I used Fireworks for that, and it can be done in Photoshop with "Save for Web and Devices."

No, actually, I'm not really that good at it. But for saving it as a Png, I save as "PNG 8" which sort of makes a Gif-ish thing with semi-transparency. And since the images like your Tahu banner have a narrow color scheme, it doesn't show the distortion as much.
