  1. This is so cool! This will motivate me to get a lot of small HF limbs. I like the overall color scheme and especially the fact that she has four arms. Great work.
  2. As a whole, I like it. The jets on the legs are especially nice. But please oh please put Mata blue feet on her! It would balance the color scheme tremendously. Some Mata blue socket parts in the thighs may work, but I'm not sure - try to light up your MOCs from the front a little better. Believe me, I've made the mistake of under-lighting MOCs, doesn't help in getting feedback, haha... Oh and her weapons are amazing, just switch out that silver bohrok eye for a blue one to match the other blades.
  3. I really like this! The mata head in the hip area is distracting, maybe add a krana on it or replace it entirely? Fantastic use of system pieces, by the way.
  4. Awesome! Amazingly, the dark grey works well (mostly from the front). In fact, he could use dark grey on his feet in place of some black parts, and everywhere there is light grey would be better as dark grey or red (particularly the wrists).
  5. Pretty basic matoran, but well done. I since you used dark gray in the legs, it works in the head, but it does mess up the purple on black layering on the joints. The hands would be better as purple, if you have the parts. The Ussal is amazing, I love the simplicity. I just wish that dark grey weren't there, and the saw attachments would look phenomenal in black. Terrific MOC!
  6. Interesting articulation, though it almost seems like Pohatu and Macku, given the size. That being said, I like the shoulders on both, though Macku's legs are rather oddly jointed. The one thing you could do easily is replace technic that doesn't fit in her color scheme - black and grey. You made the dark gray work for Hewkii though, which is sometimes hard to do.
  7. This is a nice use of HF for a Bionicle, though there are some changes that might improve it. No dark green - black ball joints are on the elbows and the launcher, so no need to introduce another dark color when you have black. In fact, replacing the Metru waist with a lime one, the elbow ball joints with lime ones, and the Vahki waist with a custom construction to use more lime joints, you can eliminate black and dark green entirely from the color scheme. Similarly, the black on the launcher could be silver, and the pouch would be better as green since turquoise doesn't fit so well with the blue (which is a terrific choice, btw) and it already has a green strap. Lastly, a regular mata head would likely look better, connected with (you guessed it) a lime ball joint. Changing every joint so it is a blue socket over a lime ball would be ideal... but now I'm suggesting an overhaul of the limbs so I'll stop, haha.
  8. Then I'd make the male toa have slightly wider chests and shoulders. She definitely looks very feminine, and carries the proportions perfectly. Absolutely That is exactly what I did for Kopaka. He is even better in some ways, particularly his glow in the dark eyes... but I had to cannibalize him somewhat to build Gali, so it may be some time before I post him. Of course, I also have to update him so that he has all the new stuff Gali has.
  9. Thanks for the comments all. Sumiki - the layering is actually intentional. The blue thigh technic is there so that some blue actually appears on the thighs (otherwise they would be entirely silver, save for the joints) and the feet balance the blue of her head. If lego made the parts, her hands would have blue fingers too... and then there is my attempt to make the feet out of mata parts, which (disregarding that I do own light gray ones that I'd rather not destroy, they being so rare) necessitated that there be blue feet. As a side note, I actually designed her chest as a unisex chest plate to be used for all Nuva to come - I'm glad it works so far. joev14 - specifics as to what was over-modified? I actually reduced the modification of parts there to simplify the torso design so that the torso has more uniform complexity with the rest of the body, haha. Knee guards are something I've been looking into, though at least they are no longer skinny from the side. The feet are no bigger than any toa foot ever released in sets, in fact they are smaller than most. What could I do to make them smaller? Steve the Squid - Yeah, well most of my MOCs are an evolution of the original design, and since I focus on the Nuva (matoro just being a fun application of the design and Ignika being the only one I could make at the time, despite having no reason to look like the Nuva) I hope to get away with keeping the chest the same. Though the rest of it is significantly overhauled.
  10. ... And cuts them, and glues them, even paints them a bit... Look on to see what I mean. UPDATE: Here is Gali with a redesigned aist, let me know what you think: More pictures available here (as Brickshelf is not working today). Please comment, critique, and so on...
  11. Very impressive - but to preserve the original proportions (which are thrown off by a much larger body), try raising the head so that it rises above the shoulders as it did in the original set.
  12. These are incredibly impressive. I particularly like Piruk; the claws are phenomenal and the color scheme is very well done. I am glad to see another MOCist who utilizes Bricklink as I do! I have seen those parts before but never had any reason to buy them, as much as I wanted to. If possible, I would suggest making the system handles to which the fingers are attached dark bluish grey instead of black. The ball joints should all be dark bluish grey as well, for consistency. Amazingly, the HF parts (of which I want many now that I am aware of their existence, though I could make them with ordinary connector blocks with some serious modification and gluing) do not mess up the consistency of ball-and-socket pattern (i.e. dark green socket and dark bluish grey ball) because they are of such a different aesthetic compared to the feet and waist sockets. Dalu is also amazing, though a bit bulky. I forgot that regular blue was in her original set, but the way you have used it here is far more appealing. It matches the mask almost perfectly, and is spread out nicely amongst the silver. The issue that spans most of these MOCs is a lack of complete, 360 degree visual appeal. By that I mean that there is at least one viewpoint from which these MOCs just don't look all that great. For example, Dalu's leg design is not only clever and original, but it looks fantastic... from the front. From the back, not so much. I really have no suggestions besides finding a way to add more armor to the back. The problem is finding a way to preserve articulation, and that becomes far more difficult the smaller the MOC is. Anyways, these are very well done, especially for Matoran MOCs (which are, in my opinion, the quickest to make, but the most difficult to perfect).
  13. *Gasps in astonishment* ... This is simply amazing. The detail is superb, the color scheme is spectacular, and the use of the gears leaves virtually nothing to be desired. Each gear is where it out to be, not one (as far as my brief assessment would suggest) is extraneous. It really does give it a "clockwork" look. What's more is that the use of pieces, both old and new, is inventive and made me pause to wonder how you even accomplished it. The light bluish grey tiles nearer to the torso on the underside of the wing/arm may have looked better in gold (like the ones farther out), but I assume you simply did not have enough. Otherwise the color scheme is extraordinarily well done. One other thing that very few people besides myself would bother to do is make sure all ball and socket joints are the same color combination - black ball, grey socket, in your case. Hero factory limbs with included ball joints tend to cause inconsistency (grey on grey), but this design could easily be reworked with different HF limbs and/or some technic. Though in this case it hardly bothers me, and I doubt anyone else cares. I am unsure if all of the light grey parts can be found in light bluish grey... if so, a consistent grey could look better. On the other hand, a consistent mix as seen here could actually add to the somewhat eclectic and variegated look of the components. As always, I would suggest making each unique part the same color (as with the aforementioned tiles and some of the technic pieces), but nothing jumped out at me (in fact, I had to look closely). Yet you made everything symmetrical, so even if there are changes in the grey type in otherwise identical pieces, it looks fine. The build is nearly perfect with the exception of the wings; they lack articulation. They look great, but you have to detach a support in order to fold them. Not such a big deal, but something to consider if you plan on improving the MOC or making another bird someday. The "feathers" themselves would have been better if they could have been individually oriented... perhaps instead of the perpendicular axle-connectors, use a ball and socket combination in their place. This would require the rest of the wing design to be adapted somewhat, but the basic construction could remain quite similar (a brilliant design to begin with, I might add). As you can tell from the length of this post, and from the far less obvious fact that I seldom comment on other people's MOCs nowadays, I am truly impressed. It's a shame that this couldn't be entered into the contest, I would have expected it to win. I've seen a lot of bird MOCs in the past weeks, but nothing has even approached the level of ingenuity and perfection that this MOC represents.
  14. Excellent little MOC, though for a BBC contest entry it does have very few Bionicle pieces (just the bohrok eyes, everything else being system or technic). Though of course it is close to impossible to make such a small MOC with a majority of Bionicle pieces.
  15. Thanks everyone, and yeah the mask is normal but the lighting, its surface texture, and the editing make it appear a bit pale. It has more of a matte finish than other masks and so the already diffuse light is scattered more by its surface. In addition to that, I always brighten the images afterwards because of previous complaints, which can affect the contrast and thus the vibrancy of the colors.
  16. This MOC is truly impressive - although I must admit, you already pointed out all the good parts of it in the original post (so I have little to add). It looks great, and perfectly fits in with the MNOG era designs. I think the gears on the legs, however, do not compliment the work as much as those in the torso, head, and wings, because they are on the outside of the limb and not connected to other gears. Gears are needed there, no doubt, but they should be between liftarms, within the limb itself much like the first gear on the wings.
  17. MX5Miata - no, my MOCs shall not be going to Brickfair. Hm, at first my pictures were too big, now they're too small. I guess next time I should do slightly larger ones. Thanks all!
  18. This is truly amazing in terms of aesthetics - the proportions are great and the general design is superb. However, the MOC does not seem very 'poseable'... articulation is hindered and some parts are fragile. But since I'm not playing with it, I guess it should all be the same to me. I would suggest making all connector blocks the same color (dark bluish grey) and having only one type of light grey (no mix of bluish and regular). My rule of thumb is to have each unique piece in a MOC remain the same color - the cam pieces should all be dark bluish grey, and the connector blocks, and the disks on the knees. It helps with the uniformity of the MOC and is less distracting.
  19. Bundalings, you were totally right about the neck. I tried it, and it looks far better. However, it is ironic that I had to cut and glue even more in order to accomplish this with a metru head. I do not know how to lengthen the legs, however...
  20. Thanks TechnicRage, and thanks Chro for providing the link. The mask would perhaps look better with fins, but not with the ones she had; they were too large, particularly for a normally-sized toa build. The "waffle eye" is also undesirable, which is why I had intended to sculpt her a new mask, but I haven't the time to do that anymore. The sculpting projects for Teridax, Kapura, and Vezon are taking long enough to finish....
  21. It's not often that I come across something on which I am compelled to comment, but wow... the ingenuity behind the legs is impressive. Every time I've tried to create a human-proportioned lower leg, I've failed. You have triumphed greatly. The rest of the MOC is good also, although I can't say that I'm a fan of the feet or lower arms (too generic). I would suggest making custom lower arms and smaller feet with more pieces (perhaps starting with a bohrok foot as a base). The head is a predictable choice for Lariska, so of course I would suggest something new, not based off of the vahki head. The matoro armor on the shoulder is good, but I would replace it with something else on the elbows. In the future you may want a couple more pictures, shrunk down a bit, and rotated the right way. Not a big deal, but it helps presentation. Try the program Picasa - you can rotate, crop, etc. and export batches of photos into a new file, resizing them in the process (optionally). Excellent work.
  22. Thanks 1st Shadow, and you're correct - superglue. In fact, there are numerous places on her that I use superglue to either make impossible connections or to hold together weak ones. Ah yes, Chro, the never-ending debate: to modify, or not to modify. Luckily I only customize when it is absolutely necessary to achieve a desired effect. I am currently making Teridax in a form that is to scale with my Nuva, i.e. monstrously huge, and thus there is virtually no modification of parts. And thanks to Takua and Flaredrick, though I don't know how I would lower the heartlight without drilling a hole lover down (something I am quite reluctant to do). As to the gun, it was a five-minute build whipped up so that I could post her with a weapon. It is odd... but any suggestions?
  23. At long last, I have finally completed the Toa with which my Nuva project began: Gali. I first conceived of the general leg design three years ago, and after years of tinkering and collecting pieces from literally around the globe, she is complete. I had planned on sculpting a custom mask, but with my limited time and numerous other projects, I chose to simply alter her original Mistika mask so that it wasn't so horrid. So, without further adieu, I present Toa Gali Nuva in her Mistika form: Click the smaller pictures for larger versions, and click here for the gallery (in which there are pictures of my WIPs that have impeded any rapid progress on a single MOC). So, please comment, critique, and inquire!
  24. Yeah, try making the arms longer. Should the length come from the upper arm or lower arm, or both? How far down do you think the arms should go? As it is, they seem to go down to where a human's should.
  25. Thanks Dual Matrix, that's an awesome feature. And thank you Phantom Terror, and I do agree a bit about the arms... but then again, what other pieces could I use? Were my Matoro's arms better proportioned?
