Tarn
Oh yeah, I remember seeing this thing a while back somewhere. There may have been a BZP post about it in the past. You found one at a thrift shop, though? Like, the box or the whole dang thing? emily
I've seen that somewhere before, but it's definitely obscure. You've got a really nice collectors item on your hands! What's actually super interesting about this is that it's a 2001 set, but it doesn't have the Technic branding or standard graphic design. So I guess this came out after LEGO had set Bionicle apart as its own theme, but before the Bohrok launched. It's a peek at what 01 packaging may have looked like if Bionicle had been independent from the beginning. Elephant Knight
It was just the box, as well as most for the instructions and posters in the included sets. Interesting how you noted the Technic log isn't on it. I never clued in. Toa Han Quote My Flickr. Old Bionicles on Brickshelf
SPIRIT
So would this let you get the Toa without their canisters? That would be a bit disappointing given the role the canisters played in holding your mask collection. Quote ~ The Jazziest JtO Spoof ~

The box certainly seems properly sized for that. Remember seeing one of these on eBay a few months back, don't recall if it was open with photos or not, but I got the impression it contained the original canisters and such. Toa Smoke Monster
While I've seen 'combo packs' for Bionicle sets before, I haven't seen this one before. I didn't even know that Lego was doing this with sets as far back as the Toa Mata. I think its a cool find. Quote Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story. Toa of Ice - 1987
According to the box it contains 188 pieces. Back in the day...The Toa Mata cost 8-10 dolllars per set and a Turaga cost 5-6 dollars wich means this value box would have cost a 20-25 dollars... set is a really good deal for those sets.It would be 40 dollars worth now with all sets + instructions and mint condition box. Elephant Knight
While I did not get any canisters or boxes with it, it perfectly fits three Toa canisters, and 3 Turaga boxes. Not solid proof, but very solid evidence. Toa Han 1 Quote My Flickr. Old Bionicles on Brickshelf
MrSciFiGuy
Yea I saw those packs in stores back in the day for promos. Never picked one up since I had the sets anyways. Tuuli
How does the Technic logo not being present affect its appearance? Personally I miss when Bionicle was just a part of Technic.
emily
How does the Technic logo not being present affect its appearance? Personally I miss when Bionicle was just a part of Technic. It's not just the logo - like any theme then or now, Technic has a specific way that packaging art was done. At the time it was that organic silvery border with the set number in a yellow 'display'. Plus, the font and placement of the set details, stuff like that. This box has a unique design, with the sort of dented metallic surface with a few different plates running around, plus the glowing green additions (including those six dots above the logo, I guess to represent the Toa). Interestingly, the yellow display that was used for set numbers on Technic packaging is there, but they use it for "ages 7+" instead. Aanchir
How does the Technic logo not being present affect its appearance? Personally I miss when Bionicle was just a part of Technic.Bionicle hasn't been a part of Technic since at least 2003, and the packages haven't been branded as Technic since 2001. The change was never really more than a branding thing, though, and it's not like Bionicle sets became less Technic-based after the change in their branding. New parts and things are still developed under the LEGO Technic design umbrella even today, and many recent sets have been extremely Technic-intensive. The branding change simply means that Bionicle has for the past dozen years had its own clear identity as a unique LEGO theme rather than a category of a larger theme, same as how Ninjago and City are considered separate themes despite both ultimately being based on the same building system. Akuna Toa of Sonics
I've never seen this multi-set box before. I must say, though, that I like the packaging design. It represents 2001's aesthetic much better than the shiny, smooth silver bordering on the standard packaging from back then. Quote Does anyone want to play the Master Chief Collection with me?
