  1. I'm really having a hard time imagining pushing them in a direction other than a pretty literal reboot of the same. Making them humanoid/transformers seems too close to a knockoff, and CCBS pilots seems like it deviates a bit too much from what made them "them" (creature almost-merged with vehicle). I could picture something akin to Bohrok, however: Vehicles with a small, organic pilot "piece". Collectible pilots that offer various traits in combo with different vehicles, etc. Doesn't really jive with the CCBS trend, but I'm sure there are opportunities to use it for mounting armor, adding weapons/limbs, etc.
  2. That sounds like a pretty poor use of your Bionicles. :u You have no idea how many bulk pieces it takes to build one.
  3. Agreed. Even as someone who's still pretty hooked on G1, I've been really impressed with how they've been able to improve on Hero Factory (which never really got my attention). Solid gearboxes, consistently varied builds; definitely an evolution in the right direction.
  4. Was the Power Pack sold in stores, or was the Chrome Hau available loose as well?
  5. My wife and I are in the process of building a new house--we've got plans for several sets of dedicated shelves for display, plus a few feature walls for posters and such. The current plan is to hang onto them forever, though the canisters and boxes can be a challenge to store at times. During college they predominantly stayed at my parent's house, with careful instructions from me not to toss them.
  6. 3/5 - I see your avatar running around, but haven't really gotten to know you yet. Edit: Got sniped on this one, oops. Sorry Nescent, already ranked you.
  7. I don't actually recall the origins of mine all that well, though I know a couple people who might remember better than me. I was always a big fan of Iruini, and I'm pretty sure that name was taken at the time. I decided to step it up to the next logical variant, and now I'm really attached to it.
  8. Any Hearthstone players running around these parts? Ex-Legend player myself, would love to play a few rounds with fellow BZPers.
  9. 5/5 lately. Pretty sure I remember when you joined, lol.
  10. The Vahi's influence is somewhat limited in scope to the MU, correct? That's why he wouldn't be able to simply accelerate all of time forward, but instead had to influence his own? Or am I misunderstanding there? Assuming that's true, he'd essentially be "out of phase" while using the mask and would simply seem to have disappeared to the passing world?
  11. That is brilliant. Perfect way of explaining away the restrictions of it being a fan-made set. The Adaptive Mask of Water Breathing is a unique mask, so it doesn't really apply here. The topic starter is talking about masks forged in the shape of other masks, to hide their power. This isn't really the same concept, either, but the Toa Hagah wore Kanohi Masks forged in the shapes of the masks of past heroes, but had different powers*. *Sometimes. Norik wore a Pehkui in the shape of a Kiril; Iruini wore a regular Kualsi forged in honor of a past Kualsi-wearer. Krakua seems like a great example, actually. Hadn't considered him at all. Totally forgot about Norik's Pehkui too. Wasn't made for deceptive purposes, of course, but it could have that effect. Granted, when everybody lives for 100,000 years, I imagine that word generally gets around when a mask is an impostor.
  12. Given that a Kanohi's power is tied to the underlying protodermis rather than its shape, is there a documented instance of a mask that was intentionally crafted to mislead based on its appearance? Presumably the wearer can sense a mask's abilities immediately (see Kopaka acquiring his Hau), so they wouldn't be tricked for long, but is there any value in deceiving others? Has it ever been done?
  13. To wit: Picked up a full line of Phantoka + Mistika, Klakk, 4 '01 posters, and 2 SDCC Scorpio masks.
  14. Suppose I'm odd, but I really enjoyed 2005. It was one of the first years that really gave the MU a sense of scale and history, but it hadn't yet hit the density of the lore of later years.
  15. Agreed, they never felt fully robotic, even back then. I think a lot of it was just an implicit feeling based on how they interacted with the world around them. They had oddly close ties to the natural world for robots (use of stone in storytelling and art, living in the treetops, domesticated Rahi, etc.). Too many connections to life to be cold steel. That said, I can't think of any references prior to Hapka, either. I believe that's where we start getting references to pain (Kofo Jaga stings, etc.), exhaustion, etc. Humanization isn't exactly new to toylines based on robots. Transformers was doing this since the 80's, featuring characters that acted like humans despite being 100 percent robotic, and in some more recent continuities even featuring cybertronian xenophobia against orgainics or biomechanial beings in the storyline. There's nothing to say that the Matoran's human-like culture and personalities meant they were by definition at least partially organic. Of course. I was commenting less on the anthropomorphization (if that's a word) of the characters. Rather, it was how closely they integrated with the natural world. The Transformers' relationship to Cybertron strikes me as different from the Matoran's relationship to the island of Mata Nui, for lack of a better comparison. Between their lifestyle and the mysticism of the early story in general, they at least gave off the feeling of being less robotic, even if it wasn't stated explicitly.
  16. I'm good as-is. I've had less flattering ones in the past. We do need to make a guide with all of the rank titles though. Don't remember my current one off the top of my head.
  17. Always a big Kanohi fan. One of those things that makes Bionicle so iconic.
  18. I looked back at that reference. I'm not sure it's alien, but it is interesting that "biomechanical" means "artificial" to them (at least in this case). Seems ironic. I would try it on my wife, but there are sets and posters all over the place.
  19. Agreed, they never felt fully robotic, even back then. I think a lot of it was just an implicit feeling based on how they interacted with the world around them. 20. Quite partial to the fikou myself. Still keep one handy on my desk. I really liked a lot of the small Rahi combiners in general, actually (Pokawi, etc.). They usually felt more carefully crafted than the large combiners, despite their limited options for pieces.
  21. Yeah, that's Norik's neck. Ironically, you can already attach two ball joints to the ends of that part, although then you lose the axle holes at each end. The thing is, though, is that Lego would probably do that in their set instead of releasing a new part. Cheaper. I was moreso imagining that socket on the bottom of CCBS armor being fused where the round hole is on these plates. Makes a flat surface over a CCBS bone for attachments.
  22. I don't think that reasoning applies to LEGO, because their products are already designed with mind-numbing levels of compatibility. If anything such a "bridge" part would be seen as an incentive to buy a set, because it would allow for more building possibilities.I'm pinpointing that there are places where CCBS and standard Bionicle parts are not compatible. Let's say I got the Hero Pack from last March and had no new Bionicle sets to my name, but only old ones. I can't put the mask on any of the heads I have, so I would need to go get a new Bionicle set to use the new mask. Or let's say I have a CCBS shell in a certain color I want to use with a beam of a certain color and length. I have that in old Bionicle - but I can't use it. Instead I have to go buy a CCBS limb part or even a whole set. (Cue the invention of Bricklink. But SOMEBODY had to buy those parts from Lego, so you're not really beating the system.) So part compatibility with G1 alone would not be enough to merit a bridge part, since it only expands building opportunities (in that case) for those with G1 parts, which most of Lego's target audience does not have. What do you think of a bridge part that combines the standard armor mounting socket with something like a 3x1 liftarm? I can think of a quite a few ways to mount things to a setup like that.
  23. I think this would be ideal. Recapture a little more of the old "mechanical" feel and add an extra hole or two for more flexibility (less restricted to character-oriented MOCs, etc.), but retain the robustness of CCBS. Realistically, I imagine that Lego's thought of this and is either carefully extending CCBS that direction, or has some good reason for not doing it.
  24. Lego asked Amazon and BZPower to remove the info. Respective parties did. This is the proper way to deal with things. As someone who's handled product campaigns on Amazon for global brands before, it can be difficult to never make a mistake. It's not inevitable, but when, as you've seen, products are pre-planned months (or even a year) in advance, the probability of human error is a real thing. And yeah, Makaru's right, the solution is pretty much to fix it ASAP. I'm actually very impressed by BZP's relationship with Lego. Most brands can't imagine a world where fans actively respect their secrecy.
  25. Currently overspending on old sets. ^_^

      Have you tried Bricklink?
