  1. My cousin made Olympic qualifying in 10,000 m, but it ended there.

Too bad the Paralympics aren't on TV in the US, but since the Chinese (and plenty others) are clobbering us, I'm not too disappointed.

Good luck to Zack Abbot and the rest of the team.

Holy cow, who is your cousin??? Was it this year?

They actually have a lot of places online that are doing live streams or have recordings of various sessions, you just have to search for it. Apparently NBC is doing hour long recaps, but I guess they're filled more with fluff stories than actual footage, which is kind of annoying when you want to see proper footage.

  2. Oftentimes, you can purchase an older edition of the book, and it is way cheaper, too! The updates they do to differentiate the 14th, 15th, and 16 versions of a book are sometimes really just updating a few stock images, a new cover, three extra added lines of text, and a $50-$100 difference. Usually checking with the professor or students who have already taken the class on this is the best.

There's also a lot of good websites out there that people can sell their textbooks after they have used them that can be really inexpensive compared to the original price. You have to make sure that you purchase it in time for it to get to you, but you can find books that are basically brand new or gently used for a fraction of the price. The only thing you have to keep an eye on is the condition of the book, because sometimes there are some really beat up copies. I think most sites have a book condition status by them, so you won't end up buying a book that claims to have a little bit of wear and tear, only to find out that it's being held together entirely by tape.

(buying books online can also be really nice because sometimes you get ones that the previous owner has highlighted all the key info in for you!)

Sometimes the school library or the local town library also may have the textbook(s) you need, and you can just keep renewing the book until the end of term. This can be kind of tricky, as other people might be attempting to check out the book as well, but if you can pull it off, hey, free textbook for the term!

Electronic versions also can be good. I know DeeVee has purchased the electronic versions of books and then just read them on his computer. Some people print them out, but (at least for me), the prospect of printing out a 600+ page book would probably cost more in time, ink, and paper in the long run.

Buddying up with another student or friend and splitting the book cost together and doing a sort of time share with it can work, but it tends to be the best option if you're living with that person, they're you're next door neighbor, or study with them a lot. On this note, it also is surprising the amount of people or friends who will just straight-up let you borrow their textbook for the term at no cost, especially if they have taken the class prior to you taking it.

Oh, and this is more for your second term/semester, but find out if people know other people who are currently in a class you are taking the next term. Talk to them to see if they are planning on selling their books is another way to get books on the cheap because they'll often sell them for much lower prices in order to get rid of them.

  3. It's frustrating too that the year they botched so much stuff in how they showed it was the year that they actually had some really fantastic announcers who knew what they were talking about for the competitions for once. Hopefully they will at least continue that in 2016, because it's nice to listen to announcers who know the difference between events and are able to explain them in understandable terms.

  4. The host nation enjoys an automatic entry into all events. Therefore, much like Australia’s most successful Team in Sydney 2000, Team Great Britain is poised to be one of the largest with over 500 athletes.

This is the main reason that the have the number of athletes they have for this particular Olympics. Team Great Britain also has an increasing number of high-quality foreign-born athletes who compete for them, whether for political issues with their own country, dual citizenship, their home country is a British overseas territory and cannot send their own Olympic team, etc.

  5. Here is an excerpt from a review Ken C. wrote about this Super Walmart:

Clean and modern, this is the only Supercenter that I'm aware of in the immediate area.

The grocery section is full of fresh fruits and vegetables. There are also plenty of non-perishable goods, from soda, to chips and Pop-Tarts.

There's a Subway inside, which is nice if you like Subway (I don't).

Who is Ken C.? No idea. But he wrote a review for this particular Super Walmart, gave it 4/5 stars, does not like Subway, writes reviews that are very well though out and thorough, and is a huge Star Wars fan, so I respect his opinion (and will probably spend a good amount of time getting food from this Walmart, because restaurants like to lace things with dairy and I don't want to spend the week in a half-awake, dairy-induced stupor).

    Awesome!

  6. Is that one of the new blues? It looks more like Medium Blue, or maybe Maersk Blue. I suppose it could just be the lighting.

It's whatever the light blue is in the London Tower Bridge set is. It's less sky blue in real life than it appears in this photo.

  7. I want to see you wear that around. ;) That's a lot of that new blue, which I think compliments the red nicely.

And oh man BrickFair! Can't wait!

I wish! It actually is the size of my real shoe, which is a 7.5, so in theory it could fit my foot if the entire front part wasn't solid LEGO pieces because it kept collapsing.

The only reason I'm using the new blue is because of all the London Bridge speed builds, lol. I would never have enough of it otherwise. Who knew that's how I would end up using those particular parts!
