Hapori Tohu Posted January 26 Posted January 26 As was recently announce on the Brickshelf website, due to Kevin Loch's unexpected passing, his estate plans to shut down the website hosting millions of LEGO-related images on or around March 1st. If you're looking to save your images or those of others, you can check out brickshelfscraper by novelqq if you're into Python scripts or BS Backup by Bob Kojima for a Windows app. The notice mentions that people can inquire about purchasing the website, but unless you're willing to step up and foot the bill yourself, don't expect it to stick around and save your pictures. This is likely the end of an era, with the site having existed for nearly thirty years.View the full article Quote News Forums Q&A
Master Inika Posted January 26 Posted January 26 End of an era. Someday, the ship of Theseus will be totally replaced and my childhood will be gone. Time to get saving. 1 Quote "You are an absolute in these uncertain times. Your past is forgotten, and your future is an empty book. Valendale Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Glad to see this shared here, although it's tragic that Kevin's death is the reason for the shutdown. I didn't have that much uploaded to Brickshelf, but it was nice to take a few minutes to save everything and have a nostalgia trip with blurry old moc photos. (Although maybe not THAT old. ) 1 Quote
Lenny7092 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 That might explain why I could not join the website. Anyway, we gotta go save everything that we posted on the website! Some of the links in BioSector01 and HeroSector01 go to Brickshelf! Quote I like Lego, Bionicle, and Hero Factory!

SPIRIT Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Just went through and downloaded all my old stuff. What a wild trip down memory lane. Brickshelf was such a gift to the early internet Lego fans, and it shall be missed. 2 1 Quote ~ The Jazziest JtO Spoof ~
Taria Pakari Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I guess there goes any hope of Majhost ever coming back, too. Quote
That Matoran with a Vahi Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Sad to hear of another loss, too; last year seems to have been a bad one for deaths all around. Honestly I'm genuinely surprised that Brickshelf lasted this long; I know its sister site majhost went down many years ago, and free hosting sites in general are hard to come by these days. It's always felt like a weird piece of history whenever I see people still linking to it. That said, there are some pieces of Lego history that have been uploaded onto that site that I'd definitely like to save away if it's going down, scans of old comics and magazines and stuff; note to myself to do that soon! Hopefully this ends up working out! Quote
-tahu_nuva- Posted February 2 Posted February 2 That’s indeed very sad news. If any help is needed in maintaining or migrating the services, let me know. I might be able to assist. -TN- Quote

T.B.O.C Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Wall of History just made the announcement this morning they are taking over - a very welcome relief, given the high degree of LEGO pictures and such that we'd lose otherwise. Very happy to hear! 3 Quote My Brickshelf, please don't copy!... ...Looking for shiny Regirock, Articuno, and Virizion!(Can trade most any legendary for them!)My 3DS friend list is full, sorry!
