  1. AAAAAAAAAHHH! I literally just got around to listening to the Mask of Light soundtrack today; it filled me with nostalgia, and there could legitimately be no better time than this for me to learn that the other two are on their way They don't quite have the massive nostalgia value for me that MoL does - in spite of the first movie's... many deficiencies - but I eagerly await them, all the same! ^^
  2. Finally got around to listening to the Mask of Light soundtrack. I am now having SERIOUS nostalgia for that movie, don't mind me xD

  3. Um. Is it just me, or does Unikitty's voice sound way different than it did in the movie? Does she have a different actress here? Also... I dunno, something about this feels off to me. It's like the show's drawing too heavily on the vein of things like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Star Vs. The Forces of Evil. Neither of which are bad shows at all, but... I'd much rather see Unikitty making more of an effort to be unique. I guess Cartoon Network would rather reply on the tried and tested approach, since both those shows seem to be massively popular, and I can understand that; but it just doesn't feel, to me, like such an approach does this character justice. Maybe she'll become more like the character I loved in The LEGO Movie as the series progresses, I dunno; but from just that clip, Unikitty looks like she's basically become a Lego cat version of Star Butterfly. It's in the way she talks, and the way she acts, and... it's entertaining, sure, but she just doesn't feel like a unique character to me anymore :/ That being said, my only real quibble with it is that it feels too much like the show's trying to copy other things, rather than being its own thing. And I'm aware that I'm well outside the target audience, too; I'm sure kids are gonna love this show, and that's what counts ^^ And besides, if we get new Unikitty merchandise out of it? That's always a plus xD
  4. Personally, I'd be most interested in seeing movies for the '90s themes that I grew up with. A Lego Adventurers Movie; a Lego Rock Raiders Movie; a Lego Ninja Movie based on the '98 theme... those would be the big three for me, honestly. I know there's absolutely no profit to be made from old themes like that, especially since a lot of AFOLs I've noticed seem to regard that era as Lego's big "dark age", but my nostalgic self would definitely invest in those. Or maybe just a Lego '90s Movie in general, that crosses over all those old themes, the way the comics in Lego World Club / Lego Mania magazine always used to. Again, not plausible as it only targets the very small nostalgic niche... but this thread is for what we'd like to see, not what we expect to see xD In terms of what's plausible, I imagine Lego's just going to go back to licensed themes for their movies from here on out, given that the one based on one of their own didn't seem to take off. In that case... well, I'd totally be interested in a Lego Harry Potter Movie, especially after the cameos by Dumbledore and Voldemort, respectively, in the first two Lego movies. I can't say I can really see that happening, either, but... I can dream, right? xD
  5. I kinda want to say the Barraki cannisters were my favourites. Sure, they didn't serve any functional purpose - and you couldn't easily fit a set back inside for storage without some serious dismantling, Kalmah's shoulders in particular being too wide for the opening when he was assembled - but from a solely aesthetic standpoint? They were by far and away my favourite it terms of appearance. Functionally, the Mata canisters are classic, so I've got to second everyone who said them, too. As for least? I was never really a fan of the Inika canisters, or... any of the similarly-shaped ones that came after them, really. I liked the more unique shapes of the pre-06 (and Barraki) cannisters; once being more rectangular started becoming the standard, they quickly lost any interest to me.
  6. I always liked them! The Kal arc was my favourite for a while when I was younger - the challenge of the Toa being rendered powerless, and the idea of them eventually defeating the Kal in such a unique way, were really interesting to me. As for the sets, well... It never bothered me that they were clones, though that may have been because I only had one Bohrok set before them, and didn't get the rest until I became a completionist a few years later, so it didn't occur to me at the time. In fact... truth be told, I always thought that the Kal were more aesthetically pleasing than the classic Bohrok; Nuhvok-Kal and Lehvak-Kal got a lot more love than my normal Tahnok when I was a kid, for certain. The silver-and-single-colour worked for them, and... like someone above said, there was a sense of personality to the sets that (I felt, at least) the original Bohrok had lacked. If you gave me a choice now, I'd still pick one of the Kal over a classic Bohrok set. That said, some innovation in the design wouldn't have gone amiss. Maybe the head and mechanism could have stayed, but perhaps if something different had been done with the torso construction or... I dunno, I'm no set designer xD
  7. No problem ^^ Glad I could be a bit of help! If I remember correctly - it has been maybe fifteen years since I saw the comic - the first part of it had him meeting Jala, and having a brief run-in with a Muaka, before Jala led him to Ta-Koro... so the continuity kinda conflicted with MNOG there. And in the second part, I seem to recall him saving Ta-Koro from a lava flood; and then the final two pages were composed of a set of individual panels, each showing a different one of the Toa and where they were at the time.
  8. No problem! Here are the scans: Part 1: p1 p2 p3 p4 p5 Part 2: p1 p2 p3 p4 p5
  9. Sure thing! They were issues 30 - 34; each issue had two comics in, with the Bionicle ones being in the second half of each issue. The magazine was released monthly, so those issues were, respectively, September 2001 - January 2002. If it helps, they're listed on Bricklink on this page: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=B&catString=462 - though no-one's actually selling them there at present. I'll scan the pages from issues 30 and 31 shortly ^^ It's really a shame I didn't keep the other ones, because they seem to be hard to come by now; but kid me just wanted the pictures for something else and didn't think about preserving the comic for the future ^^;
  10. There is indeed; it was published in the Lego Adventures magazine in the UK back in 2001, which I used to have every issue of when I was a kid - and there was a Tahu comic in the subsequent (and final) two issues, too. Regrettably, I only have the magazines with the first two parts of the story in now; but if it would help, I can scan those for you. I'll also see if I can find the remaining three issues anywhere, too, for completeness sake. Ebay might help me there, I think.
  11. Avak's long been my personal favourite. Originally, I wasn't a fan of his look - the official image looked like he had very unflattering hamster cheeks - but as soon as I read the novels? Not to mention, found out that his set looked better than the promotional images had suggested? He immediately became my favourite, and has stuck ever since. Just... I dunno, exactly. The other Piraka are cool too, and all, but something about Avak's personality made him by far the most interesting to me... though I'd have to read the books again to be able to put my finger on why. Also, his power of creating perfect prisons out of thin air is pretty fascinating, too. Just saying.
  12. I didn't even know that was a thing. But... Takanuva literally pointed out, in canon, his surprise that Pohatu was orange upon arrival in Karda Nui. If he'd always been that colour, that line is now absolutely nonsensical That said... my personal biggest peeve has always been with the retcon that said the entire '01-'03 storyline took place over the period of a single year in canon. I just... no, I don't accept that. It makes those storylines, which I always imagined as covering a good amount of time, taking each a good year or so in their own right, crammed into far too short a time to be believable for me. Granted, the original comics and MNOG didn't give much of an idea of time passing, but to me... it always felt like a good long time - especially for the Bohrok war, and the rebuilding of the island in its aftermath. And it was changed for what storyline significance? Would it have affected anything else if the Toa had been three or four years on Mata Nui between their landing and the journey back to Metru Nui? As far as I can see, it wouldn't have affected anything; when the Matoran had already been on Mata Nui for 1000+ years, what difference would three more make in the overall scheme of things? I just... don't like that one. I haven't even heard of some of these more recent retcons though, honestly - I've been out of the fandom for too long, I guess xD;
  13. I had a few of them, namely Visorak Battle Ram, Battle of Metru Nui, and Race for the Mask of Life. Back in '05, I thought they were the coolest thing, but... my interest in them subsequently waned, I guess. I found the build of the '05 ones were too flimsy to make playing with them practical - I remember that, while building Battle, I pressed a bit too hard as I was putting some bricks in place and the whole thing fell apart because the brick-built pillars weren't as sturdy as they might have been - which was a big minus in my opinion. Really, my set of Battle only served as a big display piece for the remainder of its life, because I didn't want to knock it down again by being too rough with it. The so-called 'Great Visorak' was the only part of it that I fully appreciated. I personally enjoyed the Visorak Battle Ram, though. The design wasn't that inspired, but it was a fun little set... and I did like the Hordika minifigures, even though they were static. The fact that they were on traditional minifigure scale, and had pretty detailed moulding for how small they were... though it would have been nice to see some variety amongst them, rather than all four sets having the exact same figures. I never really studied the subsequent years' playsets in any great detail, I only got Race because it was reduced after that Christmas. It was fun, too - and I liked the Piraka and Inika minifigs a lot, since they were more versatile than the static Hordika - but it wasn't really... anything special? I feel like the aesthetic of the set relied too heavily on the reused Bionicle weapon pieces; if they were to be removed, for instance, the vehicles looked extremely dull, where I feel like they ought to have been able to be interesting even apart from those pieces. I guess mostly I agree with what others have said: the concept was cool, but the execution most often felt lacking. I didn't get any of the '07 ones, so I don't feel qualified to comment on them. Personally though... I feel like I would have been more interested in them had more of the sets had actual storyline significance. The Piraka Stronghold, the Tower of the Toa, and the Battle of Metru Nui did - albeit the latter not representing the actual movie scene - but the others either didn't show up in the year's storyline, or just felt shoehorned into the comics to sell the set. I don't even remember if the Toa Terrain Crawler showed up in canon story, or if it was just that one music video; the Lava Chamber Gate's single scene was forgettable to me; and I don't recall any of the other '06/'07 vehicles showing up anywhere. I think I'd have preferred more diorama-type playsets that represented specific scenes and locations that were significant to the story, rather than what we actually got.
  14. You know, you could solve that limitation by choosing the Olmak. That way you could easily cross the ocean in a matter of seconds. Unless I got completely lost in multiple alternate dimensions with it, like Takanuva did xD But yeah, you make a good point; I'll probably chose that one instead, then. Thanks ^^
  15. In terms of aesthetics alone, I've got to love the original Kanohi Kaukau most of all; but based on powers, hm... The Kualsi holds appeal, but it's line-of-sight limitation is the main put-off; my main interest in a teleportation Kanohi would be to make my long-distance relationship a lot easier, and there's no way that one would be able to get me all the way across the ocean. Ruling out that, then... I think a Kiril would be a pretty good one to have, actually. The ability to repair damage to inanimate objects when they get broken, how useful would that be? Think I'll run with that one as my choice.
  16. It is indeed canonically koh-peek, according to BS01. That's news to me, though; I thought the 'e' on the end was pronounced, rather than silent. I guess add that to my record of weird pronunciations, because literally until right this moment I've always said it as 'koh-peck-ee'.
  17. I like where this is going even more now. It's still the classic overall storyline, but you've got such a fresh, new take on it... and I love the way you've seriously thought through things that a lot of fans - myself included - just took for granted without really considering, like the meaning behind the virtues. This comic captures everything I ever wanted from Bionicle, and more besides; looking forward to each new page ^^ Also, just for the record, if this was a real physical graphic novel? I would buy it right away.
  18. I mean, Ehrye confused me, back in the day. At first thought it was eh-her-yee, before settling on pronouncing it like the English word eerie (was it pronounced that way in Nuju's promo CD? I seem to remember that). According to the Bionicle Encyclopedia, however, it's air-yay, so I was doubly wrong xD
  19. Not really being a fan of the launchers in general, I dunno that I have much to offer the discussion; I usually found that they made the sets look awkward, so I tended to take them off and have the characters rely solely on their unique weapons. Still, I grant that some of them were fun to play around with, so... I have to say I probably disliked the Nyrah ghost blasters more than any of the others. Functionally they worked, granted, but they just seemed so... bland, comparatively speaking? I didn't find anything aesthetically pleasing about them at all, they were just there. And, unlike some of the others, I didn't even get any satisfaction out of firing them. Something like a zamor launcher, midak skyblaster, or even cordak blaster, I could have some fun with shooting; but the ghost blaster just didn't do anything for me. Favourite, though, for me would probably end up being the thornax launcher. It was one of the best, functionally; and it was scaled to work with a canister-sized figure, so it lacked the 'laughably oversized for the character' aspect that some of the others suffered from.
  20. If it helps at all, might he have been mentioned in the 2003 Official Guide to Bionicle? I never owned it myself, so I can't say for certain, but I remember seeing it on sale back then; and given what I remember of it, it seems plausible that it might have contained something on him.
  21. Oh WOW, this is cool. I absolutely love the art style you're using here; and the story's coming together flawlessly so far. Between that, the layout, and the pacing, it has a real 'authentic graphic novel' feel to it, which honestly makes it a real treat to read. Very much looking forward to see where you're going with this I really enjoy the callback to what the Turaga said in Island of Doom, too; the way that the Toa's muscle tissue is regrowing as they reassemble themselves, rather than just snapping Bionicle pieces together like they did in the original animation. This way makes them feel more vulnerable, somehow, in those starting moments, which is a really nice touch. I've often considered 'rewriting' some of Bionicle's earlier years myself, but never moved past the considering stage; it's really cool to see someone else had the same idea, and is executing it much better than I ever could have ^^
  22. I just checked the Official Rare Collectibles topic to see if it held an answer for you; but little luck, I'm afraid. The numberless Disk is listed (as quoted below) in the ultra-rare category - and there's a picture comparing it to the standard Disk of Time, if that helps any - but the "$??" means, in the thread's own words, that the item "cannot reasonably have any value associated with them because they haven't been sold even once". Still, I hope that helps a little, at least?
  23. Oh, another one for me that I remember from back when I was fully into Bionicle? Karzahni, for sure. Don't get me wrong, he was pretty cool in concept, despite looking nothing like the description in Dark Destiny, and the box art concealed the worst of his flaws. But in execution... just, eh. To me, his limbs simply looked too flimsy in contrast to his wide torso. The fact that his legs were so far apart didn't do him any favours, but if they'd been bulked up a bit, I feel like it wouldn't have been a huge issue. As he stood, however... it looked bad to me. He seemed more like a mishmash of random parts than a unified set; plus, his fingers kept falling out, and Vezon's cape didn't sit right on his awkward torso. In addition, the trap simply didn't interest me, and Sarda seemed dull compared to the year's other Matoran. Idris and her blue Great Ruru was literally my favourite part of the whole set.
  24. I guess you're right; thinking about it, I remember a comic strip that (I think?) came with the McToran that kind of depicted at least some of the Matoran as more child-like, I seem to remember them talking about seeking approval from their respective Toa and such. I didn't discover that comic until many years later, though; so I'd always believed MNOG's small-but-emotionally-mature version was the highest level of canon. I just can't think of them as genuinely being children because of that.
  25. Not gonna lie, I'd love to get my hands on this set. Not to own it - even if I could afford it, where would I even keep this monstrosity, it's HUGE? - but just like... rent it so that I could say I've had the experience of building it and holding it in my hands xD Also, the fact that it includes figures and box-art from my favourite movie (Episode V) is a massive plus in my book, too ^^
