OOC: Comparison to the fibers of what?IC:The Astarian jet soon touched down in a large Airfield on the outskirts of a major Astarian city, where a small crowd of people was gathered.IC:The Astarian clothing was, by most nation's standards, rather skimpy. Tropical weather year round meant little need for protection from cold, leaving most women in skirts and light tops, while men generally wore shorts and some sort of shirt, but of course the styles varied wildly by the year.

OOC: Matching approved by Humva. Also, are you going to reply to my last Varangian issue post?IC: The clothing was compared to the fragments of cloth found at I-15, and found to be a match: the cloth was from Astaria. Combined with the wheel, tread, and boot-marks, as well as the Astarian candy bar, it was fairly obvious that it had been an Astarian military camp not terribly long ago.:w:

OOC: Ah, must have been edited in. My bad.IC: The Varangians were terribly sorry, the Queen would love to deal with them personally, but she had an awful lot of things to deal with, and needed to delegate. Therefore a military officer had been designated to represent the Queen in this venture.:w:

IC:That was, of course, quite alright. The Prime Ministress would be happy to entertain an officer of the Varangian military. A time and date were set, to meet at an Astarian restaurant in the Capital, if that was alright with the Varangian.

OOC: This guy of course got his DNA sampled. Is he really a Varangian? (results won't come in for a few days of course)IC:Mrs. Caliak, already having gotten a table, was there, reading a menu and drinking blue wine from a goblet, and occasionally saying hello to one Minister or another, since this restaurant's proximity to the Capital made it an excellent spot for government workers to get their lunch. OOC: No (I'm okay saying that it's easy to recruit a Stan, but I'd have to consult with Rover first about corrupting an officer of the Varangian military), but the vial will be swapped with another one on the way to the facilities. Shouldn't be too hard. How often do you get poked by a needle, because man, drawing blood for every single darn thing that needs a security clearance is going to leave a lot of marks on people.IC: The Varangian officer greeted Mrs. Caliak and sat down. He spoke in Astarian, accented with Varangian.:w:

OOC: No. You're going to have no chance whatsoever of getting someone on the inside of the DNA investigators. They're all certified Astarians, and have no contact with the people they're testing aside from the initial blood drawing. The DNA investigators are on one of the highest levels of security there is, and there is no way you've penetrated that.Only foreigners entering Astaria get their blood drawn.IC:"So, I understood you had some business to attend to?" Lady Caliak said, giving a pleasant smile.

OOC: Yes. Let's see...drug them (either via injection or via gassing) with retrograde and anterograde amnesiac drugs and knock them out with a gas, then while they are unconscious, swap the vial of blood with a new one, legit. When they wake up they might realize they were asleep, but the anterograde amnesiac will cause them to forget that. They'll reach the testing labs none the wiser. Also, if only foreigners get their blood tested, why do you have the DNA testing facilities in the first place?IC: "Ah, yes." The officer said. "I'm here to negotiate for the sale of blueprints to whatever bombers you may have, for potential future use in the Varangian military. I have been authorized by my government to offer anything we have available to us.":w:

To give Varangia an advantage if that time came, the Skemmdarvargur was designed. It is a much larger ship than the Snekkja, with a more diverse armament, but the chassis is designed along similar lines, with a high prow and a long, narrow hull.Weaponry: 6 WYK-30 Bera anti-materiel cannons, arranged with 3 on each side of the hull. 2 WYK-5 Valkyrie anti-materiel cannons, arranged on individual turrets, one fore and one aft. With Varangian computer technology somewhat lacking at this point, a guidance computer could not be placed on the rocket, so it has to be carefully aimed before firing. This missile has an effective range of 300 metres before the fuel burns out, and an additional 100 metres with luck before the missile drops into the sea. Due to the lack of an explosive warhead, its damage is entirely kinetic, it is considerably more difficult to shoot down with lasers than explosive missiles, and it is likely cheaper to produce.Weapon Cost:

Despite grounding the only thing that constituted as their airforce, the citizenry was assured that it'd come back online just as soon as money was freed up, and a new colonizing call went out, to get those brave Stan citizens and shove them somewhere the government didn't want.On the military front, Project Crystal was done, and to everyone's disbelief it actually seemed to work. Trials conducted showed it would increase battlefield lethality rates by at least twenty percent, so the Congress was satisfied and somewhere a scientist danced with joy.On the international front, Standast put out an offer to all the known nations of the world to join them in the Stan capital for the biannual hot air balloon and zeppelin races. While hardly masters of the art, the mountainous terrain had made balloon travel an appealing option for flight early on in the history of Standast, and was still considered the best way for getting around, if not the quickest. If some nations expressed concern over the safety of their hydrogen filled zeppelins, they'd be told that the Stans had taken the best precautions possible, and that zeppelin travel was safer, speaking in lived/died ratios, than driving down the road in Standast. Also on the international front, the Stans once again approached Fillon with an offer; while their militarized lasers would be cool, some Stan electronics manufacturers had begun to theorize of a new way to make a computer, via lasers. Photonics, they called it, would be much faster and much more power efficient. The Fillon expertise with the laser would allow the Stans to more easily make them, and the Stans were fully ready to trade some technology for it; specifically, some of their composite research.Meanwhile, Standast opened up a diplomatic channel to Aquileon; they were interested to know if the Aquileonese would be interested in opening a joint colony on Europa, a place where both Aquileonese and Stan could live together without much concern. It'd require a special government, but it'd go far in increasing social awareness and would make a good place for secret meetings between the two.OOCI've been thinking about the mechanics of a joint colony; the way I see it, the IP would be split in half, given to each owner. Build times would still be the same, but at the catch that there still can only be one batch of something being made at a time.

OOC: I am curious as well with regards to how the Astarians found out about the Gauss project. Certainly no Astarian spies have been declared in Varangia, nor would the small tidbit that would have reached Aquilonian ears have been likely to spread to the Astarians. All they should know on that front is that the Varangians have done some work with electromagnetism. That could lead to anything from a Gauss Rifle to a bullet train.

OOCWell I mean you can put military vehicles in it, but it is a civilian race so smaller civvie stuff is completely allowed. I foresee this either ending in politicking or just getting ignored like every other subplot that's been brought up, so let's see where us racing extremely explosive vessels gets us to.

It could drop this weapon on any point in the hemisphere within a few minutes and it had a yield of 11.5 tons of TNT. However, the most appealing part of the Valkyrie satellite was that it carried two Fillion lasers, again capable of hitting anything within the hemisphere. iC(Kiserre/General): The Council made a general declaration to the the world that all space directly anove Kiserre, its colonies, and the surrounding area were the territory of Kiserre, and any unauthorised vehicles or other devicea, including satellites, would be shot down.OOC: How much would it cost to start the laying of intercontinental data cables, and how long would it take?

-==IC: Atrana==-The Atranian nodded, as he looked up and raised an eyebrow at the psychologist's eyes, and looked at her curiously. Why are her eyes so different? The pilot thought, not sure why.OOC: I was honestly not sure what you meant for the eyes, at first. xD

OOC: It's a genetic mutation my people have; they have a semi-regular Iris, but with a six-pointed star pattern of a different color overlaid on it. Each of these can be one of a bunch of colors; blue, green, red, orange, purple, teal, etc.IC: ForumThe Astarians responded to the Kiserran declaration with a proposal in the Forum, labeled "On the Matter of Territories" The proposal was relatively simple, and the key points were such.1: All space directly above a nation and its colonies for 200 kilometers out(100 kilometers past what Astaria defined as the edge of space) would be considered that nation's territory.2: Additionally, everything below a nation, down to the world's core, would also be considered their territory, and including mineral and mining rights.3: Luna, Selene, or The Moon, would be subject to the same territory laws as the continent of Europa, allowing colonization on a first-come, first-serve basis.4: All current territorial claims would be honored by this treaty.IC: Lady Caliak"Well, I look forward to hearing from your government when that happens."IC: MerestiMeresti grinned, and called forward one of the linguists, so the group could start to figure out the new language.OOC: And, time-skip.

"A memo was sent to Astaria asking if it would at all be possible to make a flying goat."

"The Astarians responded that making a goat fly would be trivial; making it land safely would be another matter entirely."

OOC: I still need "build"-times for the special type of soldier that was posted a while ago (classed as Specialist) and approval/build-time/cost for the vehicle and missile I posted with my latest Industry Report.

OOC:

How does one figure out the IP cost of a unit, though? Well, you send your designs to Kothra,

This means PM. You can still post stuff in the topic, you just have to PM it as well. And it's easier to look at stuf in PM than have to dig through posts. And don't expect to have your costs/times immeadiately. As much as it may shock some of you, I actually have some semblance of a life too. I'll get around to it after you PM me, assuming I have time and I don't forget.

OOC: That's understandable, and I apologize for missing a key step in technological development. On the other hand, while I understand that you have a life outside of BZP, it's important to note that yes, so does everyone else, so the smug tone is neither required nor appreciated.

IC:"Well, if you were to have the blueprints for one of our bombers, you'd have the forty years of development and thousands of ounces worth of gold poured into that; we want the trade to be equal."
