Whale Of A Card
So, as DCotW #5, I'll be doing a creature from the last of the 5 Civilizations that I haven't done yet, Water. Let's give it up for:
Kinda looks like Wailord, come to think of it. Anyway, this guy can be a useful Leviathan to have at your side in a pinch. For 8 mana, it can provide a burly 7000 power, and its Double Breaker ability can always come in handy. Yet, unlike most attackers, King Triumphant has a unique ability shared by only a few other Water and Light creatures. When your opponents sends a creature into the battle zone or casts a spell, this guy gets Blocker until the end of the turn. Then, with its heavy power, it can destroy small attackers and blockers that try to attack your shields or own creatures. And when your turn comes along, King Triumphant becomes untapped and can break two shields.
Since most generic Water decks have their fair share of blockers, this guy works well in several cases. I will, however, suggest the speedy Water deck that concentrates on drawing a lot of cards. Once you've got 8 mana, send in King Triumphant to stall for time with some other blockers, while you get more cards from your deck. Then, just send in some other big creatures, maybe evolve Triumphant into the ever-so-useful Legendary Bynor, and beat the living snot out of your opponent.
Ballom's Rating: 3.5/5. King Triumphant's ability can prove unreliable later on, when your opponent may not summon creatures or cast spells, so his strength is wasted.
