  1. Quite frankly I'm amazed this discussion has remained at least partially civil for as long as it has. I don't remember previous threads about this topic fairing quite so well. But yeah. We must again take our time to remind ourselves that we're talking about fanwork based on a discontinued line of children's construction toys. No need to be so serious everybody.
  2. I really don't care for the character designs for BW2 but other than that I'm fine. Female trainer looks best out of all of them so I might just be playing as her. :PI'm really surprised they're changing as much as they are. I thought for sure they'd just go with an updated retelling as before.
  3. Based on a discontinued children's construction toy even. Still, this is a debate that goes waaay beyond BZPower, though this is a place that uniquely favors sprite comics. Anywhere else and you'd only get a flicker of support.
  4. BAHAHAHA niice.I've never played an ES before Skyrim and I've loved every second I've played it. I never thought I could play a single-player game so long and so often as I've been with Skyrim.I'm also fascinated with the modding aspect and I'm definitely going to start doing that myself once I get the time.
  5. Along with the "It's pointless" crowd, I should also point to the Gargoyles and Firefly fandoms. They still do things, and their series have been gone for much longer than Bionicle. But neither have their series come back.
  6. Sprite comics getting more attention than hand-drawn is only a trend on BZPower, where sprite comics are pretty much a subculture. Very, very different in the internet at large. Getting any webcomic going and getting even a small iota of attention is a monumental task, let alone getting anyone to pay attention to a sprite comic.
  7. ... well I have to give mad props to BZP that a topic like this can exist peacefully. Nice!Anyway yeah, I think female characters with bad attitudes are common mainly for laziness, author tastes, or just fear of being sexist. The latter really gets you in trouble more often than not. Fear of being seen as sexist is itself a sort of sexism, being afraid to give a female character certain traits just because of that. Also if you lack characters of a certain gender, never add one just for the sake of adding one. Affirmative Action should not apply to storytelling unless you really have good roles for them to fill and good personalities for them to have. If you just make them one-note stereotypes that's going to look worse than not having any at all. Characters should exist to be characters, not to satisfy a demographic that your effort is not going to satisfy anyway.I can give an example here. Take Leila, a character I was going to introduce in SK Inn. She's not so much affirmative action as transferring a character from another story of mine into a different setting. Regardless, once transplanted I had no idea what I would really do with her. I just hoped I would figure something out. Del, on the other hand, was designed right alongside Burns and I had a very well-defined role for her from the get go.(If you could even tell she was female. I tried showing that any way I could without giving her the most obvious trait that Matoran shouldn't even have, but apparently some people still couldn't tell. )
  8. I'm really not here much anymore. Just been brought back recently for... I have no idea. But naaah, it's more because my life has moved me elsewhere than me just getting bored with the place.
  9. It's cool Peach. I'm with Gavla, there really wasn't anything wrong with your post at all and I apologize for the rather smarmy end to my last post. I can understand why you'd repeat that you're just stating your opinion, but you have to realize that typically makes the hate-response a lot worse, not better. (at least in my experience it has...)Gav I actually totally agree with you on that last point. I also prefer overall plots to just gag a day strips. That's why SK Inn would've pretty much flopped after the intro.
  10. Oh lord P6. I hope you know what you've started. I'll give a sincere answer though. For an author who cares in the slightest, you can't just "Finish an entire 1-page comic with sprites in les than 5 minutes". In order to get any sort of attention(ESPECIALLY outside bzpower), a good sprite comic has to actually compensate by actually having good writing. Of course lazy ones will fail, but the same goes for any webcomic regardless of the art. The internet at large is pretty vicious like that. No matter how talented you are in either respect, getting noticed is immensely difficult. Also, while pretty artwork can't really save a bad story, bad artwork can really mess it up and distract from the writing. That's why I used sprites. It's not so much out of laziness, but because my drawing abilities range from passable to garbage and it would really screw up the presentation. Sprites allow people like me to have an acceptable form of presentation that doesn't distract from the writing. At the same time though, I find sprites very limiting sometimes. That's why I'm greatful when I have somebody like Jetice to draw something for me. That was going to happen for an action scene but he really didn't have the time. And then BZPower went down. :VOverall from a reader's standpoint I like both just fine. It all depends on my ability to get engaged and care at all, which pretty art does not by itself do. From an author's standpoint I would most certainly prefer hand-drawn and would probably pay any of my friends who are competent at that to do arts for me rather than using sprites, but sprites work and save me from driving off any potential readers with my sorry excuse for artwork. Also Peach, I should point out that your repetition that it's just your opinion is not a shield from criticism of that opinion. If you're able to criticize people's methods, people can criticize what you say. Just saying. Though you don't sound like quite as much of a snob as Parazan, so congratulations for that at least.(darn a lot of people beat me. I go afk for a few minutes to clean the bathroom and this happens.)
  11. Chaos you're pretty much determined to be depressing aren't you? ... let's see if I can beat that.Unfulfilled dreams and ideas. Opportunities missed. Broken promises.... good memories overall.
  12. Releasing SK Inn last year. Yeah, it may not have lasted, but man it felt good at the time.Actually if I dug deep enough I could probably list... quite a bit. I may have had a very on-and-off tenure in Art III but I always enjoyed it.
  13. Man, the new Toa sure have it rough. So shortly after they become toa, queen gets assasinated. :PLooking forward to seeing where this goes, glad to finally get back here and see this. Kutgw
  14. The my little pony fandom extends far, faaaaaaar beyond this site. Near every site has lots of people who like it, BZPower is not unique this way. I'm completely baffled at how you think its existence and fandom are going to hinder Bionicle ever coming back, which itself isn't particularly likely already. Even if something could affect those odds negatively, it would more likely be a large hero factory fandom rather than MLP. :/

    Yeah...

Yeah... it's probably safe to say SK Inn probably won't be coming back. Sorry guys. I had a pretty good start but BZPower's downtime and my own life kind of took me away from it. School may or may not keep me too busy for it later. If not, we'll see. Regardless you all saw where the story was going anyway. Burns and Sukid were going to meet up and start the hotel together. Not that I'm totally gone from bzp of course, I'll be back every now and then, and if Dark wants to continue the movie after all this time I'm definitely on board.
  16. I NEED TO BE A PONY NOW TOO WE CAN BE WYLD STALLYNS

  17. Hey wait, I'm not gone. :P Also hi.

  18. Well here we are again. It's always such a pleasure. Remember when you crashed on me twice? But yeah, hey everybody. I'm still alive and all. I'm actually quite surprised, by now I had convinced myself that BZP was never coming back. Shows what I know, eh? Unfortunately I've gotten a grand total of one SK Inn comic done during the downtime. With BZP's downtime I lost the majority of my audience. Combine that with college and incessant TF2 and you have negative motivation right there. Once I get one more comic done, I'll put the thread back up. ... you know, at first I kind of thought BZP's downtime ruined everything, since SK Inn, once it got passed the introductory phase, was going to have a summer theme... but hey, next summer will be here before you know it. The introduction plot could very well take place late-fall-early-winter instead of February. That just gives me more time to develop it rather than crunch it down to meet the summer deadline. Just be aware, the next couple of weeks are going to be pretty busy for me. I'm sure it's absolutely nothing compared to the other college students on BZP, but for a spoiled guy like me who's used to having oodles of free time it's busy. Doing a research paper on cloning along with algebra. So the old two-comics-per-week plan I had just got even less feasible. But I'll get things done at some point, mark my word! Oh, one more thing. Over the downtime I came up with a new series idea. ... no, not the one I talked about before. A third one. I originally invisioned it as a silly little fan-sequel to the real Bionicle, but I'm thinking about making it ICC instead, seeing as SK Inn, while it takes place in both universes, was pretty obviously developed with Dark and I's continuity in mind and I don't want to cheap out too much. But we'll see... we'll see. But yeah, as soon as SK Inn moves passed this first story arc I might put more focus on that. It should be a blast no matter what continuity it takes place in. I think it'll be much more enjoyable for people only vaguely familiar with Bionicle and not all that familiar with BZPower at all.
  19. If anything my interest in Bionicle went back up somewhat during the downtime.
  20. ... I'm kind of wondering if the SK Inn intro fits there. It's a fairly serious story with jokes in between and of course community references and in-jokes. ... though hopefully it's simple enough (Two people past their prime meet up to create something new) that people who hadn't seen my previous work... or the comics forum as a whole for that matter, could get into it. I think the greater focus so far on Burns and Del kind of helps that, being completely new characters. Out of all the series listed, The Mercenus Chronicles was the only one I actually read, but yeah it was pretty popular. Though it DID have some pretty awesome art to go with it. ... its main problem was Rangan's habit of using rather big words where they weren't really appropriate. I do need to read the rest of those however.
  21. ... Oh god, the acronyms one. I giggled so hard. AND THE SOAP OPERA ONE! OH GOD THAT IS A MILLION TIMES FUNNIER HAVING SEEN THE ROOM ... I remember for some reason the first time I read that UM comic I thought that hitman just randomly shot that guy in the head rather than missing Larry. Even though it's pretty obvious

    Hnaffbaff

When I posted comic 5, I said I'd be going into "Maximum overdrive". As in making comics faster. I knew I should've gotten the turbo. I've hit some writer's block as far as Burns' video goes. I also want to actually show some of it because just seeing Sukid watching it and reacting while Burns talks would be pretty lame... and I'm just having a hard time figuring out how it goes. I just had burns talking about how it used to be and that he's in trouble.... at the start... that sounds like more of an ending. It's also kind of boring, and the video was supposed to be attention-grabbing. Like a commercial almost. THEN the plea for help. ... I'm just sort of thinking out loud right now. Kind of the point of this blog really. Don't fail me now, google image search. Posting this here instead of the comic topic along with an old comic because I think people are getting tired of that. The next old comic will be released along with comic 6. Also, some awesome art by Jetice might be in this one, though I haven't heard much on his progress lately. Admittedly I haven't taken the time to message him and ask but yeah. It has nothing to do with the video though.
  23. I missed the ICC Prank because I was too busy derping around in this Pokemon community. It kind of fell through though. :[ Haha, Dark and I's april fool's prank. I still remember that day fondly. Buttons had died a day or so before, and the whole prank(along with seeing The Room that night...) really cheered me up. Had we had more time, it may have been a full animation with all of the characters dancing to the song. But it was very much a last minute idea I sent to Dark right after he posted the announcement. ... so I just threw that together. And sadly, my SK Inn announcement at the time wasn't a joke. I actually had the first few panels of SK Inn 1 done by that time(though they were pretty different at the time). I was just hoping it would be written off as a joke if I got lazy again... and it was. Buttons' death combined with getting Zipper a few months later kind of took me away from it. x_x
