  1. I just got back into MOCing recently (a couple of months ago) and I decided to make a big, lumbering titan from my dark blue elements. This big guy's a couple of months old, but I wanted to show something off while I finish working on some of my '03-era MOCs (attempting to make some of the items seen in MNOG and MNOG II for an animation project). Qhonzhak Qhonzhak is an ancient being from the early days of the Matoran Universe with the unique ability to absorb the powers of Kanohi masks. Full body shot Poster shot From behind From left Leg detail Head detail Chest detail Biography Qhonzhak was an early attempt by the Hand of Artahka to create a living being, in the hope that it might join the organisation. Qhonzhak did not and, hating his creators, fled to a desert in the south of the Matoran Universe, and built a fortress called Xainoqan. The Kanohi he had been given originally as an Avato (a Great Mask of Imprisonment) and he quickly discovered that he could drain a mask’s power and keep it within himself. A group of Toa soon came to the desert, following the legend of a mystical gemstone, but Qhonzhak imprisoned them all and took their masks, adding their power to his own. The Toa remained trapped in his fortress in various, imaginative prisons until Qhonzhak decided to test the powers of a Mask of Aging on them. At some point, the Brotherhood of Makuta sent two Makuta to assassinate Qhonzhak, but he killed them and added their masks - a Jutlin, a Crast and a Havza - to his collection of abilities. The Order of Mata Nui also tried to eliminate Qhonzhak, providing him with a Kualsi and a Mask of Atomic Vision. The latter greatly aided Qhonzhak when he came to expanding his fortress and strengthening its defences. For thousands of years, Qhonzhak collected the masks of any foolish beings who entered Xainoqan or the land around it, imprisoning many of them in his fortress with the power of his Avato, which never even began to fade. After acquiring a Mask of Mutation, Qhonzhak briefly left his desert for an island many days to the north, where he kidnapped a group of Matoran and their Toa protectors. Back in Xainoqan, he first took their Kanohi and then began experimenting with his new mutation powers, transforming all of his new prisoners into hideous beasts and unleashing those that survived his experiments into the desert. When the Matoran Universe was destroyed, Qhonzhak was seen on the surface of Spherus Magna collecting the masks of any fallen warriors from the Battle of Bara Magna, before heading north in the direction of the Black Spike Mountains. Here he began to build a new fortress, also dubbed Xainoqan though much smaller and hidden in the side of one of the mountains. He then began to study the Kanohi he had collected, deciding which ones to drain first. Abilities and TraitsBelieving that he was intentionally created to be ‘imperfect’, Qhonzhak resents his creators and any being who represents his idea of a perfect or near-perfect form, namely Matoran and Toa. Over the milennia, his psyche has become warped by this resentment to the point where he has become unknowingly sadistic in the use of his powers, which he does to entertain himself. He has never met another being with whom he truly identifies. It is possible that if he did, he might slowly lose his cruel edge. All attempts by various parties at rehabilitating Qhonzhak have failed, and as such he presents a great threat to Spherus Magna. Ghonzhak possesses the unique ability to drain a Kanohi mask of its power and retain it. For instance, draining a Kanohi Rau would give him knowledge of all languages. He can drain an infinite number of Kanohi, though after tens of thousands of years they may start to fade, especially if the Kanohi was Noble, and he will have to find a similar mask or a copy to drain that and maintain its power. To date, he is known to have drained a Mask of Aging, a Mask of Atomic Vision, an Avato, an Avsa, a Calix, a Crast, an Eliki, a Faxon, a Garai, a Mask of Growth, a Hau, a Havza (the Great Mask of Crushing Gravity), an Iden, an Ilyla (the Great Mask of Memory Theft), a Mask of Incomprehension, a Jutlin, a Kadin, a Kakama, a Komau, a Kualsi, a Mask of Laser Vision, a Mahiki, a Matatu, a Mohtrek, a Mask of Mutation, a Pakari, a Pekhui, a Mask of Psychometry, a Rode, a Sanok, a Shelek, a Mask of Stasis, a Tryna, a Vehlt (the Great Mask of Binding) and a Zatth. Even without absorbing the power of a Kanohi Pakari, Qhonzhak is very strong, able to lift many times his own weight. -------------------------------------------------- Yeah, he's kind of overpowered, but that was the point. I wanted to make something that was big but I bit odd-lookin', so I tried to give him a hunched-back, and overly-meaty legs. The mask is simple, but I really like the '08 Kaukau (annoyingly, that's the only element from the set that I own). To be honest there are a lot of things wrong with him, but I'm still quite pleased with how he turned out, considering I hadn't built a BIONICLE in two years at this point.
  2. This is a great set of Matoran MOCs. Taipu and Tamaru are easily my favourites.
  3. These are incredible! The way you've meshed system and technic is awesomesauce. I think my favourite element here is the mouth, with its blue side-pincer-things, but the cockpit is also excellent. BTW Tahnok Va has always been one of my favourite sets, and you've done it justice X10!
  4. Nice way of using the blue pins to your advantage; the colours work well. Breez's helmet looks epic on it, too.
  5. Doesn't really halt the hype train. Greg's just explaining why he can't say anything. I also find it annoying when people expect Greg to answer questions that he can't, like this one.
  6. The first Av-Matoran, and indeed the first ever Matoran no less! My mind was completely blown when I found that out, although I'm not sure which book or comic BS01 is referencing.
  7. Okay then, doodleloot, I won't! Thanks for the responses, guys. I'm going to try to build an equivalent, from the instructions Piruk-MRFFB posted, but if that fails I may buy a bunch of torso and waist pieces and dye them the way the video shows. Thanks for the help!
  8. Yeah, I was aware of those, hence the 'and/or' in black, but unfortunately the waist piece doesn't come in black. What I really need is to find a way of building something that looks similar and will fit with those pieces.
  9. Thanks for the responses - I have come up with a building solution! Back in 03, there was that wave of Matoran Kohlii player sets, but only Ga-, Ko-, Po- and, in the Titan wave, Ta-Matoran were actually released, leaving the Le- and Onu-Matoran to sit in a corner and feel sorry for themselves. I've checked and the following pieces don't come in the correct green, and/or in black: the upper leg connector, the waist, and the torso. Safe to say that at first look, it seems difficult to impossible to build Le- or Onu-Matoran, which is a shame as an animation project I may take on has Nuparu and possibly Onepu and Tamaru as characters. I don't mind rewriting, but it would be nice to include these characters. So, does anyone know of any alternatives to these pieces? Any other ways of building 03-style Le- and Onu-Matoran? I know the most obvious answer is probably to buy a bulk of these bricks and paint them the correct colours (any suggestions for which paints to use?) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  10. He could mean a generic issue 1 for a new theme, but this seems very specific, considering 2007/8 in the question are clearly referring to BIONICLE. I wouldn't read too much into this, though, as it may just be a slip of the tongue, though it may equally be him accidentally letting slip about The Return.
  11. None of that is what made it great to begin with, though; vehicles didn't appear until 2002 with the boxor, mounts until 2004 with Toa Lhikan and the Kikanalo, and none of the launchers you mentioned pre-date 2008. What made it great is subjective, of course, but I should think such a thing would have been present from the beginning. The Midak Skyblaster especially I can't understand the nostalgia for; it was a big hunk of plastic practically half a foot long that could hardly be used for anything besides terrorizing children. Just 'coz some stuff came later than 01 doesn't mean it's not what made BIONICLE great to some people. The Boxor was one of my first sets, and the Kikanalo set was (and still is) one of my favourites, so arguably for me they are part of what made BIONICLE sets great.
  12. Nova Orbis is a pretty good, uncomplicated fan continuation.
  13. Looking fantastic! I'm going to need to earn some more money before the Kickstarter begins as I really want to be able to show my support for this.
  14. Darn! Why did I never think of that?
  15. I just checked the list again, and my name doesn't appear to be on the register of participants, nor has the button that says "$1.00 to enter' changed to say that I'm entering. Should I speak to Dimensioneer, or can I just not see myself because the list is only of other participants? Is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and sorry to double post.
  16. ...because we weren't ready to show anything. Yes we were disorganised, but we were a fan project and ultimately had no obligation to anyone to be doing any of that work, so it was (and to a degree still is) erksome that some people got annoyed with us for the speed we were producing content at. If we'd succeeded, then people would have something to celebrate and enjoy. If we failed, as we did, then surely no harm done and the community has lost nothing? But some people didn't see it that way. Anyway, I agree with Aanchir to an extent; if they're that good a trickster, then there's no shame in being tricked. If this is a hoax it's a very good, very well-planned one. I do think, though, that it is also a little cruel to get people's hopes up like this. So basically, I'm torn.
  17. Wouldn't it be great if we finally got Shadow Toa Ahkmou? That'd be awesome. I also want some Bo-, Vo-, Su- and Ba-Matoran to get sets (for the Ba-Matoran, mainly for their purple pieces - purple Miru, anyone?).
  18. I've never played Minecraft, and as good as I'm sure it is, I don't have the time to get into it right now. Personally, I'd rather it not be what's in the Mystery Box, though it does seem likely. When does the Mystery Box get revealed?
  19. I never knew there were Galidor sets until after the line was discontinued, but I absolutely loved the TV show. I now have the sudden urge to rewatch it.
  20. I'm not sure I'd want another Makuta villain, since no Makuta will ever be as much of a boss as Teridax. Teridax was Iago, Darkseid, Palpatine and Hades all rolled into one, and if BIONICLE does ever come back it'll be difficult to find a villain who's as captivating as him. That said, an entirely new, creative villain is top of my list of wantz. Neither do I. If there was going to be an evil Toa I'd want it to be a new character, who's intended to be evil from the start, or a retconned Tuyet (as good a character as she was at times, the complex 'alive-dead-alive-multiverse' thing was kind of annoying, especially bearing in mind that I have an allergic reaction whenever anyone mentions Crisis on Infinite Earths). A heel-face turn from any of the Toa so far would feel forced, and personally it'd sour a lot of what they've done in the past. Besides, aside from the Empire universe where everything's crazily different, the Toa Nuva/Mahri/Norik's Hagah etc have no reason to turn to the Dark Side, so it wouldn't make sense. Sure you can't post it, MetaToa?
  21. Vakama, hands down. Wise but strong, a great leader (eventually), who still has both fighting spirit and a sense of humour.
  22. I think it will be the [bones: potential leaked content removed (even if you used just synonyms, it's still making it clear, sorry)]. In all seriousness, as cool as Marendar could be, I try to forget about the serials after Journey's End, since they never really added anything to the overall story (or at least nothing interesting, IMO). I'd like to think that there'll be a new villain, with a new set of motives, unlike anything we've seen before, who'll be well suited for whatever story BIONICLE potentially one day comes back as. An evil Toa as the main villain, posing as a Makuta, could be an interesting twist.
  23. I always thought it was because the sets got revealed long before the movie was released, and they didn't want to spoil that Takua became the Toa of Light.
