Ic (1-36): Niikka Tiede, the High-Minister of Science & Technology, stood in front of a thick, membrane window, observing as the two Klein-class dropships were run through diagnostic testing. Though her countenance remained firm and monotone, on the inside she boasted a demon-curdling grin, brewing with sinister pride. The intercom spat out updates at various intervals:"Hull-Plating Integrity... Check""Muscle Reflex Time... Check""Repulse Drive Operating... Check""Neural System Functioning... Requesting crew."She hastily replied, "Noted, pilots will be send immediately."Ic (1-36): Upon the return of the Hamara, Viisas Laki, the High-Minister of Law and Justice, reviewed over the information it had gathered. She was soon bored of it and was about to carry on with her other tasks when something caught her eye. There had been an abnormally large amount of seemingly non-random radio signals coming from nearby systems when the ship had been in 1-3 sector. (Ooc: That would be you, Alex) Frenetic, she instantly contacted her fellow leaders. Unanimously they decided to send the Hamara back in that direction to explore further, accompanied by the two newly finished Klein.Several hours passed and the ships arrived in the 1-2 system, this time Viisas Laki came along.Ooc: 2 Klein Dropships complete2 Colonies upgrade to ProtectoratesConstruction begun on 10 Abfangen-class fighters (Done 11-5)Hamara and 2 Klein to 1-2

IC [Location Third Providence of New Lleh, second district. Time: 0900 Natsirt Standard Time. Identity: Centralized Artificial Intelligence, Model ‘Unaware Light’]The ship was detected the moment it entered the Lleh system, the planet's military put on alert and a priority message immediately sent to the Confederation Council. Meanwhile, while various military personal scampered about readying things, the CIA Unaware Light sent a transmission to the ship, a full dictionary and grammar structure of the Natsirt language to assist any translation programs it might possess, as well as a short message."Welcome to the Colonial Providence of New Lleh; this is the Centralized Artificial Intelligence Unaware Light. This is a colony of the Confederation of Nations, of the species Natsirt. Please state your government, species, and intentions."OOC

IC(A-8): In the middle of Consul Ranerei's greeting of the 'Thernians' an alert came in from Czalath concerning the sudden appearance of an unrecognisable object and the colony had been put on lockdown. The consul did not know whether to be thrilled or frightened, but he put on a smile and opened a channel to Czalath's broadcast system and began speaking as he had to the Thernians over Torios."Greetings, you have wandered into Kalarii Federation space. Show no hostility and none will be shown. You are welcomed here."Oh boy, he thought to himself, as if the celebrations haven't gone on for long enough already...

IC: 2-7Down on the field was a good sized delegation of Syrrinx. Several Xenologers, a crew of news teams with several holoimagers, and plenty of onlookers watched the skies eagerly for the tell-tale orange trail of a ship entering the atmosphereIC: 2-9The alien ship had of course appeared precisely at the given coordinates; merely a thousand kilometers away from the Syrrinx ships, the two would have been hidden by the distance if they had used chemical or ion drives, but the blazing light of their fusion drives were as bright as stars. (@Alex) Ic (1-2): So, my hunch was right, marvelous! The collective consciousness aboard the three ships processed through the transfered dictionary relatively quickly and established a basic translation algorithm. While the analysis was being made Viisas pondered and briefly reviewed the established first-contact protocols in her head before sending a reply. She cringed at the thought of one of the most prominent and unnerving rules, but quickly shoved it out of her mind; she had to focus on the present, not the inevitable future."Greetings... Unaware Light. I am Viisas Laki, a High-Minister and representative of the Leben race. Our current intentions are to make first contact, which apparently is a success. Our future actions are quite variable and are highly dependent upon yours. May I request to meet with you in person?"(@Alex) Ooc: You haven't posted your profile, have you? Starbases now cost 1 Industry Point Each rather than 1 for 3. Please update your industrial orders to reflect this.IC: 2-10One of the two Changelings in the system spun up its Jump Drive, aligned to a nearby star, and was shortly in the 2-15 system. Here it carried out the same mission it had before, scanning Astronomical and Planetary data on the whole system. This was mostly filling in gaps in knowledge rather than new discoveries; Syrrinx astronomers had studied this star for centuries.

OOC: According to my calculations, at the moment there are a total of 500 Industry possible. When we get access to the next 400 systems, there will be a total of 2500 Industry at large. Also, just for future reference, all mentions of earth concepts like Cherenkov radiation may be considered to have been translated from the original Osalieli.IC: [ithaka]The Mother of Invention came hurtling into the Ithaka system, its arrival heralded by Cherenkov radiation and a narrow-beam burst signal, sending everything they knew to the Ithaka Skydocks, flagged as a priority message to be relayed via FTL ansible to Baross itself and to the Aspera Institute. The whole missive was transferred in less than a second, and relayed to Baross itself in only a few seconds more.~+~"Sir!" The junior technician called out. "The Mother of Invention is back ahead of schedule!"His supervisor, a high-ranking Aspera scientist who was one of the men to have worked on the Mother of Invention itself, left his chair and moved to stand of the junior technician's station. "What?" He asked. "Are they sending us anything?""Yes, sir." The technician said, bringing up the first files to arrive. "They're updated scans of the system they were scheduled to watch. It's showing...a colony? We didn't send any colony ships to that system yet, did we?""Not yet." The scientist breathed. "That's an alien colony. They're closer to home than we thought."In the background, someone muttered, "They're heeeere...""Sir, look at this." The junior technican said. "The Mother of Invention was hailed shortly after their arrival in-system. They recorded it and sent the recording along with the system data.""Alright." The scientist's brain started cranking, planning out the Institute's response. "I want you to start disseminating this information. Send the system data to the Astromony Department, and put it out in the scientific fora so that our colleagues can examine it as well. Let's see if we can't find out exactly what our new neighbors have built while we weren't looking. As for the recording, send it to the anthropology and linguistics departments, get them working on translating it and setting up a translator program we can send along with the return mission. Disseminate it as well.""Right away." The technician said, his thin hands already flying across the keyboard and sending the information to its appointed places. As a standard precaution, of course, he backed up the data in isolated servers.~+~The news exploded across the Imperium, panic and elation crossing the worlds in alternate and synchronous waves. The scientific community went absolutely berserk over the Mother of Invention's report, and it didn't take long for them to figure that there was a small colony on the planet, orbited by a single warship of decent size--compared to their own, it equaled one of the yet-unproduced Praetorian class in strength. It was lucky that the Mother of Invention had not stayed longer than it had.The message, however, offered a much more complex puzzle. The assumption was that it was a greeting, although whether it was hostile or friendly was unknown. The recording was decoded from its basic radio transmission into an audio format within an hour of its release, resulting in a sound that was at times similar to their own language and at others harsh and grating, like stone grinding against metal. Yet other times it was whooshing, like the sound of a hard wind. The linguists were able to discern a few proper nouns within the day-- "Valaticus Khronos" and "Sanshoran." The two-word format was deemed the most likely to be a name, and thus the grammatical attachment that followed it was presumed to be some sort of honorific, possibly the head of state or the captain of the ship that had hailed. This left "Sanshoran" as the name of the species which had claimed territory so close to their homeworld. However, they were mostly in the dark as to the rest of the message was. It took several days for the anthropology and linguistics communities to disassemble the rest of the message. The first part was deemed likely to be an address, hailing the Mother of Invention, though not by name. It was therefore likely that it was a standard hail. Notably, pronouns that were identified in following phrases were found to refer back to this original hail. The general consensus was that it opened with a hail, announced either the speaker or his chief of state along with the species he belonged to, and then a request for identification. The details, however, were still being hammered out, but the massive brainpower of the smartest minds on three worlds would have a working translation ready by the time that the Infinitus was prepared for first contact.:w:

(@Alex) Ic (1-2): "Affirmative, we will be arriving shortly. As for atmospheric composition, our species inhabits an 64% Ammonia, 27% Methane, 9% Oxygen environment. Your cooperation and hospitality is much appreciated, thank you." Closing in in a delta formation the trio of ships followed the instructions which led them to the station. They glided into the hanger and the vessels' legs lowered to meet the metallic floor. The ships' figure relaxed and the droning of their engines slowed down to a stop. The chitinous plating on the underside of the Hamara split open with a sickeningly organic squelch revealing an orifice which two sword-weilding guards dropped out of, followed by Viisas. The Minister stood up and dusted off her maroon-colored robes. She peered around at her surroundings. Though unseen, troops waited in the two Klein craft in case anything turned violent.

OOC: Well, I'm hoping this doesn't have an actual "end-game" like Interstellar Line did. While the final battles we had were kind of epic, the whole "All but one person has to die" thing, coupled with some people trying to get past that, made it insanely frustrating.Oh, yeah, and the Selachii got kicked in the face by the Wonder Twins. :PIC(Diemwnt-Cwn): The scout-ship had sent back an initial data packet from the first contact with an alien race, and the Lord President was, to understate things just a little, completely taken by surprise. The expectation, affirmed by theoretical physicists, mathematicians, and pretty much everyone else, was that life in the universe was rare - they expected the first scout-ship to travel for at least a year before encountering another alien race.Instead, first contact came fifteen minutes into the mission. The good news, as the Lord President saw it, was that the race they had encountered appeared to be as new to the universe as they were - much easier to handle, he expected, than some galaxy-spanning empire. The bad news was that, despite the statisticians' assertions that intelligent life had to be unimaginably rare, the Lord President rather suspected that the universe was simultaneously much bigger and much more tightly packed than had been previously thought - and something would have to be done to prepare for the possibility of aliens that were more aggressive than these Syrrinx. The Lord President watched the hovering shadow of the incomplete Carreg-dur space-station under construction in orbit as he dictated orders, to be transmitted to the capitol's top engineering institute."Plans are to be drawn up for a full naval force, capable of launching or repelling a full-scale invasion. Implementation and publication of ship classes to be carried out at the will of the Lord President."IC(Golau-a-Gobaith scout vessel): The pilot of the scouting vessel signaled his assent to the Syrrinx request, and angled his ship in to follow the escort down to the planet. Behind him, the two other members of the crew - a biologist and an astronomer - prepared notes for the first official meeting with alien life-forms.

OOCXom told me it would be possible for alliances to survive through the end; so it may be possible that by the end of the game the Trilateral Alliance of Planets will stand above the ashes of the defeated species before it. :PIC [Location: New Lleh. Identity: Referon.]The coompartments atmosphere had been modified accordingly, the delegation awaiting in sealed atmospheric suits, the slim streamlined version that was no where near as bulky as a space suit. In front of the delegation was a woman, standing there with her hands crossed behind her back. Her voice went through the speakers in the suit, being translated actively via the wireless uplink system in the suit."Welcome to New Lleh; I am Captain Yorhanis Tereef." She spoke it with a calm tone, though one might of noticed her eyebrow twitching rapidly, as though something was wrong with it. "This is quite an honor, meeting representatives of another species."The air flicked for a moment before a holographic image appeared, a tall man wearing a long jacket and thick black glasses hiding his eyes."I am Unaware Light; I'll be assisting any negotiations that may happen." The holograph glanced at the captain, the two sharing a look then turning back to the representatives. "Do you have any purpose other than exploration? Bartering, alliance, any sort of business you might wish to conduct?"

IC: The Icterine landed on the planet in 2-7, tentacle-like landing gear unfurling from the craft's bowels to support it on the ground. Non-aqueous planets had been expected. The pilots inside suited up in their exploration gear. It was essentially a large transparent tank of water, ringed with flexible hydraulic limbs. If the Alizarin inside the tank moved, the water pressure invoked identical movements in the machine. A hatch opened (on the top of the Icterine to prevent water loss of the interior) and the pilots clambered out for first contactWith two new ships done on the homeworld, the brand new scouts were sent out. Perhaps they would discover another new species given that the first crew had already found one. And so soon. One headed towards the new planets, out into open space. The other headed towards a narrow channel of nebulae, seeking worlds unknown...OOC: Not entirely sure how the two sectors are connected, so I'll leave it vague. IC [Location: Citamgine. The old space fleet had been scrapped and sent to the junkyards, leaving nothing left to defend the homeworld besides some ground based installations. Nonetheless, a transmission was sent out, same as all the ones before; a dictionary and grammar structure of the Natsirt language, as well as a message. "You have intruded into Confederation space; please state your intentions immediately or precautionary measures will be taken and your ship will be targeted." The Head Admiral raised an eyebrow at the swirling colors. "In the mean time, we can make arrangements for your stay here, if you wish to prolong this trip."
