  1. Hi there BZPower members! So in November of last year I posted my first versions of the BIONICLE movies upscaled, and many of you enjoyed them. Well, I have the latest, final (February 2017) versions out now, in both the 16:9 Aspect Ratio and a Widescreen format. I hope you enjoy the remasters of all three films! If you'd like, please discuss below your thoughts about the latest versions. Thanks again for reading this post! -KopakaFan116 (Krexa Prime on YT) BIONICLE 2: Legends of Metru Nui https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFwpcArl7IE&index=3&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBSF_N9O7NA&index=2&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8wIVmd9fEnOXy5wmIkF3qQp BIONICLE 3: Web of Shadows (Widescreen): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttn0Rnkmydo&index=4&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7 (Original 16:9 Aspect Ratio): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqtZYxPhaMQ&index=3&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8wIVmd9fEnOXy5wmIkF3qQp BIONICLE: Mask of Light (Widescreen): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_E2ndPgTLY&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7 (Original 16:9 Aspect Ratio): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaZXu1Nqavs&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8wIVmd9fEnOXy5wmIkF3qQp BIONICLE: Mask of Light - Extended Ending Remaster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udseVTN-DMc&index=2&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7
  2. Some artwork, a lot of theorizing, and a big essay... basically, this is my distilled thoughts on how a Toa (or more likely a Matoran, but I used my Toa Lis as a model) would be built. Enjoy. -- 1 – The Frame One starts with the frame: the bare skeleton. Toa and Matoran bones are inorganic, made of metal. Compared to a human skeleton, several major differences are apparent: first, Toa lack a ribcage or similar structure, featuring only a sternum with hole in the middle for the fitting of the heartlight. The second is the structure of the spine; a spine is the core of a Toa or Matoran’s body, composed of ten tubular sections (vertebrae) connected by ball joints. Each vertebra is fitted with a large metal ring; these rings will form the outer frame of the spinal assembly later on. The #1, #4, #7, and #10 vertebrae (counting from the top) are of particular interest: #1 is bolted to the base of the skull (and hidden by the skull from most angles), #4 is fitted with hinges to which the shoulder cups attach and two rings that wrap around the shoulder cups to connect to the top of the sternum, #7 is fitted with a small inner ring for the spinal assembly and a large outer ring that connects to the base of the sternum, and #10 is significantly wider than the others and connects to the hip assembly. The spine, though strong, is extraordinarily flexible; when not fitted with dampening pistons or other obstructions in the waist area, a Toa or Matoran can turn their upper body just over 90 degrees to the left and right without moving their hips at all. Besides featuring prominently in the spine, ball joints are also used in the shoulders, hips, and in the fitting of the hands and feet, enabling a wide range of movement for the limbs. The knees and elbows use simpler hinge joints. Both hands and feet only consist of a core piece at this point: the palm for the hands and the heel for the feet, still lacking digits. Though the limbs are nearly identical in construction in everything other than scale and appendage, of note is that the lower leg construction features an additional two bones. These are usually not load-bearing, but serve to limit the range of movement of the feet to prevent injury of the ankle joints. Some Toa will have a similar assembly fitted to their lower arms to bolster the wrist joints for use of heavy weapons, but this not included in the standard build. Proportions can vary based on need as well; Toa of Earth are routinely constructed with larger upper bodies and arms to help in digging, while Toa of Water are made slightly slimmer in the shoulder area and with stronger legs to be more streamlined and powerful swimmers (coincidentally mimicking the body proportions of a female Glatorian to some degree; it has been speculated that this resemblance led the great beings to make Toa and Matoran of water female). Also notable are the ‘nodes’ fitted on key points of all the bones: these are anchor points for the reservoirs and muscle strands to be attached later on. They also feature conduits leading into the hollow center-section of each bone; a Toa’s circulatory system, which provides both nutrients and oxygen to the muscle strands and reservoirs, is internal to their skeleton. Before the frame is fitted with reservoirs and muscle strands, the flexible tubes that connect these hollow sections through the joints to produce a water-tight circulatory system are also the only thing that holds it all together. Nerve strands, thin copper wires connected to the brain that can carry electrical signals that tell muscle strands to contract, are also fitted internally with these tubes. By nature, most of the nodes are found close to the joints that the muscle strands they will feed need to move. Lastly, the skull is constructed of several pieces: the braincase, an upper and lower jaw, a hinge to connect the two, and a reinforcing structure. The braincase is boxy in shape, features two holes in the front for the eyes, and is connected to the #1 vertebra at the lower back, becoming the base for the whole skull in the process. The upper jaw and hinge are fitted straight to brackets incorporated into the bottom of the brain case, with the lower jaw fitted to the hinge in turn. The reinforcing structure consists of thicker metal plates that are fitted around the eye sockets and forehead. It features connection points for a kanohi and is designed to absorb most of the impact of any blow to the head through these points. Lastly, the jaws are fitted with teeth. Toa and Matoran only need to eat rarely if they have access to a regular electrical (or rarely elemental) recharge point; eating more often makes the teeth prone to corrosion, making periodic re-fitting and polishing a necessity. Due to this additional maintenance, Toa, Matoran, and other beings in the Matoran Universe with the exception of the Skakdi disliked eating. 2 – Core Organs and Brain The organs needed to keep both the electrical and organic parts of the body working are fitted next. First comes the completion of the spine assembly: a single digestive tract, running from the back of the mouth to the base of the spine, is fitted anterior to the spine. Once the Toa or Matoran is activated, the tract will partially fill with a highly acidic substance capable of breaking down any organic material and a fair number of metals, too, turning them into a slurry of organic molecules that, when diluted into the bloodstream, drives the healing and refreshing of both muscle strands and reservoirs. Metals are broken down into microscopic fragments that remain suspended in the bloodstream until they are needed to fix a broken bone. Though it has an entrance in the mouth, the digestive tract of a Toa, Matoran, or many other related beings in the Matoran Universe does not have an exit; in the event that a Toa consumes something that they cannot digest (even though they have, on average, a month between meals to do so), the only way that they can get rid of it is to vomit it back up. A reservoir is wrapped around the digestive tract and spinal column, filling the rest of the space between them and the spinal assembly’s outer rings and insulating both from extreme temperatures. Lastly, a thick fabric composed of layers upon layers of thin, bare muscle strands known as flexweave is stretched between the rings and attached to their insides to both cover and protect everything within the spinal assembly and to make the assembly mobile; the final result can move like a snake but is more rigid to support the weight of everything attached around the chest and shoulder area. Since spinal assembly, when completed, is able to take in energy through the digestive tract and store it in the reservoir and the flexweave can absorb oxygen from air, a Toa head and spinal assembly can be kept alive entirely on their own without anything else attached if need be (pit mutagen reduced the Piraka to nothing but their heads and spines, and they still lived by the same mechanism). Once the spinal assembly is completed, a respiration system is fitted between the sternum and the spinal assembly. Its core is the heart pump, fitted right behind the sternum for protection. It pumps blood from the circulatory system through the air exchangers, oxygenizing it to supply all the organic components of the Toa’s body. Fitted with the pump is the heartlight, which indicates the pump is running by pulsing at a rate proportional to the pump’s current RPM. An irregular or absent beat of the heartlight therefore indicates problems with the pump, which need to be addressed quickly; if the pump stops, so does the oxygen supply to the reservoirs and the muscle strands, rendering a Toa immobile within about two hours (even then, it would likely take at least a week before they would die by dehydration or even longer by starvation). The air exchangers fill most of the chest and look like sacs of a tightly woven, metallic fabric, but inside they look more like radiators, filled with permeable blood vessels that absorb oxygen from the air into the bloodstream while expelling gaseous or liquid waste from the muscle strands as vapor. They incorporate muscle strands that alternately contract the top and bottom of the air exhangers, pumping fresh air through them and allowing the Toa to breathe. Since the only way to fit them is through the back of the skull, a Toa’s eyes are fitted into their head before their brain is. The eyes are intricate cameras, assembled as units that contain an adjustable lens for focus and very limited telescopic vision and are fitted inside of a thin, spherical protective casing. Small muscle strands stretched between this casing and nodes on the inside of the skull allow the eyes to move and point in different directions, though they usually move in tandem. After the eyes are fitted, the brain follows. A Toa’s brain is a very pure crystal, whose atoms or molecules make up a matrix that works like a neural network, receiving, processing, and sending out electrical pulses. It’s got contact nodes on the front that connect to the eyes and a large one on its base that connects with the neural network and a power cable coming up from the spinal assembly. Rubber or similar shock absorbers are fitted between the brain and its case to ensure a blow to the case does not damage the hard but brittle brain. Also fitted on the head is a lower facial cover; a thin metal structure that fits tightly around the jaw assembly and incorporates a thick protective ring around the mouth. It also incorporates a set of thin metal plates that close to form a mouth in front of the teeth and can be bent by muscles behind them to allow the mouth to make some simple expressions. The lower facial cover prevents scraps of food from spilling out of the mouth when the Toa eats something, and two cylindrical extrusions on the side that fit over the jaw hinge of the skull and are tipped with additional connection points for kanohi. Deeper in the throat, the facial cover also includes several thick, stretchy filaments whose tension and position can be controlled by small muscle strands. When air is blown over them, these strands vibrate and produce sound, becoming vocal cords. Lastly, the frame structure is completed with the addition of digits to the hands and feet. A standard Toa’s hands have four fingers and a thumb, though the fingers can be paired by extensions to produce two larger, stronger fingers at the expense of dexterity, such as was done with Onua Mata’s hands to turn them into very effective clawed shovels. By the same token, the fingers of a Toa of Air are usually longer and naturally curved as to grasp branches and climb more easily. Matoran usually have three or two fingers, with similar tribal variations. Standard Toa and Matoran feet have two large toes that articulate individually, allowing them to clasp onto uneven terrain features to a limited degree. Again, though, there is room for modification based on need, and most Toa armor includes heavy-tipped boots that greatly limit the articulation of their toes to offer better protection. Both the fingers and toes resemble a miniature version of the core structure of the spine and are articulated by flexweave contained within their segments. 3 – Insulation, Energy Storage, and V-Bands Though fairly resilient, the air exchangers and heart pump function best when kept within a reasonable temperature range and free of dust. To keep them working optimally, then, a the chest must be sealed. On the surface, this is done through a fine metal mesh stretched from the upper ring from the #4 vertebra to the larger ring of the #7 vertebra. The mesh is strong enough to offer some protection and is lined with a film on the inside to keep out dust, but it does little to insulate from heat: for this, bladders of battery gel called reservoirs are used. Battery gel is a gelatinous, organic substance capable of absorbing and storing tremendous amounts of heat, making it an excellent thermal regulator. It can also store a great electrical charge, allowing it to function as a battery to run the Toa’s heart pump and brain and giving the substance its name. Battery gel tends to liquefy in contact with air or metal, however, and is therefore contained in tough, flexible bladders called reservoirs (also made of organic materials) that are fitted all over the body. The largest reservoir on the body is fitted to the base of the skull and drapes out over the shoulders to cover most of the chest area and down to a similar position on the back. It encases the ball joints of the shoulders, releasing and sealing a lubricant into them to keep them from seizing and over the bones of the arms to keep the blood inside them from boiling or freezing in extreme temperatures. The nodules still poke through it, however, to allow attachment of the muscle strands over the top of it. The second largest reservoir is fitted around the Toa’s hips, encasing the hip joints, the bones in the thighs, and the lower legs down to the ankles. Together, these two main reservoirs store a significant amount of electrical energy, organic molecules to fuel the automatic maintenance and repair of muscle strands, and keep the core structure at working temperature. Below the surface, there are three additional reservoirs that serve a more special purpose. The first, already mentioned, is fitted around the spine and digestive tract inside the spinal assembly, serving mostly as a store for organic molecules produced by the breaking down of food in the digestive tract, a battery for the brain, supplier of lubricant to the spine, and as insulation for the digestive tract and spine. The second is fitted below the heart pump and air exchangers and completely plugs the gap between the spinal assembly and the larger ring of the #7 vertebra, sealing the chest cavity completely from the outside world in the process. Though small in surface area, it is thick in volume and serves as the primary battery for the heart pump. The third and smallest of the reservoirs is fitted inside the cylindrical extrusions of the lower facial cover; it lubricates the jaw hinge and services the otherwise difficult-to-get to muscle strands that articulate the jaw. The elaborate shape of the reservoirs and the area that they cover may lead one to believe that they are excessively difficult to apply and vulnerable to damage. Neither of these assumptions is true due to a particular property of the material that the reservoirs themselves are made of: their ‘skin’ is self-sealing. True, a piercing of a reservoir will lead to some battery gel leaking out, but the fissure will rapidly close as chemical bonding of the skin pulls its sides closely together and fuses them. This property also makes application of the reservoirs easy; for example, the largest reservoir, that covering the upper torso, neck, and arms, is in fact a composite of seven smaller reservoirs that, having been in contact for an extended period of time, have fused together by the same mechanism that allows them to seal punctures to form one cohesive cover over the entire top of the body. Waiting for these reservoirs to fuse is the longest ‘dead time’ that is usually taken during the construction of a Matoran or Toa, as it takes about a week to naturally complete. When all the reservoirs are in place (but not yet fused), two metal bands are fitted to the body. Often called V-bands for their shape when viewed from the front, one is fitted to the base of the neck and another around the hips. The bands are thick enough to serve as some armor for these particularly vulnerable areas, but their primary function is to serve as anchor points and guides for the muscle strands that will be stretched through underneath them. Their location is therefore significant; the upper V-band separates the neck from the torso, allowing muscle strands in that area to remain more tightly packed for both insulation and protection, and the lower V-band does the same for the legs, allowing many muscles to be tightly packed around the hips without them interfering with each other. To those familiar with the construction of a Matoran body, the shape of the V-band is a good indicator of a gender: from the front, it’s more V-shaped on female and T-shaped on male bodies. Unlike the Glatorian on which their body layout was originally based, however, neither Toa nor Matoran actually have any practical reason for wearing bands of a particular shape; these shapes are, in effect, a kind of evolutionary holdover from a previous iteration of their design. Lastly, thin, concave metal lids are fitted on the eyes to work as eyelids and provide protection to the eyes when shut. 4 – Muscles With all supply mechanisms for them in place, the muscle strands can be attached. Their layout roughly follows that of the human body, but with some notable differences. First, Toa and Matoran possess nowhere near the complex array of facial muscles that humans do, instead leaving the skull and the lower face cover mostly bare. The exception lies in some intricate work done around the eyes, where small muscles can produce a significant number of expressions. Secondly, no muscle strands cover the waist, since its movement is already taken care of by the spinal assembly and its flexweave. Some strands are added around the neck to more adequately support the head (kanohi, being made of metal, aren’t exactly lightweight), but the majority of strands are used primarily to animate the limbs, which are practically coated in full length. The strands covering the chest and those following a similar pattern around the back are used to adjust the shoulders and hence improve the movement range of the arms. Small muscle strains are added on the inside of the fingers and toes as well, to provide the directed strength needed for a good grip that the flexweave alone cannot provide. As with the base frame, muscle strand layout can be varied depending on the type of Toa or Matoran that is being produced. The standard model, for example, employs ‘double-stranding,’ the fitting of two large strands from the same node on top of each other as opposed to using just one, only in the legs to allow great jumping and climbing ability, but Toa and Matoran of Earth employ it in their arms and chest area as well to provide tremendous upper body strength at the expense of greater energy consumption. In fact, any Toa or Matoran can, by adding or removing strands (up to triple layering is possible, and more with modifications to the nodes) greatly customize their strength and how they can best apply it, balancing strength in the right areas for their weapon, for example, with moderating the stress that running more strands places on their heart pump, air exchangers, and the rest of their circulatory system. For example, Toa of Water often triple-layer their legs to allow them to produce great bursts of speed underwater with fin-like appendages on their feet. The muscle strands themselves consist of fibrous organic material stretched between two node connectors and wrapped in the same material that lines the inside of the chest cavity to keep out dust. Each muscle strand is a self-contained unit that is supplied entirely through the nodes, making replacement a relatively easy job. Injured strands do slowly heal, but as with parts of a Toa’s body, it is best to replace one if it has sustained significant damage rather than wait for it to fix itself. Unless they are completely cut in half, even severely damaged muscle strands can be hooked up to a node in a refurbishing station and allowed to heal by themselves and later be offered as a replacement to someone else; a form of body-part recycling. It should be noted that, apart from the addition of a Kanohi mask, a Toa’s body is at this point functionally complete. In fact, without the weight and constraints on movement that armor adds, Toa are especially strong and agile and many habitually wear only their torso armor unless they expect to enter a combat scenario at some point soon. However, as their intended occupation was the defense of the Matoran, their bodies were explicitly designed with clearance for armor in mind; even when triple-layered with muscle strands, large gaps between a Toa’s thighs and between their torso and arms allow for the application of significant amounts of armor without causing the body parts to start interfering with each other’s range of movement. 5 – Armor To a large degree for Toa and to some degree for Matoran, armor follows a set template. Armor around the chest area is worn full-time by all as it compensates for the lack of an internal ribcage, protecting the vital air exchangers and heart pump. Matoran usually wear armored boots and protection for their shins and lower arms as well, since those are areas that are both relatively vulnerable to begin with and most likely to be subjected to damage over the course of daily work or travel. Whether to wear shoulder armor is usually a personal preference thing for the Matoran (though it is popular with Onu-Matoran in particular), and only Fe-Matoran take it further by fitting plates over their thighs and upper arms. A fully-equipped Toa will usually have all these armor pieces and in greater thickness than Matoran have. Some also use small interlocking plates to cover and protect their throats. While armor on the limbs usually consists of simple (if decorated) hinged tubes that can be locked around part of a limb, torso armor is a lot more involved to make and personalized the owner, even if the owner is a Matoran. For Toa, the weight of their armor and the whole upper body structure does mean that the spinal assembly has to work hard to hold the whole body upright, however. Because of this, torso armor worn by Toa usually incorporates at least two dampening pistons in the waist area, which help to stabilize the upper body, carry the weight of the armor, and hence reduce the stress on the spinal assembly at the expense of some flexibility in the torso. Toa with particularly heavy upper-body structures, like Toa of Earth, often use at least four of dampening pistons full-time to avoid back problems, but for most two is enough and they only use them when fully kitted up for war; when not carrying full armor and a heavy weapon around, their spinal assembly manages fine on its own. The last thing to be added and usually the trigger for a Matoran or Toa’s activation is their kanohi. Though it is known that Matoran without kanohi will weaken and slip into a coma and Toa without kanohi will become exceedingly weak, the method by which the kanohi achieves this is not well understood. Theories abound, and most postulate that some interaction between the brain and the kanohi provides the strengthening effect by turning the kanohi into some kind of magnetic dome capable of amplifying the brain’s signals to where they are strong enough to actually control the body. Evidence for these theories lies in the fact that the material that kanohi are made of has strong magnetic properties and that the attachment points for the mask can induce a current into the kanohi. Inducing a current into the kanohi (or perhaps intensifying it) is also the way to activate the runes, usually carved on the inside, that provide the kanohi with their power. A notable difference between kanohi produced before and after the Reformation can be found in their mouths: pre-reformation kanohi are often fitted with slats or louvres that cover the mouth completely for additional protection, while still allowing the wearer to breathe through them. These structures were usually removable to allow the wearer to eat when required, but since that was at worst a monthly occurrence and sustenance could just as easily be gotten through charging points, most used these covers full-time. However, in the aftermath of the battle between Mata Nui and Teridax, the Matoran Universe suffered a complete loss of power and hence charging points could no longer be used; Toa, Matoran, and a host of other beings had to turn food for all their nourishment, making the covers more trouble than they were worth. Maintenance issues with teeth due to the major dietary changes were eventually resolved by coating the teeth in a tough, enamel-like substance already long in use by the Skakdi, and before long eating became a less disliked activity for the Matoran Universe’s former residents. Though Spherus Magna now does have an electrical infrastructure capable of supporting a large number of charging points, Matoran society at large now has little reason to build or use them. -- Full Sequence: What do you think? I'd particularly like to know what the discrepancies with what is known canonically about producing these beings... I don't know much about it myself.
  3. Well it's been a while since I've posted a MOC on here now hasn't it. I guess multiple factors contributed to this like school and sudden lack of interest in MOCing caused me to take a little bit of a hiatus. But now I'm back, with an actual self MOC, a background and a new camera I got for Christmas. First off, here's what the first version of this guy looked (keep in mind this isn't the actual MOC of this topic): https://flic.kr/p/JwyJSU Now here's what he looks like currently: https://flic.kr/p/SoTrAb Quite an upgrade, if I do say so myself. It needs someone to take care of it ... to take care of everything and everyone, from now until forever." — Karzahni to Hahli, Dark Destiny This is Karzahni, the ruler of the hellish land in Matoran Universe, and the namesake of this realm. Since the time before Time, Karzahni was tasked with repairing the Matoran sent to him from all across the Matoran Universe. At first he really tried to make a difference for the poor things, but, with time, he realized he simply can't do it. Fueled by his envy for his "brother" Artakha and the maddening visions sent by his Kanohi Mask, Karzahni have slowly deteriorated into a tyrannical sociopath, prone to sudden and radical mood swings: one moment he's soft and welcoming, and the other he bursts into a murderous rage. In the past, he wore a black and gold armor, but with time its colors changed to reflect the deterioration of his psyche. His Kanohi Olisi is the Mask of Alternate Futures. Although not inherently evil or maddening, it was used by Karzahni to show his prisoners the worst possible futures that await them to break their morale. Karzahni's tools are known as Flaming Chains, they are capable of heating up to such degree that they'll still burn even when taken underwater. The chains are also made to channel the power of Kanohi Olisi. 5. Hi, guys! Today is the first anniversary of Bionicle's Netflix show, Bionicle: The Journey to One! It was released on March 4, 2016 (Same age as a Disney movie called Zootopia, which coincidentally is about animals, like the show). The show is the first TV show that Bionicle ever had (though I don't like it being exclusive in Netflix because I don't like wasting my money for it. Why did it happen this way? Why couldn't it be in a TV channel, like Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon)? ). The show has four 22-minute main episodes, plus a shorter prologue. The show takes place in the G2 universe, as the Toa Masters became Toa Uniters to find the Elemental Creatures and the Golden Masks of Unity, so they can find the Mask of Control. However, Umarak, the main-ish antagonist in the first three main episodes and the 2016 storyline, and his Shadow Traps are sent by Makuta, G2's main antagonist, to capture the Elemental Creatures and find the Mask for him. The Toa and Umarak race each other until Umarak got the mask and turned into Makuta's Destroyer. Makuta then sent Umarak to collect the lost pieces of the destroyed Mask of Ultimate Power and use them to open a portal that can help Makuta get out of the Shadow Realm. It's up to the Toa, along with their mentor named Ekimu the Mask Maker, go to stop and fight Umarak and Makuta. The show was well-liked by many people (heard that Netflix gave it three out of five stars). I watched and liked the show. It was good, but could've been better in terms of story. I liked the animation, which is 3-D (similar to Transformers: Robots in Disguise in 2015 and Iron Man: Armor Adventures, and 3-D is more adequate to our taste to Bionicle G2 than the 2015 Online Animations, which is 2-D). It's weird that it has 2-D-like bits (similar to Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra), but it's reminds me of the Mata Nui Online Games. I also like the action, accuracy to the 2016 sets, voice acting because it's better than the 2015 Online Animations (more voice actors than one, too. Awesome!), comedy, pacing until the fourth episode, and character development. It's very sad that the show ended in the same year it was released in, along with the G2 franchise itself, and I didn't like the rushing in the end of the G2 story in there, either. But, as I said, it is a good show. Not the best Lego TV show, but, still, a good show. I loved that Bionicle has a TV show for the first time. I thought it was a good way to celebrate Bionicle's 15th anniversary. If anyone likes this show, go celebrate! What's your favorite moment in there? For me, I liked the one where Pohatu learned that he has to Unite with Ketar on important occasions the hard way, Umarak the Destroyer going Hulk on the Toa, and Lewa being a comedy relief as he always does.
  6. Hi, guys! Do you like Lego Dimensions or ever played it? Ever wished that it could have Bionicle? Well, Lego Dimensions is all about including franchises of various kinds. I know that Bionicle is not mainly a minifigure-based franchise, like Ninjago, but it had minifigures and playsets in the past, similar to Hero Factory's Invasion From Below waves in 2014. Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is that I would like to ask this: If Bionicle were to be included in Lego Dimensions, how would you like to be. Let me tell you my thoughts for example: Adventure World: A portal door thing in Vorton that leads to the Bionicle Adventure World would have the Toa Mata/Nuva/Masters/Uniters' elements making it. In the Bionicle Adventure World, you can explore the island of Mata Nui, the Matoran Universe (mainly Metru Nui, Voya Nui, Mahri Nui, and Karda Nui), Spherus Magna, and/or Okoto. In these places, you get to meet Bionicle characters who would ask you to either buy something that Lord Vortech stole to restore it or to do them a favor, so they would give you a golden Lego brick. These characters would be: 1. Matoran, Agori, Glatorian, Skrall, Okoto villager, and/or sapient Skull Creature in general - they would ask you if you can buy things that Vortech stole to give them back to the World. 3. The Turaga and Matoran of Mata Nui - ask you to go get things, like masks and the Makoki Stone, or fight enemies, like the Infected Rahi. 4. Turaga Dume and Matoran of Metru Nui - go get something, like Kanoka disks, and/or fight Vahki and/or Visorak. 5. Sidorak and Roodaka - they would ask you to capture some Toa or Matoran. 6. The Shadowed One - ask you to get the Makoki Stone, Toa, or Matoran, or help him fight the Brotherhood of Makuta's servants. 7. Matoran of Voya Nui - ask you to save their enslaved brethren or get Zamor Spheres or Energized Protodermis. 8. Zaktan - ask you to capture Matoran and get Zamor spheres or Antidermis. 9. Brutaka - ask you to get Antidermis. 10. Matoran of Mahri Nui - ask you to collect Air Bubbles or Air Launchers. 11. Kalmah - ask you to find some Sea Squids. 12. Lesovikk - ask you to help him get things to remind him of his lost Toa Team. 13. 2008 Makuta in Karda Nui - ask you to collect Matoran or Shadow Leeches. 14. Matoran of Karda Nui - ask you to collect Shadow Leeches or find other Matoran. 15. The Order of Mata Nui - ask you to find some Protosteel stuff. 16. Agori - ask you to fight in their arenas. 17. Malum - ask you to find some Vorox or Zesk. 18. Great Beings - ask you to find some materials for their creations or lost creations. 19. The Protectors from Bionicle G2 - ask you to find some lost masks or rescue their people. 20. Ekimu - ask you to find some materials for his masks or lost masks. 21. Kulta the Skull Grinder - ask you to find some masks. 22. Makuta Teridax/G2 Makuta - ask you to collect masks. Kopaka to Zane from Ninjago - "I see you have a teammate with fire powers. Do you argue with him?" "No." 6. Homer from The Simpsons to Teridax - screaming in fear. 7. Aquaman from DC Comics to Gali - "Another hero who has water powers? Splendid!" 8. Sonic the Hedgehog to Kopaka - "You're too slow, Kopaka!" "Don't say that. It annoys me." 9. Makuta Teridax to Lord Voltemort from Harry Potter - "Another master planner with dark powers? That would be very benefitical." There. You see what I mean? I know it's a lot, but Lego Dimensions is all about putting a lot of iconic stuff from a franchise that it includes. So, what about your ideas, guys? (Note: Please don't say something like "This would most likely not going to happen" or "I don't think it is most likely possible". We can just talk about how would you like Bionicle to be in Lego Dimensions if it would be included in there).
  7. Hello, everyone! FLY-2502 MOSQUID by Space Sea Inc. The "squidest" mech ever built.
  8. BS01 has been working on a very special project that we hope you'll enjoy. As a teaser, here's a quick promotional logo and an excerpt from the upcoming story. We'll have plenty more details forthcoming, so stay tuned.
  9. STORY Somewhere deep in a frozen wasteland that's name shall not be uttered, a single being sat within a shack, face obscured by the hood of their coat. "The blood has long since dried and The Gods of Hitman grow thirsty once again." The obscured figure rose from their chair, gaze drawn towards a dart board that graced the far wall. Ten photos were tacked to the board via ice pick. The figure turned away and exited the shack, their gaze not on the path before them, but on the path in their mind. "Time to do something about that thirst." And with those words uttered, the obscured figure was gone in an instant. Ten huts were robbed of their occupants that night, with the few witnesses stating they saw a whirlwind of snow surrounding the huts in the dead of night. PLAYING THE GAME What do I do in this game? In this game, you are attempting to assassinate other players. You do this by PMing me with the name of the player you are targeting. You have six weapons in your arsenal to choose from: a Knife, a Gun, Poison, an Explosive, a Sledgehammer, or Wire. In addition to your target's name, you will also PM me the weapon you will use in your assassination attempt. You are not guaranteed a kill. Different assassins have different resistances and weaknesses against different weapons. When signing up for the game, you will PM me a list of all the weapons and corresponding numerical values, like so: Knife: 1 Gun: 2 Poison: 3 Explosive: 4 Sledgehammer: 5 Wire: 6 This is your profile. It tells me which weapons you are weak against and which weapons you are strong against. The lower the number, the weaker you are to that form of attack. For example, if someone targeted you with a Wire, I would roll a die. If I rolled a number lower than 6, you would survive. If someone targeted you with Poison, I would roll a die. If I rolled a number lower than 3, you would survive. If someone targeted you with a Knife, you would die instantly, as there is no number on a die lower than 1. Rounds will take place roughly over 24-hour intervals. If you fail to send me the name of a target and a weapon of choice, you will be killed for inactivity. What happens when multiple people attack the same target? I will calculate the assassination attempts chronologically. The first person to PM me that target's name will receive 'first dibs' on the assassination attempt. If he fails, the next person will get a shot, and so on. What happens if the last two/three/etc. people all kill each other? There can only be one survivor, so if the last few assassins all kill each other I will reroll. SIGNING UP FOR THE GAME What do I need to do to be able to play? To sign up, state that you are signing up by posting in this topic, and then PM me the following list of weapons with corresponding numerical values 1-6. You choose which weapons you are resistant to and which weapons you are vulnerable to. Ensure the Subject line of your PM is "HITMAN PROFILE: (Username)" Knife: Gun: Poison: Explosive: Sledgehammer: Wire: THE "WILLING" PARTICIPANTS Eliminated targets are designated in Ice. Sign-ups shall remain open until the 10 slots are filled or 48-Hours. Whichever comes first. 1: ToaTimeLord N1 2: Trijhak (Pulse) 3: Naked Link (Luroka) N1 4: Chro N1 - My Missing Half 5: Shadow FF N2 6: Toa Smoke Monster N2 7: Shadowvezon N1 8: Breath of the Wild (Voltex) N1 9: Toru Nui 10: Papika (Blade) N1 RULES 1: All bzp rules apply. Common sense really. 2: No changing your targets. I will only accept your first target, even if you target a dead person, so be aware of whose alive and whose not. 3: There is no bias. I am literally rolling a die, or the program that simulates such. Such things are not partial. Host's Notes: So yeah... This is my first attempt at a game. I am by no means a writer, so don't expect scenes on a scale of Voltex, Pahrak or really any of the typical game hosts. This lack of experience also means there may also be some delay, either due to me having a job or writing the actual scene, though I hope I will be able to get such things done in a timely manner. Just please have patience. Also the second and third sections are shamelessly ripped from Voltex's Hitman 19 game.
  10. A special thanks to Xboxtravis, who's marvelous works blending G1 and G2 Bionicle helped inspire part of this work. You might recognize some elements from my previous G2 work Head of Stone, Heart of Jungle. EDIT: Silly me, forgot to make a review topic: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23978-review-a-lingering-shadow/ Kini Nui, the ancient City of the Mask Makers, had regained much of its lost glory since the departure of the Toa and the closing of the Shadow Realm. The majority of Okoto's inhabitants had returned and taken up residence in the city, and the efforts of their many builders and artisans had done much to heal the damage caused by centuries of neglect and various battles. On this night, fireworks lit the sky as the inhabitants did what no Okotans had done in countless ages: held a great Festival of Masks. Music echoed throughout the city and across the island as instruments of every shape and size were lifted by Okotans young and old, while the drumming of feet in dance added its own beat to the night. High above the festivities, in the building that served as both Ekimu's Forge and the Temples of both Creation and Light, the Mask Maker, the Protectors, and the archaeologist Harvali stood gathered in an ancient vault. Various artifacts and other items of importance, such as the mask of Tera* the Skull Basher, were stored in this chamber, which Ekimu usually kept locked. However, following the defeat of the Shadow Horde, he had allowed Harvali to enter the chamber and begin cataloguing various items in order to ascertain whether they might be of value to the island as a whole. Now she sat with a large, ancient volume before her, with Ekimu and the Protectors watching anxiously. "Forgive our pulling you away from the Festival, dear Protectors, but Master Ekimu and I though that you should see this. This tome was hidden in a secret alcove within this vault, which I only discovered after as Ekimu and I were having some old containers moved out for placement in the museum that once served as Ekimu's tomb. It was sealed, with instructions that it should only be opened by the Protectors and any Mask Makers who should be alive at the time that the Prophecy of Heroes should be fulfilled. Ekimu himself has never seen it, but it seems to date from the time when the Temple of Light was constructed, thus explaining how its makers could know of the prophecy." Nilkuu, Protector of Stone, raised an eyebrow. "Such an ancient book...who knows what secrets it might contain?" "That is what we intend to discover-and at my invitation, Harvali shall read from the book," Ekimu replied. "She has dedicated her life to preserving Okoto's ancient history, and I think it only fitting that she should share the contents of this volume with us. Once she has done so, we shall have a decision to make, my friends: whether or not this account should also be shared with the people of Okoto." Narmoto, Izotor, Vizuna, Kivoda, Nilkuu, and Korgot each nodded their heads, acknowledging the solemnity of the occasion. Then, at a nod from the Mask Maker, Harvali carefully opened the book to the first page. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she began. "In the time, before time..." This island, which we now call Okoto, was very different from what it is today. Its regions were not infused with the very power of the Elements themselves, and its inhabitants-who were taller than they later became-were scattered and without purpose. One day, there came among them one known as the Herald, who-through daring unmatched before or since-accomplished great feats. When his tasks were done, the Herald vanished, but there arose a mighty hero: Takanuva, the Master of Light, whose Light reached the very stars from whence all Okotans are said to have come. Thus it was that the Great Beings sent seven more heroes down from the heavens, which was said to have had a hand in the creation of our world. These heroes were Tahu, Master of Fire; Kopaka, Master of Ice; Lewa, Master of Jungle; Gali, Master of Water; Pohatu, Master of Stone; Onua, Master of Earth; and Teridax, Master of Shadows. With them, they brought the Vahi, Mask of Time, which was said to have played a role in the birth of our world. By joining their powers together, the heroes created a beautiful temple to safeguard the treasure, before creating a great labyrinth on a neighboring island to safeguard treasures too great for even the noblest of Okotans. With these tasks done, the Toa set about teaching the Okotans to harness the Elemental Powers within each of them by relying upon the masks that they wore. In time, eight tribes were formed, each possessing the power of a different element wielded by their respective Elemental Master. The Fire Tribe became renowned smiths and lava farmers, founding the fortified city of Mata Nui; the Ice Tribe built the city of Voya Nui as their observatory and repository of Okoto's legends and prophecies; and the great engineers and explorers of the Jungle Region founded Kini Nui, which they shared with the noble mask makers of the Light Tribe. Mahri Nui became the heart of the Water Tribe's enterprises, which included not only sailing and fishing but scholarship and science; the Stone Tribe's artisans raised the great city of Metru Nui, future capital of the island; the Earth Tribe's underground metropolis of Karda Nui encompassed a great museum, surrounded by miles upon miles of mines and other caverns, which for a time were also home to the Shadow Tribe. For many generations, the people of Okoto enjoyed an age of prosperity, using their Elemental Powers under the direction of their noble heroes. Unfortunately, while most of the Masters were loved by all, the fierce Teridax was feared by most Okotans outside of his own Shadow Tribe, who were themselves feared for their creation of dangerous creatures more than loved for the creation of helpful ones. In time Teridax grew jealous, and sought to claim Okoto for himself and stand as Master of All Elements; to that end, he used dark arts to craft the mighty Nui Stone, an artifact that he used to rob Tahu, Kopaka, Lewa, Gali, Pohatu, and Onua of their powers. With these energies and his own Shadow powers at his command, Teridax's victory seemed inevitable, but Takanuva was able to destroy the Nui Stone in a desperate strike. Teridax was consumed by the released energies, which created a rift in reality itself that was filled with his darkness; thus was the Shadow Realm born. Before he perished, Teridax swore that the Shadows would avenge him, and his blade fell upon the ground and was left at the site of his demise. Takanuva, fearing for the lives of his fellow Toa, sacrificed his own powers of Light to send them back to the stars. Before disappearing himself, the Toa of Light comforted the Okotans, revealing that the Toa would return again-though he did not know how they might be affected by Teridax's actions-and that the long absent Herald would make his own return prior to their coming. He also left behind his mask, the Avohkii, the finding of which had been one of the Herald's tasks. Without the Toa to guide them, the eight tribes of Okoto fell victim to suspicion and mistrust-in the case of the vengeance filled Shadow Tribe, it was well deserved. Teridax's actions prompted the passing of a sacred law barring the creation of masks containing more than a single elemental power; for some even this was not enough, and a policy of strict isolation between tribes became common. Every relation from trade to marriage between the tribes was regarded by most as an insult to the memory of the Toa and an act of worship of the fallen Teridax. Though Kini Nui remained the provision of both the Jungle and Light Tribes, fewer and fewer Jungle Tribesmen would make their home their as the generations passed. It would prove tragic in more than one respect, for the Light Tribe and the ostracized Shadow Tribe became locked in an ongoing war that saw both decline. Despite the division among most of the tribes, this was still an age of great heroism. Among the exploits that took place in this time were those of a group of warriors under the mighty Ackar and the cunning Kiina, who drove off the Piraka pirates before pursuing them into unknown seas, never to be seen again. The island was also menaced by the fearsome Skrall, a dark horde who were only stopped when the powerful duo of Axonn and Brutaka faced their leaders Tuma and Stronius in a battle that caused a portion of the island to sink, taking the battling titans along with it. Hydraxon, hero of the Earth Tribe, faced the Shadow Tribe warlord Icarax, while Surel, friend to the wolves of Okoto, faced the dreaded Telluris, master of the Skopio war machine. In time, a mere handful of members of both the Light and Shadow Tribes remained, but these were powerful and fearsome, possessing all the Elemental Power that had previously been shared among hundreds. Among the Light Tribe survivors were the brothers Artakha and Karzahni, leaders of their tribe and the last Mask Makers. Karzahni was renowned for his skill in battle wielding chains, and under his rule the city of Kini Nui was a place of great sportsmanship. Many noble warriors or competitors, such as the four-armed Jungle Tribesman Oris and the masterful archer Likus**, were interred in the city after spending lifetimes in its service. Artakha was more devoted to his work of creation, and was notable in one other respect: despite the war between them, he had fallen in love with a woman of the Shadow Tribe, Korusca***, and the two were joined in marriage. The Shadow Tribe, determined to achieve a final victory over not only their Light Tribe enemies but over all others, enacted a dark ritual. Using magics left to them by the Sisters of the Skrall, worshipers of the foul Annona and Tren Krom, they channeled all of their Shadow energies into their leader Miserix, who also used the Avohkii to drain the powers of Light from their enemies. His six minions then used the same spell to draw the powers of the other tribes from them; the process left all the other Okotans reduced in stature and without the Elemental Powers they had so long wielded. Now known as the Element Lords, the seven villains sought to claim the island for their own, and even the great Karzahni and Artakha could not defeat them alone. Fortunately, there were those who recognized the danger of the Element Lords as being far greater than any old suspicions. Six of these, one from each tribe-Flammik, Buzkayo, Bumonda, Rokreng, Droton, and their leader Lady Jagiri of the Jungle-came together and aligned themselves with the Mask Makers, who crafted a set of seven masks. The eight heroes soon confronted the villains at the Temple of Time itself, where they employed the masks in an effort to drain the villains of their power. In the ensuing battle, Karzahni was knocked into the pool of the Temple of Time, and was ever after possessed of the power to see or grant visions of the future. The mask used to drain the powers of Miserix became twisted by its dark powers, which it alone attempted to contain, while Jagiri and her comrades drew the powers of their respective Element Lords into their masks and themselves. This would forever mark their bloodlines, and they and their descendants would thus be the only ones among the Okotans able to master the power of Elemental Masks. Stripped of their powers, Miserix and his minions ceased to be, while Artakha and Karzahni-the only remaining members of the Light Tribe in the wake of the Element Lords' onslaught-reclaimed a portion of their tribe's Light power from the Avohkii, granting them increased longevity. However, the heroes and the elders of the island soon decided that it was too dangerous to attempt to return the Elemental Powers to the islanders. As such, the excess Elemental Power was channeled into the island itself, which was remade and renamed: Okoto, the land of six regions. The elemental forces produced crystals that radiated elemental energies, and gave rise to the Elemental Creatures: Ikir, Melum, Uxar, Kivoda, Ketar, and Terak. Agil, Creature of Light, was born from energies released from the Avohkii, though no Region of Light came to be as a result. An attempt was made to release the darkness within the seventh mask made by Artakha and Karzahni, resulting in the birth of Jaga, the Creature of Shadows****. However, the darkness that might have given rise to a seventh Elemental Region was instead drawn to Teridax's discarded blade, and his oath of vengeance was given form as a monstrous mockery of the departed Toa, who was soon given the name of Umarak. Jagiri and her comrades became the first generation of Protectors, dedicated to defending Okotans from whatever danger might arise. Under their guidance, the six surviving tribes became allies once more, and many of the old taboos were cast aside. For some years they continued to work with the Mask Makers, though sadly Karzahni was eventually driven mad by his visions, and later murdered by Umarak, who stole the Shadow-infused mask from Kini Nui and named it as his own, the Hunter Mask. Artakha and Korusca were subsequently blessed with twin sons, Ekimu and Makuta, whose mother passed soon after their birth, having forsaken the power of Shadow that had been her birthright. In time, Artakha himself passed, leaving his Mask of Creation to Ekimu while crafting the Mask of Control for Makuta. Ekimu and the Protectors were silent, processing the long lost account of Okoto's ancient history. Kivoda, who along with his comrades had said nothing during the narrative, turned to the Mask Maker. "How much of this did you know, Master Ekimu?" "Some, of course-part of it is the history of my own family. But my uncle Karzahni, whose visions were inscribed in the Temple of Light as the Prophecy of Heroes, foresaw the need to keep much of it secret, and impressed that need upon my father Artakha. I wish I had known this before the Toa had departed-it would have been a comfort to them to know of their origins and connection to Okoto's past. But we must concern ourselves with the future-we cannot change what has passed." Intent on their discussion, the eight Okotans were unaware that they were observed by the most unlikely of sources: the Bull Skull Mask once worn by Skull Basher. Though no eyes could be seen through its empty sockets, it was indeed receiving audio and visual input. And on the other side of a wall between worlds, that input was received by another whose history had been touched upon in the ancient tome. Makuta, the last Okotan to bear the legacy of the Shadow Tribe, stood trapped in the dimension born from the fall of the first Master of Shadows and smiled wickedly at his brother's words. "Oh, how wrong you are, brother-you just don't know it yet." To be continued... *Skull Basher's name is taken from a placeholder name for an Earth Tribe Glatorian mentioned in the draft for the cancelled BIONICLE 5. **Oris is also named for a BIONICLE 5 character, a Jungle Tribe Glatorian, while Likus is named for an Ice Tribe Glatorian intended to appear in the same film. ***The name Korusca comes from a prototype name for the Kanohi Avohkii. ****I figured that if one magazine model could be a Creature of Light, the other one could be the Creature of Shadows with a G1 inspired name.

  12. Welcome to Okoto Adventures, a comical comic featuring the Bionicle 2015 sets and other characters. I am Pohatu, and all these hiatuses with the Bionicle animations has left me bored. So what does any smart, normal Toa do when he is bored? Make comics of course! I must warn you though, I am a very busy Toa and these comics will be updated at a highly irregular schedule. Some weeks there might be two, others might have none. Without further ado.... I present to you the origins of OKOTO ADVENTURES. 13. Hello All, it's been a while. I've been relatively silent on here recently, which doesn't surprise me much honestly. Christmas came and went, with me receiving the last Six 2001 Bionicle sets that I needed to complete my collection for that year. In total I got all six Mctoran, the Nui-Jaga, Muaka & Kane-Ra, and seven noble Kanohi. I've still got quite a few missing as far as the Kanohi go, but I expected that. The Mctoran were all complete including their polybags, Muaka & Kane-Ra was kind of new in box (The previous owner had opened it just to put the treads in a Ziploc), and the Nui-Jaga were sealed in box. I did feel bad about opening them, but I really wanted to build them! Anyway, that is not the point of this entry. The point is that seeing all of the revived creativity in the art and library forums has reignited my interest in fixing and finishing my Bionicle Legacies series. The conversion I had been working on stalled, and I really don't have the motivation to continue it, and I'm taking a break from my High Fantasy book for a bit longer. The reposting/rewrite of The Return will start soon, and hopefully won't take too long. The majority of my ideas right now are towards the long planned prequel, and the incomplete sequel. The short stories that are part of the series will likely be posted before any of that, as most of them aren't that embarrassing. Mostly I'm just excited to revisit the AU that I created over ten years ago. How's everyone else doing?
  14. Okay, so, does anyone have transparent images of kanohi? I do have some of my own, but they're only the Toa Mata and Turaga's kanohi from 2001. Honestly, I'd love to have a transparent image of the orange Pakari to do with as I please. I'm honestly not good at editing images to make them transparent. I'm aware that there are some on the BioMedia Project, but there's still a lot that are missing. if anyone can provide some that aren't already on BMP, I'd appreciate it! Also... yes, I'm probably back from the dead.
  15. These are the final pieces for a series of models commissioned by ghost-mantis! Throughout 2016 she was commissioning me to do reimaginations of Bionicle Gen2 Elemental Creatures. Finally, the set is complete! [uxar and Ketar post] [Akida and Ikir post] So, first we have here Terak, an Elemental Creature of Earth. Decided to go with the most obvious animal reference - the mole. Love the drill nuzzle. :3 [Digital MOC Commission] Terak by Artemiy Karpinskiy, on Flickr The second piece is Melum, the Elemental Creature of Ice. I drew my inspiration from polar bear and pangolin (hence the plating). There’s also a bit of a tiger in here somewhere, unintentional but I can’t shake the feeling it’s there. [Digital MOC Commission] Melum by Artemiy Karpinskiy, on Flickr And finally we have is a reimagination of Ekimu’s Hawk with upscaling him to match the other Creatures. You may notice something and say “HEY, I’VE SEEN THIS BUILD BEFORE”. Yes, you did. It’s a redecorated and recolored Ikir. I apologize, the build is too good not to use. 16. Kind of a follow-up on "To Build a Toa," but I didn't make a whole bunch of art for this one, so I figured this would be the best place to put it. Not a story as much as a technical study and outflow from a headcanon brainstorming exercise, but I'm interested to know what y'all think about it all the same. edit: actually, in retrospect the "Bionicle Story and Theories" forum would've been a better place for both this topic and "To Build a Toa"... --- The process by which Matoran were constructed for thousands of years was unfortunately lost with the Great Spirit robot, and it took years before the robot’s former residents made at least a partial re-discovery of it, allowing new Matoran to be created once again. Some changes were inevitably introduced in the reverse engineering of the process, however, and multiple problems were encountered that could only be solved through some significant design changes. Nowadays, an uninformed observer wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a pre- and post-Reformation Matoran (referred to as “Matoran Nuva” or “Nuvatoran” in those early days), but the development of the latter was a contentious issue in Matoran society for quite some time. Its numerous setbacks did nothing to help, and it took many trials over several hundred years before the Matoran could at last claim that they had successfully developed a practical method of reproduction that did not require the resources of the Great Spirit robot to work. The main limitation encountered was the difficulty of programming a Matoran brain before activation. Inside the Great Spirit Robot, a Matoran’s role was often assigned even before construction began and the Matoran’s brain could be programmed beforehand with all the knowledge necessary to perform the task, with some additional ‘baseline’ knowledge thrown in to allow them to function in society. In essence, a newly constructed Matoran was mentally as prepared to face the world as an Agori with ten or fifteen years alive and a couple of months on a job under their belt. However, the equipment used to program a Matoran brain in this manner was lost with the destruction of the Great Spirit robot, and techniques developed since then have proven comparatively crude and ineffective; programming a Matoran to be ready to face the world from day one as before proved impossible, and even implanting a decent baseline of knowledge with any degree of consistency was extremely challenging. Faced with a dilemma between creating new Matoran far inferior in mental capacity to their predecessors or leaving their entire species with no means of reproduction whatsoever, Matoran scientists and engineers were willing to look just about anywhere for an answer. They found one among their neighbors, the Agori, in what had up until then been little more than a curious phenomenon to the Matoran: childhood. It had been observed early on after the Reformation by the Matoran that the markedly different physiques of the Agori and Glatorian came with a very different method of reproduction. The former residents of the Great Spirit Robot were shocked to learn for the first time about the concept of sexual reproduction, but curiosity aside, they had concluded initially that it provided their counterparts with no practical advantages. The offspring produced through it was small, vulnerable, could not take care of itself, and had to be taught how to function in the world by their creators, a process that could take years and did not truly end until the offspring physically matured to a point at which Matoran were essentially created. However, unable to create offspring that could mentally be considered equivalent to Agori or Glatorian adults (or at least young adults) from day one, the Matoran decided to take a second look at their neighbors’ methods of raising offspring. They concluded that, since Matoran capacity for learning was no less than that of their organic counterparts, creating Matoran ‘children’ and instructing them until they could function on their own was an acceptable alternative to creating no new Matoran at all, and it would not require the complicated programming that creating ‘adults’ would. Other than some basic sensory and motor skills, which were by far the easiest part of the programming to recreate, these Matoran children could essentially be activated as blank slates, filled in over time through instruction by others. So, the first “Nuvatoran” to be created, while physically identical to their pre-Reformation counterparts, were mentally equivalent to Agori infants with more developed motor skills. They were a curious sight to many, and the many were also a curious sight to them. The process of instructing them in how to function in the world had to be developed essentially through trial and error as, understandably, no Matoran had any experience in parenting. The teaching experience of those who had worked in old Ga-Metru did help, but wasn’t easily applicable to Matoran lacking even baseline knowledge. Advice from the Glatorian and Agori was forthcoming, but not always applicable due to the marked physical differences between their children and what the Matoran had saddled themselves with. Incidents of Nuvatoran wandering off and getting into very dangerous situations out of curiosity and lack of knowing any better abounded, and a number were unfortunately lost because of them. Rumors began to circulate, unfavorably comparing the newcomers to the “shamblers” of Le-Metru during the Vahki era. It was due to this comparison that “Nuvatoran” became a derogatory term for a time, carrying connotations of mental inferiority and a penchant for foolish behavior. Many methods of instruction, of raising the accident-prone Nuvatoran were tried and discarded, and in the end a “parent” system modeled after the Agori way of raising children proved to be the best. Two older, experienced Matoran could share the load of instructing and watching over a Nuvatoran in a way that did not require them to abandon their day job, and having more than two instructors often proved confusing for the Nuvatoran right after activation. After establishment of certain baselines by the parents, further instruction through Ga-Metru style schools would become possible. Development of proper parenting methods ensured that, while it took several years of instruction, the earliest Nuvatoran eventually did reach a true adult stage of development and became quite indistinguishable from their pre-Reformation counterparts. Their reputation steadily improved because of it, and the now shared experience of parenting became a bridge of sorts between Matoran and Agori cultures; in spite of their physical differences, the two suddenly seemed less alien to each other. Eventually, adopting newly created Nuvatoran became normal for Matoran pairs confident that they could raise one together, introducing the concept of ‘family’ to Matoran culture, though it never became as prominent a social tie for the Matoran as it was to the Agori. Nuvatoran that made it to the adult stage of life and left their parental home usually kept in contact to at least some degree, but unless proximity kept parents and child close over time, they eventually came to regard each other as little more than acquaintances; the parental dynamic always remained a temporary one, adopted by the Matoran rather than biologically ingrained in them, and over the enormous lifespan that a well-maintained Matoran could achieve the period spent in childhood would eventually become little more than an insignificant blip in memory. The lack of any physical differences between those Matoran who had had a childhood and those who hadn’t in some ways reinforced this attitude; few saw a reason to dwell on or revel in a period of life that many of their companions could never share. For some Matoran, however, the effects of childhood would extend beyond close ties to parents or time spent under instruction; already mimicking the Agori in mental development early in life, similar developments could be brought to the Nuvatoran physique as well through concept of “diminished building.” The idea of a diminished Matoran was nothing new even before the Reformation; the entire population of the island of Mata Nui was diminished for most of their time there, for example. A diminished Matoran is markedly smaller and weaker than a regular one, and pre-Reformation, there were a number of ways in which this condition could be acquired. In the case of Mata Nui’s residents, the cause lay in the time they spent in Matoran Pods constructed by Makuta Teridax. Various mutative powers could also turn regular Matoran into diminished ones, and some Matoran who spent time in Karzahni were rebuilt in simpler, diminished forms by its ruler. In the former two cases, the underlying mechanism was the programmable nature of the protodermic materials from which Matoran were constructed; Matoran spheres and mutative powers in essence instructed the very material the Matoran were made of to re-shape in ways that mutated the body into a diminished form. In the case of the Matoran Spheres, the additional material left over was siphoned off to power the spheres as well; Matoran left inside for too long could physically be drained into oblivion. Diminished Matoran could be re-built, or in rare cases, re-mutated in to regular forms if materials were provided, but outside of the reconstruction of the Mata Nui population materials were rarely made available. Diminishment therefore had obvious negative connotations to the Matoran, but during development of the Nuvatoran one did note that diminished Matoran were a good physical analogue to Agori children. The image stuck, and the idea of building Matoran in diminished ‘child’ forms to be upgraded to regular ‘adult’ forms later on was developed further, though not openly for common use due to the aforementioned connotations. There was an economic argument, or perhaps rationalization, that underpinned diminished building as a viable concept: just under half the height of a regular Matoran, a diminished Matoran only required a little over a third of the materials to build. For a time, this was seen as quite a significant advantage, but leaving Matoran in a diminished state was certainly unacceptable; eventually, a Matoran built diminished would have to be re-built at regular size at the cost of the materials saved in their initial construction. Still, diminished building’s potential to reduce the frontloaded nature of material investment in the creation of new Matoran made it an attractive alternative for when materials happened to be scarce; having been activated, the diminished Matoran could aid in the gathering of those materials themselves, in effect earning back on their construction cost even before their upgrade to regular status. With the rise of this economic argument, the initial idea of diminished building offering the Matoran a ‘physical childhood’ kind of fell by the wayside, but before the concept was mothballed entirely its development in that role was taken one step further through the very same mutative properties that had led to the creation of most pre-reformation diminished Matoran. Matoran scientists managed to engineer an artificial growth cycle, a process by which, provided adequate consumption of protodermic materials as building blocks, a diminished Matoran’s body could slowly ‘grow’ into a regular-sized body. The process was slow, taking a little over a decade in total, but it could provide a Nuvatoran with an even closer experience to Agori childhood and would not require an intensive re-build at any point in their lives. However, outside of a few test cases it was never seen in practice on Spherus Magna; materials for Matoran construction were never hard to come by and no one articulated any practical advantages to giving Matoran a physical childhood to match their mental one. Diminished building was developed on Spherus Magna mostly out of curiosity and as a test for the Matoran to see how well they truly understood their own biology, but no arguments for its widespread adoption ever emerged. The development of Matoran childhood, a concept that would have been utterly foreign to the residents of the Great Spirit robot years before, is a good example of how these beings designed originally to function in the controlled environment of that robot had to adapt themselves to live on Spherus Magna afterwards. It is not the only change that can be observed between the pre- and post-Reformation Matoran, though; it is merely the largest item of a long list that contains several other major changes. For example, many changes were made to the Matoran mouth and digestive system to allow them to more easily derive all their nourishment from consumption of food and drink rather than through the use of charging points; in the early years after the Reformation, Spherus Magna lacked any infrastructure for charging points and hence the dietary change was forced on the robot’s former inhabitants. The other major change was the practical elimination of elemental gender-locking, the practice of basing Matoran gender on their element. This wasn’t so much a conscious choice on the part of the creators of the Nuvatoran as it was a natural outcome of the differences introduced in the creation process; within the Great Spirit robot, the personality and hence gender of a Matoran were always programmed in beforehand, and this simply wasn’t possible with the comparatively crude programming methods available for Nuvatoran creation. Ce-Matoran notwithstanding, the Great Beings’ reasons for linking elements with gender were never clear to the Matoran regardless, so the development of ‘tribally unusual’ personalities among the Nuvatoran was greeted curiosity rather than hostility. The first female Ta-Matoran and male Ga-Matoran were a disruption to the order, sure, but not to an order that anyone could make a practical argument for retaining. It wasn’t long before the populations of all the tribes included members of both genders, though tendencies towards one or the other remained; most tribes eventually settled around a 65:35 split in favor of the gender associated with their element, with the Ce- and Su-Matoran emerging as the most prominent outliers with percentages closer to 90:10.

  18. Do you have any Bionicle jokes or puns? Keep in mind I mean in-universe jokes, not real-world anecdotes related to Bionicle. I have one, but it only makes sense if you watch Spongebob: *Ekimu takes Kulta's skull mask* Kulta: Hey man, that's my mask. Give it back. Ekimu: What? No way! Just -- crawl back into your hole, bone-boy! Kulta: I guess I'm gonna have to take it from you... Ekimu: Oh yeah? You and what army? *A bunch of Skull Warriors walk up* Kulta: Only the army of the living dead. *Later on* Ekimu: I did it! I got the million-dollar mask! Let's start the bidding at a million dollars! Tahu: Hey buddy. Didn't you hear? They found a whole warehouse of Skull Warrior masks. They're worthless!

Alternately, I'm also willing to trade for items on my gaming wish list. Thanks!

  22. So I have been a collector of Bionicle figures since 2001. I remember getting the first Onua figure when I was a kid and loved the figures all the way up until the final set last year. With collecting them though I started creating my own story to go with my own creations. This started as just a kids idea but over the years has grown into something I am quite proud of. Ive written most of it down and have decided to finally post it and get reaction from the Bionicle community. Much of it is similar to the original story but I change quite a bit over the course of my story and add characters that never existed. I am going to post the first "Episode" here and would appreciated some feedback/critiques on it. I appreciate it all. Beginnings: Part 1 It happened in a flash. A ball of fire hurtling out of the sky. A huge explosion rattling the ground as the fireball hit the earth and hundreds of screams echoing through the forest. But this was no fireball. This was a ship, a skyship over a thousand feet long that had fallen from the sky and crashed into the ground. The screams echoing through the forest are from the hundreds of occupants of the ship who were jettisoned right before it exploded. The screams aren’t the normal ones you would hear from the survivors of a crash though. Instead of “Where is my family?” and “How did this happen?” it is “Where are we?” and “Who am I?” for the entire manifest of passengers has lost their memory. They have no idea who they are, where they are, or how they got there, and that is scarier than any crash could ever be. As the group of survivors rush away from the burning wreckage of their fallen ship a voice is heard out of the ocean of yelling. “Everyone listen! Come this way! We must stick together!” It is coming from one of the passengers. He doesn’t know why he felt as though he needed to lead them, it was just an inner urge he had, but he must try and make sure not to lose anyone in the dark forest that surrounds them now. He doesn’t look like the others either. He has more of a weathered and wise look to him, but his voice carries far and the ones near him follow. Soon the entire mass of people are following him away from the crash and into a nearby clearing. As they walk he is joined by another who looks similar to him, weathered and with an air of wisdom, but a different color. In fact he has noticed that everyone seems to be colored a total of six different ways. As they reach the clearing the crowd begins again with pleas for answers. They expect this one who led them away from the dangers of the crash to know something they don’t. Unfortunately, he does not. Like everyone else in the clearing he has no idea who they are or where they are. He cannot even recall his own name. “I know you wish for answers!” He says to the confused and worried crowd. “But I have none. I just feel as though we are safer together then apart in this forest we know nothing about!” The crowd becomes more restless and the question of who they are becomes more prevalent. “We know not who we are!” The other one who looks similar to him says. “But we do know we all came from that ship!” He points to the wreckage. “That much is certain. Now we need to find shelter until morning then we can try to sort everything out!” This other one like him is a born leader too. As the crowd begins to calm down and attempt to create shelter and some sort of comfort out in this forest the one who led them out of the forest looks around at everyone there. The differences he noticed about them become more prevalent in the light of fire. They are colored six different ways black, blue, white, brown, green, and red. He is red and the other one who helped him calm the crowd is colored brown. Without a name to call himself he just decides to refer to himself as Red for now. Red walks over to Brown and thanks him for helping calm down the crowd. “Don’t mention it, it was no problem. I just felt like I should, ya know?” Brown says. “I do know.” Red responds. “That’s why I led us over here. I felt an inner urge to keep everyone together.” He says. “I feel the same way. Safer together than out there alone.” Brown responds. The next morning four others similar to Red and Brown come over to them. White, Blue, Green, and Black they decide to call themselves for the time being. They have each been talking to others of their color and they all feel like they were on that ship for a reason, but no one can remember why. “We need to find a better place to protect ourselves.” Black says. “Yes, and we need to try and find out who we are soon and where we are.” White adds in. “Agreed, but where do we start?” Asks Green. “Maybe we should head there.” Blue suggests as she points towards an enormous mountain to the northeast of them. “No…I think we should head west.” Red suggests. “Why?” Asks Brown. “I am not sure.” Red starts. “But I feel as though what we need most now is answers and I have a feeling they are towards the west.” The others don’t argue with Red and they all agree to head west, hoping that will lead them to some answers. As they walk through the forest the six leaders get a chance to talk to one another. They too have all noticed the color differences in them. They all have personality differences as well. The black members seem to be much larger and stronger than the others there while the brown ones are faster and the green ones seem to know their way around the forest better than any of the others. “Yeah, I and the others of my color can see in the pitch-black darkness too.” Black tells the others. “Strange.” White says. “We each seem to be adapted to different things.” White and the others of her color have impeccable memories, able to remember every step they have taken. Which increases their curiosity of how they all lost their memories and ended up on that ship. A rustle in a nearby tree startles them though and they all stop, trying to see what it could have been. All of a sudden, a huge lizard-like creature eight feet long, twice that of even the tallest among them, jumps out of the trees and roars so loud is echoes through the entire forest. Its massive razor-like teeth are bared and the six leaders and the crowd of hundreds behind them know not what to do here. In a flash the creature is gone. It jumps into the trees and disappears without a trace. The leaders are dumbfounded. How could a creature that big…just vanish? Then it appears again in front of them out of thin air. “It can camouflage itself!” Blue yells to the others. “Watch the ground!” and just like that the creature is gone. Except this time then don’t just hear the footsteps or growls of one, but what seems like five or ten. “Huddle together and watch the ground! It can’t hide its tracks!” Green cries to the others there. For a moment, everything becomes calm. The growls stop and one of the red survivors breathes a sigh of relief, but then it is lost. Seven of the large reptilian creatures uncloak and jump at the mass huddle of survivors. The green ones try to hold the creatures back with the spears they fashioned themselves the previous night, but it is not enough. The spears are shattered into splinters as one creature grabs a blue survivor by the arm and attempts to drag it off. Three of the black survivors pick up rocks and hurl them at the lizard with incredible strength and accuracy and the beast lets go, running back into the forest with a bruised eye. As the blue survivor falls the mask that was on his face falls off and he slumps over unconscious. The three black survivors that helped him, pick him and the mask up and pull him back into the huddle. As the green survivors use their spears and the black ones hurtle rocks at the creatures the unconscious blue member is brought over to the leaders. “We can’t wake him up!” One of the black ones that helped rescue him says. “Let me see him.” Blue asks and they lay him down in front of her. As if by instinct she picks up the mask, examines it, and then places it back on to the unconscious survivor’s face. In an instant his eyes open and he sits up, groggy, but ok. The rest of the leaders yell to the survivors not to let their masks fall off and to work as a team to fend off the creatures. At once the other colored survivors start picking up anything they can and begin pelting it at their reptilian attackers. As the last of the lizard creatures hisses at them and runs off into the forest everyone calms down a bit, but still ready to pummel another creature should it attack them as they hear a louder roar in the forest. “We have got to get out of this forest.” Black exclaims to the others. “Agreed, but I truly believe what we seek is just a bit further this way.” Red responds. The other leaders are more skeptical now of Red’s hunch to go west, but with no better alternative they continue on, a bit more cautious now than they were before. As they continue on they end up coming to a large clearing of which a large river passes by. Over this river is a large metal bridge and on the other side of this bridge lay the largest gateway any of them has ever seen, even though they don’t remember seeing any other. That is not what stops them though. For behind this gateway is a massive city with metal spires that travel hundreds of feet into the air. A twenty-foot wall surrounds the city and Red and the other leaders feel as though this is what they have been searching for all along. As they head towards the city and cross the bridge a question comes into all of their minds. “How are they going to get through that gate?” Red and the other leaders walk up to it and instinctively, as if guided by an unknown hand, they all touch the gate. At once light begins to appear from under their hands. Red, green, blue, black, white, and brown lights travel over the gates surface to a point in the middle. They circle around for a moment and then they all hear a voice. “Welcome home.” The voice startles them. Red looks around and sees no one. “Who are you?” He asks. “I am Archive.” The voice begins. “I am the computer program that runs the city of Æthon.” “Do you know who we are?” White asks. “Yes. You are the Matoran. The chosen people of Mata nui.” Matoran? They are called the Matoran! “Please come inside.” Archive beckons as the gates open. “There is much to tell you.” “They survived!?” A dark voice says as its rage echoes through a darkened hallway. “No matter.” The shadowy figure says as he walks into a cavern. “My new minions will make short work of them soon enough.” As the figure stops talking clicking and screeching is heard as a thousand red eyes open, awakened from their slumber.
  23. Hello everyone! Long story short, see image of the 143 blue kanoka disk. Would this be a rare or fake piece?
  24. After seeing others take pictures of their bionicles in real life landscapes I was inspired to try it out myself. Please let me know what you think.
