IC (Hoka)

Hoka returned astride her Rama in time to hear Hasil's question (it was fastest she'd ever gotten ready: she was more than eager to do something other than tedious sentrywork). She shrugged. "We can worry-fret about them later. If Le-Koro needs us, then that's priority."

She looked sidelong at Karata. "Unless you have other orders. Ma'am. Then we'll swift-go where you say."

Ngaro buzzed restlessly, hovering scarce inches off the ground.

IC Hile

(Le-Wahi):

Hile saw Jakura fire a disk at Mesonak. The Toa would need to handle the Skakdi. Hile had done his part by disarming the enemy. Now he simply watched and prayed.

IC: Mesonak

Mesonak reacted as if he wore a Kakama, arching his back conga-style to avoid the disk. It flew past him and ricocheted off of a tree stump.

He howled with laughter and grabbed a long, needle-like assassin's dagger from his ankle sheath. "Oh, dear Jakura. We meet again - finally."

IC:

The Toa of Gravity yet again found himself submerged in the foul water. Mesonak was strong, that much was for certain. He had thrown Zeth over five bio with ease.

The Ba-Toa resurfaced and spat into the murk. The gluttonous insects were making their way towards Le-Koro, having left a path of destruction in their wake. Countless trees that once stood higher than the eye could see had diminished into mere stumps.

The Toa of Fire had loaded a disc into his launcher and shot at the pale Skakdi. It was Jakura. There was no doubt about it.

Zeth could only stand there dumbfounded.

IC: Jakura

He panted with exhaustion as he hopelessly watched Mesonak dodge the bamboo disk. The Skakdi was much like himself - faster than he should have been. Plans began racing through Jakura's mind, each one mentally thrown away until he came to a startling realization. There were only two ways to defeat the creature - to get help, or to sacrifice himself for his friend.

No, his friends.

Still trying to catch his breath, Jakura turned and saw the Toa whom Mesonak had been attempting to kill. He was tall and muscular, much like himself; only this Toa's armor carried a black and purple color scheme. A Ba-Toa, then. He had known two of them, once - Duros and Zeth. Seeing this sight only caused him pain, and het ride to block out the memories.

IC: Varan

He had been walking silently beside the female Toa for a while, now, when he heard a loud sound - now, multiple loud sounds, one was the clear noise of insect wings, which seemed to surround him in all directions. The other sounds were those of battle - blades clashing, angry howls, etc.

He turned to Rune. "You hear that, right?"

IC: Kunitu

Now that Ranok was sitting comfortably behind her, Kunitu spurred her Gukko into action, the bird taking flight and moving towards a chute station. It moved quickly and gracefully, the trees in its path dodged easily as they arrived near the building. Ordering her partner to slowly descend, they soon found themselves next to the guard posted at the station. The Toa of Air waved, greeting her colleague with a cheery disposition.

"Any orders for Ranok and I?" she asked.

IC Hile

(Le-Wahi, Fau swamp):

Hile felt as frustrated as Jakura must have felt when the disk missed Mesonak. The Skakdi was not an easy opponent. Hile realized Jakura would need help.

He considered using Mesonak's weapon, but it was too heavy for a Matoran. Instead, he discarded it and readied the Volo Lutu, his most beloved tool. He aimed at a tree behind Mesonak and fired, the sphere attaching to its target. Then, with a might gravitational tug of the launcher, Hile threw himself straight at Mesonak, intending to strike him on his way to the tree.

IC: Acoura

A shout interrupted her peace and quiet.

Volunteers? Sounds like a job for heroes and do-gooders.

She looked down at the dish in front of her, not even close to enough money for supplies... well, since I won't be getting any more donations with everyone else heading to the market, I might as well check what all the panic is about. She put the items into her bag and headed towards the market.

Bugs? They built a village in the forest, and they're afraid of bugs? That just seems like poor planning.

I don't have enough supplies to make it to Ta-Koro, I don't have enough money to buy them, and now they're talking about evacuating the village... wait, evacuation means nobody around to watch their belongings, all I have to do is wait until everyone else is gone, without getting seen and evacuated myself...

...there's no way I would get that lucky, which means I need a plan B...

OOC: Acoura is open for interaction.

Just another noob here for the BZPRPG.

IC: Alfon

"Cool." I said, half creeped out, half impressed by the stranger's new armor. It definitely wasn't a power associated with the average Toa, which only made me wonder who this guy really was.

The thought was brief however, quickly brushed aside by the sudden festivity of the battle. Things were heating up, but most importantly of all, freedom was within our reach. All we had to do was keep the show going a little longer.

It took me a few quick steps to circle Aparangi, swinging my blade in diagonal arc somewhere near his backside while Exa brought his staff down. I doubted the attack would do much though; his armor looked like it could handle a rusty blade any day.

IC: Trava (Le-Koro, Marketplace)

The Lesterin huntress found her way towards the Forceman near the chutes and presented herself quickly.

"I know where the entropy beetles are, if anyone needs to go by ground, I can lead 'em there"

IC: Gukko Force NPC's

"Good," the guard nodded, "Head out, calling for others to join you. You'll find more guard with instructions there."

IC: Trava (Le-Koro, Marketplace)

"Right-o, let's get this disaster under boot and heel"

"Hey, hey, volunteers, if you can't fly, you can come with me" she called out.

OOC: Entropy beetle defenders, if you're going by ground, Trava here will escort you.

Ic:

After walking in circles for the best part of 20 minutes, Alsorate finally decided to retrac his steps.

Unfortunately, walking in circles had made him loose his sense of directions was it then that he found the pool he fell in. He was about to retrace his steps by following his footprints, he found the tracks of what seemed to be the green Ussal crab. He could be in with the chancechance of possibly capturing it. But go back home or find the Ussal crab. That was the question.

Ooc: if anyone would wish to interact within this small story (either hearing his calls for help or finding his footprints) would be appreciated.

IC: Kelz & Ryza.

The Wayward Wind limped into sight of land, smoking, taking on water but still seaworthy. At the helm, the Vortixx captain Kelz clung to the wheel, exhausted but alive. His crew was gone, his ship was badly damaged but he and his sister were alive. That was all that mattered. They could rebuild.

"Land," Ryza pointed out, dangling by her ankles from the rigging behind him.

Kelz rolled his eyes, trying to hide the fact that she'd startled him. Thanks to her sound-suppressing armour, he hadn't heard her approach.

He never did.

"What's the plan?" Ryza chittered, dropping down onto the deck to stand beside him, making sure to be a few bio away so his magnetic repulsion armour didn't send her sniper rifle flying overboard. Again.

"We put ashore and get to repairing the ship," Kelz commanded. "Plenty of trees here, by the looks of it. Once we've patched the leaks, we'll find a port and start hiring a new crew. There's plenty of loot left in the hold that we can sell."

"Yes captain!" Ryza snapped an over-the-top salute, and started making her way down towards the front of the ship.

Kelz looked out at the new island, and smiled. Good fortune was on the breeze, he could smell it.

OOC: Wait, was Rune part of the original team?

IC: Varan

Varan felt warmth under her grin. Something still seemed off - and his head still ached terribly - but it was beginning not to matter anymore. He was regaining feeling, losing the darkness - and every fiber of his being rebelled against it. That's what made it... fun?

I... I haven't used that term in... ever, the Ba-Toa thought to himself. What's... happening?

Whatever it was, it might not be safe.

"Let's move," he said, shaking away the insecurity threatening to overcome him. "We want to find out what's going on before it's over."

IC: Jakura

You know who you are... and who you are not.

Jakura heard the voice of the Skakdi. It scared him. But more frightening was the voice in his head. He had heard it before... long ago, before the destruction of his team. No, during it's destruction. It had haunted him that night, and had kept haunting him for months later. It was the voice of Jakura.

No! He mentally shouted to himself. Fight the urge to remember! You cannot change who you now are...

He turned back to reality, back to the fearsome creature before him. But before he could act, Hile, that courageous little Matoran he had come to respect, did something...

IC: Mesonak

Mesonak howled wildly with laughter at Jakura's distress. The fool... I know who he truly is... maybe I can win this battle in a different way then I had first expected...

The Skakdi shouted out to the Toa. "You feign braveness, my burning friend. You pretend to be that which you are not - that which you could only hope to be. Perhaps it's time I - "

Before he could finish, though, he felt something slam into him - something that sent him flying back into the murky swamp-waters. He growled in furry and wildly struggled against the sticky bog.

IC Hile

(Le-Wahi, Fau swamp):

I can't believe it worked, Hile thought in a wild adrenaline-induced thrill as Mesonak fell over and Hile reached the tree where the Volo Lutu sphere was attached. What he had done had been risky, but hopefully it would buy some time for Jakura to regain his stance.

OOC: Nope, lol. Sorry you were confused. I like the inner conflict going on with Varan right now though. Nice job :)

IC:

Rune nodded in understanding and crept towards the voices. The ground beneath her dipped dowards towards the ege of a section of mottled water. The low buzz could still be heard, but it had faded away to another section of the forest.

A few large ferns sat obnoxiously in front of her, their oversized leaves causing the plants to sag under their own weight. She crouched behind one to observe, while still keeping the cloaked Toa within her peripheral vision.

It looked as if three beings were up against a single hulking Skakdi. Surely he would lose the fight, as he was outnumbered by two Toa and a pesky little Matoran who could wield a Volo Lutu.

Poor guy. Ah well.

IC: Ryza and Kelz.

From her vantage point high up in the crows nest of the Wayward Wind, Ryza could see a huge amount of the jungle land before her. Sighting through the thermal scope of her sniper rifle, she could see the heat signatures of a handful of beings deeper into the swamp, as well as one or two others heading towards the group. Small animals and birds flitted in and out of view as they danced on or around the trees. But in the distance, she could see something unusual. Small creatures, an entire immense swarm of them, drifting from one tree to another before moving on. Beyond them was a wall of radiating heat; a wildfire tearing a path of destruction through the swamp.

But the fire was a long way off. They could put ashore, make repairs and cast off again long before it reached them.

Down on the deck, steady at the wheel, Kelz deftly steered their wounded vessel into a sheltered cove, protected from the waves and tides, where the water was shallow and they could make their repairs without having to worry about being interrupted. Dropping the anchors, Kelz made his way down onto the main deck, where Ryza was already waiting for him.

"You get to work cutting down some trees to patch the ship with," she suggested.

"Why would I do that?" Kelz challenged. "I'm the captain, you're the first mate. I outrank you." Kelz's pet bird/reptile Rahi, Archie, flapped down from the rigging and settled on his shoulder as he said it, as if to emphasize his point about being the ship's captain.

"Well, someone needs to feed Tucker, and he doesn't like you much. Would you rather I fed him now, or when we're in the water making repairs?" Ryza challenged.

"Ah..." although he'd never admit it, Ryza had a point. There was no way he was getting in the water with a hungry Takea shark. "Right, you do that, I'll get to wood chopping." he said snappily, storming off towards the longboat.

Smiling smugly, Ryza picked up a bucket of meat scraps and flung them over the side, turning the water a grisly pinky-red for a few moments, before the gaping maw of Tucker broke the surface and snapped up the meaty morsels in a flash of gnashing teeth.

Ryza's smile broke into a grin at the sight.

Ic: Racing forward, following the tracks, Alsorate had lost all senses but his sight, and was not aware that he was racing towards a complete madhouse. It was only when the tracks suddenly stopped that he looked up. What he saw was not what he had wanted to see - two Toa battling a Skakdi. Naturally, not wishing to get involved in this at all, he turned around and started to run, right into a bunch of large ferns and knocked over something inside the ferns. He fell down with a loud crash and an "oof". Looking up (tilting his head back) he saw that the Skakdi looking directly at him. Or was it slightly above him?

Either way, it wasn't a good thing.

Ooc: Yes, I am saying that he ran into Rune who was in the ferns.

IC: Kelz and Ryza.

The tide had gone out, leaving the Wayward Wind stuck on a sandbar. While this meant they would be stuck there for several more hours than intended, it did make it easier, and safer, to repair the ship, since Tucker was now forced to wait around in the deeper water for the tide to come back in. Sure, Ryza had fed the Takea, but Kelz wasn't certain the shark wouldn't try to eat him anyway.

"That's the last hole covered," Ryza said brightly, placing a final plank of wood over the damaged section of the hull and hammering it into place.

Kelz kept his distance, knowing full well what kind of things might happen if he got too close to the metal nails before they were hammered into place. As much as his sister annoyed him at times, he needed her. "It'll still be several hours before the tide comes in." Kelz noted.

"Well then, I might go and put some more boards over the holes from the inside of the ship, then." Ryza suggested. "And fire up the bilge pump to get all of the extra water out of the hold. You and Archie should go for a walk, or something."

Irritated that she was still bossing him around, Kelz was forced to admit that taking an investigative wander into the jungle might be fun. Wading towards shore, he whistled to Archie, who settled once more on his shoulder once more. Without further ado, he set off into the dark shadows of the trees.

Watching him disappear, Ryza smiled. She hadn't warned him about any of the things she'd seen when she'd been scoping the area earlier. No matter. He would find out for himself soon enough. The two of them had survived worse than a forest fire and a few bugs; he'd be fine.

Probably.

After a few long minutes of walking, Kelz began to notice a distinct buzzing sound. Some kind of bug swarm, perhaps? Pushing his way through the underbrush and into a clearing, he found that he was completely correct. That was one ###### of a bug swarm.

OOC: Open to interaction, if any bug hunters happen to be in the area.

IC: Mesonak

Mesonak rose from the swamp, eyes gleaming with fury. Turning to his attacker, he let forth a blast of impact vision towards the Matoran - strong enough to knock him from his feet, if not prepared.

He turned, fuming, to Jakura. "Do not pretend any longer, Toa!" He jumped the Ta-Toa, and pushed a blade to his throat. "Tell them! Tell them all!!"

IC: Jakura

The wind howled, the insects swarmed, and the trees crumbled all around them - but Jakura paid no attention - he was overcome by fear and rage at Mesonak's actions, and was preparing to jump him when the beast turned around and jumped him.

With Mesonak's blade pressed tightly against his gullet, Jakura couldn't understand at first why the Skakdi was stalling his death. Then, as the words poured angrily from the creature's mouth, he realized his intentions.

Mesonak meant for him to reveal.

Super-heating his armor and sending the Skakdi reeling backwards in pain, Jakura leapt from the ground and slashed his blade at Mesonak, hoping to make him duck as he had before. The Skakdi indeed did so, and Jakura took the opportunity he had been looking for.

Leaping through the air, Jakura spun his blade wildly and let a ferocious battle cry escape from his lips.

The end of his spear sank through the heart of Mesonak.

"No one... must ever... know, " he whispered softly into the being's ear.

IC Hile

(Le-Wahi, Fau swamp):

Unprepared, Hile was knocked over by the impact vision. It took a while for him to recover, but when he did, he saw Jakura kill his enemy in cold blood. Few Toa were ready to do that, partly because of the famous Toa code but also because of the moral burden of murder. Hile wasn't about to criticize Jakura's action - Mesonak was, after all, a very dangerous being - but the thoughts wouldn't leave his head.

"You know, Komae, I really think we've accumulated two more unlucky souls who have to be lost with us," Beosach replied to his fellow Po-Matoran, shaking his head. "You really are a Matoran of Bad Luck."

Meanwhile, Naria shook her head, and started to climb down to the jungle floor, assuming Cysero would quickly be following her.

"Huh, you think so? I really like being a Po-Matoran, though... ah well."  He waved cheerily at the descending Matoran.  "Hello there! Watch your step, these vines are a little slippery.  Also, this is the jungle, so something might try to eat us sooner or later."

IC: Alsorate had his eyes closed for what seemed like forever. He had heard a small scuffle, some words being shouted, and a thud. It was only after the thud that he opened his eyes. There, he saw the Skakdi laying on the floor, dead. Above him was a Toa, panting heavily, next to him was a Matoran. It only took him a few seconds to take in the scene.

A Toa... Had killed someone...

This, naturally, went against what he had heard of the "Toa code". He also now only realised that there was an army of bugs trudging towards them.

Now, should he tell them of the impending doom, or walk away slowly?

He decided the former.

"Hey!" He shouted. "I can't help but notice the fact that that we're about to all be eaten by bugs. I think it may be wise to get out of here."

IC: Zeth stared, awestruck. There was Jakura, in all his glory, still grasping the spear that had pierced Mesonak's heart.

"Jakura..." The name stumbled out of his mouth like something without meaning. The swamp water began to blossom in a reddish-brown hue around the dead Skakdi.

"Tell us what..? What was he talking about?"

Zeth was still in shock, but insane as Mesonak was, there was something he'd been trying to get the Ta-Toa to confess.

IC: Rune

Irritated that the Su-Matoran had plowed into her before she could move out of the way, Rune picked herself off the ground and glared at him.

"Watch it, will ya?"

The battle, and show, had ended how she'd expected it to. Except the Toa of Fire had actually killed the Skakdi rather than just subduing him.

Well, nothing special. It's not like I haven't seen death in all of its forms already.

She sighed and leaned against a tree. There were more bugs buzzing around than there usually were. "Wait, what? You're saying these beetles eat flesh?"

She chuckled and rolled her eyes. "They've just been busy this season, don't kid yourself, buddy."

IC: Kelz.

Kelz was completely and utterly lost. He had no idea where he was; the whole forest looked exactly the same in every direction. Except, from one specific direction, there came an ominous buzzing, crackling sound. And it was getting closer.

Drawing his sword, Kelz advanced towards the sound.

OOC: I have no idea where I am in relation to everyone else in the region, so if there's anyone near the bug swarm, Kelz is open for interaction.

IC: Kelz.

Stepping out into a natural clearing, Kelz saw the source of the sound, an immense buzzing swarm of bugs that seemed to be eating the trees. But closer to him were a group of beings. A few Matoran and Toa, and a notably dead skakdi on the ground in front of one of the Toa, whose spear was dripping blood.

Half tempted to back quietly out the way he'd come, Kelz instead sheathed his sword and carefully approached the group, Archie still clinging to his shoulder.

"What's going on here?" he demanded.

Ic:

Alsorate turned towards the shout. It came from another to a, with a strange rahi on his shoulder. He would wish to study later, but for now decided to break the awkward silence.

"Oh, umh... It was him! It was all him! And possibly also him!"

Alsorate pointed towards Jakura & Hile. At that point, a large bug landed on his mask. He flailed his arms around and fell backwards into another bog. He resurfaced a moment later.

"Karma, thou art an ârsè".

He waitswaited out the following scene in the bog, stick on his lap.

IC: Liano

I wasn't really digging this whole gladiator thing. Being captive was one thing, but getting thrown into free-for-all massacre for other people's entertainment was another.

The arena was chaos. People were fighting left and right, swinging rusty blades or balled fists at each other and the crowd was loving it. Some of the fighters were obviously sickos too, grinning savagely like they enjoyed a good fight to the death here and now. The rest however, were simply fighting for their lives.

As for me, I wasn't so keen on sticking around 'till the bitter end. Amid the raging battle, my sudden disappearance probably went unnoticed as I activated my Volitak and quietly worked my way through the crowd. Most people wouldn't see anything more than a silent, transparent blur and considering they had more important things to focus on (like this one lunatic with a machete), I might as well have been completely invisible.

I had managed to reach one section of the outer wall unnoticed, and I was ready to scale it but something nagged at the back of my mind. Some of the Sarsi were still there fighting, while I was here, making my grand escape. They weren't necessarily my friends, but it seemed selfish to leave them behind and possibly die.

Sorry guys.

I raised the earth beneath my feet until I was face to face with the viewers. Without looking back, I dashed away unseen and ran towards the promise of freedom.

OOC: Pulling Liano out of the Reveler's tourney, Alfon's gonna stick around though.

"Hey, hey, volunteers, if you can't fly, you can come with me!"

Sitting in the shadows at the back of the crowd, the Toa of Gravity thought quietly to himself.

I'm no volunteer. And I can get myself off the ground.

And I don't need you to hold my hand when I get to where these bugs are.

Still, there remains the potential for profit here. A little bluff here, some brash heroics there, maybe a lie or two and I'll be raking it in in no time.

Best to keep these imbeciles and their precious village intact, though.

Nobody to thank me equals nobody to pay me.

IC:

Shadows fell over the gathered volunteers in the markets and a sudden, erratic wind beat down upon the gather Toa, Matoran and others. Looking up, the saw the opening between the treetops overhead filled with Gukko and Kahu, well over three dozen. While the majority continued to circle overhead as directed by it's riders, a first wave landed on the edge of platform.

OOC: Helping to get people out to where the beetles are, as coordinated with Palm.

IC (Sisk):

The Kahu in the lead was imposing, wearing armor on it's head made obviously out of Rahkshi parts. The Matoran in the pilot's saddle was wearing a Zatth and had Guko Force markings painted on his armor. Sisk looked at the gathered crowd. He had been informed of the developing situation just a short while earlier and as the commanding officer of all the non-combat Gukko Force units, he had mobilized as many birds from the headquarter and the nearest outposts to assist in the efforts to protect the village.

"All volunteers in need of a lift, we will be flying you out to the defensive lines and drop you off there!" he announced loudly. "We will be establishing an airbridge flying back and forth in waves to get everybody who wants to travel by air out to where they need to be. Three people per Kahu, two per Gukko."

IC (Agni):

I looked from the Matoran to Merror and back. The flinch hadn't gone unnoticed by me either, there was something that was a little off here and I still didn't quite trust our guide. But we would have to make do with what we had, even if it was just the word of a former contact of Echelon.

"If he's in Ko-Wahi, then there is little for us left to do here." I stated, pocketing the rock I had previously examined.

"But if our guide here knows of the hideout, I doubt we will catch him and his followers there. Echelon is not the type to leave loose ends. He probably has relocated by now. Still, we can pick up his trail there."

IC (Aparangi):

Two blows came down upon the dark Toa, both connected. He grunted as he was struck, staggering for a heartbeat but ultimately keeping his sure footing. His grown additional armor had taken the brunt of the attack. The tissue was bruised, Alfon had even drawn a little blood, but the dark Toa just smiled grimly.

"I'm gonna kick your from here to the other end of the arena, count on it." he snarled. It wasn't a threat and more of an indicator in which direction to take the fight to get closer to the edge of the pit and instead of fighting against each other, take the fight to those that had set up this disgusting form of entertainment.

Spikes growing from his vambraces, Aparangi charged at Alfon, in order to grapple and push him in the direction he had indicated.

IC: Ryza.

Standing up in the crow's nest once more, Ryza peered through the thermal scope of her sniper rifle.

All she could see of interest were birds. Lots of them. Huge gukko, by the size and shape. They were flying all around the place, many of them landing then taking off back the way they came. Ferrying people into the forest, perhaps? They were very close to where she had last seen her brother heading off to.

His day looked like it was about to get very interesting.
