  1. I have terrible luck with headphones. I have some simple over-the-ear ones that I like, but they tend to break quite easily, usually in various different ways too. So I just trained myself to enjoy using the cheap ones so I can replace them often enough without too much financial strain. (Plus, I've gotten expensive ones before and those break too. Not to mention the big noise canceling ones seem to create a suction that will turn into an ear ache or something.)

Um, in short, learn to like the cheap stuff? Doesn't sound like the best moral when I say it that way.

  2. I get where you're coming from, and this method probably isn't officially approved and puts minor stress on the mask. But I think you might be overblowing it with the whole "significantly more" stressed. (Unless you're like "Anything above zero is significant" then I can exactly blame you mathmatically.) All the same, I can hardly detect it myself, and perhaps the ridged round brick would be even better, because the ridges would give some more space for the pins to sit in and be less stressed? (Besides, while your mentioned alternatives do work, I personally wouldn't describe that as "sturdy." I like my connections to not be fragile, and turns out you need some friction on the pieces to pull that off. Agree to disagree I guess.)

  3. Is it fair to compare the current Bionicle series to the book sales of G1.  Yeah, sales were pretty bad there... they went from 5 books a year to three to two... and then I think the book for the last year got canceled entirely and Greg just posted it online, and even then it was a basic retelling of the comics and Mata Nui Saga.  :shrugs:  But while I haven't been following them, I do know they have a good amount of books for Ninjago and Friends, so I assume those book sells must be doing well.

  4. I totally get prioritizing school over conventions. One reason I kept going back to BrickCon was because my school was in the area... and then when I switched, at least I had Fridays off so I could go and not miss classes. As fun as the conventions are, it shouldn't be at the cost of education, because college is totally most expensive than any convention so prioritize. :P  (Of course, now that I have a weekend shift I have the opposite problem of enough money to spare but no free time to attend these conventions.)

Have fun in Portland. It's supposed to warm up this week but not nearly as bad as it was last month.

  5. Spies could be better served by acting as detectives instead of getting a suspect list.

    This.

The voting did seem kind of odd. We all know we're all out to get each other, so why would we lynch one person? Maybe next time there has to be a daily sacrifise to the game master, and if the victim is guilty, only he dies; if he's inocent, then he and another random person dies? Incentive to actually vote for the killers?

I thought it was a fun game anyway. Very quick tho.

  6. This was great and we should do it again next year. Maybe...bigger? I don't know if the easels could take that, but I don't see any other reason why not. I'm also curious - is it my fault that this went on the convention circuit? I know I said something about wanting it to go on the circuit, and then said I was building a section anyway...and the next thing I knew it was out at BrickUniverse (which I ended up missing). I offered to take the blame for the lack of an appropriate easel at BrickFair New England, anyway (it fell over a few times).

I heard some public feedback about the design at BrickFair (VA) -  this kid was explaining to his mom, "that's one of the Bionicle characters, but it's name isn't BZPower". If we end up featuring one character like this again next year, we probably should try to squeeze the name in there...

I guess technically you were the one who got the ball rolling. I asked the other folks who contributed at BricksCascade if they'd mind it going to the east coast conventions, and everybody else was for it, so I sent it to Andrew along with the rest of the BricksCascade MOCs. Plus, y'know, the more conventions this makes it to, the better. :D

For the size, this tied as the largest mosaic we've ever done at 12 baseplates. Most folks I know can only contribute a single baseplate, and I ended up providing 5 for this particular one. So while bigger would be better, I don't think our members can pick up that slack. (Unless you're offering to do it all yourself. :P ) Plus, as I guess you guys realized, even at this size its heavy enough to make standing difficult. I have two stands, and my larger one could probably support a 4x4... but most of my designs so far have been 3x3. (Baseplates = 32x32 studs).

The BZPower name was mostly to give credit to the members of the site who made it. It does take up significant space, but in this case I was filling in some empty space so it kind of worked out. I suppose we could work in the Toa's name maybe, or it might just be better to leave the names off entirely to avoid confusion. Or on a case-by-case basis... nobody really brought that up when I asked for comments about the design earlier. :P

I would like to do this again and I probably will. I helped CF and Nukaya for two BrickFair mosaics, then I've organized three other Bionicle mosaics at BrickCon, but this really is the first year I've organized one that went to multiple conventions. I probably won't design next year's until Jan / Feb or so, once we've seen some decent artwork to base our designs off. I was tempted to make a smaller Pohatu Master of Stone mosaic for BrickUniverse Dallas, but I wasn't going to make that a collaborative design, unless you want to join in on it. The plan for the Gali mosaic is that it'll go to BrickCon in October, where I can then hand off half the pieces to the members in attendance there, and then ship out the others. (Or take them with me to Dallas, as both you and Andrew will be there.)

  7. Eh, I don't think any of my classic Matoran characters would work, but I did make an RPG character once, but I don't think there's a topic for it anymore since it was back in the forum archive...

Xyron: Toa-like but not a Toa, more of a bounty hunter, I guess. Strong elemental air powers, but weak elemental earth powers too. Wears a Calix, mask of luck \ fate. Green and black in color. Wields duel swords, but also a boomerang for ranged attacks. Does best to work with others when on a team, but always secretly pushing his own agenda. Fairly competent in a fight, not the strongest but uses his environment to his advantage.
