IC: (Rekhyt/Obsidian)

The Fa-Toa stepped into the healer's room.

"No. Scholar is not fully healed...she must have passed out after using up all of her power. She already healed me - well, most of me - and quite a few others today. We need some way to re-energize her: if we leave her, Schol will...probably die."

IC: The Champion (Obsidian Outpost)

For some reason, Zero is outside, near the arena talking with some Toa. "There she is. Wait here while I go find Varan," I say to Transient and head towards the doorway that leads inside. Thankfully, I see the Toa only a short moment later. "Follow, Varan. And don't stray off somewhere again, please," I tell him with a somewhat harsh tone. Then I lead him back to the boss. She's busy talking with the stranger, but I'm sure she won't take too long.

IC: "She's still breathing and she has a pulse, so that's always a good sign," Verulas muttered, glancing back at the rest of the group. "From what I can tell, all signs are pointing towards Rekhyt's theory of events, but we should probably face the facts; it's likely that she's going to be out of commission for a while."

The Bo-Toa wedged his arms under her knees and back, lifting her into the air before placing her onto her bed.

"Attempting to re-energise her would also put more of a strain on her already overworked body, and I'd highly advise against such a course of action. The better plan would be to have someone monitor the conditions of both her and Scholar while those of us who are uninjured begin searching for someone with similar medical experience. I suggest that we split up; half of us could take the cable car into Ta-Wahi to see if we can run into one of the doctors we escorted out, and the other half could scout out Ihu-Koro to see if it met the same fate as Ko-Koro. Unless someone here already has experience with a Mask of Healing, that would probably be our best bet.

IC:

"Do I get to pick my own nickname, or will one be assigned?the newcomer inquired.

Zero shifted from one foot to the other, clearly on edge. If someone was paying close enough attention, they would notice her eyes flicking to the side as Champion approached with another visitor.

"You will be assigned a suitable alias once I see how you perform in the arena." she responded automatically, her attention clearly elsewhere.

"I see." the Fe-Toa stated briefly, frowning slightly at Zero's apparent distraction.

Champion drew near, with a man she had not seen in a very long time in close tow. He was tall, with black and purple armor adorning his form. Old memories began to stir, but she pushed them aside. Only spite remained for this particular Toa of Gravity.

Varan.

IC: Varan and Transient

If the situation hadn't been different, Varan would've held contempt in his bright orange eyes for his old friend. She had betrayed true justice for a deranged form of "balance" - she believed that good and evil should reign equally. This was unacceptable; at Creation, only good was intended for the world - thus, only good should exist. There was no such thing as "balance".

But, as mentioned, the situation was different. There was another old friend here, almost unrecognizable given his changed form. He was slimmer then the Toa of Gravity remembered, his claws were long and malicious-looking - and his emerald eyes held a glare of ravenous hunger.

This was Nialus.

Transient recognized his old partner, too. The Toa was looking better then he remembered, his purple and silver armor fastened tightly across his muscular frame. He no longer wore his Volitak of old, but rather a battle-worn Mask of Sensory Aptitude. His fiery gaze caused rage in Transient, who remembered the last time they had met.

They had agreed to never cross paths again... not on friendly terms.

The Toa of Earth believed in keeping oaths.

With a thrust of his right hand, Transient called upon his Matatu and sent Varan flying upwards. The Toa of Gravity was fast, though - centuries of discipline and battle had toned his reflexes far past the norm. Varan used his own powers of gravity to lower himself.

Thrusting out his own hand, Varan caused Transient to slowly slink through the ground. While the Onu-Toa struggled desperately to get free, Varan pulled his tri-blade and leaped on top of him.

IC: Enforcer.

I stride purposefully across the courtyard, determined to find Charek. I look forward to our upcoming fight, but am interested in getting to know a little more about my opponent before things begin in earnest. He's a Su-Toa, so my plasma weapon is useless. His kakama means he can outrun and outmaneuver me. He has a definite advantage.

But I've faced worse odds before.

IC: Veteran.

As he rounded a corner, he almost ran into Judge. "You okay, mate?" he asked carefully, moving around so that he wasn't in Judge's new blind spot. "I heard what happened to your eye. How are ya copin'?"

Judge stared at Veteran blankly while thinking of a word that could at least keep some honor attached to him. "Irritating," he said. It wasn't so much that he lost an eye that was irritating, but that he'd failed to do an easy task. "How are things with the recruits," he asked stiffly. He wanted to change the subject.

"The recruits are goin' well," Veteran replied, "we've had a few more newcomers show up already." He knew Judge was trying to change the subject. "You know I've gone through pretty much the same thing you 'ave. If you need to talk to someone about it, I'm here."

IC: Tracer

Tracer silently observed the proceedings; so this was a mercenary with prior experience? Promising...

Just then, Champion approached, two other beings in tow...

Who promptly started beating the out of each other.

And that was terrible.

Quickly drawing her bow, she fired an arrow at the more unfamiliar figure (Varan). "Both of you!" she half roared, half rasped. "Heel!"

"Thanks," he replied, "but there is nothing to talk about." He was appreciative of the offer, but he didn't want to come off as needy. He already messed up his first mission, the last thing he wanted was to seek help every chance he got. He heard shouts coming from a ways over. "What do you think that is?"

IC:

The light powdery snow was kicked up into a flurry of white as the two former brothers went at it. It happened faster than than anyone could react. Well, almost everyone.

Zero was already moving. She knew Nialus and Varan had had their clashes in the past, but there was obviously something more serious going on between them that she was in the dark about. The Su-Skakdi reacted with her first instinct, and let loose.

She ran low to the ground, body arched forward as cold wind rushed past her audio receptors. Varan had drastically increased the pull of gravity on Transient's body, causing him to sink into the frozen earth. If his legs hadn't been broken under the strain already they would be in a matter of seconds.

Zero let out a primal growl and unleashed a burst of plasma upon the Ba-Toa. She didn't break speed as the superheated gas hit the icy ground and created a brief cloud of steam around her target. She moved faster than it could dissipate, three knives already wedged securely between her fingers. With a flick of her wrist they were all spinning towards Varan's silhouetted torso.

She drew her katana as her feet covered the last few yards between her and her foe. She wasn't planning on killing him, but she sure as karz wasn't afraid to make him bleed.

IC: "Right..." Verulas said, recalling the last time he had seen her.

He exited the room before walking over to go inform the others of his plan.

"I'm going to go tell Boss-Lady what's been going on up here," he explained, noticing that the one-eyed Skakdi had wandered off as he lowered his voice a bit. "Take care of Ayar and Scholar, and make sure the others don't cause any trouble."

"Especially you two," he continued, looking at Zealot and the De-Lesterin. "If I come back to learn that Rekhyt and Shivy over here got iced because the two of you were too busy making out in a closet somewhere, I will not be happy."

The Bo-Toa eventually found himself within sight of her after much walking, but before he could utter a word, she was already charging towards the two Toa going at it nearby.

"At least she knows how to pick her parties."

He took a glance at Tracer, reminding himself not to expend too much energy before his trial as he watched the three go at it.

IC: Enforcer.

I break away from my search for Charek and rush to help Zero and Transient. They can handle themselves, but I refuse to stand idly by. It's not in my nature. I leave my halberd across my back and draw my plasma weapon, already taking aim at Varan's exposed back.

I fire, once, twice, then lower my arm to admire the results.

The Fa-Toa nodded to Verulas, before sitting to keep watch on the two.

He heard shouts coming from outside, but was too tired...maybe he should have a look though...

Suddenly, Rekhyt was worried. That did not sound like a trial...then again, he was in no position to fight.

"Stay here." He said to Vene- Zealot and Faora as he made his way outside.

IC: The Champion (Obsidian Outpost)

Oh for ****'s sake.

I react immdediately, although it took me a while to understand what had just happened. I readied my mace, that had been strapped on my belt, grabbing it with my right hand. That archer, who I think I've seen before, unleashed an arrow at Varan, while Zero acted and created a cloud of steam around the Ba-Toa, immediately afterwards throwing daggers and pulling out a sword. This is ridiculous. I decide not to interfere physically, but I still draw out my elemental energy disruptor, aim it at Varan and push the button, because gravity is a very nasty element. Somehow, I need to neutralize Transient as well, before he recovers and tries to kill the Ba-Toa. I move towards him.

Varan. My weariness lessens as adrenaline floods my veins, Zero might not have much but spite for him. My reaction is much closer to Nialus. Immediately readying myself for combat.

Well, I would be doing so were I in any condition to fight. But as I begin the construction of several sword-arrows, I falter and stagger sideways, holding onto the person next to me for support.

Champion, Zero and Tracer are all moving on Varan, he'll be dealt with. I need to watch myself until I can get healing and rest.

IC: Varan

Varan was an honorable being - he believed in fighting only those who could fight back and fight fairly. Normally, four-to-five-on-one wasn't fair... but he wasn't normal.

He had the Mask of Sensory Aptitude.

The Kanohi didn't activate a sixth sense - but it did increase all five of his others. He could hear, see, smell, feel, and taste everything. Quickly and quietly, he nimbly dodged all of the attacks. An arrow whizzed past his face... plasma blasts scorched across his chest. As he jumped, a fury of knives - obviously from Zero - glazed his Kanohi, leaving a series of scratches. However, despite his skill - and luck - an attack made it past his defenses.

All of a sudden, he lost something. A part of himself. All of a sudden, his element was taken away.

Weakly, he collapsed to the ground. He felt the strain that had placed on Nialus fade away, until only an enormous fatigue remained.

Submissively, the older Toa raised his hands in surrender and sank to his knees on the frozen ground. "Halt your attacks - I was merely acting in defense!"

IC: Veteran.

Veteran stumbled outside just in time to catch Forger. Ayar still hadn't taken care of his wounds. Veteran laid him carefully down in the snow, then looked to see what the commotion was all about.

Why the karz was Varan fighting Transient and Zero. Veteran swallowed nervously. He'd been tbe one who'd let Varan into the base; this was his fault.

"Halt your attacks - I was merely acting in defense!"

Zero had seen Transient attack Varan first, and knew that the Toa of Gravity hadn't started the fight. Never the less, she hated him with a fiery passion. His words weren't enough to stop her completely.

She sheathed Akumu as her gait slowed to steady stroll. Thanks to Champion, Varan could no longer use his elemental powers. He was on his knees, hands raised in obvious surrender.

The Su-Skakdi grabbed him forcefully by the throat, crimson eyes ablaze with anger.

"What do you want?"she demanded. Her words were eerily smooth, despite her temper. "You know you have no place here, yet you still dare to show your face."

She kept him there, her grip loosening just enough to let him speak.

I have no idea who this new arrival is, but if Zero hates him, so do I. I trust her and Transient. If they both perceive this newcomer to be a threat, or even an enemy, then I won't hesitate to throw him into the Break myself. I owe my life to these people.

"Who is this?" I ask, pointing my gun towards the unfortunate Toa dangling from Zero's hand. And then it hits me: "Varan!"

IC: Judge

"Who is this," he asked himself under his breath. He looked at the new comer and saw his familiar colors. He wasn't the only Ba-Toa here. The thought then occurred, is he being replaced? He did fail and Zero has a reputation to her standards of mercy, but it didn't seem like this was the case. Or was it? Judge watched the struggle, but felt disconnected. What is he doing here?

IC: Verulas sat back and watched Zero's display of anger, momentarily rethinking his decision to tell her about Ayar and Scholar's conditions as he didn't want to take the Ba-Toa's place, but he absolutely had to say something when he caught sight of Rekhyt and Shivy.

"Why the Karz are you two down here? I thought that you were supposed to be watching over the medic and the kid. Please at least tell me that Zealot and the Lesterin didn't go off to find a closet somewhere..." he complained as he slapped his own forehead.

The fight ended just as quickly as it had began. I stand nearby and observe others, my mace still in hand just in case. Transient seems exhausted and Varan is now powerless. Zero grabs the Ba-Toa, and  seems to question him. I let the two acquiantances enjoy their reunion and look elsewhere. Plenty of people had gathered around to see what was going on. Not sure what Forger is doing here, for he seems very tired. That recruit seems to have given him a proper beating. And there's that guy who lost an eye in Ko-Koro. I can't remember his name, but it's good to see that he's fine. The Vortixx, I think his name is Enforcer, pulls out a weapon and threatens Varan with it. I decide to keep my eye on him.

IC Forger

I gave Veteran my thanks, managing to prop myself up to a sitting position in the snow, I should've known better than to act so quickly. But the sight of Varan had purged the more reasonable thoughts from my mind.

"I came out to see what all the bloody shouting was about...what is it about?"

"That Ba-Toa," I point first to Varan "has wronged us greatly in the past, seems that Transient," my pointing moves to the Onu-Toa, looking a little shaken "is angry enough with him to attack him on sight."

Rek was still feeling guilty as he looked at Forger.

He can't fight an enemy thanks to your shenanigans in the arena.

Yes, but we're on the same team now.

Except that neither of you can fight cos you went over the top back there.

Just shut it, will you?

You realise that you're having a conversation with yourself. That's weird.

Look who's talking!

EXACTLY!

The fight seemed to have died down a bit, so Rekhyt propped himself up against a wall. Although Forger was worse, he was in no position to fight.

IC: Varan

Despite the accusations and the raging glares - not to mention the sharp claws of Zero currently digging into his exposed neck - Varan wasn't angry. Despite having lost his power, he was already regaining his strength, and with it came a strange feeling. It began deep down in his gut, worked it's way into his lungs, then released itself in Zero's anger-ridden face.

Varan laughed.

The laugh was deep and hearty, and he could only imagine how much it angered the others. But it was all so amusing, thinking they could hurt him. He may have left their worthless cause, he may have abandoned them to their own fate. But one thing was for sure - they had known him too well to kill him now.

The Toa of Gravity had little memory of his actions before becoming a servant of the darkness. He could place names, faces, organizations that he had once been involved with; but everything else was a blur in his processor. And while he could not remember all the missions he had accomplished, nor the countless hours spent in stealth and combat, he knew one thing: he had known them all for a long while, and vice versa. This would help him.

Varan choked through Zero's gasp, "Oh, come, come now, my dear - surely you haven't forgotten?" The Toa sneered.

Varan laughed, oddly enough. He seemed different, as if the wears of life had gotten to his head. The Toa had changed, almost as if he were a new person entirely. His green eyes were not the same eyes that Zero had once loved. They now stared back at her with dull unfamiliarity.

"Oh, come, come now, my dear - surely you haven't forgotten?" he sneered, choking slightly as her thumb and forefinger tightened around his throat.

Zero held no remorse for her former companion. The more he talked, the more she wanted to gut him and watch his blood spill out onto the snow. He was audacious as ever, unwilling to acknowledge the danger of the situation he was in. He'd be better off if he were a Ga-Matoran treading water amongst a swarm of Takea sharks.

Although the Su-Skakdi was thoroughly enraged, she almost pitied his nerve. Her claws were sharp enough to end his life if she squeezed hard enough.

"I wish I could forget." she replied, her voice cold and menacing. She leaned in closer. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you right here and now."

Her lengthy spine quivered back and forth, like a Muaka's tail does before it pounces.
