IC(Kiserre/General): Several years of R&D, combined with the Stan knowledge on the creation of advanced composites finally yielded success: a signifigantly improved form of armour for combat vehicles. The armour was modular several spaced layers of polymer and ceramic composite tiles. An upgraded version of the FTB-1 Hyou using this new armour had been developed: the FTB-2 Hyou-ni. In addition, a whole new main battle tank design had been drawn up: the VCB-2 Tora. Plans were made by the Ministry of the Military to begin production on this new tank as soon as factories were finished producing the new naval equipment.Other preliminary designs were shown as well, such as a light reconnaisance vehicle/personnel carrier and an upgrade to the HT-1 Suzume helicopter.

IC: The Sabre was tasked to monitoring shipping in and out of Astaria, with particular interest in non-NEA vessels. Meanwhile, the Black Night was assigned to a post at grid square N-17, ready to respond if Astaria got uppity. The Aquileon satellite did a routine check on other nations' situations, before returning to monitoring Astaria for troop movements.OOC: Got an X-Files unit?:w:

OOC:>Never watched the X-Files>Feel left out all of a suddenIt's basically like The History Channel these days plus CSI, right? What are the Sabre and the Black Night?Building projects on Astaria's coast and that of Astarias states in Europa are clear to any competent intelligence agency.IC:Astarian exports were doing quite well. The release of chocolate, cola, and coffee on the open market had done wonders for business, and despite being internally Socialist, it was recognized that Capitalism was the only way for the international market. Between Astarian and Antilian coffee there was healthy competition; releasing the Cocoa plant to Varangia had been a move designed to create a similar duality over chocolate. The news stories, if there were any, of strange dream-wizardry and pyromancers, would generally go with a good deal of interest in Astaria; many stories referred to the Age of Magic, the time before the Hyborean age, and the idea that that age would return was a common theme in science-fantasy.

OOC: They're my navy. -.-@ Rover: I still remember Starscape.IC: As companies in the NEA sought to find a competitor for Astarian coffee, they struck upon Aquileonese black tea--just as much caffeine, but cheaper to grow because incredible amounts of money were not spent on security or other things, and it was already plentiful. One of the ships sending cocoa plants to Varangia suffered an "accident" at sea and sunk, though no one noticed divers picking up the most valuable (and thus airtight) cargo from the wreck. It was carried along underwater for some distance from the wreck and then set onto a trading vessel, which shipped it to Aquileon under secrecy. :w:

OOCSuperpowers... a crude way of putting it. More like, say, very advanced peoples skills.Oh ****. They're superpowers, yeah. However, Agent Benson's guess is merely that; a guess. And with an occurrence rate of less than one per million every decade, it's so obscenely rare it's not funny. Not to mention exceedingly unpredictable.AKA, just enough we get X-Files shinigains, but simply too rare and too unpredictable for military or civilian usage. I guess you could try to pull a Project Stargate, but you're going end up with a lot of money wasted and an odd amount of illegal narcotics mysteriously vanishing. So, rare, unpredictable, unstable, and usually ends badly. Weaponize at your own risk. Also, there's that big conspiracy no one really likes to talk about. Remember the Stan and Aquileon spy heads meeting on a glacier near the beginning of the RPG? Anyone tries weaponizing the weird and unknown and suddenly their car suffers an unfortunate accident.

OOC: Astaria has very few freighters, because until the last few years they've never had to do intercontinental shipping, and this is a high-priority, very secure package that we really want to make sure reaches Varangia intact. The plane's a typical cargo plane with minimal(well, no) defensive capabilities and, rather than a black-box style thing, the entire flight is transmitted to Astaria and recorded there.Once again, unreasonably paranoid coffee company.

OOC: You're certain they're not smuggling NBC stuff with that? O_oI'd also like to know your excuse for having people so paranoid.Alright, let's try this again.IC: After acquiring security details from an airfield worker whose tongue got too loose at a time we shall not discuss for fear of moderator involvement, a direct action team was inserted into the airfield. Its mission (successful, as they were professionals and not a cheap merc team hired by companies, and had a full knowledge of security) sabotaged the plane, causing it to go down over the ocean, where its cargo was "lost," picked up by divers, and taken to a boat, which headed back to Aquileon.:w:

OOCErm, did the Waalrusians inform Standast of their plans? As the Stans, if they see a rocket go up and stick a satellite over them without any notice, things will get very, very, interesting quick.

OOCThe Stans will have a similar response if the Waalrusaans bother to tell them about this. Foreign religious members or no, a satellite sitting over you in geosync makes anyone twitchy, the Stans moreso. If the Waalrusaans wish for fast communications between members of the Church, use the radio towers we all have undoubtedly set up to beam stuff around. I know I have zeppelins who are serving as comm stations, beaming stuff between Aquileon and Standast. That, or wait for Stan comm sats.

OOC: How'd your merc team get into Astaria? Posing as tourists?IC:The Astarians would happily allow a Waalrusaan satellite over their territory, so long as it was at least partially integrated with the Astarian satellites. They even suggested a particular geostationary orbit which would be free of collisions.

OOC: The idea here was that giving it to Varangia would break the monopoly. Just keep in mind, if you start selling products from a plant that was native to Astaria, we'll figure it out.

OOC: If the Varangians figure out that the plane was sabotaged - and an inspection of the wreckage, if one is done, would probably uncover that - they'd be angry, though there's no way to tie the crash to Aquileon, and as the Astarians, not the Varangians, would be doing the inspection, the net effect would be that they'd be confused.

IC: If you're doing trading via PM it's clear you didn't want anyone else to know about it. I therefore doubt that breaking the monopoly was the intention--more likely, you wanted to coordinate your selling to make it look like the monopoly was broken while it wasn't.Knowing Xomeron, he'd metagame and accuse me of sabotage anyway. He meta'd the Saturn V shenanigans. His argument was really weak there: "You tried to steal the rocket plans--therefore you blew it up!" You're also assuming that the wreckage is retrievable and all in one place, which, given currents and ocean depth, is sorta up in the air, and I doubt you'll be able to retrieve all the parts.:w:

OOC: The point about the disposition of the wreckage is very good, actually. As for the selling of the stuff, the original inquiry about buying cocoa from Astaria was made in-topic. I don't really know why the actual sale was originally made via PM.I'm not really fussed about the whole thing, to be honest. A shipment was lost in-transit, nothing more to do.

OOC: It wasn't the chocolate that I didn't want everyone to know about, it was the rest of the exchange. I'm not metagaming; I can't really think of any way to draw the implication on Aquilonia. Most of what we have are the radar and radio recordings that were transmitted, but since you have quite the competent espionage force, that won't point the finger towards you. I'm following through on realistic consequences; a plane carrying an important shipment goes down, Astaria tries to figure out what happened and sends another one, hoping things work out this time.

OOC: The hard-and-fast rule is that you must write a post (and actually post it) describing your spies' entry to other nations and how they execute their activities there. Otherwise I would have had my hands on Reverene a long time ago. Probably wouldn't have shot it down, either. On a side note, does Varangia even allow foreigners onto their soil? Here's an example (and yes it is canon):IC: The NKVD planted agents within the Walruusaan Church in Aquileon, posing as converts to the religion. :w:

OOC: I would really at least like to see industrial costs. Make it cheap but present, like, "I'm putting 15 IP towards infiltrating Astaria and stealing/sabotaging Project Reverene." Because infiltration methods are expensive(reliable make-up or whatever to impersonate Astarians constantly?) and spying is such dangerous business it has to be a well-paid job, probably better than Special Forces. You know, a Middle-Ages RPGRTS could be interesting...
