention before, which is crazy, because I felt like I had a ton of MOCs at BrickfairVA, but this is somehow even more (at least six more?) I'm ready to be back home for a few days and to eat all the food I miss and see the sights and the people I miss. My old store is the one nearest the convention center too, so I'm excited to spend some time with my old co-workers too. It won't be perfect, since not everyone who should go, can go, but we will make the best out of it!

Changed my location on my profile on most of my sites to "Escondido, California" today. We have an apartment, wifi, jobs, accounts with the local power company, etc. And now it's all verified on social media and message boards too. I guess we really do live here now.

This stuff is brilliant. I have to say, I really enjoy the stuff you've been saying about canon on the various BIONICLE fan hangouts. G2 is a cosmic shift for the line but also for the fanbase, and it's very cool to see so many people really digging into these things.

This is so dumb but I desperately want to go down to the Fashion Valley LEGO store and buy a few cheap sets and get some Hero Packs even though I already have dozens of those orange masks. I just want the stickers and I want the map and I just like getting the polybag. Curse the weird collector impulse.

THEORY: Plausible connection between Bionicle G1 and G2!
dviddy replied to Lyichir's topic in Bionicle Storyline & Theories
I mean, I follow only two or three of them, and I'm just aware of others because of aggregate news sites I follow. But I mean, the Spider-Man movies alone are a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR franchise. There's no way you've gone through life just completely unaware of it entirely whilst living in a first-world country. -
THEORY: Plausible connection between Bionicle G1 and G2!
dviddy replied to Lyichir's topic in Bionicle Storyline & Theories
In just the last ten to fifteen years we have had major media franchises reboot: - The Spider-Man films (Raimi's to the Amazing franchise and now to a Marvel/Sony hybrid) - The Superman film franchise - The Batman film franchise - Spider-Man has had four different cartoon reboots - DC's entire comic lineup was rebooted to the New 52 - We're on what, four different Transformers reboots? - The Ninja Turltles have had two cartoons, two movies, and all are in separate continuities - There's a Ghost Busters reboot potentially coming out in a few years - Godzilla reboot - The new Planet of the Apes films - Robocop - Jude Dredd - The Sonic comics just rebooted - X-Men has had three cartoons all in separate continuities - My Little Pony - The new Thundercats - Even the Smurfs! - Sailor Moon All of these are disconnected from the original or prior series, and share themes, characters, and ideas from their predecessors the same way BIONICLE2015 has from the original. The term "reboot" has a meaning in media and franchise discussions, and it is only in this fandom specifically that I have ever seen anyone dispute what "reboot" means. Every other franchise's fandoms seem to get it, but BIONICLE fans' collective obsession with eradicating every minutiae of ambiguity or "fuzziness" has led to made up terms and redefined words others wouldn't understand. If I asked Transformer fans what "kind of reboot" their new series is, they'd just stare blankly (or answer "one that is destroying my childhood!" but that's a different conversation entirely!) As for "what kind of speculation" the TLG team at NYCC could have been referring to... I mean, really? Let's look at that logically. He follows that with "it's a reboot" which must mean the answer to the speculation and debate was whether or not the storyline was a reboot. It is! Major franchises, especially toylines (so basically, Hasbro), do this all the time. I just think the "ambiguity" is wishful thinking mixed with the toxic mindset G1 has left lingering over the fanbase where every word and sentence has to be dissected to find the "real meaning" behind it to support some complicated theory. -
THEORY: Plausible connection between Bionicle G1 and G2!
dviddy replied to Lyichir's topic in Bionicle Storyline & Theories
*Lego employee stands up at microphone* "Hello everyone, we'd just like to tell you that the Bionicle story that started in 2015 is a full reboot and is not connected to any previous Bionicle story in any way whatsoever. Thank you, and good night." Instead they leave the whole thing ambiguous, and throw some really weird nonsense to an unreliable news source that suggests a connection. I'd call that suspicious. I am just baffled that "you can stop the speculation and the theories, it is a reboot" is somehow an ambiguous thing to say. -
I don't know. I'm having a hard time adjusting to this new life, and it's taking a bit of a toll on my sense of... I don't even know? In theory, everything here should have been a great move: better weather, better pay, a car for the two of us, a new career for Maddison, LEGOLAND trips, discounted LEGO purchases, a major metropolitan area to play around in, the beach, food, etc. But it just doesn't feel right so far. My new store sucks, and as dumb of a job as "Starbucks management" is, it's where I'm at while I pay off my bills and then finish school for my real desire, and it's a job I'm incredibly good at, and one I actually enjoy immensely, which is more than I can say for the high-paying jobs several of my university friends have. But this new store is miserable. Anyone following me on Twitter (and if you don't like language you shouldn't) has probably seen the frustration bubble over, but the entire thing is just... It's a mess. It's a chore. I wake up and I hate going to work. But it pays well, and there is supposed to be a promotion spot for me in the coming months too. But I just don't know if I can make it that far? I'd try to jump ship to LEGOLAND with Maddison, but because she works there, I am unable to pursue a job at the model shop by default, and I don't think I'd want to anyway? System bricks are fun and all, but they're not my passion. I don't know. Random late-night life update. Since we finally have an apartment and internet in it. I'm assuming things get better from here.

I thought a Link Between Worlds was fairly boring and substandard. I had a hard time getting involved in the game and I don't think I've finished it yet, actually. Whereas OoT, Wind Waker, and Majora's Mask all captivated me from beginning to end. Wind Waker remains my favourite, though obviously with the 2DS limitation, is not an option.

Seriously though this is business as usual. Polls are never on time.
