  1. Bear in mind that when they came out, we were all freaking out that they had 13 points of articulation. Huge leap forward. The weapon mounting was indeed awkward for some of them. I don't recall using the pins on Whenua though. Pretty sure I just had him hold the drills the standard way (e.g. Tahu Nuva's swords).
  2. Just got a notification that it's back in stock at TRU (still shows as available as of now). GL;HF
  3. Wait, this stuff actually works? War cancels the luxury but keeps the GPT? @Spirit, pretty sure lump sums of cash only work when you're friendly these days. Might be a BNW thing.
  4. Just becoming the supreme dictator. I've not been overly impressed with the AI. It's hard because it cheats, not because it's bright. I think its concept of MAD is basically a dumb comparison of total military scores. I dropped a nuke as a show of force when it started a war. AI responded with 5. Either it doesn't understand escalation or it totally called my bluff.
  5. My backordered Quake Beast just shipped, but it's now marked Sold Out. The retail window might've closed.
  6. Playing a game of Civ 5 as Bismarck, year is 2047 on Emperor. Outlasted some AI, fallen behind others by ~40%. Maintained a strong diplomatic and cultural presence, but ultimately got into a nuclear war with China--assumed cultural/diplomatic victories were now out of the question. Making a mad, hopeless dash for a space-race victory when World Leader came up for vote again at the UN. Voted for myself with majority control. I now rule the world. Victory.
  7. More or less. We know they had to accelerate things, so it's quick, but it's solid and you could tell they cared about not leaving things hanging.
  8. Quake Beast has been out of stock most of the summer, it seems. Possibly a production issue? Ordered one from Lego last week, backordered until the 18th. Presumably might see some more supply then.
  9. Ha, just made a blog post about this. Up until recently, I've advocated for canisters. Always loved how they integrated into the storyline (suva, sphere, etc.)--just one more layer of finesse and care. Now that I have like...60...I'm beginning to really appreciate the new boxes for G2. 2 key requirements for me to swap to boxes: 1) They collapse cleanly (see G2). Quick knife cut to the tape, all folds down. G1 box glue is a huge pain. Do not want. 2) The collapsed state is sturdy and consistent. I need minimal flaps hanging out and folds that collapse into a very compact state. Again, G2 boxes were great. Traditional rectangle/cube boxes are more unwieldy. Only bummer with boxes is that they still tend to take more damage at the store/in transit than canisters. Hate getting a crushed one in the mail.
  10. The "collection" aspect of it (as opposed to a "hobby"). That's part of what I'm trying to [rationally] assess now. I'm probably...75-ish% complete on G1, so it's in [what I think is] a gray area where it's a serious-enough collection that there's value in keeping the box/manual/bricks trifecta (as opposed to the usual missing-box on eBay). At the same time, calling it a collection requires a certain amount of care, respect and curation (i.e. not a hoard). I've done that on a certain scale (custom-framed posters, carefully staged models, etc.). This is the dark corner.
  11. Maybe that's the secret sauce for G3. 1. Tank the company. Reboot Bionicle. 2. ??? 3. Profit
  12. You know, I'm not really sure that I have any particular regrets this time around. I haven't finished JtO yet (I mean, cat's out of the bag), but I've kept pretty well on top of the sets/collectibles/books/etc. Feel like I've gotten a worthwhile amount of satisfaction from the time I've put in. Just wish they weren't done.
  13. Top shelf of the closet in my office. Surely I'm not the only one. Anyone have any decent solutions? Gen 2 boxes break down great, but I hesitate to break these down on account of the glue. They're pretty densely filled with smaller boxes anyway--so this is fairly efficient. I've thought about moving the canisters up to the attic. How well do they hold up outside of a climate-controlled environment?
  14. I tend to agree. Has a few bits that I'm not crazy about (chest wheel, awkward staff), but it's a really impressive build all things considered.
  15. I don't know that there's room for a "continuation" in the literal sense (for now, anyways). I do think there could be room for a new story arc within the G1 universe (or G2, if they felt like it). Mostly it's a matter of balancing the need to respect prior canon and using as little of it as possible to make the connection (given a newbie audience). The EZ-mode approach is to simply jump many years into the future and reference prior events as legend. More interesting to me is the concept of jumping into the past. Consider an origin story of the early days of Mata Nui (Tren Krom, etc.). You can still operate with a blank slate, but can gradually introduce concepts that we know in the broader lore (the origins of Kanohi, Rahi, etc.). Old fans get to have the "Aha!" moment whenever it bridges a gap, and new fans use those same bridges to realize that there's a whole lot more depth if they want to explore it.
  16. A quick skim of eBay will reveal quite a few overpriced sets and pieces (i.e. 95% of the listings). Amazon is more-or-less the same. One small perk of eBay is that, if there's something that's not wildly overpriced, you can sometimes get the seller to come down into a more acceptable range.
  17. Mostly been getting sprays in the new boxes, but I landed the Genji skin yesterday. Also PC. BallistaMan#1948
  18. Literally just dropped $100 on S@H last night. :/ Got my bus, probably missed the double VIP, meh. The points haven't updated yet on my account--fingers crossed?
  19. This is a point worth calling out again. There are plenty of thematic collectors (i.e. they mostly buy Space, etc.) who simply keep themselves busy with a huge backlog of sets until the next cycle. I suspect most of you have holes in your G1 displays--get cracking. To Sumiki's point, most theme-communities are far more decentralized and tend to just lump under "Lego fans" vs "Bionicle". There's a reason we keep getting serious fan-service for a discontinued line. Also, consider more specialized themes like Rock Raiders/Alpha Team from the same '99-01 timeframe. Both have had reboots (Power Miners/Ultra Agents). I'd bet money that we'll see the same archetypes again within the next 5-10 years, max. The existence of G2 at least lends credence (if, perhaps, not full validation) that the core thematic premise of Bionicle is sound and capable of being cycled.
  20. Nice, Bentonville, AR here. Haven't encountered that many people on BZP closer than Dallas.
  21. Really glad to hear you enjoyed it! If it helps, I was running around through at least 2009, maybe 2010. And college, though even that feels like a long time ago (graduated in '13).

    BRICKFAIR DAY 2

Anything good come out of the panel? -said the boring, serious commenter-
  23. Happy birthday B6! Thanks for all of your contributions to the site over the years. I shall continue to archive embarrassing PMs from 2006 for future blackmail.
  24. Gearing up to build my JtO Makuta! Gonna use the parts to assist with my ReBrick contest entry first, then will swap them over for the real deal. Still need to scrounge up a Tahu Uniter someplace (prices are like...$25 minimum :/ ). Also, the second Ikir is just there for fun (and potential contest parts), and Uxar will likely end up on my desk at work. The other Umarak the Destroyer and Quake Beast (backordered) are the final sets I "officially" need to wrap up G2. Gonna be epic!
