IC: CalinarThe Dragon knew how to recognize a lost cause when it saw one, specifically, it saw a massive shot punch through the Harnos, tearing . Its Jump drive triggered, and it reappeared far away from Ath, gunning towards the planet, on the opposite side from the Branrhyfel"You still have a chance. We respect your prowess in warfare. Call this off now, and we won't seek retaliation. This war has been a good sport."IC: LiankaThe Diemawr attacks proved fruitful; one of the Faeries was gutted, its guns falling silent. The others sustained varying amounts of damage. However, the Diemawr soon had a new target to contend with, for the Changelings locked targets together, eight railgun shots and dozens of rockets flying at a single one of the Diemawr ships.OOC: ToA, does the Poseidon go down or not? I mean, two Large shots, either you have some tricksy bits up your sleeve, or it's getting blasted. My focus on Large ships is paying off more than I expected, and I'm starting to doubt the usefulness of Starbases.

IC(2-9): The Marwolaeth followed the Dragon to the Ath system, and came into orbit close to the Branrhyfel, hovering over the planet, lasers primed and ready to fire on various targets."That does not sound like a surrender. Perhaps you would like to rephrase?"It was a testament to the thick skulls of the Diemawr that they could deliver such a snarky rebuke with a straight face.OOC: Guarantee that the Dragon can't stop them all before at least four important things on Ath die screaming.IC(2-7): The ship targeted by the Changelings was overwhelmed by the sheer weight of the fire, but its three comrades retaliated, each one selecting two of the Changelings and shifting to rapid-fire mode, reducing per-shot power in favor of drowning the smaller ships under a nearly continuous stream of fire.

OOC: "came into orbit close to the <freaking eldritch word here>You did it in one post and said "not all at once?"Now we've established for quite a while that you can't cross two million miles in one post; it took the Syrrinx Assault Fleet a half a real-world day to close from jump-distance to 1-40's planet. Not so quick I don't even get to reply. Two million kilometers from rest is not possible with current tech, else every single Invasion Fleet could do that in one post and 1-40 would be a ball of nuclear fire.

OOC: The only important think I've seen you lose so far is the starbase, and that's after Rover weakened it and I sneak-attacked it. Plus, the Poseidon's defended, speeding away quite fast, and firing in return. It can hold out for a while, considering its got great armor and a segmented interior that can be walled off. Cameras are quickly replaced unless you like melt the hull over it or something.

Well, would you just look at that?

IC:"Well, it's what we're built for. We could change it, but if it works this well why mess with it?" The Dragon's crew was taking advantage of the lull in combat to replace the several EM dishes lost to fire from the smaller ships; the fire had opened a few blind spots in the ship's sight, and while Ath's ansible net could relay information, the battle could move away at any time.

IC(2-8): "Suppose that makes sense. Still, you really are missing out."The Diemawr ships in the system, meanwhile, were just going through a cool-down cycle. As soon as the lull broke down, their plan was to burn for the outer edge of the system and jump out, because fighting a Dragon with only these many ships didn't seem terribly smart.

OOC: I accidentally built an awesome Battleship killer...Anyway, new Ship UpgradesJump Scrambler: An extremely useful but tricky device, a Jump Scramble locks onto a single ship and keeps it from Jumping. However, its effect is limited to a single target, and it only works at a range of five thousand kilometers or less; obscenely close in terms of space combat.Slots: 2Jump Stabilizer: The counterpoint to a Jump Scrambler, a Jump Stabilizer keeps a ship from being scrambled. OOC: As I understand it, the main Syrrinx fleet is still over 2-7, yes? It was just that one Dragon that jumpedIC: The Alizarin fleet, warp engines recharged, popped into 2-7 from 2-6. They made no communications with the Syrrinx. It would be weird to keep pestering them after they had clearly arrived in the scene of combat. As the fleet made its way towards the battlefront, the Halfway to Never focused on getting a lock on the Syrrinx Dragon with its Ion Storm weapon, now at full charge since it had been building power since the original invasion.. With the starbase down it was the most heavily armed ship there, and quite possibly the flagship. Taking it down would severely reduce the Syrrinx firepower and possibly throw their organisation into disarray for a few moments while they re-estabished the chain of command. As they arrived within weapon range, all sensors flashed beige reporting all systems go. They had a ion-stream lock on the Dragon. The Chief Navigator gave the word, and the Alizarin superweapon fired and full capacity. The stream of brilliant energy crackled through the void and struck the Syrrinx Dragon. Then it kept going, lancing right through it and out the other side. Whatever had been in direct contact with the blast would have been vaporised instantly, and anything in the immediate area would be melted or burned. A single bolt of lightning was three times hotter than a sun's surface, and as this weapon was a whole storm packed into a single punch the heat was much worse. Normally not a worry in the vacuum of space, but the Syrrinx ship would have been full of air, which would conduct heat nicely. Likewise the air would also allow the sonic boom that was this enormous lightning bolt's clap of thunder to travel through the ship, deafening anyone close enough to hear it.In addition the lance had smaller blasts peeling and sparking off it like branches of a tree. While not powerful enough to punch through the ship's armour, they were attracted to antenna, dishes, external cameras and the like, and had enugh power and heat to melt and destroy the fragile devices. It was a good job the Syrrinx didn't use electronic circuits or they'd have to worry about the EMP effects as well. The Dragon was, if not destroyed completely, then completely gutted and crippled. With a massive hole right through it and a lot of its sensory equipment taken out. Before the last sparks of the Ion Storm's discharge had flown off the spines of the Halfway to Never it had turned its railgun on the Kraken, seeking to take out the other Syrrinx large ship, while the Ceruleans moved in to open fire with their CPCs. The medium-class weapons couldn't destroy the Kraken, but they could certainly wound it.The flotilla of Jonquil the Alizarin brought moved in the tackle the smaller Syrrinx ships. Though only small-class they had medium-clas weaponry and could pack a nasty punch even to those ships larger than themOOC: That is how you fire a superweapon ToA :P

OOC: I'm not losing it yet. It's not very damaged yet, and it's only taken out one thing. You take some better losses, and I will too. I'm trying not to auto-hit too bad here, but whatever.IC: One warhead was taken out by several railguns firing upon it at once, causing it to detonate prematurely. Still, Riptide Beta was caught in the blast, and Delta was critically injured. For the other warhead, the Kraken battleship intercepted it, the destructive force rippling down the medium ship as it exploded. The Poseidon, with what was left of its defense force, regrouped with the main allied fleet. Every Treanuan ship fired upon the next largest Syrrinx ship(Another Dragon?), railguns battering it, lasers and plasma burning, and missiles ripping holes through it. There was no way it could survive such an onslaught for more than a few seconds.Fight on, brothers. The gods shall win this war.OOC: So, made a blog, posted my stuff, have at thee.

OOCBlah, sleep is annoying. You go to bed for a few hours and what do you get? A full scale war.@Veeci; careful, you'll inflate that ego of mine. But yeah, not saying it cuts through like a knife through butter, just that it'll be weaker. And yet while machine guns and flak guns will rip through it railguns will have less of an effect thanks to the cells acting as a sort of Whipple shield. Also, fifteen kilometers? One hundred is spitting distance in space; fifteen requires fancy flying like none other at these sorts of speeds, considering all craft go at least twenty km/s, maybe ten if it's going reeeally slow.IC [Location: Citamgine. Identity: Head Admiral]Upon receiving word from the the Unwavering Strength that the Leben had attacked, the admiral was, predictably, extremely mad. He had just stopped an incursion into his people's lands and now this? Unless the Leben had been hiding something all intelligence reports showed that the Natsirt could cut through their space as easy a knife through butter. Granted, those reports were exceedingly out of date, but this would certainly cause an issue. So he walked into the specialized holocomm room in the Last Breath of the Enemy, an FTL beam being sent towards the Alizarin homeworld."Alizarin; being as we wish not to anger you again, we've decided to inform you that the Leben have attacked one of our ships unprovoked. This assault was done under the pretenses of friendly ship repair, when in truth the repairs were sabotage. We noticed, however, in your withdrawal of 1-40 that there was a Leben vessel that followed you. The reason why this TAP fleet we've assembled is not currently destroying the Leben fleet is because we respect that you may of formed some sort of alliance... an alliance that might potentially cause our relationship to end badly. While we cannot take into account what happens today as self defense, I also cannot order the fleet to take retaliatory action against the Leben until I am sure you will not come flooding across the Great Passage."[Location: 1-32. Identity: General]"Seventy six degrees on the y axis now!" The captain of the Unwavering Strength yelled, the ship lurching as it's directional fusion torches blasted off, changing it's direction enough that they vessel didn't overtake and crash into them. The crew was rocked about, but considering that, unlike other starships, Natsirt starships actually had seatbelts, no one was tossed across the room. "Full spread of machine guns, keep tearing it in half; use the railguns on the tips of the ship.""Aye sir." The lieutenant knew what the captain meant, bridges were often located at the ends of the ship.On the Unwavering Courage the ship's fusion drive was being pushed as it was forced to accelerate with the ship to stay with it. All Natsirt spacesuits had mechanisms for relieving gee force, but they wouldn't be able to keep this up for long if they kept accelerating like this. The ship's AI, however, had finally finished it's scan of the Leben vessel and decided it had found it's engines, all weapons now focused on them.OOCWhen my ships give orders like turning on an axis I'm doing it like I'm turning a model in Blender, incase anyone is curious.IC [General]On Citamgine a wall was hit on jump gate technology, and the project was promptly scrapped. The scientists working on it were reassigned to weapon R&D and the world went on.OOCXom went back on my jump gate idea and deapproved it.

Ooc: Yes, fifteen kilometers. I'm not sure if you've read my ships' profiles, but most of my ships lack any kind of projectile weaponry. The Klein is trying to engage the Unwavering Strength in melee combat. A "fistfight" in space. And just as a general rule, Leben ships are quicker and more agile than other ships, the disadvantage of course being lower-grade armor and lack of decent offense. Also, just for convenience, the Klein shall hence forth be dubbed the Revered Covenant and the Forschung the Ardent Remorse.(@Alex) Ic (1-32): The Revered Covenant blurred past the Natsirt ship and changed trajectory, arcing "upward", a trail of bullets gnawing into it's twin tails. The Klein barrel-rolled and began to fall back towards the rear of the Unwavering Strength*, taking the brunt of the assault with it's quickly deteriorating, protective skull-plate. 2 seconds until the boarding-craft had a hold on the enemy vessel. The Forschung continued to retreat, avoiding the majority of the shells launched form the smoldering Unwavering Courage. OOC: Quick note, Alex - ships can go as fast or as slow as they like in space, but it takes time to accelerate or decelerate. They certainly do not always go at 15 km/second, not unless your engineers have no concept of elegance, and if that's the case, you should've said a while back that you're playing as Daleks.Hmm, let's see. Lianka's abandoned, Calinar has no ships defending it, Ath has one ship defending it.IC(2-8): As the Dugrhyfel jumped into the system, the Branrhyfel began maneuvering away from the planet, slowly bringing itself around to come within view of the Dragon. The smaller ships that had followed it into orbit from the outer edge of the system circled around the planet in the opposite direction, aiming to catch the Dragon in a pincer.A bright flash of light from further out signaled the firing of the Dugrhyfel's coilgun, sending a massive ferromagnetic flechette hurtling through space at the Syrrinx ship. The brief chatter between ships had bought the laser-boats time to complete their recharging cycles, and, as the projectile from the Dugrhyfel sped towards its target, they put this to good use, the Branrhyfel and three remaining Marwolaeth (a mishap while jumping into the system having claimed two more of their number) stopping their engines dead to pour as much power as possible into their lasers, ruby-colored* beams of death lancing through space at the Dragon. The ships in orbit over Ath did not expect to survive this fight - just to do some damage to the Dragon before going down.OOC: *Yes, I know lasers in space should technically be invisible. Rule of Cool trumps science just as easily as Word of Xom does.IC(Goron-Trysor): The mild paranoia of the Diemawr was, in this instance, paying off. The Syrrinx embassy had been separated from all major cities, so while civilian casualties were likely, large numbers of them could only come about as the result of complete mission failure on the part of the hundred-and-fifty Diemawr warriors marching towards the Syrrinx embassy. The Syrrinx had been reclassified as enemies of the Diemawr, and this circumstance necessitated the removal of the Syrrinx embassy. Each warrior was encased in a mechanical exoskeleton, increasing their height to just under two meters and giving them a thick layer of armor between them and the enemy. Each warrior was doubly armed - in the right hand, they carried a light autocannon, scaled down to be man-portable. In the right, each warrior carried a bolt-gun, designed to put a 30-centimeter tungsten-carbide dart into any given target, though tests had shown that the darts had only a limited ability to penetrate granite. As a matter of pride, warriors ranking below raglaw* had removed the helmets from their exoskeletons and painted the quills protruding from the back of their heads a bright, fiery red. Higher-ranking officers wore their helmets as a matter of necessity, and, to compensate, had painted their family crest on the chest-piece of their exoskeletons. The full company of Diemawr warriors marched in formation towards the Syrrinx embassy, with orders to execute armed personnel and non-lethally incapacitate those members of the embassy staff who were not armed.OOC: *Like a lieutenant, but a Welsh-speaking lizard.

Something to be noted is because there were no inertial dampeners, the only reason why the Natsirt weren't being flung about was because they were sitting down and in vests. The soldiers wore special boots that latched onto the floor in a mechanical lock, but even they where kneeling at the moment, their suits locked to the floor as the ships rotated and swerved. The only thing limiting the evasive maneuvers of the Natsirt was the universal gee force limit on their crew."**** them," Darcip muttered as the screen showed the vessel moving inbetween the Natsirt warships. "Ensign, give us seven degrees to the x axis; rotate us so our engines are burning down on their ship.""Sir, that'll make advanced maneuvering near impossible.""Yes, but they haven't shot anything at us yet. IC(2-7): Two Jonquil, the Furious Fractal and the Cloud Runner, detached from the Alizarin formation and went after the free-floating Dragon. The order had been given to bring it back to Alizarin territory as salvage, see if anything useful could be reverse-engineered. We are protecting everyone from Natsirt retaliation and you from yourselves."To the allied fleet joining them in the system, "How are your ships holding up, Treanuans? We must finish the Syrrinx fleet, are you fit to pursue?"And to their allies further afield, "Diemawr, what is your status. We have achieved victory in a minor skirmish over Lianka. The Syrrinx ships have been routed and we intend to chase them down and finish them off. But if your require aid we can send it."The Master of Weapons aboard the carnelian ordered the Ion Storm weapon to be recharged. Whether they were sent to aid the Diemawr or chased the fleet in this system there would be a large ship to deal with. The superweapon was their best bet of doing and fast.IC(2-5): "This is interesting news..." the communications officer replied to the Natsirt message, "The Leben did indeed follow us back, as they had sent a diplomatic envoy to 1-40 as we were emigrating from it. They have offered peace but nothing has been formalised as of yet. They offered to build us weapons, perhaps that too was a front for sabotage."

IC:Sienta Kralat was killed aboard Calinar Starbase.Seela Nachii died with her embassy in Diemawr space. The Campaign was short and bloody, but with their fleet annihilated and six races bent against them, the Syrrinx had no hope. The Syrrinx Race was either enslaved, slaughtered man to man, or their worlds burned from orbit. In the grim final days of their race, the Syrrinx encoded their language and entire genome onto several sublight ships, and set their courses towards the nearest stars, burying the same information deep in the catacombs of their worlds. Perhaps in a hundred years' time, or two, the slaughter of an entire species would be looked on as murder rather than justice, and some kind soul would take it upon them to resurrect a flawed species. Until then, the Syrrinx would face the most brutal irony; a race immortal for three hundred years found itself entirely destroyed.Spinning, whirling,Still descendingLike a spiral, sea unendingSound and furydrowns my heartevery nerveis torn apart!OOC: Up to you guys to decide which worlds were bombed and which invaded, and by who.In other news, Sectors 3 and 6 are now accessible from 1 and 2. Humva, do please post the connections when you can.

"A memo was sent to Astaria asking if it would at all be possible to make a flying goat."

"The Astarians responded that making a goat fly would be trivial; making it land safely would be another matter entirely."

OOC: Tch, not even going to make it a fair fight Xom? In just giving up we get to keep all our ships. And I never had any intention bombing Syrrinx worlds for any purpose other that drawing the fleet out. Just as they gave the Natsirt a second chance, the Alizarin would have been happy to let you stick around, just without any proper fleet

OOC: I figured the Trenuans would be the most eager to do the bombing, and I seriously have no way to stop them. My fleet's either gone or will be gone, and with that anyone who likes can slaughter the Syrrinx wholesale.I'm sincerely disappointed that the game has to turn out the same as IL; boring because no one can do anything without being annihilated.Syrrinx slaves are now an open market commodity, tradeable by anyone who invaded one of the Syrrinx worlds. There's also plenty of gold, and, most importantly, a few interesting technologies and ideas lying around their worlds.

OOC: The Alizarin might have been able to persuade them not to, you never know. You can't just give up at the first sign of failure just because it hurts your ego a littleAnd if you'd waited for the Leben/Natsirt thing to come to fruition, or just provided a reason for invasion other than 'Syrrinx like war' then you wouldn't have had everyone else turn on you. Don't blame us for your rash decisions

OOC: If my ego's hurt by this, I can't tell among all the other soul crushing stuff that happened today, but I've expect the Syrrinx wiped out for a while now. They're developed enough as a species that I want to go somewhere else in my writing. Return to an old idea that could use some updatingReason was "Syrrinx saw the potential for economic gain" which, to them, was all the reason in the world for a war.
