KopakaFan116
So, everybody knows Makuta Teridax (posing as Turaga Dume) tricked the Matoran into going into those pods on Metru Nui, theToa had to save them, and so on. But I have a question: In theory, how did the Matoran change From darker, Metru Nui colors to the lighter ones on Mata Nui?First, when they go into the pods, they are Metru Nui colors. But, in Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui when the Roa give uptheir powers to save the Matoran and turn into Turaga, and They open up the pods, the Matoran are different colors! Can anyone explain that for me? Thanks! -KopakaFan116
Toa Smoke Monster
Storywise, I'd say it would probably be a side effect from being in the pod, just like the shrinking of the Matoran's bodies. That would be my best guess. Quote Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story.
TERIDAX941
Toy wise, it's just because that's the way they made the sets lol (the matoran always share the colors of their respective toa) Story wise, it's possible that the Matoran pods had various effects on the matoran. Either that or lack of sunlight lightened their colors (like skin growing more pale from lack of sunlight) 1 Quote Formerly Iron_Man5
Oroki
When you stay out of the sun for a while, you lose that sexy dark tan. That's what happened to the matoran. An alternate explaination could be that their Mata Nui forms didn't provide as much pigment to their armour as their Metru Nui forms used to. Takatu
I'm not 100% positive, but I think the official explanation (or at least the one most people went along with) was that being in more direct sunlight on Mata Nui sorta bleached their armor.

Vahkiti Master of Time
If I recall, the whole reason for the transformation into Tohunga form was because the pods damaged them and sapped their energy. The energy level of a Matoran could be determined by the saturation of their colours, but then some regions had lighter colours than others so.. it's hard to say I guess. Hitoshura
Different Matoran had different (shades of)colors? Probably not but that's just a guess. Quote profiles
Pomegranate
Could be that Metru Nui matoran just looked darker because of the Metru Nui Dome's poor lighting and tall buildings, and being out in the bright Mata Nui sun made them look much more vibrant Quote . 25K Now!
It's really just set inconsistency. I blame the weird juju that Terrymak did with his pods. Or the sunlight. One of the other. The pods did suck their energy, and energy and colour in BIONICLE does have some relation. I do like the explanation that they were bleached, though. 1 Quote http://vimeo.com/198967785 BZPRPG Profiles
NorikSigma
The bleaching explanation sounds the best, and most realistic. Makuta juju is pretty hand-wavy. 2 Quote BZPRPG ARC 3 / Breaking Point Profiles
Element Lord of Milk
In the movies the Metru Nui Matoran were identical to the Mata Nui Matoran apart from the Toa Metru/Turaga. Otherwise I believe it was explained that the appearance and colour change was due to degeneration from being in the pods.
Katuko
Sunlight bleaching dark red would not suddenly turn it into a bright, saturated red. Their color change is just artistic license. I've also always felt that with the exception of maybe red and white, the Metru colors looked horribly dull up until they started mixing them with other secondary colors than gray and silver.
