  1. Well, probably because it's hard enough to think of one sub-element. It seems a little overpowered if by, say, 2018, the Toa each have four elemental powers and can pretty much crush anything that faces them. The only way to keep it balanced would be to have impossibly powerful villains or element-cancelling abilities (like Kabrua, the Bohrok Kal, or Marendar). Even if it takes them days of meditation and hundreds of battles, the story needs to move on from year to year, and we can't wait for them to gain new powers. Sorry, I should have made it clearer, but I meant that a toa can only learn one of the sub-elements or power up of their element, not all of them. This of course assumes new toa will be included as the story progresses, but it means that each toa of fire would have different capabilities and not just be the same. That's what I meant by it's defined by personality, each toa must find their own way of interpreting their element and by this understanding, they access one of the sub-elements or special powers of that element. For example, in my idea for Fire, Toa Tahu, the hot headed but well intentioned warrior that he is, learns to focus and purify the intense power of raw heat and learns to use plasma while the much more focused and self-controlling Toa Lhikan would have the mental focus and finesse to create and control lightning through his fire powers.
  2. What? Lightning might produce plasma, and electricity can be created as a side effect of plasma production but they are not the same thing. Anyway, I have had some thoughts on this general topic in the last while, and I always do enjoy a good discussion on elements in fantasy. 1) Why does each element of toa only get one power up/ secondary element? Why not two or three options, and the individual's personality helps push them towards learning one or the other. I particularly had an idea that each element could gain a secondary element or a power based on the first element. For example, toa of stone could either manipulate metal or become a stronger, tougher warrior, drawing on the strength of stone. I didn't came up with all the elements, but I did fire, which could either learn lightning powers or plasma, which is treated as an extension of their fire powers; and I did Earth, which could either gain Gravity or a power called Geokinesis, which allowed them to move solid objects that weren't made of earth but were on the same solid surface as the toa. 2) Alternatively, rather than each sub-element only being aligned to one element, all but one element can use each sub-element. For example Jungle can't gain the sub-element of Metal, but all other sub-elements are open to them as options, however they can only choose one sub-element, EVER, unless some supernatural power intervenes. Other limitations could be that Water cannot gain Lightning powers or Ice cannot gain plasma powers. 3) It probably couldn't hold it's own as it's own element, but could oil, like the hydrocarbon variety, and all it's similar substances be a secondary element? 4) Why do people treat Gravity merely as a disabler of movement? It can do so much more, such as throwing people together, increasing training difficulties to become stronger and faster, changing your gravity to walk on walls, leap across cities or float in the air? It seems a waste just to have it limited to, *crash*, 'you can't walk any more!'
  3. So wait, is the toa of magnetism still alive or did he die? I don't mind either, but which is it? Also, when's book two starting?
  4. I was thinking of something like this when I was reading through this topic. I think it would be a great idea to not only keep the Gen 2 Toa in the story, it would also give them new powers to use, which keeps them interesting in the story IMO. Or maybe the Toa could have two elements each. Like Lewa having Air and Plantlife elemental powers, or Kopaka having Ice and Gravity powers, just to name a couple examples. That is just my thought on this. To address the topic, I wouldn't mind more elements being added into the story. But I would wait to introduce them until at least the third year of the story or after that, if the line continues into 2018 and/or beyond. Well this does lead to a point that has been raised on at least one other thread, that maybe like advanced bending techniques in Avatar the Last airbender. Maybe when a toa gets to a certain level of skill and experience, they can learn new powers associated with their element or new, but related elements. I can't quite remember what was suggested for each element, but it does seem like an interesting idea, the only problem is that I like having toa of different elements more than the enhanced elements idea.
  5. Yeah they are, in fact they're more like zit cream than antibodies.
  6. One of the better humanised toa I've seen. Most are somewhat disappointing, but this is actually quite awesome. Strangely the other one is a low tech one where everyone is maori/polynesian in ethnicity.
  7. We should call the protector of fire Zuko, the protector of stone Brock, the Protector of Jungle Tarzan, Etc. I don't mind either way, as long as their not just called the protector of 'my tribe's element'.
  8. Um, two words: Tren Krom! Actually, the organic being looks familiar some where, maybe it's just the humoanoid appearnce. Also reminds me of a frog for some reason. Plus, I love how awesome the toa are getting.
  9. I like, are you doing any other makuta?
  10. Yeah, it's not sidorak, but maybe a friend or something?
  11. Considering it's power is basically to allow you to control another individual against their will, why is this mask not considered immoral by toa?
  12. Some more Kanohi ideas I had today: 79) Kanohi Rahiko -Mask of Totem.- The users is symbolical linked to one kind of Rahi, sentient plant or other none sapient being based on their personality, which their totem. When used, the user lose all their other powers and their current weapons vanish, and are transformed to look more like their totem. The user now has the power to summon, banish, control, communicate with, heal, sense the presence of, resist damage from and heal faster from wounds of that particular totem, the user also gains all physical adaptations and powers that permit the totem to live in their natural environment. The noble version has a ten minute maximum time and it's powers are lessened. Most versions of the mask look like a plain oval with two eye holes, unless designed to look like a kanohi. The appearance of the mask changes when the user first uses it to become more like their totem. 80) Kanohi Gedani - Mask of Loyalty - Means that friends and allies develop a psychological barrier against any attempt to betray you, also improves attempts to secure alliances. The Noble version only makes it psychological harder for allies to betray you. 81) Kanohi Jutesida - Mask of Geas - The user can limit them self from certain actions in exchange for new powers or enhancing pre-existing capabilites. If the user commits that banned action, they lose the power up. The Noble version can only empower the user to a noble level. 82) Kanohi Lemtik - Mask of Names - Allows the user to known the name of any object they see and no what the basic facts on something or someone whose name they hear or read. You cannot learn facts from names unless an outside force tells you of the name and the mask will always give the same information with each name or synonym of a name. The Noble version gives less information when encountering a new name. 83) Kanohi Zacozsi - Mask of Twister - Spins the user around creating a twister that they can control, think Taz from Loonie toons. When they are finished in this form, the user can send the twister away in one direction causing chaos and destruction. The Noble version only allows the user to turn into such a form for several seconds. 84) Kanohi frexfiwnia - Mask of confusing anarchy and chaos - causes a tempory twisting and bending of the laws of physics as long as the user focuses. What changes occur is unpredicted and non-living objects are kowwn to transform randomly and spontaneously. The Noble version has a limit of 30 seconds. Toa consider this power immoral due to it disrupting nature. 85) Kanohi Maratio - Mask of Deception - Makes the user better at lying and deception through other means, while supernaturally enhancing the belief others have in their attempts at trickery and falsehood. The Noble version only enhances their users abilities. Toa consider it immoral due to it's encouraging of acts that the user has to hide through lying. 86) Kanohi Ticomo - Mask of Memories - Allows the user to alter the memories of targets, deleting, restoring, altering or adding new memories. The Noble version only allows alteration and restoration. Toa do no consider this mask immoral in itself, but selfish or frivolous use of it's power is immoral. 87) Kanohi D'hime - Mask of Grace - Gives the user impeccable balance, manners and poise, makes them and any thing they make better looking and makes move with a near impossible grace. The Noble version only gives lesser benefits. 88) Kanohi Haque - Mask of Rumours - Allows the wearer to know who is talking about them and where they are. The Noble version only reveals that people are talking about you and their direction. Both versions make the user sneeze more often for some reason. 89)Kanohi Beshiti - Mask of Limbs - Gives the wearer as many extra pairs of limbs as they wish, as long as they have space on the body. The user can remove or add limb pairs as they like. The noble version only allows additional limbs equal to how many natural limbs they possess. 90) Kanohi Ny'zuva - Mask of Sanctuary - When the wearer first wears this mask, it registers that location as their 'save point'. When the mask is later used, the wearer is instantaneously teleported to that site. If the Kanohi is stored in the Suva of a user, it over writes the old 'save point' and chooses the suva as the new 'save point'. The Noble version takes some time to return the user back to their 'save point'. 91) Kanohi Quembo - Mask of Banishment - Banish a target to some distant location, up to 50 kio away, that while it won't kill them or permanently trap them, will stop them from returning within one hour of normal travel, the mask has a cool down time equal to twice as many seconds as kios that the last target was banished to. The Noble version can only banish up to 1 kio and takes a whole 30 seconds to cool down. 92) Kanohi Valmai - Mask of Accursed Place - The user activates this mask, which creates an obelisk some where the user can see. The obelisk is now bound to the user and will drain the land around one kio from the obelisk of energy, sucking the nutrients out of plants, draining powers from objects with temporary power like kanoka or batteries, causing elemental powers to require more power, and draining the excess, making poisons and acids more dangerous and degrading non-living or protodermis made objects and send all that energy to the user. If they are thirsty, the obelisk will drain nearby water, and if the need fresh air it will take it from the air around the obelisk. If the Obelisk or mask is destroyed the effect ends. Each user can have up to 3 obelisks, that cannot be within 2.5 kio of each other. When the Great version is removed it only stops draining the land of energy. If the kanohi gets a new wearer, they are not able to draw from the old obelisks, but these do not count to the obelisks they can draw from. The noble version can only control 1 obelisk, the user cannot draw from it power from it if over 500 kio, cannot take water or air, and the obelisk is destroyed if the user removes the mask. Toa consider this mask immoral
  13. Okay, easy way to figure out whether or not the main reason for this thread, the combing of certain elements, like ice and water or earth and stone. It's a concept by brother introduced to me called physical or conceptual magic. Basically, physical magic is magic defined by the laws of physics while conceptual magic is more powers based on an idea. A good example is a lightning bolt, in order to make a visible bolt of lightning that can go about 10m with physical magic, it would have to have many millions of volts and would kill anyone instantaneously that it hit. On the other hand, conceptual magic could make a visible bolt of lightning that could stun a person or only mildly hurt them. So how does this relate to Bionicle elements? Well, for my example we'll need to create a hypothetical element of crystal and compare it with rock and stone: In conceptual magic, Toa of Earth or Stone would have the powers as defined in universe, manipulating particles of the ground of different size. A toa of crystal would probably have powers based off of jewels and crystals found in the ground and probably glass due to it's association with crystals. They can't control ice, as that has it's own element, or rocks and stone, as they are their own elements. With Physical magic, there is no real difference between Earth and Stone, and the elements would become one, they could probably control clay as well. Crystal would however be able to control gemstones, crystals, ice (as it is a crystal form of water) and most forms of earth minerals (since a rock is scientifically defined as a collection of crystal minerals that are bound together to form a solid mixture) barring clay and magma. They could not control glass, even natural glass like obsidian as that is an amorphous solid and not a crystal. So do people prefer conceptual, or physical elemental powers? The first would keep stone and earth as difference elements, the later would fuse them into one.
  14. My family has been into Lego for longer than either my brother or I have been around. So of course we got each of the slizer's and robo-riders as my brother and I where interested in them. Now something I remember they used to do was include little sheets, that advertised similar sets, in the box of any set. And there we saw the pictures of six bio-mechanical warriors now known as the toa mata. We bought them as soon as they came out. It did actual help our collections that we lived in Windsor, England at the time and they have a Lego land there.
  15. As for what Banhi and Trux' Kanohi are... how should I know? If you need any inspiration, I designed a load of kanohi a while back, you're free to use them as you see fit.
  16. Love this story, but I do have two questions: What are Vesta's and Albus's back stories? Where did they become toa and how did they help in setting up Miro Nui? What are the Kanohi of Banhi and Trux? If you choose to make either answers in story and not post them, here I understand.
  17. When did Greg Farshtey do a debate on alternative elements? I'm curious and I'll look it up for myself if you can give some more pointers, and I caould probably find it out tonight if I start now. @ The Irrational Rock, I would make the prefix of acid Hy or Arr, Hy after hydrogen, which is the element that helps defines most acids, and Arr after Svante Arhenius, who gave one of the first definitions for acids.
  18. I do find myself been won over by the arguments against turning Sonics into kinetic energy as an element, and while I'm seeing the merit of keeping gravity and magnetism as different elements, I don't see any point of making the latter a part of electricity if we're not going for scientifically accurate with the elements, and I do feel that there is enough difference between them. Although I do have some questions: 1) How do people actually feel about kinetics as an element? I do feel some hate and dislike towards the idea. 2) What about acid as an element? 3) Does anyone have any other ideas for elements. 4) @Regitnui, How are water and psionics similar elements.
  19. 1) Okay, the people who care most about the story are us fans on sites like BZpower, who seem to be a wide range of ages and genders beyond 8-12 year old boys, so they would appreciate more female characters in the setting. I mean, we never saw any female skakdi in G1, which considering how much more ferocious than the males, would have been interesting. 2) Also, I think the exact recommended age is 8-12, so you know, they kind of have to start growing out of 'girls are icky', and nonhuman female characters who kick but is, I think anyway, a good way to start that. 3) It's feminist to have more active female characters in a setting. Now, back to what we would like for storybuilding; If more elements do get included, how about acid as an element for once.
  20. That would actually make sense. My theory was it was just like the philosophers of Ancient Greece, coming up with new ideas an thoughts on the world, but them acting as Mata Nui's brain does make more sense.
  21. I have two thoughts on the elements in the matoran universe and how in my opinion they could be altered: 1) Turn sonics into Kinetics. I never saw the point of it being so limited, and by turning it into Kinetic energy, you could retain the sound based powers, as sound waves are just simply movement of air particles or other mediums in the form of a repeating wave. It would also give the user powers like the ability to stop enemy attacks by taking all the kinetic energy from them as they swing their weapons or speeding themselves up and speeding up allies, and these are from the limits. There is also the fact that De-Matoran would not have that strange weakness to their own elemental and instead could be given a more useful manifestation of their element like enhances speed. The major problems with this is that any being with kinetics elemental powers could absorb the force from direct blows to them and that could easily make a character over powered, however, any user of power like fire, plasma, gravity, magnetism, acid or anything that could damage and disable with direct movement could deal which such a being, The Toa Inika where able to defeat Vezon when he had Kinetic absorption as a power. 2) Make Gravity and Magnetism one element. Let me explain, the only difference in their powers is that magnetism can attract object towards each other and disable certain electronics. Now Gravity could never disable electronics like magnetism can, but that factor of magnetism potential never occurred in any Bionicle story. Now anyone who studies physics can tell you that Gravity is the attraction between two objects due to their masses. So any being with gravity powers, and two brain cells, can just disengage a target from the planet's gravity and increase the force of gravity they experience to another object, and watch as the target flies towards the second object and stays attached to it. The only advantage magnetism has in such a situation is that it can give one of the targets a magnetic charge that will last without them focusing on it while the the gravity user in the same situation would have to focus on the target, and this situation is only valid if either one of the targets is made of a magnetically attracted material, like most inhabitants of the Matoran Universe. Final, both Gravity and Magnetism are fundamental forces according to science and theoretically the Great Being could have used what ever power they used to create elemental powers to merge these two powers into one element. so what does everyone think of my ideas. I don't mind if you think they're good or bad, just as long as you have some reason for your point of view.
  22. Spike tribe, nice colours and their little scorpion is so cute.
  23. My partents had Duplo bricks to entertain my brother and I when we were kids, but the first set the I specifically owned was a rock raiders set if I recall correctly, I don't remember which one but I know it was rock raiders due to it having a proper rock monster.
