Hero factory masks/helmets/whatever it is HF characters have on their

I was just thinking about how some BIONICLE fans think that Hero Factoy "killed" BIONICLE and I came up with an idea to possibly change their mind and see how BIONICLE can take advantage from HF. I know that most of you know that the HF parts can be used for MOCing with BIONICLE sets . I thought we could use the Hero Factory helmets/masks in BIONICLE for the characters that haven't actually been released as sets and/or haven't been shown in comics, books or in any other form and of which we only know from serials etc. Also, are there any characters that this idea would apply to?

In my opinion, many Hero Factory masks are not very good for BIONICLE MOCs because their designs often include decidedly sci-fi features like antennas and microphones that would not make a lot of sense for a BIONICLE mask (though, to be fair, the original Akaku Nuva had a microphone molded into it as part of its design as well). Of course, some of them DO avoid this issue, including one of my favorites, Breez's helmet from the Brain Attack series. That one also benefits from being a neutral color, meaning it could ostensibly used for a character of any element. In fact, most of the Brain Attack masks (with the exception of Rocka's) lack the obvious electronic gadgets of previous versions of those masks.

 

A lot of the Brain Attack villain helmets could also be used for BIONICLE villain or creature MOCs, since they already tend to have a semi-organic look that might be appropriate for the BIONICLE universe. Frost Beast's in particular seems somewhat BIONICLE-ish in its design, as is Dragon Bolt's. In fact, most villains' masks might work better for BIONICLE than the hero helmets, since few of them have obvious electronic gadgets attached and since BIONICLE villains explored a very diverse range of face designs.

I agree with you on the villians masks and I like Breeze's helmet too. It kinda reminds me of Lewa Nuva's mask in the Axalara T9 set, which was my favourite BIONICLE mask.

 

What do you think about Evo's helmet from 2.0? I think it would look well on a BIONICLE character.

i've thought about this a lot, actually. a number of HF helmets/faces do look decidedly Bionicle-eqsue, and i've considered coming up with names and powers for them, as a sort of fun little fanon thing. i actually just got Frost Beast today and was struck by the face pieces's potential as a Kanohi--an "immoral" Makuta one, say.

as much as i'd like to think that this isn't still a thing four years after the line's launch, it is. but don't think that you have to change their minds. the people who are still angry at Lego for "killing" Bionicle and replacing it with Hero Factory are kidding themselves. they are, to my knowledge, a distinct minority of the Bionicle fandom and you really shouldn't pay them any attention.

Funny you ask. I've posted this idea a long time ago too, but just the other day I actually made a whole series of Matoran MOCs in LDD using these (plus the Hau, and Hydraxon's face as a mask). It's surprising how many actually work. Not sure when I'll have time to post 'em on BZP, though -- maybe next week. Of course, you have to treat most of them as helmets, but you can't really tell once it's on. Some of them flipped upside-down work great as masks directly.

Anyway, I just thought that it would be a good way of seeing Hero Factory as a source of contribution to BIONICLE story. We could for example organize a contest to make official Jovan's team using the Hero Factory Helmets and parts. I just feel like BIONICLE story isn't "complete" whenever I try to look up a character like Toa Tuyet or the Toa versions of th Rahaga. Same goes for things like Mask of Creation. We could use the Hero Factory helmets and parts to fill in these "gaps." of course the ones that have a styling similar to BIONICLE masks.

I do like the idea of using the ton of new helmets that we've gotten out of Hero Factory as stand-ins for all the unrepresented masks out there, and to add more diversity to the Matoran of the world. I'm sure some of them can be used for Agori too, and other beings of all sorts. I know over the years comic artists have invented new masks for background characters, so maybe there's some that look similar to HF helmet models? It would be really neat if there was a nice coincidence like that!

I actually came up with a bunch of HF mask ideas a while ago, so I'll post them, starting with the very first wave:

• Bulk, Mask of Invulnerability: Makes the user impervious to physical harm.
• Breez, Mask of Insect Morphing: Lets the user transform into insect Rahi.
• Furno, Mask of Kinetic Absorption: Allows the user to absorb kinetic energy and then release it in any way they choose.
• Surge, Mask of Static: The user generates and exudes small amounts of electricity, which they can transfer on physical contact.
• Stormer, Mask of Constriction: The user can apply immense pressure to anything they wrap their arms around, similar to a snake.

Savage Planet heroes:

• Nex, Mark of Sharpness: Allows the user to manipulate the sharpness or serration of any edge.
• Stormer, Mask of Momentum: The user builds up many times more momentum than they otherwise would.
• Furno, Mask of Flash Stepping: Allows the user to move at supersonic speeds but only in momentary bursts.
• Stringer, Mask of Warmth: When wearing this mask, the user exudes gentle heat. They are never cold and cannot be frozen.
• Bulk, Mask of Agility: Drastically increases the user's agility.
• Rocka, Mask of Authority: Makes anyone around the user respect them more, and makes them more likely to follow the user's wishes. It also makes treachery against the user less likely.

Breakout heroes:

• Rocka, Mask of Electromagnetism: Gives the user limited powers over electromagnetism. Often fitted with a filter in at least one eye that allows EM spectrum vision.
• Evo, Mask of Laser Vision: Grants the user laser vision.

Then for the bad guys:

• Toxic Reapa, Mask of Acid: Lets the user generate, secrete, expel and manipulate acids.
• XPlode, Mask of Mutation: Miserix's mask.
• Rotor, Mask of 360 Degree Vision: Lets the user see in 360 degree vision.
• Drilldozer, Mask of Immovability: Stops the user from being physically moved by any external force.
• Thunder, Mask of Clamping: Lets the user magnetically stick themselves to any metal surface with extreme strength.
• Fire Lord, Mask of Thermal Consistency: The user's temperature becomes impossible to change.
• Witch Doctor, Kanohi Thanicrosis, Mask of Death: An experimental mask created by the Makuta, it cannot cause instant death but allows the user a wide variety of death-based abilities from black lightning to rot inducement, reanimation to scavenging.

In both cases, I know absolutely nothing about the actual characters in Hero Factory. I just based the powers on what the 'masks' looked like...you'd know better than I would, mate.

The only thing I see most if those HF Helmet would work are mainly Glatorians and the only helmet that may work on a Toa is surge Helmet. And I think of this because I don't see any of the HF helmet but surge and maybe breez as Kanohi Mask.

Now with the Surge Mask would fit as a Kanohi Mask is that it looks like the fan made Mask of Possibilities and Thornraxx Head would work as the Mask of Mutation.

Hero factory helmets make great Glatorian helmets.

It might be a harder sale to convince people that they could be used as kanohi, because they don't connect at the mouth, but the mouth pin isn't canon anyway. Kanohi connect electromagentically, so where the pin is on the set doesn't really matter.

I wouldn't go around canon izing hero factory helmets as masks for the sake of it, but if we had a design contest for a character or something and the winning entry used a hero factory helmet, then I wouldn't see a problem with that.
