  1. Wait, part of your argument is to make G3 more accessible to new fans... but you want it to be a continuation of G1? Those are exactly the opposite of one another... I like G1 as much as the next guy, moreso than G2 even, but going back to it would be a mistake this long after it ended, especially considering how rushed and messy the ending was. The only clean way to continue G1 is to retcon '08,'09 and '10 out of existence, re-do the entire Karda Nui arc and do something entirely different from then on out. That, however, will never happen. G3 should either be a new thing entirely, or a continuation of G2 if anything. Not necessarily- "requels" can still be a continuation, and a whole new story. Star Trek: The Next Generation, for example, was still set in the same universe where Captain Kirk once piloted the enterprise, but moved forward in such a way that you didn't have to be familiar with the old series. While being simultaneously a sequel and a reboot, it stood on its own. I believe a G1 continuation could be very much the same- there would of course be old references, but not in a way that would make them confusing to newcomers- good stories, after all, move forward and not backwards.
  2. @Pohaturon I think, like a few others have expressed, that they should do a continuation of G1 for the next revamp. That would place the Mata as a supporting cast, still "there" as the same characters long time fans know and love, but give room to explore some more- bring in a new cast, so both newcomers and old alike can, by proxy through the new "Toa", explore this new world.
  3. I don't think they should bring back the old cast- at least, not as the main heroes- they should use the next revamp to start fresh, and not be tied down to the old story. Sure, the Mata may have some nostalgia to them... but nostalgia for who? Certainly not for the target audience. 8-14 year olds will be too young to know the original Toa by name (if at all). Bionicle never really got the pop culture recognition it could have, like Transformers now does, or Star Wars does- casual and even non-fans of bigger series know Optimus and Vader by name, even if they've never seen a single movie or show. But with Bionicle, most casual fans only knew Tahu as "the red one". While I think that, sure, the Toa Mata could cameo as Turaga, or maybe be some sort of legendary hero (or even as a titan set), the new heroes should reflect a new start, and the next revamp (if it ever happens) shouldn't feel bound to the same story- stories are the best, in my opinion, when they are free...
  4. I actually agree with Tuuli- If it's not going to be a continuation, the Mata's shouldn't be around. And I think that a few other posters here are wrong in saying it would "no longer be BIONICLE" if the Mata's weren't there. After all, during the Inika, Mahri, and Glatorian years, the Mata weren't featured and it was still very much BIONICLE. One could argue that the one common character throughout the whole story was Mata-Nui, and thus without Mata-Nui BIONICLE would cease to be BIONICLE, yet when G2 came around, it was also still BIONICLE even with Mata Nui's absense. I suppose this really opens up a discussion about what makes BIONICLE what it is, because it certainly isn't the Toa Mata, nor is it necessarily about Mata-Nui. There's probably a lot of room to shake things up and still keep something "BIONICLE", and yes, I do believe that even includes bringing in an all-new cast, even changing the "elements" up a bit, or even switching the number of heroes from 6 to 5, or even 4, or maybe even 7. Why get tied down to the same old things? What made BIONICLE exciting at first was the sense of discovery, and if all we ever get is the same old stuff again and again, then I think that is when it ceases to be BIONICLE. BIONICLE was always at it's best when it was unexpected, and new. That's what I liked about it as a kid, and that's what was missing from G2- the sense of discovery, like this place was something "real", that needed to be explored. If they try again, I hope that's what comes back- I think that's what BIONICLE really is about- discovery. ANd you can't discover an old world, but only a new one...
  5. I think really that 6 elements is too much. I think they should re-format for 5 different elements, like the classical Chinese elements of Earth, Fire, Water, Wood, and Steel. I think that would be cool - next reboot, do a Far Eastern theme using only 5 heroes.
  6. This is what I gathered form BS01: --The Vahi comes into existence. Since it is older than the stars, it has to come first. --At some point in the distant past, the elements themselves magically create the mysterious island of Okoto. --The elements are: (1) stone, (2) earth, (3) water, (4) fire, (5) jungle, (6) ice, (7) light, and (8) shadow. --In addition to the island, 7 creatures are created from stone, earth, water, fire, jungle, ice, and light to be the avatars of their respective elements. Shadow, in response, creates Umarak the Hunter to oppose and hunt the creatures. --The Temple of Time is either created from the elements as well, or the Okotoans build it as their first temple. The Mask of Time somehow then arrives at the Temple. --Okotoans either are also formed from the elements, or migrate from another location. --Okotoans build the Labyrinth of Control --The Capitol City is built. --The City of the Mask Makers is built. --The Skull Raiders invade the island from a different location. --The islanders live in harmony, along with the Mask Makers Makuta and Ekimu. So there are a few things I'm wondering about: 1. We know the Skull Army is not native to Okoto (presumably they sailed to the island from elsewhere). Does this mean there is a mainland on this planet inhabited by skeleton people? Why did they come to Okoto? How did they know about it? And, if they did know about beforehand, how is it that no one else has come to Okoto in its several thousand years of recored history? Ultimately, what were they hoping to get out of coming to Okoto? 2. How did the Okotoans get to Okoto? Were they created from the elements too? Did the Great Beings put them there? Did they sail to the island from another location? Who told them then that there would be a rich island in the middle of the ocean? 3. Also: are the Mask Makers just skilled Okotoans? Or are they a whole other race? Is that ever explained? Is Makuta an earth villager and Ekimu a water one? 4. What's with those 2 moons anyway? One thing I'll say I don't like so much about G2 is there's no Greg to ask.
  7. I have this set. Personally, I wish I had gotten the Death Trooper instead. K-2SO, while having a great unique build and being a goldmine for some cool technic parts, isn't really too fun. He doesn't pose well, and the way his hips are constructed limits the ways in which he can move his legs. The action feature is pretty fun, so for play purposes he's probably a blast, but I got him for display, and I just think his whole slender-man stick-insect vibe I get from him just doesn't look like the coolest thing on my bookshelf. Score: 5.5/10. Great construction, great parts, but not as cool as I thought it would be.
  8. You go live your life. Find a passion, get a job, read a book, take a walk, find love, lose love, blah blah blah. Make a positive difference in the world, I say. There's more to life than BIONICLE. Let it go, looking back with fond memories, and move forward. BIONICLE is dead, and BZPower seems to be following suit, sadly. And this time, I don't think there'll be a glorious (or not-so-glorious) comeback. Sad to say, but that's the direction this is going. All new endings are beginnings for something new, though, right? That's a BIONICLE quote, right? Open a new chapter..
  9. I think there's potential to tell a story that's unique, but still has the atmosphere of BIONICLE. This time around, it would be interesting to see what is would be like if we used the 5 Chinese Elements instead (Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, Wood) with sub-elements being controlled by the 5 main heroes. Afterman...the name needs work, but I like the idea of a world where our legacy lives on after we have died out in these quasi-machines we have created...
  10. I was looking for an old post I made on a topic about the villages of secondary element matoran, and could not find it in my profile. It looks like the topic itself has been deleted (is that even possible?). If this is the case, it there a way to retrieve it to find the old posts?
  11. Based on what we saw of G2's run, what sort of Story and Sets do you think would have been in the "last" year of BIONICLE G2? Would the Uniters have carried over? Or would the Toa get another upgrade? Would it have been a 1/2 year, or a full year with 2 waves? Other than the Makuta, would there have been other Titans? Would Makuta have lived, bit the dust, or turned good (like Garmadon)?
  12. The Re-Formed Spherus Magna. You get everything great about BIONICLE, conveniently all on the same planet!
  13. In some ways, I too preferred the abstract hands. 1. You could flip a sword from an overhand to an underhand grip without actually taking the weapon off the hand (and without worrying about the "thumb" facing the wrong way). 2. Because of the second position for holding the sword, there was a wider range of motion from the wrist. 3. The abstract hand could be seen either as a fist, or an open palm (though more often the latter it seems). With the new hands, there's only one interpretation. 4. The new fists are often much bigger, and thus are more apt to look oversized on smaller characters (such as the protectors). 5. Each set has much more limited MOC piece potential because of the lack of connection points and awkward shape of the new hand pieces.
  14. I'm late to the party, but isn't Bo- already the "canon" one? I mean, that's what the BIONICLE wikia and BS01 say at least...
  15. What fan theory would perfectly unite Slizers (Throwbots), RoboRiders, BIONICLE (G1), Hero Factory, and BIONICLE (G2) into a singe cohesive story/universe?
  16. C'mon LEGO, why ya gotta be a bunch of buzz kills? Where else am I gonna get my discount STAR WNRS stuff?
  17. I remember being so upset when I read about the Piraka killing that matoran. Fortunately, the Piraka got their comeuppance...I think...right?
  18. I think you're reading too much into a children's story. This isn't like Yu-Gi-Oh!, with rich complex themes about friendship and the fate of the heart of the cards or whatever, but this is a line of plastic toys. Nope. I'd rather put my faith in a line of colored reinforced paper that I feel obsessed to collect, because heart of the cards or something. Nope. I don't think protodermis was meant to be alchemical. Perhaps parallels can be made, but just by how it's introduced in the story makes it seem like something else. I works more like it's the magical blood of Mata-Nui, but originally all protodermis (both energized and otherwise) was simply a natural resource on Spherus Magna, not a magically imbued mercury. And since protodermis has at least two states of matter (solid and liquid) at regular temperature (how exactly is not explained), and quicksilver tends to have one state of matter at regular temperatures, the two can't possibly be of the same substance. I think Protodermis...is just protodermis. Otherwise these quasi-organic beings would be hesitant to hang around a toxic substance (not to mention: in MNOG the Onu-Koro miners describe the solid version of protodermis as and "organic" layer they cannot penetrate - implying that Protodermis is somehow either composed of organic compounds or is itself a living thing). So perhaps in the mythical sense protodermis may function similarly to a fantastical version of mercury, in-story I think that it is something entirely different that only exists in their world.
  19. I'll approach this from a mythological perspective. In the archetype myth, every hero must undergo an "underworld" journey. This theme recurs often in BIONICLE: 2001- descent into the Mangaia 2002- The Bahrag's lair 2003- Takanuva in the Lair of Makuta BIONICLE however is a continuing story, meaning that the 9 year arc must have a deepest of teh deepest point in the story. Enter the Pit. In archetype myths, the descent into the "underworld" often has water as a symbol. Also, the Pit is akin to Tartarus or Abaddon, in that it holds the worst criminals and monsters in this mythology. The Pit is the perfect allegory of the underworld journey. 2007 arguably has the darkest story as well, where one of our six main heroes dies a permanent death. While other years have a moment of crisis, the stakes were never higher than they were in 2007. Thus, I would say that Voya Nui is the first step after the call to action in the Hero's journey of the Chronicler's company, and their descent to Mahri Nui is their descent into the underworld, a place that demands the sacrifice of one of their own before they can escape...
  20. LEGO could try something new again. BIONICLE was pure inspiration from the muses (really- if you look up how it all came to be, the story is phenomenal). Lightning can strike more than once, but it's unlikely that it always has the same effect. Let the muse come to them, and put BIONICLE to rest: it served its purpose, saving LEGO. Maybe it's time to move on and try something different and new. After this last G2, I don't know if you can catch lightning in the same bottle twice. Get a new bottle, and create a new legend instead...
  21. If it did come back, it would need to build up a fan base that could compete with other brands. The mistake with G2 is that they didn't lead with a TV show (and Netflix won't cut it- they need specials on Cartoon Network or Nick. That's really where the excitement for Ninjago comes from). So next time, I think they need a fresher start: I'd forget about having the main six as the main Toa, and instead have an all new troupe in a island tribal setting. And this time, really make it like the consumer is the toa, or the villager; they are a participant in this world, having the journey by proxy. The major villain needs to be established as threatening and menacing from the get go, while still retaining an air of mystique. More world building, and maybe fewer sets: maybe cut the team down to 5, or 4, so the risk is lower. Needs an exploration-type game like MNOG, or some app game that lets you roam the island doing fun stuff and learning about the world. One reason I think G2 failed was because it felt...kiddie. Kids actually can deal with mature themes and tales. Not like R-rated stuff, but stuff that's serious. In fact, I think they prefer them: if the story weighs the stakes, and they are heavy, kids feel the gravitas of the situation, and it means something to them. I feel that was the difference between G1 and G2: maturity. Marketing: G2 had none, it felt like, and the commercials were lame. They didn't let you see the world. It felt generic, and it felt kiddie, and it felt dumb. I wouldn't buy the toys from the commercials if I were a kid. The trailers in G1 were basically short films in themselves, little snippets of what this world is like...it made you believe they were real, their personas, their lives. Very dramatic and cinematic marketing. In short, G1 itself was first marketed in the same way you would market a movie- making this world seem cinematic made kids want to buy the toys, either thinking that they were based on a movie, or that a movie was soon to come. Fundamentally, I think kids will always be the same- tomorrows kids at their core will be the same as we were. It's just a matter of knowing: what got us as kids? Why did we like what we did? Figure that, and it's possible BIONICLE can use that to return. Reconvincing the retailers? That's another thing...
  22. For G1 at least, I think the Biological Chronicle is referring to the story of Mata-Nui himself. In the grand scope of G1, it is Mata-Nui who ends up saving the day, and the whole story really does revolve around him. Thus, when Mata-Nui's story was over, so was BIONICLE.
  23. Maybe it works in the reverse: The BIONICLE planets exist in the Hero Factory galaxy, and *plot twist* the Hero Factory people *are* the great beings, and they also built the Roboriders and the Slizers.
