  1. Thanks all! To answer Ballom, The Renegade Emperor, and Nuparu1995, the mask was done with an exacto-blade. Essentially, I accidentaly damaged the mask a very long time ago (2+ years) and tried to rectify the mistake by making it appear like the Mistika lids of '08. I was then unsatisfied with the colors, and saw that the countdown colors of gold (yellow), silver and black were also in the MOC - so making the most recessed areas yellow, those most prominent black, and the mid-range silver, this pattern was born.It was to supplement the colors that I actually made the holes, so that the gold (yellow) core could be seen. So the process was one of slow evolution; whittling away and painting, then covering with a protective finish. I used acrylic paints.Ballom: yes, I have for years been trying to make a torso that resembled the original. The leg was the first to come, which does to an extent resemble the Nuva leg, and then the chest armor. The lower torso was also an attempt at fixing the chest armor's feminine appearance (which was originally designed with Gali).DARKSIDERZ: I only wish the proportions were human In fact, if I were to make the legs longer, as you suggest, this design would actually be more humanly proportioned. It actually seems like the most ideal MOCs have emulated human form as closely as possible. Thanks again to everyone!
  2. It is very nice, although the back thigh armor is too bulky (the torso armor should be replaced with limb armor, or perhaps just flipped around). The head is neat, but the jaw (is that what it is?) is very strange and just doesn't fit too well. If you want to make more teeth or something to make the head bigger/more menacing, then try to use white teeth/barbs/spikes that are attached closer to the head, like with the barakki. I think that the feet would be better if they had a small armor piece base with spikes/barbs/teeth attached for claws (as they are, they are too big and simple). And the tail would be treat with lots of small, half-socket half-ball pieces, with some armor, so that it can both bend like a real tail and look like a real tail.Overall, this is a very good MOC. Nicely done.
  3. Wow... just, WOW. The colors are perfectly layered. The build is solid, cohesive, and consistent. The proportions are sublime, as are the textures. The guns look great with the all-connector barrel (though might it look better if the round ones were replaced with some axle double-connectors like the two that follow, so that the groove is continuous?). I wish there were some pictures of the back, though. Also, the eyes could use some trans-blue (maybe use a System disk or even a clickits sheet (star-shaped, I think) or perhaps just some plastic lying around cut into the right shape to fit behind the mask). Again, truly fantastic work.
  4. Wow, this is amazing. I wish there were more pictures, though - it would seem as though there isn't much filler between the helmet and the body, which could possibly be done with yellow half-thickness three-length liftarms. I, personally, would have shaved a couple millimeters off of the rear barb connection rod so that it would be flush with the dome stud. But then again, the change in diameter does add extra detail...Anyways, nice work!
  5. Overall, this is incredible. However, there are some minor flaws. The weapons are great in shape, but I don't think that System works here too well, considering how the rest (the pilot being the exception) is pretty much all Bionicle, HF, or Technic. Also, the frost gun is too transparent - add some larger pieces of armoring or tubing that are opaque. You may also want to consider using hints of transparent red on the frost gun and in the cockpit, to match the blade weapon. The legs from behind look strange, unstable, and a bit clumsy. I think you could preserve the great look from the front and improve the back by connecting the black metru leg to the black vahki leg (used as a foot) with a double white connector. Then attach the inika foot armor to the metru leg. The foot is neat, but the heel is a bit bare. Add tires or liftarms, perhaps? The grey technic liftarm on the blade weapon may look better as black. The tubing on the torso may also be better as black. Anyways, this is a superb MOC - the cockpit is genius, the pilot is very creative, and the general color scheme is fantastic. Nicely done!
  6. The overall impression is perfect for Pohatu. It is very true to the original set. Now, the details: the hands are great. The torso could use a bit of filler between the back plate and foot... though it is hard to see exactly what is going on with just the two images. Please post more! The use of black on the limbs is great - but I think it is a bit too much here. The design below would be great for this (in place of the black double connectors), using tan connector blocks in lieu of green. The upper arms could still use what is there, but perhaps with brown inika plates instead of black.Since I can't make out much of the torso, I'm not sure if this is possible... but it would be great if the ball joints used tan bulbs instead of black ones, for consistency. Nice work!
  7. Very creative. The torso and upper limbs are very nice, but the lower limbs could be completely custom. The ball-and-socket joints, I have found, should always be the same combination of one color ball and one color socket. You have many combinations here: green and green, blue and green, green and blue... the neck joint cannot be helped without serious piece modification, so let's ignore that. For everything else, use a green ball-blue-socket combination. It will help get more blue into the torso and help with consistency. To aid the latter further, try getting rid of all obvious black or try to integrate more of it into the limbs. You may be wondering how to make custom lower limbs with green ball joints - you can either make an elbow connection like a typical neck connection, or like a knee connection by shaving off the top of a green ball so that an axle may go right through, and continue as one would with the pre-made red or black ones. Well, excellent work!
  8. Hello BBC visitors! It's been a very long while since I posted this version back in 2010. The main problems: waist was WAY too thin, and no proper hands. After nearly two years of tinkering I have come up with this Nuva form for the 2008 toa (one picture of all of them, not quite done, is available here). My Matoro was close, but the waist was still too thin... so without further ado, I present Toa Ignika: The waist design is what I really struggled with, and it still may need improvement... The glider has had some work, and I am still trying to invent a good midak skyblaster. Hopefully the photography has improved since my last topic. So, please comment, critique, and ask questions.
  9. Wow, great colors and flow. Even more amazing is that it looks like it belongs in the Bionicle world, as opposed to so many vehicles (2008) whose designs rely more on technic than those of the sentient beings, i.e. toa and the like. I think, though, that those zamor holders ought to go. And the "hordika necks" could be replaced with something light grey. Overall, nicely done!
  10. Wow, I was going to comment on a splendid paint-job ... but now a splendid photoshop-job! Nice Gar, and Rahaga Iruni is very similar to one I made and never posted. I used grey L-beams, not black, and the entire torso was flipped the other way (the foot of the Ls pointing up) and used other liftarms to make the torso and leg connector blocks look like a large "C". It looked very movie-like ... but I digress. I suggest you play with that design a bit. Incredible work witht he vahki stars design - the legs look perfect, although the foot connection is strange. Nice work!
  11. The two bulb sockets work the best out of all the variations. Try using bulbs and some tubing to fill in the rest. The others were okay, but stuck out too far. Keep experimenting!
  12. To TNG Prime: the torso actually is quite flat (in terms of protrusion), but it is very rounded. I actually made this design for Gali (who now has the most feminine body but most masculine mask, ironically) and I have yet to find a way of adapting the armor in a way that preserves the uniformity amongst the Toa and still evades that feminine look. The search continues, but I have had great luck with Onua (bulking up his waist and shoulders).Unfortunately resubmission is non-permitted. Thanks all!
  13. Well, this is the first time posting in this forum ... you shall see why I spend my time in the BBC instead.http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Fsnorglepuff/avatars/tahuentry.pngImages over 500 kB should be linked to. -B6Yep, Tahu Nuva with adaptive armor. When I saw the Flash Fire contest, I immediately finished up my MOC of Tahu that I had been working on for the last two years (along with the other 2008 Toa, plus Vezon, Roodaka, Macku, and Kapura) and took some pictures. With hours of editing, here's the result. I had to erase the background, and use Picasa and GIMP in alternating combination to create the poster/oil painting effect. Many details also had to be redone manually, particularly the eyes and heartlight. And due to the lighting at the time of the shot, the armor had to be greyscaled ... what a mess picture editing can be. Anyways, any comments and questions are appreciated.Don't forget to vote in the contest!
  14. Member name: FsnorglepuffEntry Category: Toa (Tahu Nuva, Mistika)Entry URL: http://www.brickshel...s/tahuentry.pngThumbnail URL:http://www.brickshel...rythumbnail.pngTopic: soon to be madeEdit: Topic: http://www.bzpower.c...?showtopic=5875I just read the previous post, too. I encountered a similar dilemma - my Tahu is flying, and I do have ideas for making a base, and will be happy to put one into the image if need be. However, two triangles could be attached to the cutout, one per foot, allowing one to be taller than the other n order to make the support level. This can apply to any entry with uneven feet in a 2D plane. Each of the examples given has a similar problem.
  15. Fantastic work! The hilt is perfect, and the flame/sword portion is good too. However, I wonder if lots, and lots, and LOTS of red 7mm ribbed tubes would have worked better to make the flame. It is impressive what you have done with liftarms, but it looks ... pixelated. I bet using 2 x 1 or 3 x 1 red Technic liftarms with red tubes could accomplish a better flow, and remain sturdy (it probably would flex side-to-side, but it would stay together).Anywhoo, truly amazing MOC.
  16. Very creative! This works far better than a mask does. The color scheme isn't so great though, and a full bulb (not the axle-hole-though-it one) would look better. The eyes may look better as bulbs as well, or a way to incorporate many small transparent ones would be nice (the transparent is a good idea).Anywhoo, excellent design!
  17. Very ... celestial. I like the color scheme and the piece usage for the wings. Overall, a great HF MOC. Also, isn't delightfully ironic when people are themselves incorrect when correcting another? Wrong isn't an adverb, AuRon
  18. Nicely done - not quite how I've always pictured Teridax, but a very excellent MOC nonetheless. The colors are well chosen and layered, the design is mostly great except for the torso - it would have been better without the tridax build. The cape works, but maybe more length would be better. And the wings ... oh the wings. Beauteous. Oh, and it was custom enough besides the cape. Good work.
  19. Thanks all. To The CryoMancer - yeah, I think the feet are fairly good as they are, yet I too find a problem with the hands. I tried more dainty and pointed fingers, but it just didn't work with the feet. I'm going to try skeleton minifig arms as fingers next, and thin/point the feet. Whatever I do, the feet and hands must stay consistent.
  20. Whoa, this is one of the best MOCs I have seen ... ever. The flow is incredible, and the use of Technic, System, HF and Bionicle is sublime. To top it off, all designs are utterly unique and consistent throughout the MOC. The arms and legs use similar construction, particularly with HF armor, and it looks amazing. I can only offer a few ideas on color layering. The red, black, grey and hints of green is super, but the various ball and socket joints don't match all the time. The lower leg joint would look better with a pair of red bulbs, instead of the black, axle-though black ones. The weapon attached to the back would look better with a black socket piece. There's really nothing that can be done about the leg/hip connections, as those bulbs are part of the bohrok piece that must remain black. But the ball and socket joint that connects the hip to the torso could use a red bulb instead (and I can't see how the arms are attached). The lower torso could use a couple splashes of red too, maybe the tail ends/spikes (if they come in that color)? Anywhoo, this is a truly stunning MOC and a work of art. Nicely done.
  21. I actually attempted the former of your ideas, but that way the first rod "glowed" blue but the others were dark and dull (being just bits of rod with no opposite light source). So I drilled and performed the latter of your options, i.e. making the rods go all the way through and nearly flush with the chain studs.
  22. Wow, excellent stuff here! The beetle is okay, the kraata thing is neat but would be better with a darker and more solidified color scheme (purple and black, red and black, etc.), the Hydruka could lose the yellow or brown, but don't keep both, and the Voya Nui Matoran ... YES! The colors are fine, actually, if those legs were grey as you wanted to make them. But the mask ... I never realized. I make custom masks and have occasionally molded an existing mask, cast out of epoxy putty, and altered it. Thank you very much for showing that the Volitak could be used fur such a purpose. I'm thinking Helryx ...Anywhoo, the use of that mask is brilliant, and nice work with everything else.
  23. Well, there's really nothing to say except ...AAAAWWWWEEEEESSSSSOOOOOOOMMMMMEEEEE!!!Achm, or may I say, lovely work here. The Wasp is a marvelously ... redone? ... version of Waspix, if that was the set of of which you based it. Regardless, it is far, far better. And the scorpion ... I just want to jump up and say "Whoopie!" due to its sheer glorious existence. This is what lego should be putting on the shelves, not ridiculous "Heroes" or the "Witch Doctor" ... Onto real review ... the wasps head is superb, but the spike on top is a bit strange. maybe a smaller one? Excellent design elsewhere, yet the use of socket parts as armor is, again, distracting. The scorpion isn't a perfect scorpion, but certainly a great crustacean. Maybe a sort of lobster, or maybe something entirely different from any earth organism ...I don't think I could resist buying these if they were in stores. Fine, fine MOCs.
  24. Wow, it's like an alarm clock exploded and took bipedal form. In a very, very good way. Excellent head, excellent, arms, excellent torso and waist. This reminds me of the old days of Bionicle, with the Bohrok Va ... anywhoo, I am especially pleased that all orange is trans-neon orange. You managed to layer it properly too, which is a feat itself considering the lack of variety at hand. The legs ... initially, awesome. Yet upon closer inspection, they are rather unfit. I suggest a different lower leg piece. Pre-bent pieces have never worked for me before, especially as limbs and especially as a limb segment. Overall, superb work.
  25. Hmm, looks like a transformer. I like the overall look, and he does seem sturdy and well constructed. Yet I always seem to be turned off by using socket parts as anything other than socket parts. But hey, at least it's consistent here. And nicely done color scheme too. On closer inspection, he seems very jumbled, as a result of the ball and socket reliance, but again, it is consistent. Maybe some armor to cover up the inner workings (meaning those various limbs that make up much of his body) would give him a more sleek robotic look.Well done.
