Ooc: Huzzah for Leben electronic ignorance. :D(@Alex) Ic (1-2): Viisas elaborately signed her name in highly-stylized Leben runes. "Well then," she sighed as she put the ceremonial pen back into its pocket, "I suppose that covers it. Is there anything else we should discuss?" Behind them the Leben ships' engines began to drone as they warmed up.

IC: 2-7The Syrrinx were clad in all sorts of garments; short, tabard-like clothes were the style of the year, but the main representatives were present in formal attire; black, silky cloaks with cloth-of gold trim and inset with Lapis Lazuli jewelry, the most precious and rare stone on Ath, not found at all in the other worlds. Scientists were usually rich in the Syrrinx Empire. His translator active, the lead Xenologer stepped forward, but refrained from making a bow, in case anything could be considered hostile."On Behalf of the Ath Republic, and the Syrrinx race, I welcome you to our world of Lianka*. May peace reign between our people."OOC: *Lian is the name of an ancient empire on Ath. Ka is the suffix for "new" Thus, Lianka would be like naming a world "New Rome"IC: 2-9(Calinar)The Syrrinx scoutship shortly landed in a Spaceport in Calinar's third-largest city, near the equator. An enormous Space Elevator loomed over the city; perhaps Seela had chosen this port for the visually impressive view it gave, for aside from areas directly in line with the Spaceport, the city was incredibly tall. Kilometer-high skyscrapers were connected at intervals by bridges, some so built up they seemed to be one merged building. Below, a vast baroque cityscape presented itself to the aliens. The scoutship landed on a set of wheels, firing retro thrusters as the pilots cut the fuel feed and shut down the reaction, before securing the ship and clambering out to meet the aliens.OOC: There won't be an official endgame, but "when the hurlyburly's done, when the battle's lost and won" I'd like to have just one winner.

IC (1-1): "Hydration is all that we require. We are a simple species. If a room could be filled with liquid, preferably of a 2-parts hydrogen to 1-part oxygen mix, then we could exist comfortably."IC (2-7): "Greetings on behalf of the Alizarin-Folly-Carmine-Tangelo-Aureolin-Gamboge." IC: [ithaka, Skydocks]Among the mad scramble to decode the alien messages and discover exactly how powerful this apparent colony was, the work at the Skydocks continued as scheduled. The Candido-class frigate Slave to Wisdom was just being completed, with the crew quarters being the last to be furnished and the crew finally being allowed on board to get to know their brand-new home. The magnetic docking clamps released, and a magnetic pulse pushed the frigate, now humming with life, out into space. As soon as they were clear of the Skydocks, the Slave to Wisdom's fusion torch engines flared, and the frigate moved into its own orbit around Ithaka, scanning the skies for intruders. One of the first things it did was download all the available information on these "Sanshoran."In its place, another frigate was already being constructed. The Osalieli had no desire to waste time.:w:

OOC: Unless you force it like Wrack did, that is going to take an appropriately long time. Long enough for me to have my fun, I think. Also, the mechanics of planet conquest as they've been explained so far have given me interesting ideas for how to run my strategy when it comes to war.IC(Calinar): The Diemawr were impressed with the city, though it was the Space Elevator that made the biggest impression. Based on what could be seen here, the Syrrinx had minds geared more towards the grand gesture than any sort of subtlety. The Golau-a-Gobaith maneuvered in carefully for a landing on a set of sturdy metallic runners, coming down with something of a heavy "thud" next to the Syrrinx ship. A hatch opened on the dorsal surface of the ship, and the crew clambered out, jumping down from the top of their ship to greet the Syrrinx.

OOCNot as long as one might think; even when we have 3000 IP points possible and we have massive fleets, SOMEONE is going launch an all out attack and get their fleet destroyed, after which it's just a matter of mopping up the restistance. I'm putting my bets that by this time next year we'll be at end game.

OOC: Considering how long it's going to take to build up a good industrial base and then get a fleet going, I doubt that. Furthermore, if everyone plays it cool, I'm going to be expecting a lot of playing that's decidedly more clever than launching an all-out attack at the beginning of the conflict.

IC: In the nest of the Tsui'nau, ten of the jellyfish-like aliens floated in a circle around a strange device at their center. It glowed with an eerie blue light, projecting a map of the stars in their center. One of the creatures glowed a brighter blue, beginning to communicate.Recently, we have been picking up signals from across the stars. Complicated signals. You know as well as I do that this all but confirms to possibility of other intelligent life. The other Tsui'nau murmured their agreement. But what are we to do about it? asked one. We have no space military as of now. If we were attacked, we'd be destroyed. All we have is the one station- nowhere near enough to protect from an alien attack.Precisely, replied the first speaker. Which is why I propose we seek out the source of these signals, and discover if they do indicate intelligent life. But that knowledge is a double-edged sword, spoke up another. If we find them- they will know we exist. How long until they known the location of Treanu? If we stumble upon some sort of galaxy-spanning empire, we will lose all. You all know as well as I the true source of our power over the Tey'so- I have no illusions that it will extend to an alien race. They will not see us as gods, but enemies- if we're lucky. If we're not, they will see us as nothing more than insects to be crushed.Your words are appreciated, Minister Cal-te 4432, said the first speaker. But the contact will come, sooner or later. If we discover the true nature of this species, then perhaps we can come to a mutual understanding with them. But Grand Proctor Nunsayen 7285, what if they are hostile? Inquired yet another Tsui'nau. Should they find Treanu, they will burn our cities and take it for themselves. In that case, the ship we would send would self destruct- nothing would remain to give away our location, or any other information. But if it does come to war- I suggest we create a space fleet to protect ourselves, replied the first speaker. We have no resources to spare- the colonies are proving a drain on our industry. We were barely able to manage the construction of the Coral Starbase, replied Minister Cal-te 4432.The colonies are draining or resources, true. But very soon, they will be able to support themselves. Little work remains to be done to create such an infrastructure. Not long after that, they will begin putting out their own resources- we shall have a fleet to protect ourselves, said the Grand Proctor, a satisfied tone creeping into his communication. He continued. Designs have been drawn up- Our own, as well as Bivalvi. While primitive, their designs are effective. I motion for the construction of two Storm-Class Battlecruisers and two groups of four Caridea-Class corvettes. All in favor? The gathered rulers voiced their assent to the plan as the ships' designs appeared on the holo-projector.Now, continued the Grand Proctor. One last order of business. As I said before, we need to discover the source of these signals. We have a small ship, an unarmed Euphausii-Class scout, of Bivalvi construction. I move that we send this ship towards the signals, with one of our race, three Bivalvi, and three Sui'Malo towards the signals to investigate. If they prove hostile, the ship will self destruct. If not, we shall attempt to form a peace treaty with the aliens. The crew shall be chosen late-He was cut off mid-sentence by Minister Cal-te 4432. I will go with the ship, said the Minister curtly. The Grand Proctor's light flickered irritably with the impoliteness, but quickly resumed the steady glow it had possessed before.Minister Cal-te 4432 has volunteered to lead the expedition, restated the Grand Proctor, rather unnecessarily. All in favor? The Tsui'nau agreed to the plans, and they were set down to be carried out. This concludes our Council meeting. Fare well friends. To the gods and the people of Treanu! said the Grand Proctor exultantly, closing the meeting. As the other Sui'Nau left the room, the Grand Proctor turned to face Minister Cal-te 4432, skin flashing with irritation.I hope you know what you're doing, Cal-te, said the Grand Proctor irritably, dropping the usual political formality. The same for you, my friend, brazenly replied the Minister. He then left the room, leaving the Grand Proctor to seeth angrily.I expect your crew chosen by the next cycle! called the Grand Proctor. The Minister didn't bother to reply. As lately, he had felt something in the council room- something dark, ancient, mysterious. Evil. He shook off the feeling, dismissing it as nerves. However- he'd keep his guard up. He didn't like being caught unprepared.OOC: Xom and Rover, I'm heading over soon. :P

OOC: No superweapon slot shifts.New Ship Class:DropshipAbout twice the size of a Fighter, a Dropship can be used to carry troops and supplies between ships and the surface, as well as serving as boarding craft. A dropship is treated exactly as a fighter, but takes up twice as much space in Carrier Bays. However, it can carry a full squad of soliders(amount depends on race) and their gear, along with ammunition and other supplies. It also carries a small weapon load to support its payload. Like a Fighter, they are not supported directly, but their cost is part of the 1 IP cost of a Carrier Bay.Weapons: 2 SlotsIndustry Cost: 0IC:"Have you any arrangements, or ideas, you wish to propose?" IC (1-1): In a chorus of clinking metal, the pilots in their mechanised suits followed on from the Head Admiral's direction. They sent a signal back to their ship, which forwarded it on to Glaucous that they had encountered a friendly species, and so closeIC (2-5): The stars were evidently more full of life than even the wildest of theories had suggested. The space exploration programme had not been running for very long, and already two sapient alien races had been discovered. This was fascinating. They would need to stay on top of this. More ships were needed. And better designed...IC (2-7): "An admirable suggestion. I'm sure we could learn much from each other in this method."A small light blinked in the interior of the Chief Navigator's tank. Their ship had received a transmission. Class Name: Decaelo-class dropship (pronounced "day-kai-low"Class Size: DropshipClass Function And Description: Rapid deployment of large amounts of troops on the surface. Effectively a large shuttle.Class Weapons: 2x Point Defense Systems.

IC: Licht scanned the proposition for the new dropship class. Impressive, it could deploy massive amounts of troops on the surface. He grimaced, however, when he realized that a glorified shuttle would cost as much as two Praesidio frigates. His personal shuttle and its entire motorcade didn't cost even a sixth that much, and it was easily the most expensive fleet of cars in government service (he couldn't speak to the size of the personal fleets of some well-known CEOs). He replied to the designer's request for approval with the instruction to cut down on costs, otherwise they'd use standard personnel transportation methods. :w:
